Question to Devs about 3.0 new jobs relic weapons

first. looking through this thread, i can see most of the people who hate the relic weapons are the hard core turn runners who hate something if people who arn't hardcore can get them. not all of them though, but a good portion.

second, yoshi said the zodiac weapons will continue to grow in 3.0.

third, while we have our zodiac relics, that doesn't mean we wont get more. why you ask? from what i read on the ff11 wikis after my friend told me that the relic's new forms were relic weapons in 11, I looked and found the classes in 11 had 2-4 relic weapons to upgrade.

so who is to say we wont get another relic weapon to upgrade alongside the zodiac?

There are 2 steps that get already easier with 2.5
I'm sure SE can do other steps also easier, so it is not so much work anymore. Maybe it would be possible to get a Zodiak within 3 weeks for a new player in 3.0

Either way, I really wish they would be clear and just say "Yes. You have to do the grind." or "No, we have something else in mind."

This is not just about the people who are at the top of their game for relics, you also have to consider the people who are still struggling with their relics (or are on their 2nd one or more). keeping a weapon involving such a long quest time for too much of a time relevant, will kill the game for any new or returning player instantly, especially if the weapon is the top weapon every 1-2 months. You will run into a desaster of RELIC or bust community. This has happened in FFXI and will decline the playerbase overall much greater overtime then a fresh reset with an expansion and letting the weapon die off and just offer a special glamour or mount.

Was i pissed when all my relic/mythics/empyrean weapons became obsolete with the release on Seekers of Adoulin on 11? a bit yes, but replacement was there with new weapons. Was i happy when they forcefully introduced new upgrades to all this weapons when teh people whined and bitched about it in 11? yes. Was the result of this good for the game? No, because newer players are basicly just left into the dust without grinding away 1 year + for a weapon. Was I affected by it in FF11? at first not, but when you lack later on people because they leave due to that reason... well yeah good luck finding people to do stuff then.

The same will happen here if you dont let those weapon die or degrade them to 3. tier weapons.

I don't understand why people think raiders hate on the Zodiac questline. I have two (PLD/BRD) and I love having the option to grind them in my own time, especially with how awful Coil RNG drops are.

edit: If they follow the FFXI route with how they handled relics post 75 level cap increase, they'll offer a path to upgrade old Zodiac weapons to keep them current while offering a new weapon chain for players that want to start off fresh in 3.0. Everybody wins.

Well, the opinions are either white or black. They can easily keep the relic quest going in the 3.0 and introduce a new relic quest with different options. They can even be weaker or with the same power than the actual relic, so we can finally have more alternatives to gear ourselves up?

I'd like to see a source on this, because the hints I remember seeing (like the mention of special skill animation for the final step of the relic) seems to imply the contrary.

Same thing, I try to keep myself informed and I never saw this. It's possible I missed it, but a source would be nice (because if I've missed this, I could also have missed other interesting infos).

They could say it if they intended to keep the current relics relevant (and they probably should because it would motivate people to keep doing them), but if they intend to stop them before 3.0, they can't announce it before releasing a new step in the quest chain. It would make a lot of players (who will keep doing the relic in case of or because they are sure it will still be relevant in the expansion) ignore this new step.

In XIV's current periodic state, relics have never been BIS every 1-2 months. It's been BIS at the end of content cycles, and only barely, at which point, all serious end-game players have already beaten end-game content. In its current state, it really is already just a trophy item, albeit a very useful one if you're still working through content. Otherwise, more accessible (and comparable) weapons are so much more readily available.

I hope they don't do the thing they did in FFXI, and have stuff like Relics, Emps, and Mythic. Its like here's three end game weapons, pick which path to grind until you either rage quit or go insane on the daily repetition. Given Relics just got evolved, I hope the weapons are on par to how we got the ironworks stuff. For armor, the worse that could happen is doing the same kind of upgrade with the i90 sets that we did with nexus weapons. Not that farming the items to trade for them is hard. Having a place to store them all is the trick as far as I know it.

I am going to guess that anyone who thinks this system should continue played 11 heavily. Anyone who thinks this system is near its end for all intense purposes played other MMO's to some form of end game. At this point we are on a gear escalator system. Which equals level 51 (maybe 52) gear will completely obsolete anything from 2.0. Legeendary weapons have some sort of perk skin,animation, or title.

Have they really embraced and 11 gear model except for this weapon grind? No gear swaps, no situational gear, most stuff is in some form best in slot at its ilvl with some tiny play. Most of that play comes from the fact most gear so outstrips content. There has been tonnes of cries/complaints for more 11 models and they have not embraced it.

To the people who think this grind is needed to keep old content relevant again must be 11 players. People will pick the best xp dungeons if we don't get new ones. Burn through it and be 60. The only people who will suffer is completionists or people who want some rare pet/glamour. Any story will probably still be forced onto a roulette. No one will ever do Aurum Vale again.
