Tell that to Achtelle; the last real dragoon alive^^
In XI thats is.
They should just make it be a minion and be done with it.
From the interview I read at IGN it seems like Yoshi is just going to implement Wyvern minion lol
They can do whatever they want but it's gonna have a backlash if they ignore the reason why they are iconic to the "player". Just look at some of the existing jobs already especially Summoner.
If the reason that jobs are iconic aren't visually present then their implementations become questionable. What's the visual offset? Players are gonna lose something they love and gain what in return? This trade off isn't present so this is why we end up with these questionable topics. While a lot of the players are gonna have their own individual reasons to like them it boils down to visual representation.
Dragooon's jump is not only a novelty but a punishable one at that to the point that they even made fun of Dragoons in the 16 bit Titan Extreme video.
Paladins may look like Paladin's yet they don't have that visual representation thanks to their story and their kit. If they had Holy it would totally be worth it to play as one.
Summoner's suffer the most visually due to the Egi.
White Mages had that visual gear set appeal and revive is a little there visually as well. Can't really blame them here having White Mage stands out is a real task in itself.
Bards have their songs but just like White Mages it's not easy to pull them off to be visually appealing.
Monks at least feel like Monks even though we don't have the cool stuff like Suplex and Dolphin Blows.
Warrior stands out a little due to their Job quest line and visually appealing ability Steel Cyclone.
Black Mages really stand out visually due to them Fire III's, Flares, and Meteor.
Scholar is the only Job in the game to get some real visual representation love thanks to the fairy aside from Black Mage.
This will be a concern that also extends to the upcoming classes and jobs.
The wyvern does not have to work the way the XI wyvern worked.
....That is definitely not what he was saying.
Actually his exact words were:
...Tell me how you see "Yeah you have a better chance of a FFVII remake on ps3 than a wyvern pet in ARR"Quote:
"We receieve many similar questions. Probably we could bring you the pet Wyvern anytime in the near future if we wanted to, but at the same time if we want that Wyvern to have the ability to attack the enemies along with the Dragoon then that means we need to reduce the strength of the Dragoon itself because we need to make sure there's a good balance in the party. So I'm sure that's not what players want. They wouldn't want us to reduce the strength that the Dragoon class has already. So as long as the Wyvern doesn't have that kind of special power then I'm sure we could implement it, so sometime in the future maybe you will see the pet Wyvern. We do have some plans and when you see how the story evolves around Reborn it might make sense to you."
Maybe as a mount or a minion, or maybe it really will fight with us after all, or maybe it's factored into the LB. Whatever it is, he definitely said it's a possibility in the near future.
If they changed the DRG class to a pet class I would unsubscribe. None of the other classes are as fun to play. DRG is perfect just needs more jumps with different mechanics added to it when expansions hit.
If you want a pet class you have Summoner. If you want a Wyvern pet play more FF XI or add it as a companion like the chochobo. To change how a class plays around that destroying the style of play and why people chose it in the first place is silly.
Yeah that whole interview went along the lines of "so people want it but if we made it affect battle we'd have to gimp the drg himself and you don't want that, so we won't do it like that. But we will make a wyvern..." ...just screams that it'll be a minion.
