#4 is good, but since WoW also has set bonuses on pretty much all their gear, it defeats the purpose of the thread.

So you are telling me that FFXI had no elitism whatsoever? My 8 years of playing would say that is a lie. You could be left in the dust for not even being the job people desired like Puppetmaster and Beastmaster. You could not get invited for simply not having a Haubergeon on your melee DPS. You could not get invited for not having the sub of choice. You could not get invited basically for missing the simplest piece of gear. FFXI may of not had an official gear check, but the community sure as hell made one. If you were not good enough to claim, you would get the boot. I could really go on. Don't put FFXI on this high pedestal of gaming community because end game elitism in it was one of the most toxic communities I had ever endured. At least in games like WoW, elitists kept to themselves and didn't interfere with other players. In FFXI, elitists took over HNM's, open areas like Sky/Sea, and "one group only" instance content like Dynamis. The game was quite inaccessible to any new end game LS's and a lot quit after realizing it. Not to mention it led to nasty things such as botting and flame wars in game and on 3rd party forums.
At least in ARR, you and your friends can go at your own pace without any interference of other groups. If one group doesn't let you in, there will be another who will. You will always deal with a bad side of a community in any game, it is your choice to keep hanging out with them or not, no one is forcing you to. That is why certain content with FFXI is outdated so you don't have to interact with these so called "elitist".
I am well aware that sub is gone, I never said it was still up. Also, you should correct yourself, "you" don't feel the sense of adventure and immersion. I however do. The areas are gorgeous and well designed, there are a lot of times I like to just run through with my goobue mount and look at everything around me getting to my destination instead of just teleporting there. I like how active the world is. There is a lot going on in each zone and no area feels dull or out of place. FFXIV's original map had little to nothing with copy/pasted terrain that just confused the hell out of you. I never cared what was outside of Eorzea may look like till ARR came out. Your definition of immersion and adventure is not the set way. It can be defined as many different things from many different people. If it isn't your cup of tea, then I would go back to FFXI where it does satisfy your needs. Again, let FFXIV be it's own thing.
Then shouldn't you go back to the FFXI forums and tell them you want your game back? Don't take it out on FFXIV because they decided to change FFXI, a completely different game.
To me Tanaka's vision had plenty of adventure and was a very Immersive experience one I haven't felt again since, stop telling me to play XI seriously, I don't know how many times it's been said that XI isn't the same anymore and no longer can satisfy my needs. The old FFXIV how ever did fill that empty space, ARR dose not.
-ARR's areas are gorgeous I can't say there well designed though IMO they are very small and kind of one direction paths with no real adventure just a layed out path set out for you to carelessly stroll threw, no obstacles, no caves you can actually enter and with no sense of danger. I would take back the old world maps in an instant even with those re pasted meshes/textures. What they should have done was keep the areas exactly how they were, split the areas up into zones for less lag then revamped the areas to look as nice as they do in ARR without losing any existing terrain.
I have to say this too, that area they turned to snow seriously looked a billion times more bad ass in the old game. If they wanted to add a snow area that is what they should have done "ADD ONE" not destroy an already existing area.
Not really, my problem is no longer with XI my beef is with FFXIV changeing from a game I love into ARR, a game I can no longer relate to.
"change" is an extremely broad and open ended term. However, when I asked for "changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea" in the poling, I expected actual change from the typical formula. Not the same basic setup we've seen a million times before.
It's not call cloning an mmo when the other mmo is made by the same company.
People call it "Wow Clone" but really they just meant it plays like any other generic mmo out on the market today. It's not a bad thing but this game needs to have some uniqueness as well.
Feeling entitled much there? No-one forced you to pay for FFXI and FFXIV 1.0. Games, you either like them or not. the comment "I would like some of that back" is egotistical at best, because YOU spent money on things you enjoy doing knowing it would change and throwing out the entitlement card because you paid before is, frankly pathetic. It was advertised they would totally redo FFXIV in the first couple of months after it went live when Yoshi P stepped in. You seriously expected it to stay the same?
Also, because you think the content they have added is pointless means they should slow down updates to suit you? Many, many people are playing and enjoying the content from 2.1. Going on being in game, you're a vocal minority. So yes, lets spoil it for the majority and slow down updates to satisfy your egotistical demands.
I wasnt talking about FFXIV 1,0 being for a different demographic (when it fact it was as Tanaka tried to make it totally different to FFXI) I was talking about FFXIV ARR! Thought that was obvious as 1.0 does not exist and is irrelevant at this point,
Yeah. At that point people call it a "rehash". Even still, I don't think people want that. They just want something that expands on XI's structure and progression system, with a similar style of exploration, natural quest mechanics, more stats to work with, and more gear options that arn't just an obvious step up from the last set. We would like a little complexity.
