Two stories - One positive, one negative.

First the positive- So some newbie tank was looking for people to run Brayflox's Longstop with her, so me, being an aspiring mentor offered her help. She had her friend, me, and this PUG RDM. The run was a little slow as she didn't have a lot of confidence and was also missing her job stone, which she apologized for. Though we wiped on the first boss, she got the hang of tanking and was a great listener throughout the dungeon with some encouragement. Shout out to the awesome RDM from the femroe WHM in blue for being a fellow good example for mentors everywhere and helping a new player!

Second, the negative-

I'm going to preface this story by saying this - It's fine to want to speed through PotD and HoH to get to ShB ASAP. The content's not relevant and repeating the same content for hours on end until your eyes bleed can take a toll on a person. But for Hydalyn's sake, people, don't be rude about it.

Me and a team of three dancers were running through HoH I stopped to look for a piece of Accursed hoard with one of the three dancers LOOKING WITH ME and this other dancer is like "Are you slowing the run down on purpose?" Not "Hey the Carin is open," not "Please get over here," not even "Let's move to the next floor." It's minor, but it kinda irks me. I saw her in another HoH run and left instantly. Look, I get it, it's your precious time, but being polite is free and takes much less time. And you never know, other people might want that hoard for an achievement or specific minion. It usually never hurts to just look if a Pomander of Intuition's been popped. Mega Apologies to the one dancer who ran with me and tried to dispel the tension and was friendly. You were great! I DID learn from the negative experience to ASK when a hoard crops up. Usually "Do we want the hoard?" and if the answer is either "No" or "I don't care" I'll ignore it. Funnily enough sometimes I'll ask and we just find the hoard 2 seconds after I type it.

Here's the thing we get that blm have leylines, we get that you can hit the boss from the back of the room, but there is no reason that you can't cast and slide up closer to the front of the room after your first leylines are done. As a healer, sure I could heal you and readily would, but as if a healer asks you to be closer and don't move up or you complain that you're not getting healed and won't be proactive to be in range to receive aoe heals that is on you. You're not special bc you're an lol healer adjust blm.

Only issue here is usually the healers are more mobile than the blm. Plus minimal context, was it like ~ Healer (tank dps) BLM ~and thus she was unable to AOE cus they didn't want to move either? I mean yeah if you're laying your line against the wall I understand it but even then a simple regen or shield should be enough to sustain them.

Or they could just drop their Ley Lines closer to the party and within healing range so that the healer doesn’t have to use an extra GCD on them.

BLMs are more mobile than ever with Aetherial Manipulation, Triplecast, Swiftcast, and Between the Lines. Even so, if they don’t want to move, everyone can come to a mutual understanding and just stand within the healer’s range. I station myself between the majority of my party members. If the ranged are hanging out in Uganda, I’m not going to chase them down. They can simply move in closer and turret from within my AOE healing range. It won’t hurt them.

That is something that more often than not tends to happen in 24 mans to the point that I hate ranged groups because they all think they need to spread out to the edge of the arena and they all do it opposite directions and out of my frellin healing range so i spend 3/4 of my time not just avoiding AoE and pitching speed heals I do it Indiana Jones style half the time I've been caught humming the movie theme by my hubby as I'm healing some cat on the opposite side of the arena.

Levelling roulette, i get into Dzemael Darkhold.

After the first boss i get told to "Pull big" by the summoner.

So i do, running forward and pulling a great big pack, pop Rampart, and start AOE'ing.

I promptly die due to the healer failing to heal me.
Wipe.

So the Summoner get's mad and initiates a vote kick against me, which i found out about because the healer and other DPS mentioned it, calling the summoner "A little bitch" while they were at it.

The summoner proceeds to go AFK and absolutely refuses to move or contribute in any way after that.

Pretty sure of all the people in the party, the DPS have the least say in whether a pull should be big or not. Unsure why you listened to the SMN over asking the healer, but at the same time...Yeah, the healer and other DPS had the right response.

Got Ghimlyt Dark for 50/60/70 roulette today, was me on DRK, Healer on Ast, friend on SMN and rando on BRD, we pull things go okay, get to first boss and the healer is just getting hit by everything at the 20% mark they die and I just use TBN to keep myself alive no biggy. We do a huge pull after and the healer goes AFK without telling us, I use Living Dead as I was at 3k HP and then they finally come sprinting in, I get healed to full at the last second and we live I'm like next time can you please tell us you're going AFK? Silence. 2nd boss they die to the frost bomb boss is at 35% my SMN friend rezes them and they die again sigh.

Final boss though takes the cake we wiped 5 times because the healer couldn't dodge anything, they tried to vote abandon I was like no we're not abandoning just dodge the AoEs (I even tried to TBN them and they would still die) and we're good. They start getting mad saying that we're wasting time if we can't clear without them so the BRD goes we don't need you and initiates the vote kick and *poof* the healers gone and instantly we get a WHM where we 1 shot the boss.

I think this was the first time ever that I have seen the vote abandon for a dungeon of all things.

Of late I getting SCH that refuse to use their whole HEALING Kit, not even fairy spells, and resort to spam physick.

I saw a dancer in Heaven-on-High who wouldn't use either Step ability. A dancer who wouldn't dance. Uh......

Man. I ran into a healer who refused to heal me because I wouldnt pull everything on the rock straight before the 2nd boss in Bardam Mettle. I was a i270 GNB. I big pulled everything up to that point. But I know that area can be sketch so I didnt for that one time. Healer goes pull big for heals. They refused to heal me the rest of the run which we wiped a couple times. at the end of the run I got vote kicked by the healer and his lackey to "teach me". Which made no sense due do i was running that particular dungeon for exp and kicking me at the end after I already got 98% of the exp made no sense. Mind you they literally wasted time standing outside of the final boss for 3 mins waiting for loot to drop so they could kick me for wasting their time lol.

anybody else seeing the highest page on this thread as stuck at a lower number on the first general discussion list? might be time for a Part 2 thread if it isn't just a bug on my end.

Ouch. Vote Abandon on normal Dancing Plague. My co-healer really seemed to know their stuff. I'd only done it once, so I had some unforced errors, but we generally kept the heals and rezzes coming. But it just wouldn't work. I hope everyone who needed it for the MSQ gets through soon. When things start breaking down it's hard to put them back together.

Then got Yojimbo instead. Tanks and healers stacked for chain, but we all died. Thank you Red Mage for saving the day!

I ran The Twinning for the first time. I swear this DNC was trying to kill me IRL during the thing. First boss, I accidentally free a dog. I see what happened and clicks what I'm not supposed to do. It must've clicked with her too because every chance she got, she freed more and more dogs. Like six dogs. Cause you know, blind healing isn't stressful enough, let's add MORE DAMAGE. At one point her and the other DPS are dead. And I'm throwing everything to keep the tank alive and waiting for Swiftcast to comeback. The other DPS releases. And I manage to get the DNC up. We manage to beat the boss, the three of us. Second boss, she just stood in AoEs. Now the third and final boss hits like a truck. And it has a laser mechanic. DNC decides to walk into one. I guess I see what it does. I can't blame her, I was curious too, but not enough to do it because I knew it would've been bad. How bad? Like 30k damage to everyone bad. Okay, good we know what happens if you walk into and don't let it finish. She kept walking into them. We wiped twice. Tank quit. We got another one. I guess she had her fill of causing raid wide damage because she stopped walking into them. But, it didn't matter. Because even when the lasers did there job one or both of the DPS were dead by standing in the way. Everytime. The DRK caught on and used TBN on them. I don't know if it Altruism to try and save them or if it was to just fill Dark Arts.

My favorite part was when it was done and everyone was gone and I ran back and to read the journals for lore.

Met a dancer who doesn't dance at all in The Qitana Ravel, or partner up with anyone. Just straight up 1, 2, 3. It was interesting.

Sorry in advance for the grump but I just need to vent. Why are all the primal dog farm parties right now actually learning parties? I just want the doggos I missed before ShB. I'm usually happy to help people learn but if it says farm I kind of expect people to have cleared the fight and at least have some idea of what to do.

I was in a Tsukuyomi farm today where half of the party, 3 dps and 1 healer, died because they didn't stand on the right color when she first casts selenomancy. This was the third pull after the other two pulls where we died to badly placed meteors or people not knowing where to stand for bright/dark blades. We got them raised but then died to (more) badly placed meteors. The best this party could do, with unsynched level 80 and the echo bonus, was get her down to 12 percent. If it had said learning party in PF I would have been cool with the mistakes, I messed up more than a few times when I was learning this fight, but this was supposedly a farm party.

I've had similar experiences in a few different SB primals this week. It feels like people were waiting for lv80 to run these fights so they could get carried through/make the fights easier, but the average lv80 item level isn't quite high enough yet to make it work. Not to mention that insta-kill mechs are still a thing. Ok, rant over.

On a positive note, ShB is amazing and I hope Natsuko Ishikawa (the writer) gets a huge raise and also writes all the MSQ content from now until the end of time.

For my story, I'd say the time where I do mass pulls for Doma Castle, and what do I get for heals? Benefic 1. Only Benefic 1. Why are healers afraid to press their buttons again?

I been meeting healers in lots of roulettes, duties and such, who cant seem to Heal at all, seems to just wanna try to DPS, especially WHMs, not realizing my own AoEs greatly outdamages theirs if they heal me *PLD*.

Been having to kick alot of Green DPS lately. Honestly, I do not care if a healer DPS's, so long as they do what they are there for, heal their party members. Im probably gonna trust and fate my GBR and WAR to 80 to avoid the agony. Took PLD and DRK to 80 before all the good healers were done leveling.

Finally got around to playing SCH for the first time since... well, ever. (All of my Arcanist job levelling up to this point has been done as a SMN.) Get Holminster, and think "Oh joy. A class I've not played outside of doing job quests, and now I'm healing in a new dungeon. At least the tank will pull conservatively, right?"

Nope. The tank pulled wall-to-wall. So now I have to figure out how to play SCH while the tank's health is getting uncomfortably low for my liking. Fortunately, nobody dies, and by the time of the third boss I've got a decent grasp of what does what, and how to put out enough healing to get some good DPS time. I say third boss, because that's when it all comes crashing down horribly.

First, either the DNC or the MCH is slightly out of range. Then the DNC decides that no, the boss is more important than the Chain (luckily, the Chain still died before the MCH did). When Bubba is having his tantrum, the DNC gets dances among the spikes. Then I rez them, and get an impromptu lecture on the spikes. Messy, and unrecoverable. Fortunately, the next go still has problems of the DPS outranging me, but everything else was done properly.

All said, pretty fun experience. I'm always a fan of trial-by-fire learning.

Was doing haukke manor( hard) yesterday and the other redmage in the group didn't go into melee.
Didnt go into melee the whole dungeon long, we actually wiped two times cause we apparently didnt kill lady amandine fast enough. And that player wasnt even a sprout.

just got probably the most pathetic DRG i ever seen in my pug days. level 71 dungeon.

he just spam sonic thrust and nothing more, 5 enemy? sonic thrust, 1 enemy? sonic thrust, boss fight? sonic thrust. no ogcd, no weaving, no buff, nothing,. just sonic thrust.

oh and i really mean just sonic thrust, no doom spike. yes, no combo so its 100 potency only.

by the time we finish the first boss fight, its already past 20 minutes mark (i know because my 30m food buff got 9m left) and he die 7 times (iam the healer). party (maybe) try to teach him (jp party) but seems useless since after that he still doing sonic thrust.

the other dps (brd) also bad, but at least he do single target attack when it come to single enemy (i saw empyreal and refulgent but no song)

i suggest to kick the drg but no response until 2nd boss. finish the 2nd boss, already pass 35m mark, he die 13 times total, i just force leave myself, penalty be damn.

Goes both ways. I sometimes get tanks when on my WHM who clearly assume I'm going to Holy Spam but aren't effectively using their cool-down or sufficiently avoiding AoE on mass pulls so even with all my tricks the window for using Holy is small to non-existent and with my CDs blown I'm just spamming Cure2 while hoping the DPS can keep up. Which is not to say you are wrong, as I prioritize keeping the tank alive (my own errors and misclicks notwithstanding). Everyone has tools to make big pulls go well, and if they don't want to use them, keep the pulls small as that's still more efficient than wiping. This goes as well for those DPS seem allergic to their AoE skills :p

No, it does not. Well, bad tanks anyway. I never assume my whms will holy spam, I always assume they will just stone spam, from a distance, while healing at the last second. The good ones can holy spam while keeping me up without forcing me to clemency or even having to use my cooldowns, just my shelltron. But those are rare, oh so very rare.....

Sighs..... I dont even assume my DPS will use AoE either. I expect the absolute worst of every single player until proven otherwise, its why I prefer PLD when having to do 4 man content. Allows me to carry groups.

"It goes both ways" = the other side (in this case healers) also experiences something similar (in this case issues during pull but because of tanks). And as I said, whether or not I can just use oGCDs and do Holy spam depends on the tank. Undergeared for the number of mobs pulled, standing in AoE, failing with defensive CDs = hard to do that or impossible. At the beginning of expansions there will be lots of players of all roles who are still gearing + many who are new/returning + changes to abilities, yet some folks want to try to do their usual routine from the previous expansion and assume all will be well. Not you necessarily but it happens. Best to assume there will be some bumps in the road and be patient. If people want quick easy runs don't go into DF alone.

just got DR main scenario praetorium and i was amazed that we got wiped when fighting ultima weapon... twice.

then i realized everyone has sprout icon except me and this 1 tank who whisp me "this gonna take a while lol"

i feel ya buddy, i mean we got people who literally just stand still when there is an aoe icon blipping under his feet (the one that drop you a ship where you can get 1 hit kill if you stand at the ground zero)

Makes one question how they all survived the previous dungeons if they aint dodge the aoe.

I just wish jump and skip potions wasnt a thing. Would prevent alot of these fun times.

Uhm. You should always be using your cooldowns. Regardless of what your healer is doing, you should always be using them. Especially on trash, where they will see a larger benefit compared to a boss due to the amount of autos you are taking at a time. Honestly, if I were your healer, I’d be extremely irritated to see you not using them.

Jump potions aren’t always to blame if you’re not pressing your cooldowns.

I had a very painful lvl 79 dungeon run yesterday. Scholar healer, only spammed physick, even when I was taking zero damage. Had aetherlflow stacked to 3, never used ANY of their abilities other than the sparce bubble.

I've come to accept some healers are just not keen on dpsing, fine, but at least use your whole toolkit!

How do you get to lvl 79 and still play like thar?


Thankfully, almost every other scholar I've had has been a saint.

I wouldn't be that bad, but I only played SCH casually in 3.x so I bet I would not use my whole kit effectively even though I leveled that job to 70 quickly at the start of 4.0. But only Physik? Yeah, that sounds painful :(

But there is one flaw here - only WHM qualify for sainthood, not some dusty bookworm ;)

I've only had one experience that qualifies for this thread since starting ShB: A run of the level 80 trial.

I had been meaning to run Trial Roulette after having cleared the story, but hadn't actually checked the box for Trial Roulette before joining the queue. Realized my mistake when the box popped up, but I'm not gonna ruin others' queues by withdrawing so I go in.

Got in, saw 6 people watching cutscenes. Quickly warn about the AoEs in the AoE phase being much larger than they appear at first, and we start.

Round 1: Wiped on P1 to something, but I forgot what it was. I think I was one of the last folks standing.

Round 2: We beat P1 relatively quickly, then wipe to P2 due to one of the tanks not knowing what to do with an Earthshaker marker. I ask if the tanks know what that is...he says "I didn't, sorry" - which I interpret to mean he wasn't expecting earthshakers. Pull again, and one of the earthshakers gets faced into the middle again and I die to that + arm (my bad). I mention to the tank that that white marker is an earthshaker and he needs to take it to right-front (other tank was already going left-front). We wipe a bit later to something else...and someone puts up a Vote Abandon. I vote no, and say in chat "no, we're improving" (the Vote failed, ofc).

Round 3: Still have problems, including the one tank not positioning his earthshaker correctly, but 4 party members including one healer make it to the ATE alive, so we win.

Always happy to help new players. :)

After that, I hop into Trial Roulette and get...you guessed it, the same trial. This time we nearly wipe on P1 (was down to 2 players alive, 1 being a SMN at one point), but manage to recover and push him to P2. I thought we'd wipe early in P2 and restart from there, but nope we recover fully and proceed to one-shot him. :)

Honestly, I had fun in both groups, so that's a win. :)

Just got out of the level 80 dungeon with the giant head at the end with the shrinking platform (don't want to give spoilers so no name). The healer seemed to know the place, but had a hard time avoiding some of AoE from the bosses and ended up dying three times. Everyone was kind about it though, no blaming or vote kick. The tank actually nearly soloed one of the bosses after everyone else was down. Definitely not a speed run, and on the last boss everyone stayed alive the second attempt but we were very nearly out of space. I guess losing safe places to stand is kind of a soft enrage.

so i was in a duty roulette 50/60/70 and SE restricted my account for buying a reward earlier that day, then they 90kd me. my friend told them what was going on, i log back in then they kick me from the duty.

Frankly, I still have no idea if you can tell which side the AoEs come from for that one mechanic first.

Reached the lv80 Trial today. The first round of blue circles wipes out the entire raid bar me and one healer.

That's perfectly fine in itself. Learning mistakes, all good. The healer asks in party chat if everyone understood what wiped the group (respect for that) and while I'm still typing myself, one tank wordlessly starts an immediate pull timer, another dps pulls 4 seconds into it and off they go. Zero communication.

That just annoys me. It doesn't speed the run, you learn nothing. I left and learned they were still in there half an hour later.

Reached the lv80 Trial today. The first round of blue circles wipes out the entire raid bar me and one healer.

That's perfectly fine in itself. Learning mistakes, all good. The healer asks in party chat if everyone understood what wiped the group (respect for that) and while I'm still typing myself, one tank wordlessly starts an immediate pull timer, another dps pulls 4 seconds into it and off they go. Zero communication.

That just annoys me. It doesn't speed the run, you learn nothing. I left and learned they were still in there half an hour later.
