Yeah, I have 0 idea on tank abilities but I definitely know that I shouldn't pull hate from casting 2 cures in a trash pack. lol.
The only reason why class-only players were an acceptable gimmick is because you could've done comparable damage back in the day with cross class abilities.
Now that we have role actions, you're not being funny or clever or cute, you're being carried. Not only is it a tired joke, it's an annoying one.
rant rant rant >:[
Tanking O12N as a WHM.
Tanking Omega-F as a WHM for a solid 30 seconds because neither tank wanted to pick her up.
Eating Optimized Battledance as a WHM because tank lost aggro after I’ve already used Lucid to dump my aggro (and no, I am not an overhealer).
Everything is fine.
There are no issues here.
Maybe you had one of those 'tanks' that doesn't like tanking and goes into raids/trials expecting to make the other one do it all, then 'oops both people have to actually tank in this fight' happened.
Is it odd if I always pop tempered will on that final Omega F knockback so I'm always the one to tank her?
stories from 2 Trial roulettes, ft. me as Drk and my friend as RDM
1st Nidhogg
You could already see that there was an amount of new people due to them watching all the cutscene. Fine by me, my friend and I dropped some advice at the beginning. so far so good. I just didn't expected it end up with alot of wipes. I just know before we managed it finally, we only had 20mins left there.
Being new is one thing, but not paying attention another. Most of them died everytime Nidhogg flew away and made his big fly aoe. I also had to beg to MT, because the other Tank (not even using darkside while being in grit) didn't manage to hold aggro at all and the big dragon went on a nice merry-go-round, cleaving others. I got to mt, but for some reason at our last try, they just went into grit and spammed aggro and made the group be cleaved. I don't get what that was for :(
Not only that, one of the healers really didn't went out of bad. AT. ALL. they rather kept casting a cure. That cure will not help much if you die anyway... also, we could have prevented a wipe if they had LB in their bar. No idea why you wouldn't have your LB button in your hotbar at lvl 60, but mkay.
People keep dying left and right for not running out of bad, I dunno, it just starts to be frustrating. I really have patient to help people but if some people aren't willing to learn.. what shall I do?
2nd Bismarck
One healer down, I tank the adds, I got no heals, I die. My co-tank took the adds, died aswell. Both of us did nothing wrong in tanking and both of us just died due to lack of healing. None of us stood in aoes. It's nice if a healer gets all hostile, because they can't admit they couldn't hold us alive. If I don't get heals, I point it out. I was not even rude or mad, I was just directly saying that it would help if I get healed next time, since this was the reason both of us died on the adds. (I may have not even said anything if it wasn't for the fact my co-tank just died too...). Well, then I may be "salty" I guess //shrug. being that hostile is kinda hilarious to me tbh.
but not only the healer, another person scoled my friend for using LB... while no one else used LB. We had one melee and they didn't used LB at Bismarcks last phase. You can avoid second add phase like that so she had all right using it if no one else dares to. And in all honest, that didn't even changed anything or was any cause for a wipe or whatever, I don't even get why one person got mad over it that she used it.
I could squeeze a third story, but that can be summarized in "for some reason, alot of lvl 70 Tanks don't know how to hold aggro at all and all dps are crying in the background, trying to get that aggro bar down".
sorry for typos, 4am isn't the best time but I felt like telling these stories.
have a good night!
DF alliance raid, and somehow they put me as MT despite i keep saying i dont want it, its not about my class being PLD, i never been in this raid (so i dont know anything about the boss or the mechanic), and i have zero knowledge of being MT in raid, this is the very first time i play total blind as tank in raid and they just told me to go MT?
ok i do it. 1st boss down 1 wipe, 2nd boss down another 1 wipe, 3rd boss... 2 wipes and this one warrior guy start vote kick me out and everyone agree.
wtf is wrong with people? is my chat invisible or what?
Your server shows as Tonberry, that is a JP datacenter no?
If you were alliance B then I think we have our answer because unless I have heard wrong alliance B is always main tank. Also if you queue up for a duty as a tank be expected to tank. I've tanked an Orbonne before where my party gets sucked into the doom room on the second boss. Know which tank took over while I was in there? Neither of them.
If you don't want to MT then play another role to get more insight into mechanics (or watch a guide in your spare time).
Saint M's expert roulette. Our other DPS dropped out at some point between the first and second boss. We honestly didn't even notice until another player joined.
I believe it's based on either proximity or whether you smack them. Like - if you smack her from across the room, you get the debuff for him. If you aren't near her, you get the debuff for her instead since you're closer to him.
The second method is unreliable though, so I just make sure to be near whichever boss I want to fight/tank.
levelling an alt, queued healer for lvl roulette, got Aery, cool I like that dungeon. WAR, BRD and a new NIN. all goes well until the first boss, as the NIN is new, he didn't know what the tether did, but that's fine as one hit from the tether is easy to heal through. Yes with decent enough gear. He got oneshotted twice by the mechanic, thought a bit odd, but nevermind, he was new. Then he said "Sorry my gear is low lvl". Curiosity, I inspected him and…. ilvl 35 shirt. The lvl 1 ring from novice hall. And a mix of very low level gear indeed, highest I it was the ilvl 110 ramuh weapon. In the AERY. no wonder he got oneshotted. I didn't want to see how we would have fared at Nidhogg and bailed. I'm sorry, but even if you are new, in no way you queue for a lvl 55 dungeon wearing such low lvl gear, it takes 2 seconds to stroll up a vendor and buy nq gear for your level. I seriously cannot understand why Squeenix is so blind to requests to put a minimum ilvl for dungeons
I'm almost willing to bet that was exactly that. Or Palace of the Dead and didn't know their moveset fully.
On a similar note:
I recently had a jumped WHM in Sastasha.
No protect. Runs ahead and pulls like a tank the second we zone in. Almost dies to the first trash pull. Medica Spam until OOM on trash several times.
Tank said it was fine that they were like this because its their first dungeon. As a WHM Main I got really frustrated with that statement. At one stage the tank went down to double digits of health and one more auto attack would have killed them from trash...
In Sastasha.
After the first and second bosses, I offered my help to the WHM and it fell on deaf ears. I ended up telling the tank at the end of the dungeon that not only was it not okay, it was almost insulting that he was defending the fact that he almost died on numerous occasions. If they queued up for a 50/60 roulette after that.... oh those poor souls were in for a show.

Figured I'd do something while I waited.
This is average wait time for DPS.
Healers purposely let me die to Doom in Dun Scaith. I was watching the statuses, preparing to remind the healers to esuna the doom. The dooms were being cleared, but i noticed that when i got doomed, it wasn't being cleared. At first i thought it was probably a fluke, but when it happened a second time, i concluded it was being done intentionally. I didnt' say anything during chat during that fight, do I didn't know what i could've done to offend the healers (or the 1 healer who knew to esuna the doom) It's just a game, why do people feel the need to be mean/troll random people online?
sorry i mean he suggest everyone to kick me out, which everyone agreeQuote:
A warrior couldn’t have started a vote kick on you since you’d be in separate alliances.
Just short one, but just now I wanted to do a leveling roulette on my alt's SCH before getting off for the night. But just before the pull after the first boss in the Vault I DC'd and couldnt get back in for a couple of minutes because it said the world was congested. Normally I don't DC, it just happened out of no where. And once I did get back in, I was found I was kicked. :( They couldn't wait 5min...
Was it actually 5 minutes?
What I mean is... you get d/c'd, so you have to log back in.. go through menus, and then you said there was a queue to get on to the server. Add to that the fact that a rapid d/c straight won't allow you to log back in right away because the server takes its sweet time removing your character from the game world for some reason.
5 minutes isn't as long as you might be thinking it is.
just had funny run in DF castrum abania, tank lost his aggro and when to brd, the tank revived but the brd already run way back with all the mobs. he just run waaay back like 3-4 mobs location back lol.
i dont care if i got kick since iam tank i can get another party in almost instant, if iam downright troll (no stance, no combo, etc) by all mean kick me out. what i dont like is how i already keep saying from the start that i still dont want to be MT, iam still learning when it come to raid, i already watch the vid guide, so all i need to do left is try the raid experience itself by being offtank for a start at least i can fill in temporary in case MT die or something else and later the MT pick it up again, but if you really want me to be MT ok i can try but dont expect smooth run.Quote:
If everyone agreed, what's the problem?
and they comply, they even said its fine. but a couple of wipes later they turn 180 degree on me and said my everything is bad, instead of just switch MT role to someone else they just blame everything to me like iam the only tank in the whole group.
That's how it works in that DC. They were gracious enough to give you a chance, but when it didn't work out they found a replacement.
Worry less about the kick and more about what you can do to fix the problems you encountered.
If your taking caused that many wipes, then you have some research to do before attempting it again.
Kind of backwards thinking I've noticed in some of these stories. A bad DPS/Healer "He's fine let him play the way he wants!" or "It's his first time" but a legit person says "I would much rather not MT this the first time" they get hung out to dry. How can one learn if they are forced out, especially if they all kept insisting they do it but then burn em the moment they screw up. She already watched the videos and wanted to get OT experience.
It is pretty usual see terrible dps got not called for the full duty, but a tank missing a single thing get the full course of bad comments.
I once did a little joke on me not want MT because my gear, just to receive so much vitriol comments on alliance chat to let a Morbol breath be fresh air in comparison...
Because there are 15 DPS in Alliance, so a bad apple doesn't matter much (and will probably go lost in the crowd unless it's something like the mechanics at Thundergod Cid) but there are only 3 tanks and 'missing a single thing' can wipe the party pretty quickly.
If the Alliance would be an army, the tanks are the leaders and everyone is watching them as they control the battlefield, with the healers as their second-in-commands, taking care of the whole group but with the tank as their priority. The DPS are the soldiers and a few deaths or underperformer won't matter as long as there is enough firepower left.
The point stands though - if a new tank is forced into mt, chances are they will fail here and there and if the rest of the raid isn't patient enough then someone with more experience should take charge instead of playing the kick game. Watching guides is one thing, putting it to practice is another.
i never seen this B as main tank before, but then again as people said must be aJP data center thing. I mostly just see the wars go MT on Primal and Aether
I despise trying to MT in an alliance raid. We can even work it out in alliance chat beforehand and there will STILL be a struggle for supremacy as the other two tanks try desperately to rip hate off me, usually causing the boss to twitch around like he's seeing ALL the squirrels.
Was in lvling duty - had a new guy playing rogue & each time we would get LB up he would pop it on any mob, didn't matter if it was about to die or not. Even just 1 regular monster, I'm not super greedy DPS LB hoarder but it just kinda made me go 'Did he just...? on that mob?' It's not like it was even a tough mob. It was a Cactuar.
- I asked him why he kept wasting LB he said 'it's FF, he likes using his LB & it helps clear mobs" I told him that the LB was shared by the group & wasn't singularly his & ideally if you use LB, use it on groups of mobs when you have AoE LB like casters/ ranged."
He didn't listen & continued to blow LB another time. Get to boss, he uses LB immediately which makes no dent - needless to say, he died three times the chimera fight because he wouldn't listen to mechanics, healer just stopped bothering with him & he said we were toxic & elitists.
-Another time, I was healer in Saint Mocianne's Arboretum - I love that dungeon, it reminds me so much of parasite eve or Resident evil- anyways, go in & tank immediately takes off to groups mobs (Fine) stops halfway & doesn't gather all of them & the tank back tracked to me, Somehow in a split moment I got caught in a Marlboros bad breath range, I moved immediately when I saw the cone but it was too late, I get all of the conditions & tank starts pulling the rest of the mobs -we wipe bc I'm silenced- I was like 'yeah...' Tank said they were going full ham I should know how by now how to handle it & I should have Esuna'd myself, I said "Should I tell him?" in regards to silence not allowing you to cast esuna lol. Needless to say, I was the worst & most clueless healer to that tank.
Oh boy, I lost count of how many times I had that thought when doing dungeons lmao.
Once I got a guy in full Bahamut set in Sastasha (like, a few months ago ?) telling me HE should be doing the LB because HE had better gear, obviously ! He didn't understand the synch thing in earlier dungeons, and when I told him, he didn't believe me lol
I'm perfectly fine kicking someone that causes multiple wipes 70+, first time or no, no matter what role.
You meet your party's expectations or boot.
Frankly, they caused so many wipes they should've been kicked earlier. They're clearly not cut out for the role in that content, they need to be held back a "grade," and they wasted the good will of 23 other people.
Heck, the fact that 23 other people tolerated that many wipes should earn that party a medal for their patience.
Funny thing is, according to various sources around the internet, apparently LB damage is tied to the cumulative weapon-ilvl/weapon-damage of the entire party. So even if he had better gear than the rest, it likely wouldn't matter unless his 'type' of LB was different (like AOE vs single-target).
