It is because it is a balance thing.

What is more important:

A) Kicking so thousands of people can log in when they get home with minimal delay.

or

B) Leaving it is as because we don't want to inconvience some DPS players.

It's annoying, it's a band-aid, but it is ultimately our fault for abusing an exploit (And by we I mean the community at large). I imagine it will be gone and done with in a few weeks backed by a patch to boot or ban AFK exploiters.

I've worked in the IT field since the 1980s. If you really believe that nothing ever goes wrong with application rollouts, or unexpected things happen that require more than "shove more servers at the problem", you have no clue.

Do you work for an MMO game company? Didn't think so.

I do also want this to be looked at as if I am a new player. I end up in a complete restart on Mateus, meaning I don't have millions of end game things to do.

If I was just joining the game, I'd feel upset if I picked a dps, and because of it, got locked out of doing story for an hour because of queue, plus doing the dungeon, because everyone had to get kicked off. I'm working on this character so that my friends that come to play have a spot to go that isn't Balmung, and I'm thankful they don't play at this time because they'd feel upset having this happen to them.

Just do it to Balmung. It's wear most of the issue is anyways.

The reset also wouldn't be very effective at all. It's still early enough in the day that players could login after the reset and afk. Then the queues would still be 2-3 hours long.

After the reset yesterday, the worst queues seemed to only be 1.5 hours long. That's a noticeable difference for those experiencing 3-4 hour queues. You might as well have done no reset at all cause then it would have made not one difference.

Well if this is good for the really big servers maybe just reset them each day? I just see no reason to do this for even the smaller ones..

And about 10 minutes of time: I came back from lunch and missed the announcement, queued up for the last story trial which took never longer than 9-10 minutes to pop as a DD and went into this. 15 minutes before the kick we got the message..we were a good team and would have done it on the next try but we had no time for it left. So after that 10 minutes waiting, some more minutes waiting to get back in (where there was no queue before that) and then I queued up for it again..and suddenly the waiting time was already over 30+ minutes and in the end I waited around 40 minutes before I got in. Without the forced kick I would have finished the fight a whole hour earlier thus this 10 minutes went down to nearly 60 minutes of lost time..thankfully I have enough time at my hands right now but others might not and thus they are forced to do it on another day.

The argument is that because DPS queues are so long, a DPS who has an hour's notice won't be able to run any content for the next hour because they'll spend 45 minutes in queue, get 15 minutes into the dungeon, then get booted.

That's why this needs to be a temporary measure only until a more permanent fix is applied. I am hoping the client update next Tuesday includes changes to boot everyone after 30 minutes of no input (or the only input being a single key e.g. running in place) regardless of what they're doing.

Well tonight getting home around same time have since launch and second day they doing forced logouts was able to come home and log in right away without any waiting, So there is a difference being made.

Ditto. 22 person queue on Balmung and was logged in within just a few minutes. It's good to actually be enjoying and playing the game again. Thank you for implementing simultaneous logout measures.
