Prime example is most people leave their family homes to strike out on their own, to get a place of their own, to stand on their own two feet...starting a family of their own generally does not come till much further down the line for most and even then it is a family home (a married couple like this game is going to be introducing as example for a feature) not what would be the equivalent of a commune spanning dozens or hundreds of people not even related by marriage or blood that is what an FC is more akin to. That's the point: an MMO is all about choices. If you want to do something - specially something that was hyped for so long - you can do it in a reasonable way. You want top level gear with your FC? Great, do Coil. Want top level gear by playing by yourself? Good, farm Sands. Want some fancy hat but rather not craft it? Buy it. Want it "for free"? Level both a Disciple of the Land and of the Hand and craft it. I don't even mention how fast or slow is each option. But you DO have reasonable options.
What options you have if you want to raise your Chocobo above 10 and wanna do it alone? What choice do you have if you want to dye it by yourself? What if you want to put all those furnitures your retainers brought back in some use, but you can't buy a personal house because all lots have been taken by the uber rich?
Being the personal houses a feature so hyped by SE and so anticipated by everyone, having a house should be an option, not some luxury. -

The FC getting a house seemed kind of silly until people from the FC were gathering their meeting up and working together on stuff. But without the people, it is not all that interesting. I like how I can get the seeds, and then someone else can manage the garden and then they help me color my chocobo which I would be completely at a loss if I were to figure it out by myself. -
