Logged in for the morning, parked my character behind a house. BRB in 7 hours. U mad bros?
I used to be one of those afkers... but you guys have a point. Contributing to the problem won't help anything, I'll log off when I'm not playing.
Don't hate the players...
This thread is an interesting preview of what the FFXIV community is shaping up to be.
I definitely log out when I'm done playing. Yes, it takes some time to get back in. But I'm not made of money (helloooo, electric bill) and leaving your computer on takes it's toll on your computer. My computer is a crap-box as it is without me possibly making it worse by leaving it on overnight. Besides, why would I leave myself logged in 24/7 when I don't play 24/7? Makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. lol
I admit, if I have to go to the store to pick up milk super quick or something that'll take me ten minutes, I leave myself on. It doesn't take long... but the moment I am going to bed, I go to the inn and sign off. Because it isn't fair for everyone else if I stayed on the entire time.
People oughta sign off when they are going to bed and be considerate to everyone else.
Eh. I log out every night when I am done playing (after wasting several hours getting in) but you know what? I don't give a damn about the time it takes in regards to afkers. If people want to perma-afk and get all the game time they can when they want to then power to them. They are not exploiting anything, they are not doing anything wrong, they are fully enjoying the game in the way that makes them most satisfied. Is their right to play any higher than anyone else? No. They are not forcing THEIR will on anyone else though, they are playing the game. A game they paid for and have every right to enjoy.
It's you self-righteous bastards who are all 'wahh, you're blocking us! Log out you dirty afker!' who are trying to force your right to play on someone else. You are saying your desire not to go through the same issues everyone else is, your need to play the game sooner, is better than that of someone who wants the EXACT SAME THING but is going about it in a different way.
You have no room at all to judge the people who go afk, so get off your bloody high horses. You are not any morally better for logging out. You do not have some better sense of character. You simply are doing things differently and choosing to go about how YOU play the game in a different way. You are making your own moral compass choice that you don't mind the need to go back through a painful login for the sake of allowing others to play. Good for you. You are no better or worse than the person who stays logged in so they can play whenever they want.
These complaints disgust me. This -is- fully SEs issue. No player, logging out or AFK, is doing anything wrong. Both are playing exactly the way the system currently allows and both are fully in their right and neither has any right to judge the other. It's the internet so jerks are going to do it anyway but tooting your own horn for some sense of self-satisfaction doesn't make you a good person, it just makes you petty and jealous.
That's how you are acting towards the afkers - spiteful, envious and bitter. There is nothing redeeming in yelling at them for doing what they do, there is no great moral goodness on your side, you are just picking on people who are suffering as much as you but are trying to alleviate the pain of the terrible launch in a way that allows them to enjoy the game on their time, with their terms.
TL;DR: I need to go look and see if I can get past the grayed out start menu again, stop tearing down afkers because you're envious of them for playing the game when they want >.>
PS: To hell with you, 1000 character limit!
@Lexxuk
I sent an email and i agree wholeheartedly. theres no excuse. they had the figures and a general idea and easily should have had a good idea of how many people wanted to play then double that server wise, or at least add a few extra just in case...
The issue's with not being able to log in is easily going to kill this game if it continues much longer and i really liked it but i cant even play it.
ya but the problem for most of us is that we cant even play during our trial period, as a legacy from v1 i only get till the 9th of September, 16th if we get those extra 7 days. I hated v1 so so so much it was terrible, and i've got the whole lot of 5 hours of play time here and the majority of that was during beta phase 4. i have to work and sleep i cant be getting up at 3 am just to log in and be a jag off. Frankly if you have that kind of time your probably not a responsible adult at all.
not pointing the finger at you just saying in general. Imo if i cant try the game I'm certainly not going to pay for it. V1 kinda went the same route though too.. needless to say sure you will be able to log in "maybe" in a month when people return there copy's to walmart, even though they got them else were... (walmart takes anything back) but ff14 will flop all over again... and something that should have been eating our time and raking in money for SE wont.
I'm fairly certain there not going to trudge it along all over again, you'll probably get a 30 day notice that the servers are going to just be shut down.
I just got in after trying all day if you cant get in you should try now
Asking people to logout and run the risk of spending hours to get back in IS SELFISH, even after they implement auto-afk kicks I know myself and many others will be doing what I can to stay in until they fix their issues.

Normally, I would agree with you. Just a few points that are off to me. You're not "playing" the game if you are leaving the game on and not so much as even hearing/looking at it. That's like saying I can eat however I want in my mother-in-laws house, by not eating at all. So it's invalid. I agree that it is SE's fault that this happened, and they are facing the repercussions. It simply boils down to a socially moral choice, log out and have other people view you as a better person, or stay in and be considered selfish, etc. It's all about perspective. I don't agree in saying "YOU CANNOT AND WILL NOT STAY LOGGED IN WHEN YOU ARE NOT PLAYING" but I also don't agree with "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK I'M STAYING ON ANYWAYS." Either side is selfish. Pick your poison, pretty much. :(
And not targeted to you in particular, but to everyone in general. Whats with the insults? They aren't necessary. Lets have a civilized discussion. :)
Uh its not selfish to tell someone who is AFK to log off when they are done....Do all you AFK defenders even know what that means??? To put it into a sentence...The person that is AFK is NOT PLAYING THE GAME!!! So your whole rant about how your playing the game to your own way is such bull and a way to make yourself look innocent. Your not playing the game to the fullest cause guess what? YOUR NOT EVEN PLAYING WHILE YOUR AFK!!! Your contributing to the problem that SE is having... Why don't you people get that?? Your just making this thing drag out even longer!! I think the people that can't get in have every right to ask you "afkers" to log off and give other people a chance.. Some people just purchased the game and haven't even been able to make a character because the dam servers are filled with afkers.
These entire posts are ridiculous, noone is acting self righteous. it is just having common courtesy "i wont be using this slot for over an hour, so i shall let it go to someone who can since there is limited seating available" we all paid the same amount to access this game and it is just childish to try to monopolize slots we are supposed to share even when they wont be using them due to their own selfishness. There is nothing self righteous about common courtesy, but then again we live in the age where you can insult and berate someone else non stop but the second they hit you for your actions they would be the bad guy. so what do we expect out of society these days? In the end baby gets what baby wants and everyone puts themselves first like a bunch of spoiled brats :-/ Even if they wont be using it they will make sure no'one else will out of spite.
EDIT: also im sure some of the ones bitching about the ones AFK would do the same thing given the chance, that still does not make it right, and that goes both ways. I am also sure most of the ones in favor would be some of the first bitching had they not planted their flags.
If you think about this way... If everyone just did what a normal gamer does in which they log off after gameplay. There would be a lot less longer wait and easier to get in even if there was a queue. But if everyone just stays in then it pretty much causes mahem and angry rants. I am one of those people that log off after gameplay... Its completely rude to take away other gamers right to play the game they purchased the same as you. You may not be doing anything by the book wrong, but your just being a selfish ass. Then you will turn into one of these ranters when you eventually get kicked and can't get back in. Think about it 10 min queue or 2 hour.....or all day queue..
Agree completely. Well put
Would be nice to hear a reason WHY they won't implement an AFK timer it that is all that is needed to alleviate server congestion and allow a natural flow of simultaneous online population.
Really is infuriating a child could figure this out.
/facepalm
I want a T-shirt that says "I logged out during 1017" If people logged off for sleep/work/school then logging in would take everyone 10 minutes instead of all day for some. I paid for the game also. I bought 1.0 CE and bought Realm Reborn just to get pre order. I still log out. I'm surprised people are so selfish towards fellow fans and gamers. Yes it sucks, Yoshida explained why it happened and they are fixing it. Lets be nice to each other while we wait it out, and log off. I wish they would just flick the servers on and off a few times a day just to clear out the people sleeping and at work :P
If an afk timer is implemented, and you still can't log in due to the world being full, what happens then? Someone just created a thread stating there needs to be a play time timer that kicks you after a certain amount of time actively playing, dumbest idea ever, but I am sure a lot of people will support it if the worlds are still full after implementing an afk timer. So, what happens after afk timers are in game, everyone is actively playing, and a lot of people still can't log in because the world is full, do you ask these actively playing players to log out after a few hours because they the world is full and you continue to QQ. Where does it end? Do you people honestly believe having afk timers will prevent the world from filling up? I'm pretty sure even with the afk timer, a lot of people will still complain they can't log in because the world is full, so it really won't help anything at all, it will just cause more people to QQ about something else.
If the world is full and everyone is actually playing, then good. This thread was only started because of people being logged in for 10 hours and not playing. 5,000 people aren't all going to be playing 24/7. Spamming log in would still be easier because the flow of people logging in and out would be smoother.
No...
Nope...
Log in b4 you go to work
You can't really blame them. I wouldn't log out either if I could get in. Direct all your vitriol towards the incompetent developers and not your fellow players.
ok so sometimes you have to put things into crayon so people understand.
So you live at a college and you pay for a meal card to eat, now the student population can not support the size of the cafeteria they built. So it only seats 230k people but 350k people want to use it. So everyone attempts to go but only 230k people get inside. Most eat and leave but some stay and sleep at their seats. So the other 120k people who tried to eat start getting mad about the cafeteria being full when they go to eat and some of them decide to stay as well. Now less seats are avail for those who eat and leave. The people who do not leave keeps increasing at this rate the cafeteria that was for eating now becomes a hotel for fear they will not get to eat again if they leave. People who do not leave are not the root cause of the problem the lack of cafeteria size is, but they have made the lack of space smaller and created a larger problem. When the only time they leave is when the building shuts down.
I was hoping that with the news of the new servers people would lay off a bit, seems it was a wasted effort.
Thankfully the afk kick timer will be implemented so this bs hopefully won't be repeated again.
I have just as much trouble logging in as much as the next person but I don't go about making the problem worse by staying logged in when I'm done playing.
To all of those QQing about the "terrible" launch, clearly you haven't been around for 1.0 or for many MMO launches period.
They're fixing things in a timely fashion. Deal with it.
I see it like this, unless you implement an actual afk timeout you will not get the majority of the people to get off when they know that when they get on it will be 1017's for hours... and with a queue that is total rubish "I'm at the front of the queue.... 1017 wtf." why would anyone risk logging out? I'm not saying you shouldn't log out to free up space but half the people telling afkers to loggout will just afk so they don't have to go through that problem next time... it's a cycle. and well. yeah being stuck out sucks... but what can you do until they come up with a viable solution? nothing really but smash 0. Going to sleep and gonna try again tomorrow.
Is there actually any proof that over half the population on your server across all servers are AFKing to avoid login issues, or are people that mad they need to blame it on conspiracy rather then thinking that maybe, just maybe someone was beating them when a spot opened up?
Hehe. All them tinfoil hats.
when the early access had so little space that you couldn't select a server and many people played on jp servers just so they could create a character most people are aware... so yes... most of them are not that stupid.
..................
I find it ironic because the people upset about others afking would be doing the something. I get off once and a while but I find it pretty silly that some people are actually trying to say this person isn't an adult or childish just because you can't get in and don't want to deal with a problem that SE put on themselves honestly that seems abit childish in itself. I can agree that a Afk system should have been day one but SE didn't and look what happens but its easy shift the blame everywhere.
So you agree that people should be kicked for being AFK so others can play the game, but you're only willing to get off if you're forcibly kicked? There's certainly irony going on here, but it isn't from anybody from you.
For your information, there are plenty of players that willingly log off to let others play, myself and most of the Japanese population for one thing. Masamune wasn't having problems until we got a huge influx of American players that came because they couldn't log into their NA servers. Now all the rude players are staying logged in forever.
I dont' do it, but I am not mad at the people who do. I have resigned to not playing until they straighten it out and my blood pressure thanks me for it. I try from time to time to get in but I wont spend more than 5 minutes a time trying. Both sides of this argument have valid points but ultimately I lay any blame at the feet of SE.
Trying to log into this game is like a game itself. Kind of like street fighter. I just spam one button.
