Everyone is gonna have their own opinion and wishlist for FFXIV, I was more of an Endgame all day HNM camping type of person and that's what made FFXI so memorable. So do i wish they bring back the 24hr/36hr/72hr HNM? of course and i would play it again in a heartbeat!!! Now if you wanna make those HNM an instance and use those 24/36/72hr access even better, then you can take away the BOT CLAIM problem.
Now when sky came out, I think it was really enjoyable and fun to go with your LS kill little NM to pop God and get gears and then take on Kirin. This type of event makes along with Dynamis which was only access able every 72hr, what made me love to play FFXI for so many years.
Yes, FFXIV should be unique on it's own. But you cant deny or take away what worked well and made people play FFXI for so many years. So i'm just gonna give my opinions of the things that should be remade:
- CC/AV: I think this is stupid, spamming a 17-30min event all day and every weeks for really shitty drop rates! I feel like CC and AV are a really short and speedy version of dynamis. How to fix it? Make CC/AV longer content with different little boss in it and more chance to get the special gears and access able every 48hr.
- Materia/Melding: make the melding gears exclusive and melding different... bcz this game is all about selling materia and melded gears now, it's kinda dumb!! Hoe is Spiritbonding all day for random materia stats then try to triple meld something that will explode and lost everything is a fucking wast of time and money and make EX/R items out there useless to farm almost at this point if you got lucky and speed MILLIONSSS on triple+ melding gears.
- Crafting: I hope they make crafting to 100 and you are only allowed to have 2 craft to 100 for the market and economy purposes.
- Screw market wards and give an Auction House!! Why change something that work in every MMORPG lol.... Make it accessible from your house too, I dont see the point to go to specific location where there is 100s of people to check the price of something or to sell it.

What you wrote completely contridicts what you said before, about XIV evolving on its own.Crafting classes have and will have the same number of levels as every other class. Number of levels is not important- the relative power of those starting at the beginning, people in the middle, and people who are finished is what matters.
I've written a million posts about it so im not going to explain it here, btu the market wards pretty much are an "auction house" already. All they need is some design efficiency and UI improvements. Other than the existence of retainers, we have all the functionality an auction house has thanks to the improvements made by Yoshi's team, and on top of that, has some features that other trade systems don't including text search and requesting items/repairs. There is no point in re-inventing the wheel - if someone did a good job at a feature or system then its ok to borrow it
My only issue is and this is a take from my experience of playing lord of the ring online...
They had a token system just like the one FFXIV is talking about so basically you had daily's you grinded out to obtain gear... it was nice don't get me wrong but the problem was after 1month of me spamming the content I had every single piece of gear
They had rare jewelry but other then that I had everything I wanted for my job and there was no reason for me to log in the game...
I want something that does reward me and some kind of progression system for completing an instance but what I don't want is instant gratification for basically attending any sort of event (except the main storyline of course because you only do it once)
thats my 2cents atleast
(im still waiting for details on gameplay and the 2nd job they are suppose to release....) -

Things I loved about XI
Friendships
Multiple lands of every type of season/feelings
Traveling to fight in the past and on a alternate world where I didn't kick promathia's ass
Crafting and getting that one craft to 100
Fulfilling goals weather it be for rare gear/weapons, or a friends
Xi brought to me a higher sense of commitment, friendships and socialization then XIV has provided. I love that XIV is more laid back but sometimes it leans a bit too far back. Though I love and continue to play both games I wish XIV felt as emersive as XI did, that people would form bigger groups with high goals. In xiv it seems Linkshells don't get bigger in stride for these goals but more clique they break off, branch off into smaller groups and the core that is left there going wtf happened? XI seemed to bring people closer together, to make ls's larger, not smaller. Id like things to be a little bit easier then XI in it's prime, more like xi is today (minus abyssea leveling) and not as easy as XIV has been so far. On the plus I can balance the two by playing both but I do recommend to anyone who quit back when abyysea came out, give XI a try while we wait on ARR. I once swore off it too but things have changed a lot. It is still a incredibly emmersive game, even if your able to level so fast. Thats where ill be sending my ARR 5 year timeshift ^.-
P.S to follow the forum I would do the party system over like xi's was. it was much smoother to use more people used it and when I stand at a primal battle id rather have my party flag on my head then look like another afk person. -

FFXII is the wonderful game it was because it was heavily influenced by FFXI. But it left out a lot of the bad parts of XI. I don't see why XIV can't do the same. I actually love gear swapping however it's unfair to add a system like that without allowing you to make macros long enough to cover each slot imo(without third pt programs). The only issue I have with gear swapping is that I find just to gear one job takes 76/80 inventory :(

It's a bit of a conundrum because alot of how you diversified your character from others was often your gear choices. It's hard to differentiate yourself from others in XIV because there is 0 real diversity to work with.
You can't work on your Solo Evasion set, instead of beefing up your SATA gear. While I think gear is the wrong way to go in terms of larger diversity, the game really does need some depth to it. It's extremly shallow as it stands (Let's hope 2.0 fixes this a bit) But I can't imagine it will at launch.
We need something like Merits (Well thought out, so that it's not just a cookie cutter merit setup) Let people be creative with how they want their character to stand out from others preformance wise, encourage people to focus on only a few classes instead of encouraging people to slog through all the classes just for the cross class skills making them play something they don't like. If I want to be the best Blackmage I can be...why should I have to level a healer? FFXI actually had the same problem with the sub-job system but at least it capped out at half the max level making the trip rather short to a sub-job.
Hopefully when we play 2.0 my Dragoon might play a bit differently than the next Dragoon standing beside me. -

merits without any caps to them is basically the same thing as gear swapping. i don't really want caps to them, i don't care bout standing out. i dont' want to be the best at say stunning dynamsisis lord only, i want to be able to do that and do what everyone else can do. obviously gear swapping did this by changing gear. simply adding cap blocks in merits that are gotten by NM's/endgame content/HNM's/what have you ...is exactly same as gear swapping. exept it wouldn't hold anyone back that has the time to do so. i would love that.

Some classes require more thought than others, many play perfectly well on auto-pilot.
- games are built to reach max level in a month. The journey doesn’t matter, only end-game does.
- however, the game design now focuses on solo to max level and then group up to play end game. In the process of doing the first, you have built no community hooks to supplement the second.
The end result is that games are very streamlined in order to “keep subscribers,” but paradoxically produce subscribers that have no social hooks into the game and thus next to no switching costs to jump to another game.

(although I think you are pretty much saying the same thing) As to grinding, it sounded to me like they are focusing on trying to combine it with questing. Sort of specualtion here but they have mentioned leveled dungeons in 2.0, meaning you get a quest to go to the level 40 dungeon with your party, where you then kill mobs grind style to level. While I prefer grinding as well, I think this sort of system would be ok. The biggest problem for me with that example is that it will prob be instanced, in which case you dont get the awesomeness that comes with seeing others ride by on chocobos, or seeing others in trouble and coming to help, ect. I feel like SE is simplifying many things in 2.0 to make certain things easier (that many of us have hated for years) but in the process they are killing the sense of community and open worldness that made us start playing these games in the first place.Quote:
