I mean the 'threatening to quit'. I didn't see any of that here.

Not happy about this :(
I hope they'll at least add some kind of counter which shows you how many people already play on that certain server you might want to join.
What is this, I don't even... your comment makes no sense.
Yes. Some english players do know japanese; some EU players do. The vast majority do not. The vast majority of us already rarely party with people that don't speak our language. The number of people TRULY affected by this in a direct manner is minimal, and players STILL have the choice of any server they want. If you want to hang out with the JPs, make a character on a japanese server. If you want to chill with the germans, join and EU server.
Read before you post. A lot of people have posted here just now stating they don't lag. The game has improved so ridiculously much since launch it's bizarre you're bringing this up, unless you haven't played since launch. I have no issue with lag either, besides the UI and menus.Quote:
Give it up.
People have been complaining about the lag since launch.
Hardcore MMO players? Give me a break. You want latency for what? Outclaim HNMs from JP players? XI works like that for 10 years, and while sometimes it might have been aggravating (at first), XIV is going to have vastly different content to tackle, that doesn't depend on that. If you can play that game as it is, and finish every content without ever blaming the latency for your shortcomings (which is just my case), then 2.0 has no reason to require closer servers for better gameplay. Unfortunately, people will probably not have the chance to realize that, unless they play on both servers in 2.0 and compare.
And now it turns out nobody has lag issues on the current version.
/facepalm
Lag cant be eliminated even if the server is in the same city as you. Do you even understand what I was asking?
They are taking the more important steps to fix what was causing the latency issue. 1: the servers themselves were garbage and 2: to much server-side response was required for player actions.
3: seperate servers, would only be to make segragationists aka closet racists feel better. Comments like "I dont have to read japanese chat on my screen" just shows what people are really thinking. Latency lol... thats the least of whats on their mind. And yea, Im just gonna throw that word out that. thats how I feel about it.
Umm... what?Quote:
(which connects you to Japan but through the server closest to you.)
Ping times to japan will be at least X time no matter what the network setup is like. NA players in FFXI do have a visible amount of lag in their actions. XI does not have a magical network setup that eliminates that.
No, but it can be drastically reduced. <50 ping > 250+ ping.Quote:

You stated this specifically:
You essentially said the ones threatening to quit weren't even able to communicate with people of other regions to begin with, thus you find it laughable when if anyone quits because they'll lose friends they play with from other regions, chances are they can communicate with them, so it's not "99% of the cases" when no one would quit over not being able to play with people they can't even communicate with lol.Quote:
I do find it laughable that people are threatening to quit over not playing with people they already can't communicate effectively with (in 99% of cases)
Like others have said, when you connect to XI from the US, for example in CA, you're actually connecting to a data center and not directly to Japan.
THEY WON'T LOSE FRIENDS IN OTHER REGIONS. TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN THE SAME SERVER AND YOU CAN STILL DO SO. THE SERVERS ARE NOT REGION LOCKED.
Yes, people who join an NA server won't be getting random parties from JP players. But the vast majority of them (again, easily 99%) can't communicate effectively with them anyway- autotranslate only gets you so far.
lol wut
I feel like any paying customer should be able to give their opinion on,
"Which do you want more? Completely international servers all in Japan, with lag? Or optional, local servers, but with current latency?"
It's not a technical question. It's a question of preference. o.O
It's just like before the game came out when peopel were forming guilds/linkshells. You just all agree to pick a certain server.
ON TOP OF THIS, --EVERYONE-- yes everyone will be able to make a character on every server.
Preferring to see your own language doesn't automatically make you racist. Also, many languages are not tied to a single race and "racist" isn't even the correct term.Quote:
which is why I used 'Closet Racist'.
Actually, a lot of people did say a damn thing about region locking. A LOT of people on this thread seem to think "regional servers" means "Not allowed to play with people from other regions" Even though yoshi P said this wasn't the case in the original goddanged post.Quote:
No one said a damn thing about region locking.
lol at all the people talking about data centers being relays or some crap.
latency issue = solved (hopefully) - i couldnt ask for more. thank you SE
i dont want to play with people from japan, and apparently they dont want to play with me; no problem there. if people are commited to their LS then they will have to all choose the same world and some people will have to deal with higher latency, ie no different to the current situation.
how can you people whine about lag and then when they fix it you still complain about something, you were never going to get the lowest latency without regional servers, if you had any common sense you would have known that.
i seriously dont understand all the complaints.
I want low latency. If that mean having no different language on my screen, so be it (will never be the case anyway, since I'm in EU). That's how things works, not the other way around.
As for other languages, I think I'm fine thanks, being fluent in EN and French and understanding German decently. Just stop assuming that players who doesn't want to see another languages on their screen are a majority.
However players who want a lower latency...
If you want to be surrounded by the sights and sounds of Japanese, just make a character on a JP server. Everyone, no matter which kind of susbcription/type of account they have, has the ability to create at least one character on every server.
I actually don't think they would have done this if it was still the buy each character system.
To: Yoshida-san, Bayohne and the FF XIV Dev Team,
By officially designating various Servers as "U.S." or "EU" or "Japan", even if you're only talking about the Data and not Language,
You WILL be indirectly causing Segregation of the Final Fantasy Community! :(
One of the greatest appeals of Final Fantasy XIV (and in XI) is the diverse, multicultural player base.
Playing with players around the world! I've met wonderful players from around the world, from Japan, Australia, Europe and North and South America.
It's one of the things that makes Final Fantasy XIV (and XI) *unique* from all the other MMOs out there.
As limited as your Auto-Translator is, people were still able to communicate, and you had players ONLINE at all times of the day and night (because of the World Servers).
By officially listing Servers in 2.0 as being "North America" or "Europe" or "Japan" etc., you're basically going to cause SEGREGATION.
Of course we can just choose a server in another region to try and retain some international feel, but there will be a good portion of the player base that will choose Lag Free over Community. :(
So you'll end up with Servers with High Activity during "Prime Time" hours in their region only, and it'll be DEAD at all other times of the day.
So for anyone wanting to play during odd hours (mornings, late at night, etc.), with your Regional Servers, you're indirectly highlighting how EMPTY a server can be as well.
It's fantastic to have Global Servers (No Designation of Country) to have activity at all times of the day and have a diverse player base on the Server.
I hope Yoshida-san reconsiders the Designation / Setup for this.
This is very disappointing news if you let it continue this way into 2.0. :(
It's no use, they only like to scream and shout, and not listen. You can bold letters all you fucking want, but you're the one that's not paying enough attention. "Just tell your friends to join the same server" does not and will not work, shut up and stop proposing that as an easy solution to this.
If after everything people have said here you still cannot see how people WILL lose friends when you have to pick servers, then you're an idiot. Hurray for all of you that will have your lag free server to play on. Now allow us to cry when it isn't that much of an issue for us, but losing players from other regions is.
I disagree, I am in Japan right now but all my friends will be either on a EU or a NA server. We haven't chosen yet, but once we do I know I am not choosing the data center near me because I would rather sacrifice a few ms of lag so I can play with them. It is more important to me, just because you will choose that local Data center don't assume EVERYONE is.... I know I am not the exception to the rule, because enjoyment of playing with friends is usually enough for someone to sacrifice to play with friends.
I had to read the first post multiple times to be sure I didn't misunderstand it.
By doing this “data centers” thing it's clear that most of the adventurers will choose the one closer to them, thus splitting the community.
I'm in Europe and just a while ago I defeated Garuda Hard for my very first time with a group of japanese friends and I was /happy of it. Then I read this...
I play most of the times with japanese adventurers, but I also know several from the Unites States, Europe and elsewhere, so...
This news reminds me of the original server merge idea, where everyone could choose their new server, therefore splitting the community. Then Yoshida-san realized it wasn't the best solution and luckily changed plans.
For A Realm Reborn I was hoping we would still be all together, not being separated by language (let's not be blind, because that's going to be the evident outcome).
Ifrit's Eruptions? The hells of it, I had a blast every time an adventurer blew up cursing the lag, and we would win anyway!
The dev team could create battles not dependant on lag, like the excellent one versus Nael van Darnus, but once again they decide to split the community... because that's what's gonna happen with these regional data centers.
I hope Yoshida-san will have once again the common sense to better think about this decision, like he did in the past with Server Merges...
Not me.
I had a lot of fun getting JP's to craft certain equipment for me because they were the only one's available to do so early on in 1.0.
So it was all about shouting in Japanese to get their attention, looking up the Japanese names of the items and terms to copy paste them on tells, together with using the translate feature. Hardly ideal, but it was a blast.
And that's just an example, and it's okay of I lose that in exchange for a legitimate improvement to the game environment. Just because you want separate servers doesn't mean you're a racist.
don't forget "content finder" tool
you can play with other with that, all the time
I am sorry that is just stupid logic. It is not racist, just because it is easier and quicker to communicate without having to take the time to translate what someone said or what you must say to someone else. I am learning Japanese at my University in Japan, so I can communicate in it and possibly get a job here. Guess what though, when I play a game I want to take it easy and not think overly hard on getting languages right so I will play with people that speak my language because it takes less brain power. So by your logic that makes me a "closet racist"? gtfo with that logic, my girlfriend is Japanese and I love learning and trying to talk Japanese with her. But because I want to speak english in game and only deal with it makes me a "closet racist" I am offended.
People claiming servers will be dead at certain times: Have you ever played any other major MMO? There are people that play at all hours of the day. North america in particular spans several time zones, so there's only a few hours like between 6a-10a eastern where it would be particularly slow. I know on non work days I can often be up til 4am and then it's only 1am for ppl on the west coast, even earlier if you happen to be in Alaska or Hawaii.
Don't be so small minded. Its not an issue of being surrounded by Japanese writings/sounds, its an issue for those of us who have friends all over the world. To those who only play with EN or a certain region, that's fine that's your choice but there are those of us who have friends who are from different regions. I have friends who i played with since XI days, so we been playing for more then 8-9 years now and with this news, we'll most likely get separated. Since only a few of us from XI LS remained after the XIV fail launch, many of us have different LS, my FR & JP friends have LS for their time zones too but we still PT and do stuff, i can't ask them to leave their other friends/LS to come play on whatever server i choose. How would u feel if you were told suddenly you can't play with the friends you have been playing with for the last few years.
