Talking about wintrading is pretty pointless: the glamours were exclusive to the veterans despite it having happened - until they weren't.

Same with White Ravens (for 1.0 players who did the quest/grind) and preorder earrings (for people who paid rl money). Guess the difference is that no one kept parroting "yes yes no one will ever have these again" - until something changed.

I know they're talking about new projects mainly. But ff14 isn't negligible older project yet. Maintaining it's dwindling popularity by same philosophy doesn't seem impossibly far fetched. In other words, stopping people from dropping ff14 by giving us what vast majority wants should be second best scenario, where luring new people in is the best.

At least its just emotes. The problem here is they made make some of the coolest sets in the game FOMO, tied to pvp, and only given to 100 people per data center. I couldn't come up with a bigger waste of dev resources if I tried. They can give the people who won these sets a unique title instead and that would be okay. Like, I don't see why this bothers you. People didn't complain when they gave out the Goobbue mount to everyone when it was previously given out to legacy 1.0 members only. Besides, you will still have the non-replica version, which is a rare item.

The problem is that the top players have already been rewarded with titles and plates since S1 of CC - wanna see how they do occupy over 100 slots of portrait options in certain categories? That's not what keeps top players playing. Why was the last season so active? Because they introduced new unique titles/plates tied to the introduction of Omega and Ultima ranks. Now that they got what they wanted? Current season is absolutely dead.

Honestly the way this MMO community works it feels that having rewards for each level of skill beyond casual could solve a lot of the activity issues on western DCs. The point of contention is the FOMO, which is why those old rewards are a source of friction. Having rewards to work toward baked for example behind commendation crystals would do a lot already. Having others that you can get by reaching top 100, etc, could also work, as long as they're not FOMO and like an ultimate title everybody can work toward them at any time.

This type of logic is always funny to me. What you earned was having those rewards for nearly a decade despite literally everything else in the game eventually becoming easier.

If your sole motivation for obtaining them was the fact no one else could have them, I doubt you'll have much sympathy. And I say that as someone with several exclusive stuff that I also wouldn't care if it became available to everyone else. Now I don't think it should be a complete hand out, just not exclusive.

Just make the rewards permanently accessible but you still have to do the same (or similar) content to get them. You want old FEAST rewards? Start doing ranked then.

Titles and Customizables for your adventure plates / portraits acquired via ranks should be removed from your account dynamically (automatically) based on whether you're still actually the rank required to have earned them or not. Literally every other MMO in the world does this for Ranked rewards to heavily incentivize continuing doing it. Keeps everybody shifting. And it's not FOMO because it's all there ready for you to go get it.

more glams for more people is universally a good thing, regardless how you slice your rants about exclusivity, prestige and whatever other reason you can come up with
they will give "Replica" prefix to the new gear and the original gear will stay original, so you can flaunt you going through hell to get it, so all is good

Ultimate is still advertised as "buying a Ferrari" to paraphrase Yoshida. Except that ignores how it gradually becomes easier to the point UCoB and UwU are complete shells of themselves now.

In other words, things change. Regardless, my point wasn't to refute what they said originally, but to say exactly what I did: nobody is going to have much sympathy for your preference to keep FOMO alive. Especially when you make dismissive comments like "I wouldn't have bothered if I knew I could just kick the can down the road"

Kicking the can down the road is a couple months to maybe a year. Heck, I'll even grant you a whole expansion. Ten years is longer than the life cycle of nearly every console in existence.

I tried doing FEAST. Didn't understand pvp enough at the time to become good at it. There's no twisting anything here. I think anybody should have Aeturna if they want it (the mount for 4+ clears of Eureka Orthos) and it shouldn't take a bare minimum of potentially 6+ hours per set just to complete one of the 4 tokens needed for it. But I stomached it and got the mount anyway.

I'm not opposed to old Feast rewards costing Ranked currencies to purchase but you have to be.... I dunno, Gold or higher to earn them. Or be a higher rank to earn greater amounts of it faster. I'm opposed to Feast rewards being unobtainable and us being promised 3 years ago they'd come back.

I'm opposed to the Elite Gladiator sets in WoW requiring reaching 1,800 Arena Rating score when Blizzard refuses to ban anybody for using cheating addons (literally anything giving you information you should not have, or automaton of gameplay in any capacity, there's TONS of these for WoW pvp and it's disgusting). But I'm not opposed to Gladiator sets being available for Tokens of Honor (pvp currency item) you have to do PvP -- and win -- to farm them. I'm also not opposed to every PvP Season mount being purchasable with Rating currency only earned through battles and victories at 1,000+ Rating.

I'm not opposed at all to Destiny 2's Trial's of Osiris armor sets gaining a flared / flaming affect on the glyphs carved into them if you go Flawless (7 consecutive Match Wins in a row in weekly Ranked). The affect dims on the following week, and you lose it the week after the second if you don't go Flawless again. That's purely cosmetic. But you can get it at any time if you play hard enough for it.

I'm opposed to the item being permanently unavailable in any capacity. So I'll reiterate: Nothing is twisted here. Your opinion is simply incorrect in the face of most people not liking FOMO.

in the end, it still is universally, undisputibly good that the outfits are coming back

I feel for you guys, I genuinely do, but stepping away from FOMO content is a net positive for everyone. In any type of game.
Admittedly I was a little annoyed to see the stuff I grinded out is now just purchasable by anyone but in the end I did have it for a year to show off before others got access to and frankly I would rather play more relaxed with the knowledge that if I miss a set, mount or pet I can just buy it an expansion later. It's the exact same joy of being able to get mounts you were unable to so far from tomestone events. People getting for free what others may have paid blood sweat and tears for. It's a good thing.

FFXIV is particularly bad about gatekeeping mounts, pets, glam and titles behind absolutely ridiculous timesinks so any step in a even just slightly more casual direction is good for the community. We all (well most I would assume by the aging playerbase) have IRL responsibilities and limited time to spare. Being realistic about the achievements offered to the whole playerbase and not just a select few is the best mindset for your own mental health. Nothing is taken away from you if someone else also gets to enjoy the thing later down the line. You still have the pride and achievement from back in the day and at least now players who joined the game long after the exclusive content existed will not left feeling dejected by the fact that they will never be able to enjoy the shiny thing too just because they happened to not be at the right place at the right time.

hell, i don't like pvp and i really, really don't care for it, not even for the rewards

We will see when the time will come. I am not able to predict whether or not mounts will be fully implemented with the replica tag or some way to discern them from originals. Could add an "inspect mount" feature so it will let you see a mount entry, there you could make it become a replica.

I am all in favour for the mounts to equally become Replica variants just like the armor or have other ways to make the originals stand out, that much is certain. The rest of my point still stands as written above.

This is why exclusive rewards like this are a mistake. I hope they learn from this and never have rewards that are time limited and promised never to return ever again. There is no reason for it but to psychologically manipulate players.

I think "temporarily" time-limited is fine, assuming the length isn't excessive like with Archfiend Set etc returning eventually. Arguably, if rewards only are temporarily limited, they could bring in actual high-end reward for regional Top 300 players and have replicas phase in after say, 2-4 seasons? (thats between 1-2 major patches). Just food for thought.

I was a PvP casual who was manipulated into spending my time on this competition because SE told me it was the only way
I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I spent so much time and stress on that, and to be told it was for nothing is upsetting. It's that plain and simple

Was it truly all for nothing? You still had it for god knows for how long and enjoyed having it (presumably), it is still yours, it will not be taken away from you. If you think that just because other players will have the same or something similar to you all the years later diminishes you having it all the time and having worked for it, that's a problem only you can solve because the issue here is just mentality.

You still have to spend Wolf Marks and Crystal Trophies for most of the current pvp rewards. So where's the missing ordeal for everybody else?

Friendly remidner that YoshiP goes back on what he says more often than not. Remember when housing timers weren't going to be a thing? When the earring (I forget which one it was) that was promised to be exclusive got recycled into a mogtome event? That X job was going to be reworked and then it...wasn't?

I think the old Feast rankings pages are still up aren't they? From back then? So your name will always be there and you can be proud of that. If you well and truly earned Top 100 (and I believe you did as often as you post in there), then that's something to be proud of too. Plus these other versions are replicas, and you'll alwys have the real thing. I mean ,I don't know who looks at those and goes "oh, it's just a replica. pah" but /shrug.

I participated back then too and it truly was sickening, physically, to grind so hard after something. I had to give it up as I was supporting a friend with cancer at the time and that was obviously my priority. Fortunately she's now been in remission some time and I can try again, but no game should ever affect your real life to that point.
