Right...that's why half the headgear in this game made after Stormblood makes my ears disappear.
Even if this ever becomes a feature in the game, it's such a whataboutism you're trying to pull here that wouldn't even make sense most of the time. Most helms if you cut earholes into them, the ear is still going to be halfway in the helm which would both look and feel stupid for the viera. Hrothgar helms just don't make sense in most cases, when they do make sense they work as is.
It is part of the problem with cosmetic modding that people are doing this, but we're talking the smallest part of the problem. You act like it's not 0.00001% of modders that do it for helms on hrothgar/viera alone. Most of you are making insane changes to the aesthetic of the game and completely avoiding any reason to engage in the game world for the purposes of appearances. Most are using it to avoid to cash shop even if there are a small amount that use mods that are tied to cash shop purchases that solely exist as a whataboutism to make modding seem less harmful than it is.
It's not good, it will never be good. With AI coming into prevalence, you're not going to get away with it for very long. I'll tell you how anti-cheat could and will easily work without intruding on our privacy at all too: 1) game developers get an AI system that scans the internet for ffxiv related cheats and compiles a database, 2) anti-cheat references the database while you are playing the game, 3) computers detected using any program on the list are denied access to the game connection. 4) have a staff that oversees the database and makes sure it is only adding tools or files that actually mod the game.
That's just one way of doing it, and there are probably way smarter more efficient ways of doing it. This game is on a decline because of cheaters and square enix has to step in sooner or later before the game dies. If the game dies due to cheating, then it's all the same if there was no way of modding the game. It's like you selfish people would rather not play the game at all if you can't have your pathetic mods in it. So entitled that you should literally just be banned.
yeah, that's fundamentally wrong lots of mods are tied to cash shop items and people don't use mods to avoid paying in the cash shop.
If it's detecting programs on a PC it's violating that person's privacy its invasive and YoshiP has been very clear that those types of anti-cheats are a no-go.
1) No, the vast majority of mods have no tie to cash shop items.
2) YoshiP would rather go back on his word than let the game die. You say I lack nuance, yet look who is talking lol. Detecting programs that are only related to ffxiv cheating =/= a privacy violation. You're just mad because I pointed out a way that they could detect cheats without being problematic.
What I don't think people understand is the cultural and legal issue this causes. Japan has lots of games like this and no one cares. In the US, its basically dooming your game to include this, as the majority of gamers will drop you if you have a DRM that actually interferes with their computer. In Europe, its actually illegal in some countries, and where its not the attitude is largely the same as the US.
Basically including PC scanning would make this a JP only game, which would absolutely gut their bottom line. Yoshi-P is many things. Stupid isn't one of them.
Valorant says hello, one of the most popular games in the entire industry and it has an extreme anti-cheat that is also extremely effective.
Times are changing, people are less tolerant for cheating and you're joking if you think your data isn't already completely monitored.
Oh look, you found one. That single example totally isn't an outlier that would get ignored in any statistical analysis.
Its also not an MMO, so different type of player, even assuming you are correct. The entire game is PVP, meaning anti cheat is a lot more important there.
I am correct. PvE or PvP it makes no difference, cheating to get ahead in a game where players compare themselves to each other is the same as cheating in a pvp game. It's not like this is a single player game, every player compares themselves to others and uses their prog as a reference to see where they stand.
Sad thing is that most people doing high level content in this game are doing it by cheating so it's a bunch of invalid players acting like they're doing something meaningful. Funny to see cheaters try to justify their actions over and over. It never gets old to call out the state of cheating in this game.
This is how most people view you

Jesus this dude still ain't done screaming and arguing that the game is dying because of modding lmao
The anti-cheat that literally kept people's computers from working because it decided stuff like keyboard and mouse drivers and RGB software was "cheating" is probably not the good example you think it is.
Someone can make a 100% effective anti-cheat by simply not allowing your computer to function, but that doesn't mean it's actually good.
I mean you can kick and scream all you want about anti-cheat but it's coming eventually. Technological advancements are inevitable with AI and square enix 100% does not want cheaters playing their game. There's no debate about it, whether you're cheating cosmetics, cheating in raids, cheating in pvp, cheating quests, cheating in fall guys crossover with movement speed hacks, you are not wanted here.
The gall you all have to openly defend cheating in the official forums is cute though. Just enjoy it while you can, because it is inevitable that people who cheat will be disabled.
Rightttttttttttttt

Yeahhhhhh I'm sure yoship is happy that you're expected to have third party tools installed in the majority PF groups for hard content in this game. Then you guys complain that they keep lowering the difficulty of content while abusing cheats over and over.
I'm sure they'll never get tired of cheaters ruining the experience for those who don't cheat. I'm sure they're happy the game lost the "best community support" to cyberpunk at the game awards. This game is in a steep decline and it's because of cheaters. What are the devs even supposed to do at this point? They simplify the game and cheaters complain instead of uninstalling their cheats. The only way for them to win is to add an effective anti-cheat at this point. It's not cool and neither are you.
You are delusional, arrogant and naive. As I've said before ffxiv modding has progressed to the point that the gene is out of the bottle and would be very costly for SE to put it back in. SE likes money and adding an anti-cheat costs them money both directly and indirectly.
So they rather have this don't ask don't tell policy that gives them wriggle room to bonk people if someone goes a bit too far.
Anyone who goes into PF knows that this statement is flat-out wrong.
Cheaters agreeing with cheaters, who would have thought.
The fact that you think you would take the positions you are taking without being a cheater is cute. It's so blatantly obvious who is a cheater in threads like these and who isn't.
Do I have proof? No. Do I need proof to know without a doubt? No.
Hey, just so you know who you're wasting your time with, check out their other thread where they accuse a disabled person of faking being disabled and then when called out double down on it.

Hear me out. You know that some time ago there was a huge boom of players coming from WoW to play FFXIV?
We were all happy that we got so many new players to play with. And also happy that our game has a better community than WoW.
After some time people in FFXIV started using addons a lot. Just like WoW players did already for years.
Basically WoW players had to bring their addon community to FFXIV.
Now new WoW DLCs and servers are coming out and most players are returning to WoW.
They have literally destroyed our community with their addons and are going back to their own game.
Everything wrong with our community now was WoW players' doing all along.
They came here and antagonized our community to itself by splitting it into sides of addon-approvers and addon-enemies.
If SE doesn't do something with it and won't take a proper anti-addon or pro-addon stance, we're gonna end up like Karellian race here.
...Thanks for hearing out my conspiracy theory.
That's not what happened but it's okay for you to think like that. You're looking for ammunition to defend the state of cheating in this game and you're pretty desperate.
Would I be attacking disabled people if I criticized someone for using an aimbot in an fps because they have a motor skill related condition? No, that person would be cheating and it would be wrong. It's unfortunate that they have a disability, but what is wrong is wrong.
