Sorry, I really misinterpreted that. I'll remove your quote there, as it was indeed my mistake.
Even if we do get an eyepatch face accessory -- which would open up a ton of headwear options for me, I would still be incredibly picky because a lot of them remove my character's ears. Please stop this.
Thanks to a friend, I have discovered that the crafted level 96 Titanium Gold Helms of Fending, Striking and Casting have ear protection... for hyuran-like races! But not for miqo'te. See the picture below:

What's even weirder is that viera do have their ears clip through while keeping the aforementioned ear pouches, as you can confirm in the next picture:

It's curious how random and inconsistent the ear issue can be when it comes to headwear. There's no logic, rhyme or reason to it besides having non-huyran races as an afterthought.
Unsurprisingly, the cap from the newest PvP series pass does not show miqo'te ears. Viera (and I assume hrothgar) cannot use it either.
I'd like that the promised 50% increased rewards took this into account and stopped hiding racial features. Gear shouldn't be designed with just hyur in mind.

To no one's surprise, the hat from the outfit unlocked by completing the quests of the latest Custom Delivery NPC hides miqo'te ears once again (see below). Viera and hrothgar cannot use it either.

Please, design gear sets with all races in mind and not just hyur!
Massive L take, here. Actually impressive how dumb this is.
Yes, Hyur have ears. Good eye. Most people aren't playing Hyur for their friggin ears. People playing Miqo are. It's part of the race's aesthetic and "draw". People want to be the cute catgirl (or catboy, no judging here), and the ear coverings were both cute and also leaned into the race's chosen aesthetic. It's something the target audience for the race could enjoy.
I thought that was painstakingly obvious that even a four year old could understand.
The new head piece from the FFXIV store (link) does not hide miqo'te ears!

The bad news is that it's something that must be bought with real money and viera and hrothgar likely cannot even use it.
We need more hats obtained in-game to be like this and not through the cash shop.
Additionally, I have noticed that all chest pieces from the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) hide tails with the exception of the Casting and Healing ones, despite the fact that the Fending and Maiming versions have tail armor! Yet another sad example to the growing number of items hiding tails.
No newly released gear should have these issues in 2025. They've had more than 5 years just for viera and hrothgar alone to fix them and now somehow we keep getting more tail clipping.
In the newest PLL, it's been said that the Cosmic Exploration suit will hide tails. If confirmed, this is yet another instance of them not trying to create something unique so as not to completely delete racial traits.
The new tomes gear introduced in 7.2 for Fending and Maiming hides Miqote ears, been waiting on a knight helmet like this for long but I guess you can never win with these developers.
The new cap (neon cap? don't know the english name) we can already see on the market board also hides miqo ears.
That's correct. See the picture of the Neon Street Cap below:

In cruiserweight storyline didn’t the hat the catboi was wearing when we ambushed him to force him to retire if he lost also hide his ears
Like they are even doing it to NPC’s now
The new Warden's Attire in the FFXIV store is said to "conceal character tails" in the description. While not strictly an ear issue, it's yet another example of racial trait removal.
I'm on the other side of the fence. There can't be enough headgear to hide ears, horns and other stuff.
I just don't understand why they can't make "show ears/tail" a toggle or option like the visor option - because showing ears/tail is literally just a metadata toggle, it wouldn't require any extra modeling work unless they wanted to make custom models to add earholes/pockets like ARR gear has. And as Viera players have shown, most people would rather put up with their ears clipping right through their hats vs no hat or no ears.
Because if I'm playing a race with horns, or ears, and a tail, I want to see my damn traits. If I wanted those hidden or not to see them I'd just play a Hyur...
They haven't really done a good job making hats and helmets fit the Miqo'te ears since like HW launch...
So we mostly either get them being hidden or them doing a halfassed job of it at best. So unless they start actually caring about gear design again, I am fine with the ears getting hidden.
As for tails, I think it should be a toggle, if you don't mind all the clipping your tail has with a particular set of gear you can keep it showing.
I noticed a group of NPCs on the moon (I think at one of the red alert FATEs) wearing spacesuits, and the female Miqo'te had tail visible but the male Au Ra did not. Is it inconsistent about showing tails or were they maybe using different pants to the full set?
(I agree with the other people saying that it should have had a tail tube on the spacesuit. It would make so much more sense.)
Good question. I'll check later. For male miqo'te, the pants hide the tails specifically and I'm sure I've seen female miqo'te wearing it with no tail in sight as well.
And to be clear, it's the spacesuit that you get as a reward in form of a coffer from the fortune. The outfit you can buy with cosmocredits works just fine.
The recently added Lix Chiton in the Occult Crescent is yet another sad example of tail removal (see the image below).

Additionally, some of the hats of the new sets -the ones with the admiral/pirate theme- also hide the ears of miqo'te. Viera and hrothgar cannot use any of the head pieces either, as far as I know.
Can the developers please put more effort when it comes to racial traits? We want our ears and tails to show. The tail situation is becoming particularly worrying as more and more pieces of gear that hide them are released with new patches.
From the new 745 sets based on the FFV jobs, the only helm pieces I'm able to see on my male Viera are the Sugarloaf Hats (the Casting and Healing equipment, based on Time Mage). The Pelt and the Bicorne don't show. Yet again another patch where brand new pieces of equipment don't get adapted to all playable races. They did the bare minimum amount of designs for the DoW/DoM sets, and still there's gear incompatibility, even with the older races.
To add insult to injury, the Tycoon Tights —the new pants from the level 1 gear based on Lenna's outfit, from FF5— have a different design whether it's equipped by a male or female character. We have seen a numerous amount of previously gender-restricted equipment pieces become available for both, and then... this happens.
It just breaks my heart to see how little they care about everything that needs improvements, I don't know. Practically all of my friends who were previous players left long ago, and I wonder how long my love for the franchise will keep me here.
It seems the viera and hrothgar hat issue was really just a show of what's to come in terms of how lazy SE is. Miqo ears used to get helmets designed for. More and more glam is deleting miqo and aura tails. Why are we regressing.
The original post of this thread was made two years ago. it’s not going to happen. makes me sad but its reality. They wont do it.
A recent Reddit thread has been discussing this issue, pointing out a particularly annoying situation involving concept art that has miqo'te ears showing but ends up not when implemented by the developers. Quite similarly to what MsQi posted here, as well.
On the 87th Letter from the Producer Live, it was announced that viera and hrothgar are getting headgear support from 7.3 and beyond.
While this is good news, there are some concerns:
- First of all, the viera ears on the examples provided were simply clipping through. There's no hole or specific design on the pieces to make it organic. Additionally, in the slide where the option to hide viera ears was explained, we can see how not only the ears clip through but also strands of normal hair that should be hidden there.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...2&d=1751325367
While I welcome the addition, the implementation looks unfinished.
- Secondly, I hope that older races are not forgotten in future updates. Miqo'te and any other affected race should also have their ears (and tails!) showing in most if not all gear when appropriate. Give us an option to hide them if so desired, but pieces like the Calfskin Rider's Cap or the many bandanas implemented after StB should be letting our ears poke through.
Not defending SE in the slightest - billion dollar company and all that - but ear cutouts haven't been a thing on gear since Heavensward at the absolute latest. And from what I've seen from the majority of Viera and Hroth players, they'd rather have "hats with ears clipping straight through" vs "no hats at all". Sort of an 'at least give us the option' type deal, so I'm glad they are indeed finally getting that option, even if it took far, far too long.
I do hope that the ear toggle they're adding for Viera will be available for Miqo too... I'm less hopeful about a tail option for gear that hides it though.
community: 'ears clipping through hats arent that bad, at least let us have that.'
also community: 'what? just clipping through? thats ridiculous, cheap and lazy. how dare you'
i do agree its too late and it would look better otherwise, but come on.
I mean yea if this is the best they could come up with after 6 years then that is cheap and lazy. They could have just done that from the start. This is just saying 'yea we kept you on hold with the hope of a proper solution but instead we took the laziest way that we could have done right away but just didnt'. It genuinely is ridiculous.
