Should have been Dalamud instead if they wanted money, profit off the "16 hype and Torgal". It also isn't nearly as lore breaking as we almost never get alliance raid mounts.

always dope when a raid boss is relegated to a premium store mount in a paid for game with a monthly subscription
can't wait til they start selling recolored ultimate weps on there
To be fair, its not like lore mattered for in-game mounts either when a vast majority of the interesting mounts just have ass-pulls in their flavor text to try and give some semblance of a reason why you have them that logically makes no sense.
"Oh yeah Omega just randomly created a mini version of itself as a way to 'try and understand its enemies'...yeah, lets go with that'.
"Ah yeah, when you battled Ramuh in the Empty some leftover aether just turned into a weaker replica that for some reason responds to ya"
"Oh yeah, we found a random crystal inside Eden that creates a smaller version of it you can ride"
Or just no explanation at all, like the Sunforged, or a very vague 'you somehow got this' with Phoinix.
Whether the devs or the mogstation team, if they want to make something a mount, any semblance of lore gets chucked out the window to make it possible.
I think it maybe-kinda works because the lore is so disconnected from the raid boss? You don't even learn any of it in the same questline.
I agree it's an odd choice for a Mog Station mount though. On the other hand there are already some borderline spoiler things in there like Minfilia's "Word of the Mother" outfit, Ryne's dress (and I think they refer to her by that name), the Omega outfits, assorted minions... in the grand scheme of everything on the shop, a shadow wolf spoils nothing except what the boss looks like.
I'm still waiting for this mount.

FFXIV x Persona, when?
Vel is happy Mao has new wolf mount, and hopes Mao remembers not to fall off.
Ground is hard , will give Mao much bruisings and ouches. Vel thinks he will buy it soon, and will also remember not to fall off. Promise.
I'm calling it now, Pandaemonium from P10 will be available as mount later down the line for $30.
Why people so angrys? Is BLAH mount. Mao thinkings raiders should has nicer mount than BLAH Doggie. Maybe one with nice emotes.
I generally am pretty "meh" on what they release since they usually have a cash shop feel, unless it's something that should have just... been an event reward or achievement reward, like this. The last one I felt that way about was the Spriggan mount since it was released around Easter and spriggans are usually... a part of Hatching Tide! Cruise Chaser absolutely should have been one too for the Alex raids on BLU or something. The rest I get with "well, a team usually thinks up stuff we wouldn't for the cash shop" but this is absolutely a "you should have known better, non-cash shop devs" moment. I like giving them some non-allocated-to-all-of-SE funds, but I'm a little salty on this one.
I wouldn't mind a morbol in a fancy dress though, just like the Copycat Bulb for a BLU 80 raid reward. That'd be cute. :D
Meh. Like it really matters. Whales will buy it, ride it around for a week, and two weeks later everyone will forget it even exists. Like every other shop mount.
How are you so weak to be up in arms about a DIGITAL mount that serves the same purpose every other mount does? It's a mount dude...it ain't the end of the world. How tf is someone being ran over if they simply are telling others not to interact with this shop item if you don't want?
Saying crap like this probably has the reverse effect and I'd bet folks see this then go n buy stuff just to piss yall off. Calm down and move on.
i see your point , but people gets fed up when something starts to become a pattern (especially when involves money), SE has a very predatory business style for a Sub type Game ,granted we get several items , not for free, we are paying for it remember, whoever thinks those cute seasonal outfits are "Free" they need some basic ...everything...
and the fact they keep pushing items to their store that should be something is the reward system , well...they get to upset their customers more and more.
this sort of mounts could be added to their veteran system , which has been left abandoned since...forever
The only predatory bit I see is the retainer system. And even that is only really bad for folks who craft I'd say. Not a fan of that. As for the mogstation (of the ffxiv story rather) I don't see anything predatory there personally. So what they sell outfits/mounts people want in there. I can't call that predatory, it's just smart business. It'd be different if SE was touting that these things would be in the game and THEN they pivot to the store. But thats never the case (admittedly as far as I know). People build up their own expectations and then blame SE when it doesn't pan out the way they made themselves think it should have.
Could the Vet system use an update 100%. But it'd literally just be instant items for many of us that have been around for years so the system would become dead water once again.
One part I don't get is you saying seasonal items aren't free. How aren't they exactly? They don't cost money. And you sub pay for you to have access to the servers. The rest is just there for you to choose to obtain or not. But let's just say we ARE paying for everything we get in ffxiv with our subs, what difference does it make it were paying for it in game than if we buy off MS? By your logic we're still buying it one way or another. That's were that logic takes a dip south.
I am continually surprised by the amount of cash people will spend for things which only exist within a game or app. Gear, mounts, extra gold, etc... players just eat it up, and in the end, they are left just holding nothing but binary code.
As you pointed out, all someone has to do is make the code once and the business rakes in the money with no further investment required. It's one of the most profitable things ever.
I'm just happy Square Enix hasn't gone to a pay to win model with their cash shop. Players may be upset certain mounts and gear aren't free; but, at least they aren't required to shell out money for best in slot gear or materia with superior stats in FFXIV.
This is pretty insulting especially since the model already existed.
If this was something new and original outside of the game, sure, fine, but no I don't agree with this, and whoever greenlit this for mogstation.
Honestly who is even pricing these models? Where are they getting their data to suggest that this prices are legitimate? Man Hours involved or what?
I do agree that they're technically not free – the "price" being that you need to be subscribed to the game at the time of the event. If you're subscribed anyway, then yeah they're a freebie on top of it, but if not then you have to either pay to access the event and gear or you wait a year to pay a smaller amount for just the gear.
Your company Chocobo is superior to this moint in every way except looks. It has unique mount music, it's earnable in game, you can dye it, you can customize the armor it wears, it can fight alongside you, and you can name it.
I have no issues with store mounts. People can spend their money on whatever they want, but I do have an issue when SE cheapens the deal. The fact that this doesn't have unique mount music and is a store mout is my issue. If it had unique mount music, I wouldn't even be talking about it.
The same can be said for any downloadable game.Quote:

It doesnt even have unique music. No idea why people would buy that.
I'll never understand why people get so upset about such things; if you don't want to spend money on digital content, then don't buy it, no one is forcing you. I appreciate when a company adds items that aren't bound to grind or endgame content, either inside the in-game store or as seasonal events, since not everyone likes to play that way.
In the last whole year FF14 gave me so little, that I stopped to buy the cash shop mounts. I don't enjoy the game enough anymore, that I am willing to buy useless mounts for big prizes.
Still enough to sub and play, but not enough to feed SE for using our money for other games.
Wait...huh? I don't think it works how you're explaining it. If you aren't subbed why would you pay for the item? The fact is it is free and become a payed thing after the event is over. But if you only aub for seasonal events you're on a different wave than most lol
Why is it surprising? people spend far greater amounts of money for experiences that last far less. Ever had takeout / fast food instead of cooking something cheap at home? Ever gone to the movie solo instead of pirating it / buying it later? You're basically burning unnecessary money on self-indulgent experiences that last less than a day, sometimes less than an hour. $24 for a mount that applies to all your characters and stays with you until the game's servers shut down is far more value than a titanic amount of stuff people will spend their money on during their lives; it ain't that hard to see why people eat stuff like that up.
Everyone places value on their money based on the service provided, plenty have no issues tossing $24 for what the mount offers.
Good, good! The game is useless as-is, it just exists to sell cheap shit on the online store. Instead of getting content, we get microtransactions. Usually, that’s called being in “maintenance mode”. But that’s okay! You’re a drifter, you’re not that invested in the game so it doesn’t matter. And when it all falls down, you’ll just go to another game, just as Yoshida wants. You have nothing to lose. That’s good!
Sadly, there are many of us who invested a lot of time into this game. While we can easily play something else, it won’t be the same. And as the game continues on this downward spiral, many people will feel lost. And if that isn’t the correct reaction, why bother even making a virtual world when none of it has any meaning? When it’s all disposable?
At this point, rather than rubbing it in our faces, the forum would be better with a support network to help people find other games. That way, you can have your store mounts and empty game on maintenance mode, and the rest of us can have one that’s alive and doesn’t sell out to MTX. Happy?
Mr. President, a second mount has hit the FFXIV forums.
You should be more honest like this Caffe. When you're sarcastic and nasty it's impossible to feel sympathy for your point of view but when you put things like this I can much better understand you. It's a sad point of view, but I can understand it. Losing something that you love so much, seeing it change to what you hate would be hard for sure.
I played FF14 during Heavensward and then stopped for several years, but during that time I spent many hours in this game and enjoyed it a lot. FF14 is the best MMO nowadays for several reasons, where others are kinda disappointing or have fallen so low from their quality that they're just bad. SE adds some cash items time to time, they don't do such every week and they gives you no advantages in-game, since they're just mounts, minions or alike. Sure, you can buy Gil but what you can buy with those is limited and you still need to work on endgame contents to get best-in-slot for your class(es). I don't see how implementing something that is just a visual buff which allows you to fly to the in-game shop can change your game experience so badly to say: "The game is ruined because SE locks a mount behind the shop!". Developers needs time to think, program, script, fix and work on a game patch or major content, its not something doable in 2-3 months if you want some quality. Moreover, FF14 is an MMO with a "J-RPG feeling" which leads to a deep story and complex loretelling; you don't write a good story in 1 month, it will suck so bad...I can assure you. Before judging a company for not realising a major patch every month, try to write a book in a very brief time and tell me if you're able to come up with something decent.
I like how the mogstation gets more content than endwalker
