Not surprised by the results. Mad about it still? Yes. But not surprised. No more community determined events pls Yoshi-P, thanks. Just let us experience the quest of the person we voted for and all of this could have been avoided.
I take less issue with the results of Astrid's quest. As much as I love the lore and like it to be somewhat respected, I treat these seasonal quests the same way I do Manderville in that they should not be taken too seriously. Domestic/partner abuse is bad but don't let Marcette's treatment get to y'all that bad. It ain't that serious.
P.S level your crafters, it's easy with Ishgard Restoration and then you can just make Dalamud Red dye next time >_> <_< Also read the gotdang quest text.
I am not too thrilled with the end results that is for sure.
Make the event change CLIENT SIDE so we can see what we voted for if they're ever gonna do another annoying event like this.
That's the way I thought it was going to end, like yeah decorations change color depending on who you get, but the three end up having to work together so the questlines converge very quickly with only a little bit of variance in the beginning. And then Lisette takes all three on as proteges and they will have to work together. Which would set us up for having the same event on every server next year regardless of who got the popular vote.
Idk how they were going to set up next year's event if there were different results on different servers. New NPCs entirely? That's why I figured the outcome would be roughly the same regardless of the winner, but I guess not. Oh well.
At the end of the day people should accept majority of the people arent here nor reddit, they are playing the game.[i mean some ppl dont even read patch notes, let alone forums]~
And seasonal events with outfits or anything thats really cool pre-colored already is going to go with the color people like the most.
As someone said on another comment its better of giving a colorless outfit and if i may add once u took the outfit, the quest turn in on the last NPC would give u the dye of ur choise red, blue, yellow~
How did he not learn anything? It was literally the only outcome that had him actually initiate a conversation with a woman! Geva was certainly a terrible choice to start with, and Marcette.... well yeah.
I say the hanging ending no more implies he ends up with Marcette than Rod's ending implies he ends up with Sylphie. Ironically, I'd say Ywain has a better chance of learning more about himself with Astrid's idea than with Rod's. The man's certainly going to learn what it is he wants, or doesn't want, after spending some time with that woman.
Sylphie's help might get him a little more attention, but what good is that if he can't make a move? Or worse, what good is it if it's just not who he is? His biggest hurdle is that he's holding himself back. He's never going to reel anyone in if he never casts out the line.
On the other hand, really, Bert's idea was probably the best for laying a good foundation. The guy really needed to be passionate about something. Maybe it doesn't have to be carpentry, but, c'mon, you gotta have at least some small thing you enjoy and can animatedly share with others
I think a lot of us assumed this going in, it's just surprising that SE didn't.
It's an interesting experiment but the only attempt they made at controlling it was hardly an attempt.
I'd like to see them try it again but with a quest that's either designed to actually reflect participants' opinions (by not being linked to a choice between rewards, or even something that is "easier" to select over other things), or by just let us do the quest we signed up for and have the popular vote only affect the decorations, not the actual gameplay - especially for something like this where all cases were soft failures. At the end he could have been like "well, we tried a lot of things today but none of this seems to be working out..." and have a shared and more satisfying wrap-up.
I agree, honestly i didnt find the event interesting enough while reading about it once they announced it[ i started last year late february so i missed the event back then, so i dont know if im missing anything here from the discussion] so i went in just to get the red outfit and then log out and study for exams, and reading the thread here with ppl discussing the dialogues of each NPC and what they said it seems they kinda missed the mark. People posted some great suggestions and i hope they take them in consideration next year and for any form of event similar to this one~ FFXIV is story driven and events seem to add more to the characters and areas around so i find it sad i ended up skipping dialogues etc just cause i knew which outfit i wanted[tho it was entirely my choise]
Nah, Sylphie schooling Ywain is best. She will let him know what the ladies like from a young woman perspective. Mind you, she may be young, but is a prodigy, so she isn’t dumb. Being thrown to the lion’s den like Astrid did, could have the opposite effect and scare him off completely. He at least is being guided by someone in Rodrigault’s ending. With Bert, he at least could find someone of interest. Ywain needed to be eased in to the situation, especially since he doesn’t even know what he likes. I just think Rod’s ending is best.
I knew something was off when I saw the results. It seemed like EVERYONE on Jenova was wearing some version of the Forget-Me-Not outfits. I couldn’t understand how Astrid could have won when I only saw like 3 people with the Rose dress.
I was determined to see the ending I voted for and traveled to other worlds to take the quest, only to find that she somehow managed to win on ALL worlds!? I was pretty dang ticked off. Still pretty ticked off.
Rod’s solution just made the most sense. To me, Bert’s was just totally random and of course, Astrid’s is just awful altogether. All the endings could have used some work since they’re all pretty bad, but Rod’s ending is still the best of the three. But of course, cute girls always win.
I felt pretty bad for Ywain and the implication that men like being abused by women is just creepy. “Ha ha it’s funny cause he’s a man!” We all know that if it was a girl being called a “meathead” and being ordered around by a really mean guy, everyone would lose it and claim SE are bigots or whatever. People keep saying not to take it seriously, but making fun of male victims just isn’t right, regardless of cultural differences.
At least we learned that Geva is married with two kids. I definitely didn’t expect that reveal.
The thing is Ywain himself is a rather serious character, so him being brushed off like that after legitimately asking for help was -justifiably- met with mixed reactions. If the character in question was someone...goofier, say, Hildy, the joke would've landed better, because he does get himself in that kind of situations. Heck, Bert could've been the character in question, he was basically diet Hildy.
All I see here is a much of babies who can't handle the fact that their favorite didn't win. This event was great and I enjoyed the fact that the community got to vote on the outcome and even though my vote didn't win I hope we get more stuff like this In The future.
The fact that the time, energy, and money people spent creating, drafting, revising the other two storylines, translating both for three different languages, and wait there's more, modeling characters for the cutscenes, programming the cutscenes and then debugging them, is all for nothing when literally NO ONE can experience those two storylines, or appreciate the work people put into them, in the game ever.
So of course I'm going to be angry about something as terribly handled as this. And I still do not wish to ever see this type of community voting event implemented in any form again. Especially when there is even just a fraction of a chance of someone's work being done for nothing.
Yeah, it's a pretty inefficient use of resources.
Then I guess all other events from here on out should have the bare minimum effort put into them and just have the NPC quest giver handover the event item immediately. Since that's all people want anyway.
It would save SE valuable work hours and, more importantly, money. All these events are just glorified sub renewing machines anyway, and people will resub because of the Fear of Missing Out on that glamour.
I don't see it that way, look at how much community excitement was created through this event. The evidence is right here, all the people outraged over their choice not winning. Just assuming everyone only picked Astrid for Red. I think this event and the content created for it worked as intended.
As I've said before, I really wonder if the people making the content thought it would be not worth it in the long run. Not exactly pointless because flukes can happen, but there was no such thing, and unless they released all cutscene variants somewhere, they will just be forever unseen.
You mean the emote animations almost every non voice cutscene in this game uses? backed with the songs we usually hear based on the current mood of the situation?
You could probably recreate the scenes yourself tbh. the outcomes can be found by looking up the quests.
Not trying to sound mean to the devs btw.
To be fair, as much as I agree overall, there wouldn't have been much "modelling" going on at this point. They're all pre-existing characters or assembled in the devs' version of the character creator from prebuilt pieces, then placed in an existing location with maybe a few pre-programmed emotes to perform.
I'm not saying it didn't take work to put the scenes together, but it would have been in the programming side rather than building anything new.
The results were going to be biased in Astrid's favor from the beginning due to her being a pre-established character as well as the only female pick out of bunch.
Were they have a proper poll of this nature for the Little Ladies' Day songbirds I imagine the results would be a lot more divisive.
But some of us do care and it would be nice we dont get locked out of stuff just because others dont even read the text. I really hope they learn from this and make it either a personal quest or unlock the other options later.
Its not about winning its about SE wanting to make this into something, where you may visit other worlds to see the endings of all quests but somehow in the whole world only Astrid won which imo should not have happened if SE had more foresight and made it more fair..now those of us who do play the game for story will never see that outcome and have to live with an outcome that is "male abuse is funny"..at least give us an option at the end that say: "This is wrong and you are not great" or something..but seemingly we just have to accept and take it.
You had the capability to complete, witness, and experience all three of the songbird quests, if you chose to do so, with alts. Unlike this event in which you cannot.
Why even bring that up when it has very little to do with my post which is about the need to NOT need third party sources to experience something. Which, again, all three songbird quests were entirely possible to do within the game with the use of alts.
I'm starting to think that Lisette might have cheated. Maybe I'm wrong and people just voted for Astrid the most (girl, red dye and closest with Bert to the Quest Giver) but I can't help thinking about the event being rigged from the beginning lore wise.
We got a lot of Bert memes out of this event, so I'm satisfied.

Poor Rodrigault, my logical valentine. :(
Somebody from the English dub needs to explain for me, why exactly so many English-players hate Astrid's suggestion that much.
->As I play in my native language a ka German (and the game uses most of the time regular Hochdeutsch and no oldfashioned dialects), I don't see where all the fuzz is coming from.
To roughly translate for you what Astrid is saying in the German version:
Quote:
"Ah, you're back! Are you curious, which advice I have to offer to our lonely soul? I like to tell you! Simply put he has to expand his horizon."
"Through the talk with him and his acquaintances' statements it became undoubtedly clear, that he has an untainted reputation as a leader and pillar of society."
"But because he got an important and influential position, it's probably not easy for him to find that, what he's searching for, at his workplace."
"And since he has no noteworthy interests apart from his duties, the options of our man are sadly very limited. That's why I suggest, that he should start the search for love at his customers - those, who know him good enough to appreciate his strong character, but aren't so close to him, that a relationship could become unpleasant."
I mean, I don't want to scare any ancient people here with my own opinion, but it's quite normal to find a partner at one's workplace.
->Also, the way it sounds in German, Astrid points out that he a ka the Lancer-tutor should get to know people who AREN'T that dependent on him / wouldn't stand all day under his feet, if you get what I mean.
Even the german version states that Astrid not only wants him to look for romance at his workplace (which would be only okay-ish with maybe a coworker from a department you barely have any contact with), but especially romance in clients. Kunden.
I don't know about your workplace, but even in Germany that would be regarded unprofessional.
As Walt Disney said, "Don't dip your pen in the company ink." It's extremely ill advised for sexual harassment and allegations, discomfort among staff, and in many cases those in higher power abusing their position to take advantage, or those in a lower position trying to gain one.
When working for a boutique it was mandatory to sit through a video on workplace harassment and relationships.
Sounds extreme, but that's just how things are.
Thinking on it more, I'd be less bothered by the way in which this played out if the blatant nepotism was called out. Yet much like with Lyse, it isn't - which is a real shame, since the protagonists spend a significant amount of time lecturing various characters on matters of 'fair' politics and morality. Something which, in turn, has turned out to be immensely hypocritical on more than one occasion.
So you guys (RicaRuin and Gula) say that - for example - two teachers from the same school can't be a couple? Or, like in case of my adoptive-brother, two doctors from the same hospital aren't a thing?
Oi, I don't want to say old-fashioned to you two now, so I settle for: Well, apparently my family raised me to be very open-minded and more accepting of other lifestyles.
Also, if you tell me you have never shipped your adventurer(s) with one of the class- / job-tutors in your minds, then you either are lacking imagination or are lying to me. xp
Most people think of the worst case scenario of workplace harassment, failed romances and the fallout that follows. Successful office romance isn't that rare, you just don't hear about them as much, since the fallout scenario is much more noticable. Understandibly company management pushes heavily against them, since even one such event might be catastrophic (even if most of them just end without issue).
Depending on industry, hitting on clients is pretty unprofessional though, I agree. Might not be much of an issue, given how Eorzeas more guild and individual centric.
I'm not saying that, one would have to differ per situation. In a small company with maybe 20 employees, it would be eeeeh. In the case of doctors you mentioned - I don't see a problem as long as they are from different departments/stations. The idea behind this 'professionalism' is simply that eventual disputes or the likes won't interfere with your performance and ability to do the job right. Thus, you shouldn't have to interact with your partner during actual work.
Brings me back to the German dub: Astrid talks about those who aren't too close to the tutor at work.
->I suppose she says something similar in the English version...?
She is saying something along the lines of not those that are dependent of him / rely on him, like his subordinates. That is why she suggested clients instead.
I play in german aswell (since its my native language too) and thought Astrids suggestion was a bad advice for the person in question - I dont generally think that its bad to find your partner through work (at least as long as there is enough work-distance between the two, so that you dont mix personal life and buisness to much and carry buisness problems into the relationship and vice versa), but to me it sounded a lot like our "client" had no idea what he was actually looking for. If two people just fall in love after meeting at their workplace: Thats great!
But starting to date around there, with no one in mind, just to see what sticks...? Thats what Astrid suggestion sounded like to me - she wasnt saying "Hey, maybe you can think of someone in your life you're already intrested in or of someone who has shown an intrest in you" - she basically said "yeah, go through everyone you meet at work based on the criteria that you're not to close to them that a relationship could cause trouble".
On top of that it doesnt solve his underlying problem of currently not being really "fit" for a relationship, with the only thing he cares about being his work - while the other two suggested something to "fix" that and make him a more intresting or... "social" person, all Astrid is suggesting that he just picks anyone. Shes treating a symptom, not the underlying cause - and I cant imagine that a relationship in which one of the partners is more intrested in their work than anything else works really well (unless maybe, the other partner is exactly the same and they treat their relationship like a buisness). You can ofc hope that he changes once he found the right partner, but I wouldnt take my chances with that.
To me Astrids suggestion is something he can do last - after he worked out, what he actually wants from life and a relationship, after he found some intrest outside work, that he can maybe share with their partner... and then, if he hasnt found anyone by chance, he can start to look around in his social enviroment, including his workplace (given he follows some ethical guidelines). But just "blindly" asking out people based on working with them but not to closely? Nope, not a good idea.
