You know that thing people complain about NIN having? Let's give it to WAR because even if it's available to all tanks WAR would get the most out of it.

I think, given the stale 'everything feels the same' state of the game as it is, they would butcher blue mage so badly it wouldn't even be fun. Blue mage is suppose to learn the skills of the enemy that uses such against him...which would mean they would get FAR MORE abilities than the usual 30(ish) that every job has...which clearly isn't gonna happen. So out of the plethora of enemy abilities you could learn...you are only going to get a fraction of them...which limits the limitless possibilities of blue mage. They probably won't even be cool abilities either, like a Morbol's bad breath, or a cockatrices petrify...it will just be your standard run of the mill abilities that pretty much recycled from other abilities.
...but then again...I'm probably the only guy playing this game that actually doesn't want more jobs found in the next expansion.
This. I would expect that Magitek be saved for a job whose name smacks of technology, or at least something vaguely Imperial. Blue Mage connotes an image almost pure opposite to that. It's the stuff of for-better-or-worse, eclectic traditional that, while emulatable, requires a natural-born connection to the land to understand. There are few things Garleans would feel more, albeit subtly, provoked by. If there was a culture putting out Blue Mages generation after generation, you could safely bet they'd have suppressed it wholly.
To me it seemed like it ought to be a blend of Sharlayan Aether-tapping and Bestiary learning, the Gridanian elemental-infused/-sapped Wildlings, Thavnarian psychosomatic and essential alchemy, and maybe some sort Myrcidian beast essence arts or Dalamascan skin-shifter techniques, etc. Essentially, all those old cultural centers that for the most part (obviously not the Dalmascans) have managed to keep their distance, but know what's at stake and respect that even while having troubles of their own.
Magi-tech
A magitek job has to be magic based, as well as technological.
Blue magic could involved drawing powers from the primals, much like Ultima Weapon.
as nice as Blue mage would be as a tank it will most likely be a DPS with two swords
We'll there's two routes they can go.
A full on Blue Mage like you want, or they can do what they did with Time Mage, bundle it in with another job as additional flavour.
It would predominantly be a magitek job, even called 'Magitek Knight' or something. But it's signature would be absorbing the powers of eikons and reusing them through it's magitek. This allows it a unique weaponskill set bolstered by Blue magic cooldowns.
If they really aren't going to do a real blue mage, then this would be the best way of getting it in there, just like time magic with AST.
Didn't the leaked info already stated that BLU will be a Melee support dps?
Outside of XI and even then, blue mage has always had a hard cap on abilities unless you want to share that knowledge of how let's say Quina can learn more than the 24 abilities available to them. Most of which would be useless in an MMO.
And those people you "know" who'd want level based abilities are awful as they'd be useless in most content.
But it's clearly not first hand info. It could be what they're currently working on, but it's not garranteed to be correct, or that development won't change. With absolutely nothing announced yet regarding 5.0, and still over 6 months away, they could still change things around.
I mean, if it happens, it happens. And people will be like 'omgbluemagewtfsoawesomeIcan'twait' no matter how shit it ends up being. L'il 'ole me can't stop it...
I guess the worse of it all wouldn't be a new anthropomorphic race, or new jobs...I can tolerate that...but I don't know if I can deal with another 10 levels to cap.
To throw a bit of optimism your way, Three, remember everyone saying RDM would be an impossible job to implement with the trinity; the job then became something that in general was very well received.
Yeah RDM ended up about as good as you could hope for in a hard trinity game. It helps that in FF XIV white magic already included stone/aero spells.
And a lot of jobs go through changes. BLM gave fire, ice and thunder spells different purposes in the rotation instead of them being basically the same spell but with a different element. Summoner became a pet job. DRK reworked into a tank instead of sacrificing HP to deal damage. There's no reason BLU can't be tweaked to fit into FFXIV, and the monster angle can simply be baked into the lore/quests of the class.
That said I wouldn't necessarily expect BLU to be a tank job. I wouldn't expect a fourth casting dps anytime soon either but a blue mage wearing typical heavy armor tank gear would feel a bit odd to me. Then again FF doesn't have a lot of traditional 'tank' jobs anyway.
No I don't want Blue Mage as a tank, and this thread needs to die.
I disagree.
We should get the class Gauis plays.
Those folks with the gunblades are glorious.
I'm quite certain most people don't even know what a blue mage is on these threads.
I'm pretty sure most folks didnt play the blue mages in regular FF games.
Like Kimahri ffx
Like Quistis fviii
and more i can't remember blue mages suck and always had people are just jumping on bandwagons dont drop bluemages fix DRKS reduce WAR mitigation by alot increase its dps decrease paladin dps increase there mitigation and just return the old DRK skills with the gunblade class and you fine square.
If the leaks are true, Blue Mage will be a support DPS. If that's the case, it may very well be a Scouting DPS like Ninja. If implemented as such, they'd make BLU a DEX melee DPS with lowish personal DPS but high raid utility.
It seems that each DPS archetype (as evident by gear) share some similarities.
Striking: High personal DPS, low raid utility.
Maiming: Moderate personal DPS, moderate raid utility.
Scouting: Low personal DPS, high raid utility.
They can easily make Blue Magic based on DEX similar to how Ninjutsu is based on DEX (and PLD magic based on STR).
Buddy, I played blue mages in FFTA and FFV, and they're the one job I like not because of lore or aesthetics or something superficial, but because of their top-tier gameplay. That's when you know you found something special and dear and you think to yourself "This is something different."
People are hyped for blue mages because BLU ROCKS! You can go cry about it elsewhere.
Well congratulations OP, you got your wish
OP is still alive...right? No planes crashing on him?
You got a while yet to go buddy but there's light at the end of the tunnel!
Exactly like this lol
Just love how SE sometimes give the players what they demanded, but in a total different way as they wanted.

We finally got BLU, but it is a DPS class.
