All North American Data Center Worlds Network Technical Difficulties (Oct. 26)

Okay, so I'm not the only dealing with this. This is the only game that gives me drama. Every online game I play, works perfectly. It's not my ISP--I got them to open all the ports, this game has no firewall/virus/malware restrictions.

It's Square.

Apologists and SE reps can say what they want, but Square Enix needs to get it together & own up to their error. How are they gonna sell the next expansion with their Doritos chip data servers? I am not spending 40-50 bucks for a start screen.

For the money FFXIV players spend on services, non-existing items, & subscriptions--- the last thing we need Square doing is taking scumbag notes from EA.

I'm not very happy right now. I only been logged for about 15 mins and I disconnected. It was the first time I got on after trying all day. Please fix it soon.

I was able to log in for a bit at 7:21, but then I was booted a few minutes later. I feel sorry for anyone who was running Sophia with me.

2nd night in a row, cannot connect to NA data center, able to connect to the rest. Come on SE, pretty sure, it's not my ISP. Fix your game!

As much as you guys nickel and dime us players, the least you guys can do is give us a bit more detail on what's going on vs just blaming ISP's and not even listing which ISPs are the culprits such as Comcast, Cablevision, AT&T etc. (>_>)

I was able to connect and maintain a connection for a good hour since 7:50. Haven't disconnected yet.

I'm having better luck with a VPN proxy in AWS zone us-west-2a than from AWS zone us-east-1a. us-east-1a seems about the same as my native east-coast FiOS service.

I'm sorry if my timing's off, I'm trying to compensate for the time difference between PT and CT and I think I'm wrong. I got in at about 9:50 CT.

Latest update to the issue on the lodestone is a total cop out, SE is ducking the issue - as they always have when it comes to the craptastic Level 3.

Basically they are saying the issue is with an upstream provider, so players should contact their ISP. Except as we know from experience and posts in this and other topics, contacting ISPs is as useful as a chocolate teapot in the summer.

So, SE is placing the blame on un-named parties (which we know is Level 3 and their technical issue) and then pushing the onus on the player to resolve something that the player has absolutely zero influence on.

Square Enix, I wish you guys would talk to your provider and tell them that they need a secondary option in case Level 3 fails. This could easily have been avoided by having an alternate routing available.

So I called my ISP as instructed. They said everything was fine and the only traffic that seems to be having issues is traffic to FF14. Nothing else is affected. That does not sound like it is my ISP's fault. They refused to open a ticket because there's nothing wrong on their end, it's completely on yours.

If I payed the 18$ to switch my NA character to one of the EU servers as a last resort would that fix anything since they don't seem to be affected? I've been thinking of doing this for a while since most of my friends are over there but would that screw up my character?

I have three characters on Gilgamesh. A main that is maxed out, and two alts. I can't log in and play on my main, but I "CAN" log in and play on my alts on the SAME server/world. What??? I don't get it. It can't be an issue with my ISP since I'm able to log on the same world with two alts, but not my main (also on the same world).

I don't understand how SE wants us to call our ISP's and tell them "Hey there is route issue almost close to the SE server" ISP's aren't going to open a ticket because they don't control at all last mile routes.........So reading last update from them if I understand correctly is like they aren't doing anything to solve this and it is our responsibility to call our ISP's and work with this?

Yesterday I managed to play a few hours at night, then got kicked by 90002 again. Today I managed to log in again, as I am logged now as I write.
I don't know for how long this will last, but personally I can at least see some improvement in the situation.

Is your main in a heavily congested zone, while your alts are not? The connection in this game is highly sensitive to bad/lost packets, and being in a zone that requires more communication between the servers and you means more chances for those.

It's not necessarily "your ISP" that is causing the issue; it's the route your computer is taking to get to the server, which is handled in part by your ISP. It's also the servers saying "I didn't get an ack, or you sent me a bad packet, I'm done talking with you."

IoT based DDoS attacks on DNS servers. Without DNS = connectivity issues. One company Dyn, was heavily affected from these IoT based attacks, which crippled their DNS.

SE has no control over the DNS servers out there. Dyn was one of many DNS companies that were affected and caused connectivity issues for many Internet Services.

See..I thought about this as well. One of my alts is in quarry mill, by the PoTD npc (which we all know gets pretty crowded). Another one is in LL at the main aetheryte. Can log in fine with those two. My main..is just outside the apartments in Mist. I don't get it lol..

See that is something I don't understand on my computer I am forced to download the patches through a VPN server my daughters can play it fine on their PS3 now I have been able to successfully download it by bridging my PS4 to my computer using a VPN server but sadly they charge about $6 a month if you go to a free when you're only allowed a 5 gig download limit if your paid its Unlimited

I was also able to log into my alt during these issues and not my main. My alt is also lvl 60, and was actually in higher population areas than my main (my main was in The Goblet - deserted!). Before seeing so many others having the same odd main/alt issue I thought that perhaps the specific zone/areas my main was in had crashed themselves; kind of like how back in the day EQ1 and Vanguard would have memory leaks in certain areas and would crash for a time and be unable to log into. But the sheer amount of other players experiencing this main/alt phenomenon led me to believe that probably wasn't the case. I'd say it would be highly unlikely that everyones mains would have been in the same zone as mine. My husband also had the same main/alt issue after coming home from work, and neither of his characters had been logged in since the day before when there were no issues (unlike mine which I had been playing when the data centers crashed). This also partially debunked my thought that maybe somehow the server/data center was having an issue where it was "hanging on to" certain characters that had [or had not] been on when the issues started occurring.

I was finally able to log in last night after fighting with it for over 24 hours. A few friends that had been having issues were on as well. We are all on Behemoth..but we were able to run raids and everything. Idk if the issue is resolving or what. But most of us are stI'll on. Hope the rest of you have better luck :/

I understand Final Fantasy says it's a internet service provider issue butt Final Fantasy 14 is the only game I can not play without the use of a VPN Elder Scrolls online and the others I am allowed to play Perfect

And I just did a quick test check this out I can play every game perfectly fine even Final Fantasy 11 but I cannot play Final Fantasy 14 without the VPN

Getting dcd on Coeurl just now.

The point being if it was our internet service providers I wouldn't be able to play none of the games expecially Final Fantasy 11 I just tested World of Warcraft , Elder Scrolls Online , Final Fantasy 14 even a old school game called EverQuest

Out of all them games listed Final Fantasy 14 is the only one we're having problems with

I think Final Fantasy 14 gateways are bad because every game is working perfect

Which explains why I'm able to play Final Fantasy 14 with the use of a VPN

Are people still having problems connecting? I was able to log in this morning without issue. I also was able to maintain the connection I had last night until I logged off around 1:20 am.

No response in an hour, let's hope no news is good news.

The download issue as far as updating the patch files is still happening I am waiting to see how long it would take to disconnect me if it does I have stopped using my VPN server since they said that the problem was fixed

So I regret to say as far as people who are having troubles with the patch download error file I suggest getting a VPN as far as for PlayStation 4 who is having the patch download files either Bridge with a computer are a iPad or iPhone or a Android

Eidos / Ormuco finally performed traffic engineering to exclude Level3 from their upstream transit. Now most people in North America will reach them through Cogent, Tata or Verizon.

Over 24 hours though, that's ridiculous for this kind of easy fix for any operations team.

Yes I'm still logged in as well so far everything is going good I just wish they would fix the download patch error for PS4 because that is still happening also with the PC as well

Well, last night. I was kicked off of my internet and was given Limited Access. When I went to the kitchen to make coffee, I noticed a truck outside. And a person was working on wires, across the street. Those wires, are directly connected with giving me access to the internet. So, I am guessing Time Warner Cable was alerted on this, and progressing on fixing things like this. However, I am still getting problems with DC'ing. Which makes me think, that it isn't JUST people's ISPs. But the connectivity with SE's servers.

Also, just to report. I am keeping a close eye on Level 3's site.

And I noticed the Internet's percentage is lower, and teh Managed Services are higher. Which tells me things are being fixed on their end. However, I think we should have something like a back up generator to help prevent these problems in the future. Don't get me wrong, i understand completely that we are going to have Outages. They are inevitable. But, it could be in the better interests to actually have a back up plan for when things like this happens.
