Please don't generalize. I'm NA, and I don't like world PvP. I only like controlled PvP - instanced battlegrounds and designated PvP areas. My favorite PvP is not one-on-one combat, but scenarios with a strategic goal.
Wow dude this exactly what got me hooked on WOW. The first time i started playing me and my friend were new to the game... so a 10 lvl higher A-hole killed us and then decided to camp us.... We both took him down at the same time.... he called for friends... we called for backup and we had so much fun for like 1h... we ended up using the night elfs ability to turn invisible and wait at the entrance of the horde town... when he came out we raped him and his friends! .... it was just a lot of fun.
Along the way we started questing separately because i played more and had more levels but whenever one of us got attacked we called each other for some fun payback time! :)
I thought PK system ultimately brings fun when you caught someone else off guards?? If we wont bother to caught offguard why bother? PK system only brings war mentality for player, not competition. major player against open-pvp, or should we make a poll for it?
You're also forgetting that there is only one faction in this game. Friendly competition is one thing, but PKing that brings about the 'war mentality' can also lead to insults and some really ugly language if the players can talk to each other. The kind of PvP you're talking about usually happens between groups of characters that are given a language barrier.
Also, I personally prefer that we're all the same faction. It feels more like we're banding together to fight a common enemy.
Card Game for PvP. Simple & Fits the Final Fantasy role perfectly. (Yes i know everyone, even Yoshi-P, seems to think of PvP as battle only).
Dear Yoshi-P, expand your thoughts on what PvP can be!
PVP can be fun, and not a hassle on anybody if implemented correctly, why are people opposed to it anyways ?
Exactly. Way back in WoW's beta days, the Forsaken (undead) spoke Common and could communicate with Alliance characters. This led to a huge amount of bile that was spewed both ways, so it was removed and Forsaken started speaking Gutterspeak instead.
Aion does the same thing. Asmodians and Elyos can't understand each other (well, last I was playing there WAS an amusing workaround using your bazaar comment, which was universally understood).
I'm sure many other MMOs do this, too.
When opposing factions can understand each other, insults start flying. The 'war' takes a life of its own and the fight becomes personal.
It could be either. In the end PvP is still not just battle-related content only.Quote:
Card game would fit into the mini-games category.
It's just generally thought of like that and termed the same way due to other MMOs etc...
I have a few questions.
If there was toggle-on/off open world PVP then what kind of rewards would you expect for defeating another player?
Also, what kind of effect could that have on the economy of Eorzea? Could/would it become a world where you need to PVP in order to get ahead? And if so, would that not mean that, over time, costs would go up, meaning you would almost need to PVP in order to keep up with prices?
Basically what I'm getting at is that I don't mind toggle-on/off open world PVP but only if the rewards are non-monetary, or at least are of extremely low value. Otherwise I could even see bots working their way up the power levels and then jumping on every lower level person they can find to gain money, and then selling that gil online. Something I'd detest happening.
What kind of rewards are offered in other MMO's with open-world PVP? Does it impact the economy?
LOL! Wow........this debate is like the exact opposite of what was going on over at the Aion forums around the time I left that game. Over there, it was a debate over why some people wanted a PvE server and over here it's people clamoring for a PvP server.
Since Aion is a PvP(vE) game, the PvP'ers are the dominant voice telling all the "carebears" who wanted there to be a dedicated PvE server to go play FFXIV or "Hello Kitty".
So as a PvE'er I would like to take this opportunity to say that there are precious few MMO's out there that do NOT support open-world PvP, and that FFXIV should remain a PvE-centric title.
First, because FF titles lean toward cooperative play, requiring groups of people to enrich their own characters to work with other players toward common goals (like taking down NM's). But mostly because the supporters of open-world PvP shouldn't be able to have their cake and eat it,too. If PvP is implemented in this game, make a separate server for people to go to. Otherwise, leave the Open world griefing in games that have the lore to support it, and leave the "carebears" their FF and Hello Kitty.
pvp4life all the cool kids are doing it
Id like to see PvP im some form of PvP-Leve system, possibly tournament.
And also sign-up PvP arenas if some people wanna blow off some steam.
Rewards could be something like Guildleves have, something diffrent next day. (I'd still prefer gil over items)
There should also be a some type of Difficulty range to choose from, to match up the players levels with each other.
Kinda like the local craftleves option to choose wich craft-level.
New Edit:
Openworld PvP i could agree if it would be "Instance'd PvP" and doesnt affect the free-roaming adventuring. But there should be boundries to how far a player can stray off the instance'd PvP area in the open world.
I would be for organized PvP in the future in an arena setting. Fitting into the lore about Uldah Death bouts and such that were described on the website before launch would be a great way for it to fit into the game. But I would like battle content to be focused mainly on balancing PvE. PvE balance is the most important aspect to me and if changes were made to balancing I would ideally have it only be in affect during arena battles.
Eh, I'm not really for pvp..it wasn't implemented well in ff:xi, chances are they won't get it right this time...besides its way too early to worry aabout pvp in the games current state
There was PvP in FFXI, maybe you never found it.
It was called brenner & Ballista.
It's still PvP, but nothing close to as WoW's PvP.
No Jump and No open PVP thank you. They're both meaningless in this game imo.
Plenty of other games out there where PVP fits better into it's universe and is being executed a helluva lot better than SE has the potential of getting right I think. PVP is going to take more man power or take up the man power available to try and plan, create, balance and all the work that goes with it. I would MUCH rather prefer all that time and energy be put into PVE content such as dungeons or other group activities like Campaign Battles in XI.
Jumping is a useless feature, and by useless I mean I haven't found a ledge yet that made me cry for the ability to jump. It's also something I don't remember doing a considerable amount of in Final Fantasy so I don't see the point. And it will be abused more than ever thanks to the endless debate about it. If a standard jump is put into the game, people will be jumping as often, in the most awkward ways and as obnoxiously as possible, just to piss off all the people that didn't want jump and annoy the people that didn't even care about having it in the first place.
It's a different team then FFXI and Yoshi-P looks like he really knows what he is doing. He even said that he is a PVPer at heart so PVP will be there and it will not neccessarly suck like it did in FFXI. As per Yoshi-P said, the chances of a open world PVP are very slim so you don't have to worry.
As for Jump it is far from being useless. It is true very few FF games made use of it but it has an enormous potential. As for now, Yoshi-P would like to use Jump to avoid obstacles.... Instead of going around all the time, you would be able to jump down a ledge or jump back up... jump over an obstacle. It also opens the door for some very clever level design.
I saw some concerns that people had about jump and battle mechanics, but i can tell you all that jumping will not affect battle at all... i really don't see how it would or i don't recall any MMO who implemented it into battle. As for Dragoons will probably not use the regular jump but rather an ability/spell that will make them jump much higher..
I would LOVE to see PvP in this game but only if its an arena / instance so it does not effect the PVE aspect of the game. That way people have a choice if they want to PvP they can, but they are not forced to or get their gameplay interrupted bec of world pvp.
I thought about an option for some kind of open world PVP that will not affect the other players who prefer to PVE and quest.
Maybe they could give us the option of having our linkshell/guild/companies declare war on each other. Maybe a group can declare war on another group and you can attack only members of that specific group. Alliances also can be made with other groups etc... It needs to be elaborated but that is the idea....
Instead of mog houses, they could give us some landmarks.. fortresses that we can capture and own. We could then decorate those fortresses and would be the meeting place of our group/company. The stronger and the more victories the group has, the more NPC would you have to defend you fortress....
Another group could raid that place and take it for their own.
This game was made PvE-centric. It should stay as such. I'm not particularly against PvP, but if I wanted to play a PvP game, I wouldn't look for it in an FF game.
I personally feel that PVP ruins games. I quit WoW because they try so hard to find that perfect balance in abilities between PvE and PvP and playing that game was like riding a roller coaster trying to keep up with the latest hotfixes and class changes. At one point in my life I enjoyed that feeling, it was exciting. But now that I've grown up a bit I suppose I grew out of it. I want to play a stable game with challenging PvE content. I've learned that you can beat the rush you get in PvP, and that's by killing a challenging boss with a bunch of friends playing balanced classes.
I'd be lying if I said PvP never had good times, though. I remember one time in WoW back in vanilla a friend and I were farming consumables and started an all out 40v40+ guild war in Winterspring. It was totally awesome, but those memories can stay with WoW. I want FFXIV to have its own unique memories because honestly, no matter how much they tried I don't think they could ever match my good WoW PvP memories. They should focus on what developers nowadays dont focus on, and that's PvE. There are a plethora of other games to play with PvP content.
With all that said; however, I wouldn't be opposed to something like Ballista or some kind of pvp sport like a Blitzball type thing.
I don't understand why you people are so hung up on thinking that there will be open world PvP. There is no and I repeat NO cross faction battle here. We have no Good / Evil races to compete against each other and I doubt that we ever will. When PvP is introduced and that's going to be a long when it will most likely be in the form of arena combat.
hate to butt in, but i certainly dont want or need another flag next to my name.
Besides PvP flag... just pure WoW rip-off.
People with low specs PC's... i dont think they want to accidently run into some PvP challenge & have that cause pointless lag for them, we're not suppose to fight each other in-game but rather join forces to fight the Erozean threath.
Even worse for them if they accidently forgot to turn off their PvP flag.
Open World PvP im more than positive they wont have in the game. FF games aren't about people fighting each other and killing each other just for fun. It will also raise the issue of making a PvP server. FF games however have competitions where groups rival each other for sport(blitzball ffX). In Eorzea im sure it will be arena fights(or instanced) for single/party fights. The player will not be killed but KOed until only the opposition is left standing. I Feel there should be official tournaments at least twice a month for single/party. The winners for those divisions should be given a label so everyone will know who are the said Champions until the next Official Tournament. There should also be a gil reward based on the amount of people that payed the entry fee and/or the Champions get to choose between a buff. I would suggest the buff be about 5% at most. So the Champions can really have something to brag about while creating a reason for people to try to kick them off their high horse. Also, friends or whoever can start battles but just for fun whenever the official Tournament isn't about to start.
edit: This is the kind of posts Yoshi-P would like to see based on the notice sent. People should start giving more ideas instead of more pages of the same back and forth.
This isn't like.. Runescape. People normally stay on their own server unless there is like a once a year server transfer like there was in XI. I doubt there will be open world pvp on specific servers due to this reason.. most likely it will be a ballista-type situation where you can enter the Colosseum to fight.
I hope you guys realize what would happen if the developers put PVP into this game in an open world form. This game would die so fast it will make your head spin. But for those who want PVP it will only be acceptable to do that in an arena style for example, Bob challenges Dan to a duel, Dan accepts the challenge and they are both transported to an arena where they can beat the piss out of each other and maybe other players can watch from the stands. The best part about this is nobody gets griefed or "corpse camped" if you don't know what corpse camping is go play WOW on a PVP server LOL. This way the people who want to PVP can do that and enjoy it and the rest of us who don't like PVP and don't want high level douchebags killing us and camping our dead bodies will also be happy.
They shouldn't add jump because it's a waste of development time for better things.
There I said it.
I hav to say that this is exciting news.
My thoughts on pvp would include arena style pvp where players register at the arena and can pick who they want to fight. One on one, or party vs party. Or be setup in a match making type setup.
The other thoughts would be a senecio setup where players are placed on teams. And the gameplay could be one of a few things:
Capture the flag. Players play this classic game.
Capture the bases or forts. Hold the location (as many as you can) and vet points for doing so. The team to reach the point goal, wins.
Or hold the fort/invade the fort - one team must hold on the invasion of the other team. With a time limit, but the team to complete their objective wins.
Another type of pvp I would love to see would be some type of card game. In the past ff games there have been some good examples, so I won't pick one here. But being able to collect, trade, and play other players in game with your deck of cards would be a fun pvp setup. And the winner gets a card from the other players deck. To keep it civil players would be able to challenge NPCs in the world if they didn't feel like playing another player.
The real point of pvp should have some weight, be that fame, and gear, something that rewards the player for doing so, but doesn't punish those who do not wish to play. So any gear that comes from pvp would have two levels of stats. Normal stats, and "pvp" stats that are only active when in a pvp event.
I like the idea of allowing people to "spectate" and cheer, I think that would make it a fun way of getting everyone involved.
The other thing pvp needs to be is accessible. It should be easy to get into a pvp event. So I would vote that pvp events like the scenario event I talked about above would have an active "queue" that players could place themselves in. When the event is ready, players in the queue would be prompted to join the event, or skip until the next one is ready. They should be setup in tiers. So players rank 1-11 would be grouped together, 12-21, 22-31, 32-41, and 42 - 50 would be grouped together. To make it a little more fair, while in a pvp event, all players should be ranked at the top level rank for their tier. Meaning, if you were rank 32 and got into the event, you would get a stat buff of 41 (as would other players). You would only get the level stats, but no skills, or armor buffs, but that would put everyone on a base level. After the event you would return to your current rank/level set of stats.
I don't know if players should get sp/xp but I would like to get it for playing. But it would be fun if we didnt get sp/xp if we got some form of pvp xp that unlocked pvp abilities and traits only to be used in pvp events.
All in all, I think pvp if made accessible, is a fun thing to do for some players, I for one would love to see some of my ideas added. Thanks for listening, and I hope you, your team, and your families are ok. Our prayers are with you and we hope everyone is safe.
I have a feeling that no matter what SE does for PvP, nobody will be happy. lol
I say they should just have PvP in a Colosseum type setting, like brenner/ballista in FFXI but without the game/scoring points part of it (unless people actually like that type of thing). Alternatively, they could also make a game out of PvP. Personally, I just want a place where I can face off against my friends whenever I feel like it. lol
Ideally I want simple PvP where I can choose just one VS one combat and team VS team options.
As far as jumping goes... I'm all for it. I hate feeling like I'm glued to the ground, you know? =\
I was thinking the best way to do this would be similar to Fable II/ Ocarina of Time, where you find a point of interest (cliff, fence) and you press an action button to haul yourself over it, or it happens automatically.
