That's not Viera, that's Au Ra. That was the Au Ra concept art for females before they scrapped it.

if they added any race id want something ronso-like however i feel they shoudn't add any new race and only 1 new job. they need to keep their focus on more end game content. jobs and races just take too long to develop
Elezen naming conventions are very similar to French, Eorzean Midlanders use more Anglic names, Highlanders use more Germanic and Scandinavian names, Sea Wolves' names seem to be inspired by Welsh and Icelandic names. I think we have enough European-based races... >w>
We don't care about the names. It's about attitude and physical attribute. Just look at your avatar you should understand the problem.
But but look at the nice pictures *.*

Although I don't like cutesy races, like miqo and midlanders
Highlanders, Roe, Elezen and Male Aura plz.
But Viera feels different....
I wouldn't be opposed to Veira, but so help me if they make them cutesy and frail like the poor Au Ra. That concept art for the female Au Ra was awesome :( How did we go from that to what we have now?

SE have that mega fierce race in their unlocalized (LOCALIZE IT PLZ) dragon quest MMO....but its fugly and their women are mega manly to the max! But they have fish people too :3
It's the shoulder spikes, they don't agree with meee
You mean sexed up bunny women with clawed heels, who look especially cute in the tactics games and arguably cute in FF12 (Round faces, fairly pouty faces and rabbit traits are "cute")?
The issue is it's very possible to make a "cute" Roegadyn and Midlander, they've both got at least one face dedicated to look "cute" and if you'd set them to a neutral standing position and have the muscle slider to a 0, you've just got a gentle big girl or whatever. Now, making a Au Ra, Miqo'te, Midlander, or Lalafell tough and fierce looking? Next to impossible unless if you shove them in armor. The faces of the girls for those races are all high in neotony and other "cute" features. Besides, this isn't 12, people need to stop trying to hard to make it 12 by literally slapping the Viera into the world (And expecting 0 changes to them lol)
Not really? They have round pouty faces and wear next to nothing, hardly "fierce" in my book. I mean, it's like saying Tifa is an example of "fierce" because she fights, but nothing about her shows off fierce like traits. We're focusing on outer characteristics here though, the Viera don't look "fierce" in any way, especially not in the concept art shown. I feel that a lot of people are going to have their opinions colored over a "fierce"/"badass" look because a character (In this case Fran and the Viera race) act "fierce", but that's not the issue here, because in FFXIV, anyone has the capabilities to act "fierce". However, only Highlander women and Roegadyn women look fierce, and that's if you don't compare them to the men of their race or don't try to make a cute looking one.
Well, I mean.. That was a major complaint by a lot of people, that the Auri girls look incredibly similar to the Midlander and Miqo'te (And I still end up mistaking them for Miqo'te all the time >_> ). They're tall races, with arguably similar mental aesthetics ( stoic, proud, and elegant), and honestly if they put in a more realistic looking "bunny ear" headpiece, I'd think you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between an Elezen and a Viera unless if you stared at the face for a while.
I dunno dude, the girls look plenty cutesy, guys seem kinda unique, but dear lord their foreheads and neck look just as weird as Elezen necks do.
I'd debate the male Au Ra, especially because nothing about them is distinctly Japanese aesthetically and within the lore of the race, they originate from Eorzea Mongolia if anywhere, while a section of them split off going into Eorzea Japan while retaining basically all of their original features. Highlander is also arguably debatable as I'm pretty sure we've seen a few Doman highlanders, and there was a few highlanders among the dev teams in game representations (Not just their characters, but like who they're suppose to look like. Roegadyn are again arguable as well as I can't really think of any specific society that they're suppose to mirror outside of naming conventions sounding similar to the nonsensical language that is welsh, they're the "big" race. I do agree on Elezen though, elves have always had a massive connection to Europe (Specifically Britain and the Nordic countries) since their modern version was conceived by Tolkien.
I wouldn't mind that, just give the women bigger shoulders and a height boost please <3 I'd kill for race that's just low in sexual dimorphism but on the more "masculine" side of things.
No new races for the foreseeable future please. They dropped the ball on Au'Ra hard and you can't argue with that. That legendary "please separate the face and horns options" thread any one?
You can request your fierce females (even though we had midlander and roegadyn). Viera will be how they were designedin FFXII. If SE wants a fierce female race I hope they don't use viera.
Good thing I, and many out there, don't want a fierce female race. Give me my stoic, calm, and beautiful Viera.
If what people want is a gay men race please request that. Nothing wrong with that. That's how I see every "I want a fierce" female race talk feels to me.
I feel like the verbs attributed to Tolkien are kinda hefty in this thread, the look of elves was completely taken from Scandinavian mythology , maybe not the early Viking oral stuff, but for sure the stuff in High German and later centuries, Nordic elves were tall, pretty, blonde etc. Tolkien drew on this, he also drew from they same mythology for dwarves, he did invent orcs though, there might be something he's inspired by but he really invented those. What he did invent as far as elves was that "immortal" struggle that plays a part in the novels, that the elves always have these odd jealousy of their moral cousins and vice versa. Elves were though of as whimsical, hidden, and mythical before, not really as "human" like Tolkien portrayed them as (ie having feelings, relationships etc) although in Scandinavian/Nordic myth elves did lay with men (female elf to male human) and create children. The statement Tolkien inspired modern mmo and rpg elves is totally true and I am in agreeance with that, although some did go straight to the sagas and not to Tolkien, they were just being hipsters :D
This is taken straight from wiki, don't know what their sources are (too lazy), but I also read similar info in books about Tolkien: The modern English word elf derives from the Old English word ælf (which has cognates in all other Germanic languages). Numerous types of elves appear in Germanic mythology, the West Germanic concept appears to have come to differ from the Scandinavian notion in the early Middle Ages, and Anglo-Saxon concept diverged even further, possibly under Celtic influence. Tolkien would make it clear in a letter that his Elves differ from those "of the better known lore", referring to Scandinavian mythology.
If you are really interested its kinda funny, cause Tolkien was inspired by the original sagas and written works by others on the myths, but now those same works he was inspired by in turn are inspired by Tolkien's commissioned artwork for the Hobbit and LoTR. Its an interesting thing, so I can see how one can eclipse the other till the people forget the earlier.
Honestly if you aren't really well read up in Nordic mythology , it can help a little from time to time in FF games :D and its way cooler than that Classical stuff.
Both Midlander and Roegadyn, the women aren't half as fierce looking as the guys. They're always smaller, heck with the Roegadyn, the women are like half the thickness of the men.I'm not looking for a race that's relatively "fierceness" because lmao, we have lalafell, everything automatically looks more fierce than them. There just isn't much Viera would legitimately add, especially when chances are they'd just be either tall Midlanders or Elezen with Miqo'te faces and bunny ears glued on. Plus like, I'm not sure how you'd really have calm or stoic, every race is automatically calm or stoic until you use the emotes..
I just want something like a humanoid variant of the Charr from GW2 or something. Not a "gay men race", just a race where being a girl doesn't mean you're automatically shorter than 90% of the guys you meet and you always look pretty (And in some cases, you might as well look like an entirely different species). It's so overdone and leads to the Au Ra problem (Or really the "Fantasy race" problem), which is liking the aesthetics of the Auri men means liking an entirely different thing than liking the aesthetics of the Auri women, and if you want to play a race that looks like they come from "Warring nomadic tribes", you're stuck with making a guy. I mean, Viera just don't really add much to the plate and asking for them just really sounds like "Give me more hot women, SE". Which hey, that's fine, but it really doesn't acknowledge that adding them isn't unique in the least (Not in general or within the context of the game), and still just continues to pander to the same crowd (i.e. The one asking for conventionally attractive women) with zero leeway for other demographics (Folks asking for badass looking women, folks asking for a beastman race, folks wanting something unique, et cetera).
... However, if you start talking about how Elezen with bunny ears aren't what you're asking for, and how Elezen don't look "Stoic, calm, and beautiful", maybe we can at least see eye to eye on the game not giving us what we want when it comes to the current races and aesthetic options.
Also, interesting look into history of elvish races, nice job!
Viera is nothing like an elf besides being tall. It's the problem male aura have, people call them elves just because they're tall. Everything is either an elf or a hyur to you people. If roegadyn and midlander aren't fierce then to please such a small % of people that want a woman monster (going beyond roegadyn/midlander) is essentially a monster doesn't help bring in as many people as you think. FFXIV in a lot of ways is FFXiI, the first race concept to be added besides Aura was them. I'm done talking to you though, it won't lead to anything. When your only argument is that you want something fiercer than roegadyn/midlander and that you don't want cute females anymore you're on the extreme side of reality. And before you challenge what I just said, asking for a race that appeared in FF is more normal (and one with a FFXIV design) than asking for a "fierce female" race that was supposed to be Aura (reptile race). And even with the Aura you probably wouldn't consider their original design fierce enough. To you fierce is an extreme definition. The midlander females take it very far already. You can reply if you want but I'm done talking with someone whose definitions are extreme and idealistic instead of considering what the FF series is and what influences it has. Maybe what you need is another game, GW2 maybe?
No, please. They're ugly, just like the Au Ra.
Didn't mind the viera in XII because we really only spent time with Fran and her sister, so it wasn't overbearing. And they were also a cool, stoic, fierce people. In an MMO it'd just be a swarm of cutesy bunny people with goofy names and cutesy outfits or whatever. Pass.
Don't know why you'd want more of the same. I remember in TOR the different "alien races" consisted of humans, horned humans, blue humans, green humans, pale bald humans, and humans with tentacles
There was a thread about which race you'd want next, one of the top answers was...
Pink humans
Well, unless you want crab-people or Red XIII somehow using a staff for longer than it takes to find and bring back... they're gonna be humanoids. The greatest variance we can really add after that is in the sort of curvature of the build.
Note the wolfmen and Viera pics. Note how they're at least not the same straight shape as the humanoids we have now. The knees are at a more constant bend, and the feet slope forward toward the pads and claws, adding distinct curvature to their overall profile (with an extra bend at the top for the ever-crouched wolf-people). That was one thing TOR rarely picked up on while WoW had already gotten it down to a fair extent with the Draenai.
Who cares, XII was easy enough anyway (especially with Gambits). I just used whoever I liked the most. It was Basch/Balthier/Fran most of the time for me.
Did you already saw midlanders woman running ? Who the fuck said they were fierce ???
I'm afraid a "certain" female race already took "that" role or as close as you're going to get to a "manly female" we got that coverd already.
as far as the topic goes, No, please. we already have catgirls that are pretty much hyur with ears and tail and au ra, hyur with skin cancer and horns for ears. adding a bunny ear version isn'y going to look much better. IF they are going to bring new races at least be unique.
