That is not how it works. To begin with you cannot fit in favors between red scrip gathering for 11 hours, because you buy those favors with red scrips.
Let's say you first grind out 50 red scrips and buy a set of 5 favors. From this point on you can now use favors in between red scrip gathering.
However, you still cannot just fit in 11 hours just like that. You are not talking about 11 hours that can be divided, added, substracted randomly.


If you were to fit in more then two favors per Eorzean Hour you would lose out on either red scrip gathering time or favor gathering amount. Because of travelling time to each node, which takes up a few minutes each. (twice, since you also have to go back to the favor location)

In other words first you 50 red scrips would have to be grinded.
This would take about an hour. Lets assume access to the folklore node and one gathering class.
Then the remaining red scrips would have to be farmed with two favors in between. This would take about 8 hours.
Red scrips are now capped after 9 hours, and there are 29 favors left. Completing these require another 7 hours.

As such with the method you described (which you did not think through properly), it would take 16 hours to use up all favors. With a better rate of obtaining red scrips (multiple classes, or fishing), it will still take well over 11 hours just for the favors.

Anybody else find it annoying that the crafting gear is 2* rather than say 1* like it was in 2.00

Patricians help you make > 1* Crafting help you make > 2* crafting.

lvl60 > make 2* crafting > make 2* crafting slightly easier for 1 craft over several weeks?

Seems dumb to me.

I haven't tried red scrips yet. Been to busy leveling alts, but If I have 8 characters on the same server that can all farm red scrips. Is their a way I should handle it for my main?

unless they also farm favors for 11 hours each, there isnt much use into leveling alts to farm crafter red scrips. Unless you are rich as fuck and can buy all the favor mats

Favors would be a problem for you. It takes 11 hours per alt to cap the materials from favors. Per week.
However, having just a single alt would make obtaining the materials flexible enough for you to actually cap your crafting scrips materials made for the week.

With only one character it simply isnt possible to obtain enough favor materials to make all 9 weekly refined materials.

I was mostly fine with the previous "gates" for high end crafting, but weekly lockout on mats is just insane.

Worse because you need to be a pretty serious gatherer to get favors, but even then, the ones who would like to make gil farming them can't due to the lockouts.

So endgame crafting is gated behind gathering!?

I'm gonna meld out i150 anyway in hopes that SE sees the light and makes mats more accessible.

Isn't everything gated behind gathering?^^ Jokes aside, you can get very good gear (mainhand and body) for yourself with crafting alone (through the exchange of red scrips tokens). It takes a bit longer (5 weekly caps of red scrips) and you need materials (as always) from gathering, too. But they aren't limited.

That aside, all the new 2 star crafts are very limited, yes.

IKR I got all crafts and gathering classes to 50 last year and only got up to 2* for every class. I enjoyed crafting on a casual basis it helped pass the time and allowed me to save up for a tiny house. I look at 3.0 crafting/gathering and ran as fast as I could to get away from that insane grind. It's not fun anymore and its not for most casuals either. So yea to me crafting/gathering is something not worth going for anymore.

Until we see exactly what they're tweaking, there is still little to rejoice about, sadly. Granted, it's nice to know they really do look into our feedback and are attempting to find fair(er) ground.

I can only imagine it's going to be a boost to the amount of scrips per turn in and/or a higher cap, which is nothing but a bandaid on a gaping wound for us. I don't see them changing the gathering gate. I'm a 60 BTN and MIN and I haven't made it to Folklore yet, but close. They really wanted us to specialise and focus down, and that, unfortunately, took a lot of the fun out of both Land and Hand.

I absolutely dislike how I have to plan my playtime around a gathering node timer and weekly caps that can cost an arm to make. At least with tomestones it's only 30 to 40 minutes of combat for about 5 days to cap (trial and expert roulette). Red Scrips is what Aurum Vale Hard Mode would feel like.

May have been a little too late for me. I cancelled the auto-renewal on my sub a week or so ago mainly because the whole scrips thing was so awful. That made me look at the game as a whole, and came to the realisation that I may just be done. Makes me sad because I have played since early access of ARR and made some lovely friends on my server. I don't raid (don't even like dungeons much), so crafting and gathering while chatting with friends was the game for me. Watching the ET clock and tabbing to a website to remember what I'm supposed to be gathering - not fun.

As someone who has been a "hardcore" omnicrafter since early in 2.0 I can say that you're not the only person who feels this way. I could see myself doing the weekly, but at this point I'm not too sure why I would want to because it isn't fun anymore. There's nothing fun about feeling forced to meet certain requirements each week. If anything crafting should be about setting your own goals within the system and not ones that the devs have decided for you.

Someone mentioned that a change is coming... Where did you get that information please?

Many hardcore crafters i know gave up on this system. I think i only know one person that is really working on the weekly scrip cap :/

Exactly, my problem with the current system was only partially the time and money needed to cap weekly scrip (especially those sucky gathering ones, crafting scrip with CUL is easy), but the 11 1/2 hours i would need to do per week of pure, stupid, idiotic, blindfolded and brainless grind of running/flying in circles to make a node appear so i can get enough items to be able to craft anything.

Im working 50 hours a week (with commute time) and have a life, i have time to cap my eso and crafting scrip but will cut it close on the gathering. There is no room left if i do not want to completely stop my leveling progression on classes i'd like to play.

So we will have to see what 3.06 brings - hope they dont make it worse :/

But then, they really couldnt dig the hole they threw DoH/DoL in any deeper

Coming back to the original premise of this thread... Wow people were not being melodramatic: crafting really is dead, at least the high level stuff. Here we are a week and a half in, and I can't find a single piece of the new crafted gear for sale or in the history. 0's for quantity across the board. Mats are non-existent as well.

I read elsewhere that SE is going to adjust it soon (it's in the dev tracker). If any Devs happen to be reading this, it seems a huge adjustment is needed.

I'm not expecting anything close to what the players actually want. We might get some relief, but this hilariously bad system will probably still remain. Remember, top tier crafting is the devil and it must be stamped out or else every player will feel inadequate for being poor.

I have never been so close to unsubscribing from this game as I am currently.

I just spent the better half of FIVE HOURS gathering dragon's warts, ooids and all that crap to finally, finally now at 11pm on my second day gathering to be able to make the ingots and leather to try and make the blacksmith offhand tool. Now why do I want to make this tool, I hear you ask. Well - I am a CRAFTER. I enjoy the CRAFTING side of this game. And finally after five or so hours of GATHERING I can put all that time and effort into 4 crafts. 2 ingots. 1 leather. 1 tool.

And my leather came out SQ with 82%. And my ingots came out SQ with 82 and 88% respectively. That bit I'm okay with, it happens. You SQ shit from time to time. What I am not okay with is now having made those past five hours a complete and utter waste. I can't make the final piece a HQ with SQ unless I get Excellent on the BB step. and the ultimate kicker -- the SQ tools are barely better than my already melded tools. By a factor of almost nothing.

Now SQing the ingots and leather isn't why I am angry. I am angry because those three crafts took me about 6 minutes to do in full, 2 minutes each. To get the materials for that six minute stretch of work came from FIVE GODDAMN HOURS OF "PLINK." "PLINK." "PLINK." "PLINK." "PLINK." and "WHSP." "WHSP." "WHSP." "WHSP." "WHSP."

As it stands now, crafting is in the gutter because it is gated behind hours and hours of the pinnacle of dull, lame, uninspired content this game has created to date (gather earth crystals or a flower for fifteen minutes at a time and see if you reach 10 or 3 of the item you need. If not try for another 15 minutes. Then another. You got them. Great. Good for you. Now go gather wind crystals or stones for fifteen minutes at a time and see if you reach 10 or 3 of the item you need. If not try for another 15 minutes. Then another.

Got everything you need. Great. Now put all those hours of hard work into a 2 minute craft and pray to RNGesus.

I'm done with crafting for now. Another one hangs up the tools.

And thats what is wrong with crafting in every bit of way, HQ from previous tier should never EVER been beeter then NQ from next tier, that is illogical in every bit of way and HQ should have given 2-5% boost at most. That is the most logical and simplest way it is supposed to be.
I don't understand, probably never will, why they can't scrap this shit they made, make a quick appology, give some compensation to crafters and introduce something more refined, something that gives joy to craft, not some sweatshop system. Artisans in real world are artisans because they get extreme joy and pleasure from what they do as they get results by being artisans and not hammering randomly at stuff and randomly getting results. Well, in the end its their game they can do whatever they feel its rights afterall, but I don't wanna hear a single complain from yoshida or any other developer if people start to genuinley hate this game, you have no obligation to listen to any customer as you have stated in your EULA, but we are under no obligation to use your services if that does not satisfy our needs.

If the next patch does not improve things considerably, I'll be re-thinking my sub too.

I don't understand you people who pay for a game then moan it's too hard to play. It's like buying a car then complaining to the manufacturer that it's no good because you haven't learnt to drive.

There are challenges, and there are boring grinds that suck up hours of your time and reward you with nothing. There is no "challenge" here, merely frustration.
had most crafts to 4* when HW came out, I'm now so uninspired I can barely be bothered doing the 53 quests. We're not hamsters in a wheel.

People seem to be forgetting every single thing in this game is gated in some form from character lvls restricting content, quest restrictions, stat restrictions, gear restrictions, tome/seal restrictions, completion of dungeons/trials and raids locked behind the competence rest of the group plus queue times, node restrictions, fishing location and bait restrictions, gil restrictions gated behind time/effort and supply/demand, class and skill restrictions, crafting quality/quantity/progress restrictions and the entire rest of this game which is designed to slow your progress every single step of the way. Let's not forget most aspects of this game are tied into RNG in some form or another. The scripts are an additional restriction but do not presume or try to suggest you were not restricted a lot even before it's implementation. 5 hours mentioned is not a vast amount of time and crafting has always had an element of RNG hence why prior to 3.0 when got your quality on an item up to even 99% it could still fail to produce a HQ version.

The grind, imo, is fine...

But there is ZERO utility in crafting now.
We have NOTHING to offer anyone in gear, tools, or weapons.

I think people are rightfully upset that such an incredibly punishing system has nothing at the end of it.
They are correct too, there is nothing selling on the board and no one cares much about any 2* because none of it is anywhere near good for anything.

2.4 had a far better balance.
3.0 crafting isn't dead, but it is broken.
The reward motive is gone.

Easy to disproove:

there was people with 11/11 lucis on day 3
there was people with full artisan gear on day 1
there was people with 11/11 supra on day 4

So far its been 8 days and i only see ONE piece of equipment for under 50M on the MB (its the crafting ring, which is +2CP compared to the lvl 57 ones WOOOO) - for a total we have 3 rings 1 neck 1bsm body on the MB - the body is 77.7m the neck 50m one ring 10m the other 2 50m, go figure

And im not saying its not kind of a gate like in 2.x - but the gate itself is not the problem. The huge amount of time to get through it, the limited demand of items behind it - who is buying crafting equip just to make crafting equip? - and the time needed running around braindead, stupid and wasting playtime that could be used better elsewhere. For one single piece of equipment it would take me more playtime then i needed to get 2-3 of my old lucis tools. And for what? The bang for my buck is so horrible - so why even bother?
To craft more 2 star that i do not need because there is not even 2-star food and i will be able to buy the old i180 tools/equip cheap as soon as 3-star recipes are out?

Im fine with new stages in the crafting circle and never had to have supra/artisan/lucis at day one - but im not fine with investing around 100 hours of playtime (and 6-8 weeks) for equipment that will become obsolete once we get the next type of scrip currency and new recipes.

That all depends on what you consider to be a reward or goal. If your idea of a reward or goal is, "Now I can craft gear that's meaningful for endgame raiders," then yeah, you're pretty much out of luck, but that's only one of many possible goals a person might have as a crafter. For some, the very fact that a task is difficult is enough reason to do it; at the end of it, you feel the accomplishment for doing a difficult thing. There doesn't have to be anything tangible as a reward.

Actually, to be brutally honest, pretty much EVERYTHING in this game is the latter kind. Folks strive to complete difficult content, knowing full well that any rewards they get will be obsolete in months, maybe even weeks. Why do they do it, then? For the joy in accomplishing something difficult. Nothing more. At least, unless they're fooling themselves into thinking that their accomplishment has any meaning beyond that...

Personally? I dropped my sub down to 1 month, because I'm not quite ready to walk away outright ... but am very close. My trust and faith in SE is at an all-time low, because the only thing I've seen is a single note that implied the only change they are looking at is making red scrips easier to acquire. My considered (and calmed down) opinion is that if SE doesn't fix this mess, I'm probably going to be gone by September. Wow! I couldn't have said it better myself. The only difference is that my sub ran out 3 days ago, and I'm just coming and checking the forums in a small hope that the tweaks they are talking about are more than just giving out scrips easier. Because, as you indicated, that isn't the core of the problem.

Doubling or Tripling the amount of scripts is irrelevant, I was able to cap both Crafter / Gather Red Scripts in 3 hours, granted I saved a bunch of Adamantite from the week before and I made 30 Noble Gold.

My issue is with the insane time-sinked and RNG based Gathering Favors. I did 2 Tokens worth and got 18 Blue Ooid & 31 Bladeleaf... so I spent 2 & 1/2 hours gathering and I can't even craft 2 materials, which is like 1/2 a body piece. I just don't have 11.25 hours a week to gather, and even at that I might not get what I need due to RNG, this is what they need to fix!

I'm absolutely furious at the new design. First everything costs way too many scribs and the scribs ARE NOT JUST TIME. They require considerable materials to generate in the first place. Next even after you have the scribs, if you want to trade for materials for every single batch (for a SINGLE freaking leather/cloth/wood etc) you have to acquire 10 additional Oids and 10 of a gathered material.

WHAT THE @#$%#%#$%. Who in the @#$%#$ thought this was a good design.

Where is the challange for crafters? What is hard about 2* crafting?

You've obviously not tried crafting them, as they are easy.

Weekly lockouts are not "hard" nor are they a "challange".

A gatherer's insane grind to get ooids etc is not "hard" or a "challange", it's simply an un-rewarding grind.

This is exactly right, the current system is worlds apart from the 2/3/4 star 2.x days, there is no comparison.

The people arguing against this were saying things like "you can't expect to full gear up on day 1" etc etc, a week and a half later...

How many 2* items can you see on your Market Board from the 100's of lvl 60 crafters on your servers?

On my server there are 4 HQ items and 2 NQ items for sale, in total. None of these are battle i180 items, they are all items that use less mats than the battle gear. (e.g. 2 of the HQ items are crafting rings, they use a sixth of the scrips mats a caster robe would need).

Also there are hardly any ooids etc for sale, as people don't consider them worth their time to collect...

Eh, if people did the math it's cheaper scrip wise to mine the mats up and craft the items. I think what needs to be done is have the roundstones provide enhanced quantity of mats rather than quality, then people would be excited to see these pop up.

Think the system SE had in envisioned was people farm up mats for making a single crafted piece, save the rest of their RGS for gear pieces for their gatherer, and sell any remaining ooids etc. on the marketboard for cash.

Thing is unless you are buying HQ mats you likely won't come close to using all your crafting scrips unless you buy ooids of the board.
