In this instance, it's not like there's even a hurdle (for the referrer) of buying "X" or going to event "Y". If you were going to encourage a friend to play there were no real obstacles prior.
This was designed so that people would pursue it specifically and just invite friends they otherwise wouldn't have (or buy a second account) in order to get it. It's not just a bonus you happen to get; it is the focus in itself and the friend signing up is at best a happy side-effect or something that would have happened regardless.
I've seen similar logic used before in F2P/CS games. "Buy $100 of garbage items and get a costume/mount/whatever."

Company: No! It's $100 for all these great items that we are going to assume you would certainly be buying even without the costume. The costume is just a bonus! We never had any intention at all that someone might pay the full price for the costume. *troll face* -

Assuming this is just for Recruit a friend and they dont plan to introduce a 2 person mount that can be acquired via the game at no real money cost, then i am deeply upset, i remember in WoW, i went to the effort of getting a 2 person mount in game so my partner and me could ride along, she didnt have a great sense of direction :P and liked jumping on my mount, we did everything together like that.
So Yes i hope they introduce a marriage specific one and one for other players, if they dont it is not a reason to quit, but i think it does prove SE is only interested in turning this game into a money pit, eventually there will be mounts and items u can buy from there account shop.
You dont have to make it easy for us, make it a hard long quest chain or even a 2 person mount thats crafted, like a mechanic one -

Tbh im pretty mad that SE never specified you couldn't reactivate an old account my gf stopped playing back near Christmas and we decided to re activate her account for this mount and to get her back into the game a little, and only after reading this topic did i find out that the account cannot have any paid sub time on it which is pretty shitty on SE's part as they never stated that. So Just wasted money on an extended sub time that she might not even use all off i could have just got the one month and see if she felt like playing again. Well done SE on failing to highlight this what a terrible thought out promotion. they should have had it as a new/ returning player incentive

As a new player I have to say they're just handling this promotion poorly, and here's why.
I have 3 friends that I want to refer, but because I bought the game and got 30 days free, referring them now would not grant me the rewards - this is according to customer service, whom I talked to on the phone about it.
So basically, 3 new accounts for SE that that I AM NOT going to refer until 30 days is up (because apparently I'm being penalized for buying the game). Make sense to anyone else? I sincerely hope not... cause I'm baffled at such ill-logic. In 30 days I may not be playing the game, and there goes those 3 potential customers.
HORRIBLE MARKETING.
EDIT: Now, if I mis-understood, please tell me as well as providing a source because I'm sincerely baffled at this. -

You can generate a new code every day i believe.
Give code to your friends. Before they purchase any time, have them enter the code on their mog stations (its an option that stays there only until time is purchased... so its there in the free trial)
Once the code is entered, all they need to do is buy the 90 days time and you are golden!
Have friend A use yours and friend B use friend Cs - or such. No problems. You might be able to just generate 3 for yourself over 3 days and let them all use your codes... but i have not personally tested that.
To help further: This is what my Mog station account looks like after I have given my friend code to 1 person and I know they have entered it but they have NOT bought time yet

On an account on which they have NOT bought time - there is a button right there next to 'Recruit a friend' called - enter friend code or something. Since I have paid time on my account pictured it has dissapeared -

The pictures for the wedding chocobo are different. They are completely white and there are two of them I believe. It was in one of the live letters a few months back a lot with art of the dress and tux.
I don't see why friends can't have a special mount too :/ -

Somebody else could refer you, and you could enter their referral code, but wouldn't be able to generate one yet. I have both an active account that has paid subscription time, and an inactive account that only had the 30 days that came with purchase of the game. The one has a "Recruit a Friend" button in the Mog Station, and the other an "Enter Recruitment Code" button, but neither has both available. I thought that was because of the one having paid time and the other not, but maybe being inactive impacts it as well.Quote:
