Why aren't you subbing to Final Fantasy XIV now that the trial period is over?

I am subbing for one month because neither EQN nor project Titan is out yet. I've been there done that with everything in this game already because I've played other games. I didn't want FFXIV:ARR to become a mix of a few other games released since WoW, not because that is inherently bad, but simply because I am bored of it, because I've already done it before. I can safely say that, the only reason I am playing this game atm is because I am a FF fanboi and nothing else. Had this game come out as anything else than a FF game there is no chance I woud have tried it to begin with because there is nothing new, and even if I had actually tried it there is no chance I would have stayed. The horrible first weeks and honestly almost two months now of problems, when it comes to server issues, extreme latency, RMT that they do nothing about except suspend accounts of people with too much gil, crappy customer support, really bad communication from mods etc just keeps piling up.

Is it a bad game? Not at all, it has glaring issues with endgame/rmt/servers/community, but it has a solid foundation nonetheless and I think with time it will become great for what it is. Like I said though, it is not the game for me in the longrun because I don't want to play a mix of 2004-2012 MMOs, I want a 2014-> MMO which I think EQN or Titan will give me.

TLDR I subbed for one month because I am a fanboi and had nothing else, but I doubt I will sub for much longer.

Nah pretty sure what ruined it was the horrid launch that had the fatigue system, copy pasted landscapes, no auto attack function, mages mp didn't naturally refresh, crappy optimization where a 6 core pc, 8 gigs of ram and a 7970 it would still framerate chop. While botting in ARR is an issue it wasn't what caused 1.0 to fail.

EQN does looks to be very revolutionary in how it's setup. The way the characters interact with the world and the constantly shifting world are probably the best parts of it infact. However, it's art style is absolute garbage, and it's combat is.. well, the same as every other games. They woulda benefited alot from an action combat system in that game as opposed to a wait on hotkey cooldowns with auto attacks one.

Not sure if I'll enjoy it for very long, if at all.


When it comes to FF14 tho, I honestly feel like this games gonna be ina slump until it's first expansion pack hits, or atleast until the DX11 graphics come into play (if they're amazing looking that is). I'm not expecting much outta it until then. I'll keep subbing to it tho, despite their refusal to bump ANYTHING at all to get the much needed vanity system put into the game that's SUPPOSEDLY been done since before launch and just not integrated yet.
If the FC community im in tho should ever fall apart in game via getting bored and wandering off, pretty sure that'll be the end of my sub as well. There's literally nothing else holding me here besides them.

- Lacking end-game content. Only things to do: Amdapor Keep and Binding Coil of Bahamut
- One of a kind netcode and datacenter solution: 300ms fixed server lag & no EU servers
- Terrible AOE damage checks (I'd like to see YoshiP etc. do a TITAN HM) with this lag
- No (Open World) PvP

Most people seem to be complaining about the same things, notably End Game. Some say it is a dungeon grind, some say it's too easy to get gear, some say it takes too long to get parties. I'm honestly curious what these people want from end game. Dozen of dungeons? Dungeons that guarantee gear at the end of a hard fight? More variety of gear sets to choose from? Story lines that progress passed level 50? More achievements?

Remember that you are asking this from a game that was created in 2 years while managing an existing game and is only two months old.

I did, but I'll probably not renew, when the period is over

- really boring end-game
- eveything in game is too easy, just coil 5 is hard atm, cause of bad netcode mostly
- endgame community is hilarious retarded/toxic/childish (i bet on an average of 13-14 years old players)
- craft is almost useless (tho the craft system is more fun than the combat system)
- combat system flat and boring
- lv up new classes is masochistic
- total absence of any kind of customization
- CM + AK spam is killing poeple from the inside....

But its not totally SE's fault, since the modern MMO world community request those kind of games.

Its pathetic that this issue even made it past beta when they knew about it. There is no excuse for that, and to let it progress 40 days into release is even worse.

Nah, I don't have a higher leveled character. That being said, after 16 years of playing MMOs, and plenty of people discussing/talking about the end game, it's not even vaguely hard to tell whether or not it's going to be engaging and fun. It's kinda like you personally don't have to slam your wang in a car door to realize it's not going to be a pleasant experience.

Which is a really, really good thing.

Once I hit 50, I ran Amdapor and CM and realized that I'm not going to enjoy grinding these dungeons. They were fun for the first one or two times I ran them but after that I lost interest.

At that point, I tried taking my time to crafting with a Weaver and gathering Mining/Botany but I realized that it's just overly tedious. My girlfriend walked in and said "I'm not trying to be mean but you've been tapping the same key for over an hour. IS that really fun?" ... My answer, "No, not really" and I cancelled my renewal after that.

It's a great game but I don't have the patience for it right now. I might rejoin when the story is expanded and I can visit some new content. I Just don't have a desire to grind anything. I'm 30 years old, I can think of better things to do.

If you can't give it time, then don't but when something is announced on the horizon don't have a hissy fit that you don't have it today, or that it should have been included with release. The game was restructured, and it's a HUGE leap up from 1.0 in terms of accessibility and playability. Those of us that will give it time I'm sure will be rewarded for even just a few months of patience.

also... if you don't sub don't complain if you're behind if you decide to come back in a few months. We might help you but you decided to walk away.

You can be patient and not sub. Makes no sense to sub if you're not enjoying the current experience and won't get much playtime out of the product, due of glaring issues(discussed in this thread) that have yet to be acknowledged or addressed. Your reasons for subscribing have no bearing on the gameplay experience now. Very little of it addresses ongoing issues that people are having with the game, unless 'lack of content' is their only issue. If the dev team is smart, they will have catch up mechanisms in place to get people up to speed for 2.1 content. Your assistance, as valued as you think it may be, will probably be unnecessary. However, I don't expect the current dev team to adopt common sense, when many of their design choices seem completely detached from the streamlined experience that was the first 50 levels of the game.

Reward shouldn't come from having to endure an unenjoyable experience. You should be rewarded in entertainment value for having bought the game and being a current player. It's is anyones best interest to not sub if they aren't having fun. Future content will come whether you stay subscribed or not, as long as enough people stick around to support the development costs. I would still love to hear the dev team acknowledge the decision to make fate-grinding the primary way to level in this game, as well as the ping issues, and blanket rmt banning, and how they plan to address these, and many more valid concerns. No amount of promised content in the future will make these concerns any less important.

There is more to this game than just grinding. You get out of it what you put into it, just like life. People expect the world to entertain them, why not entertain yourself?

How would any of you survived before computers and consoles?

I subbed because I like the game design (graphics) and I was always a fan of FF games and movies. I am only lvl. 32 so my opinion may change once I hit 50 but for now the game has enough variety for me to stay entertained. Usually in any MMO I did stay with one class and leveled that one character to cap. I may have tried another class but basically always stuck to range classes i.e. rangers/archers. In this game I had to, in order to get the cross class skill, level three other classes, which I normally wouldn't have done, to that level anyway. I also never did crafting, but here I had to in order to use materia.
I like the way the game gets one to do different tasks so one doesn't/shouldn't race to end game. Yes, DF is a pain as DPS but I think they will fix this over time. Also I agree with the OP about the Fate grinding. I have seen several groups in one area going from Fate to Fate. XP from them should be lowered and maybe leveled with dungeons..
So far I enjoy this game and will continue my sub..

Just a note about this, you actually don't have to level crafting to use materia, you can find another crafter on your server and request materia melds from them. It's usually customary to tip said crafter, but a lot will do it for free just to help a fellow adventurer out.

@OP all very valid points and I completely agree. Something that absolutely enrages me is the community. That and peoples inability not to stand in red stuff. It's such an old mechanic yet I see people running through it when they weren't even in it in the first place. People jumping around in it, I guess they think it won't hit them if they go Neo on it?! After being in a group "trying" to kill Chimera, yep that's right Chimera, I just flipped had to log out. Why are people so bloody stupid? I get the old connection issue, but there's a different between trying and just standing in it, or walking in to it. That and the amount of gil sellers/spammers that seem to have found away around the blacklist, teleporting whilst mining. I just give up. I wanted to love this game as much as I loved XI, but I can't it's like people went from being pretty intelligent to brainless wastes of organs in a few years.

It's not so much the grinding as it is the 45 minutes+ wait times I have to endure for the class I WANT to play, not the ones I HAVE to play in order to get instant queues.

I decided a long time ago that I'd give 2.0 at least a few months, but I don't think I will be renewing after that unless I really like the next two patches, because of:

1. Lag. When I pay careful attention and manage to avoid AOE's, but get hit anyway, it is incredibly discouraging. Needless to say, endgame looks extremely unappealing.
2. Poor customer support. I want to know I can count on help if I really need it.
3. Alt-unfriendliness (mind you, this is a matter of preference). I enjoy being able to do all that I want on one main character, and I'm no alt-aholic, but having even two characters in this game is too much of a PITA and SE clearly intends for it to be that way.
4. Bots/gil spammers. And all of the accompanying economy/account security issues.

I will enjoy it while I have a sub, but I don't think I will be playing enough later on to want to renew.

I see myself playing for a year or till the next game i want releases. I just don't see enough content to keep me engaged unless they really bring out content fast. So far i have 4 crafts botany at 50 Miner at 42 and SMN at 46. I'm sure by December all crafts and DoL will be 50 and several battle classes so i don't see this game lasting for me.

I'll agree that the bot/gill seller thing is enough to make someone quit, rarely anyone can compete with companies with groups of employees dedicated to make the most amount of gil that they can, so they can afford to undercut, which causes the normal player (not even casual) to just give up crafting or gathering, and NO ONE can compete when they are using bot programs that can teleport underground between mining nodes, and seeing as though most of them are level 50 than nothing is being done about them, I have a hunch that GM's are involved in these gil selling companies, how else could they promise millions of gil on day 1 on servers that aren't even Legacy?

I'm not bored with the game yet, but I can see it getting to that point in another month or so. I already brought a new character from 1-50 and finished the storyline, been through all the dungeons, and now the only thing left is AK and fighting some hard mode primals (which I really don't want to do). I think once the housing kicks in and FC has more activities to do, then i'll have more fun. Seems right now all I can do is craft and wait.

Not subbing cause square enix pro mog system doesnt let me pay...

The difference is there are lots of people who are enjoying the end game. It isn't a universal dislike, such as slamming your wang in a car door, it is more of a "Do you like mayonnaise on your sandwich?" type of situation. And until you try mayo on that particular sandwich, you can't know if you'll like it.

I subbed for one month. I will continue to sub as long as I enjoy playing. If and when I stop, it will most likely be because of people, not the game.

Same here. I have 6 credit cards and mog station isn't taking any of them. I sent in a support ticket. Like jesus what the hell.

The battle system was one of the main reasons why I didn't renew my sub. I really enjoyed the 1.2x battle system and was quite sad to see it go. I also dislike the overall theme-park feel of 2.0. Finally, grinding for tokens is terrible and is made worse by the fact that everything is strictly tiered. At least in 1.0 the gear system was more horizontal and allowed for some creativity in builds.

That being said, one of the reasons I rejoined 1.0 after they announced jobs was because I was looking for something different from many of the other MMO's I had played. 1.0 from patch 1.18 onwards was different and turned out to be what I had been looking for in a MMO. Yes there were problems, but I really did enjoy what they did with the game. With 2.0 I am left with that feeling of going through the motions I had with other MMO's so I decided to pass.

That being said, I hope everyone who continues to play continues to enjoy themselves.

I agree with all the complaints here, I subbed for 3 mths and now I regretted.
After 3 mths sub end probably I ll cancel the sub UNLESS SE manage to fix the net-code/mob aoe lag issue, added more variety with end game content and makes leveling other class more interesting rather than just grinding FATES.

If I want to support game dev I much rather pay 12 bucks a month to ArenaNet knowing until now they proven to deliver new content every two weeks, plus I will get something out of it in form of GEMs rather than paying SE and hoping things will get fixed and new content added.

My BF and I are subbing. We got to 50 the first time a few weeks ago, ran all the story dungeons up to the rolling credits. Only a few issues:

1) Ps3 version for alot of people is pretty crappy at times, during big FATES (Savra). I'm sure others have seen bosses Vanish, no target. (Happens on BFs ps3, and even occasionally on my new PC which I had built to play this and Blade and Soul). PS4 comes out next year but BF is probably going for a new PC instead.

2) The random fast-forwards Lag. Only happens on this game.

3) Waiting for all pushy psychos to mow down what little content there is at 50, burn out from the 70+ runs a week for tomes, then move on to the next shiny game when they realize now they have nothing else to do but stand around Clone Toll in gear they can't upgrade any further complaining about lack of content.


TL;DR: Despite the flaws of the game (bots, hackers, douchebag players, lag), it is still new and beautiful and hopefully will improve more in time.

I am subbing (because I just started crafting/gathering and enjoy it) but my partner is probably not not subbing (just bought 1 month to see and because the card had nice art on it)
We both currently have no interest in grinding the same dungeon (CM/AK) for the DL equipment (and end-up looking like everyone else)
but apart from leveling up another class, this is all there is to do so...
I will stick a bit more to see how it develop but he probably won't :(

I think the 2.1 patch will be the subscribe/unsubscribe main factor

SWTOR does many things horribly, but no mmo approaches it in terms if story cohesion, and secret world spanks everything in terms of outright quality. ARR here stops you from keeping on with the story with level design so incompetent that I'm pretty sure People that have never done level design before might have done a better job (level gaps with blatant breaks in the leveling path necessitating filler grind? Seriously?

Serious case of idiotitis, anyway. I suspect you haven't played many mmo's worth mentioning if ARR's somehow impressed you, as this isn't even good by the terribad standards of now. This would've been good in 2005 or so.

Its the same sad gear treadmill most ask of us were tired of years ago. Nothing new about it. The dungeons are all worth seeing, and they did a lovely job on dungeon design, but this mayo expired many years ago and it shouldn't be used anymore. A new jar hasn't made the contents newer, fresher or less painfully obvious in how they do.

I am subbing as I have fun playing the game in more ways than just endgame content.
Fooling around with my friends and Free Company provides tons of laughs and good times online ^^

I will keep watch over the names who says they arent subbing, if they continue to make threads / posts on this forums, as it requires a sub to be able to post ;) Hehehe

SWTOR was more of a WoW knockoff than ARR is, and going Freemium just showed up much people didn't appreciate the story.

Personally I loved the Mabinogi storyline... at least up to the Shakespere part and the producer decided to make it more WoW'ish by introducing Classes and Jobs... in which even the Koreans revolted against. However the game play was "kill giant spider, kill giant golem, repeat ad nausem", the developer unfortunately wrecked the game so much that it is impossible to "catch up" as a new player. How do you compete with a player who's played for 5 years and can do 5 digit damage.

This is the nice thing about "Sync" in ARR... now you can't roll over old content by being overpowered. However this reduces the point of crafting (since nobody needs crafted items, since all they need is Green or Pink drops from dungeons, or buy the blue items at level 50.) In ARR and every other MMO you're mostly just crafting and then trashing the crafted items because nobody needs them.

That is where swtor critically succeeded at embarrassing itself, yep. Bioware seemed have locked itself in soundproof rooms and listened to nobody about anything except some grognard that worshipped burning crusade, then did nothing right in attempting to copy even that.

This is quite possibly one of the best analogies ive ever seen. Thank you for that. I'm on the same page. We need more things to do. Not this stupid gear grind design that is old and dated. I had a talk with a friend not too long ago where i ranted about mmorpgs these days and how they have missed the point entirely and become a skinners box. We should have real situations and consequences, that dragon should attack a main town and we should lose that town if we don't stand and fight. Things like that.

But i digress. This game has already been slotted into the generic "theme park" as yoshi said he wanted.

Unfortunately, I had already applied 180 days worth of game time to my account before the trial ran out. Reason for this was because I did it at level 40, as I was loving the game so far and thought that I would be playing right now, because of how much I was enjoying myself. I stopped playing a few days after hitting level 50 because I found that once hitting level cap, the fun ended. I'm not an endgame kind of guy, but I thought that leveling other classes to level 50 would keep me busy for a long time while waiting for new content to come out. Discovering that the only real way to level other classes to 50 was to do FATE after FATE after FATE, I have yet to login again. Dungeons don't give enough rewards for the amount of time you spend completing them, and leves are pretty much the same. While leves are quicker, the rewarded exp is nothing compared to FATE grinding. I love this game, I really do...But I don't want to spend ages doing the same thing over and over to level other classes. :(

Isn't it strange how with older games like EverQuest that there was certainly a grind to it in some stages but all the while doing it you were doing all manner of little things to achieve something else? Setting up a group was a victory in itself, finding a spot to hunt, not dying en route to that spot, holding that spot, succeeding at that spot, having a rare mob spawn, having rare items drop, being able to replace people when others left, and then not dying on the way back to a safe camp.

Hell finding your way around some cities was a victory..
