Mages, TP, and 2.0

It doesn't have to "mess up balance." If it's made properly, it would not mess up balance.

What you don't understand is everybody has TP in ARR, just like everybody has MP regardless of class. And every battle class (not every job) either has actions which use MP or can set actions that use MP. Therefore, there's no reason DoMs can't have actions that use TP- I'm not necessarily specifying what those actions should be. But if the resource exists, it should be useable for something.

(Craft/gather classes are getting GP/CP and will no longer have an MP bar)

the only way they would mess up balance is if you are claiming the dev staff and the person in charge of them are incompetent. if they were worth anything they can add an ability to keep the balance.

so which is it? is the current staff and leader worthless or can you trust them to actually do something right?

well since it's been done before in this very game then that's an easy question to answer. yes.

it was in game originally and it was nothing out of balance involved with them so i don't even consider that a logical question. you cannot honestly say that either flashfreeze for thm nor levinbolt for cnj were unbalanced or overpowered.

You need to say at this time, you needed it for mp so you can't compare it with BLM we got now. And ppl asked for multiple skills like extra magic def down, mp regain etc. If you implement one skill like that it won't break balance or just abit but all of them, and WSs when you dont even have todo anything to get your tp.

Game changed alot and will change alot but giving mages additional WS spam and some powerfull ability would make them uber and that willl not happen. Give them a melee tp move that needs accuracy and its fine. Then they have a possibility to use their TP.

additional? you mean a single.

people were giving suggestions of what they would like to see. it's as ignorant as saying that mnk doesn't need any weapon skills. they're not asking to be a front class dd, but to have a skill or 2 that they can use their tp on is a very small suggestion. it's pure ignorance to suggest otherwise and claim they need none.

you do realize that blm's are constantly using magic and to have a ws that uses tp would stop the spam so it could either have high cool downs or be something along the lines that assists the rest of the party. if it's not something that will effect the party in a positive way then it's completely worthless to add.

Exactly. There are plenty of times while leveling my whm that I did solo leves because I didnt have time to get into a party and grind. It would just fill each of the mage jobs out more, which IMO regardless of what job we are talking about, is never a bad thing.

Having a skill that deals damage and gives you MP based on it (which we had prior to the combat system revamp) is without a doubt useful to the party. A magical WS that inflicts some kind of debuff (e.g. magic def down) is most certainly useful to the party. these are both things you could do when your MP is low. Remember you will have your weapons out on BLM/WHM in 2.0- you'll cast with them in your hands.

i'm not arguing against having them. what i was arguing against was the "brilliant" idea that for mages they could just make convert type moves use tp and not give any weaponskills. that to me is more of an ignorant statement than most threads that get posted on the forums.

the part of the post you were talking about is me saying that for it to use tp as a weaponskill for a mage it would need to give some kind of help for the party or do high enough damage that it would be worth using if it was put in.

all i was stating is that there's plenty of ways to put in a useful ws for the mage classes and still keep the balance to the other classes. i'd rather have a ws that did low damage, but that added either a magic defense down or defense down debuff on the mob for the party to benefit from using it. even an ability like flashfreeze that would knock the legs out from under a mob so people could straight zerg for a while without having to worry about dodging would be nice.
