Except for the ones that aren't like this where you never know its going to be like that as a new player. If those are 90% of the cutscenes though then there shouldn't be an issue with making them unskippable right? Why not just have all duty cutscenes be unskippable now?

Again, if 20+ minutes of cutscenes don't stop people from using MSQ DF then I seriously doubt it will stop people from using the other ones. There's not a more efficient way for people to level up so they aren't going to stop using it because they have to watch cutscenes.

It does a couple things:
One it pressures people to skip. They get a big notification in the middle of their screen that they're about to be locked out and most people will go "Oh.. they started the fight already. If I am just standing here I am not doing my part. I should skip to help." With a little more pressure if you're the healer and a lot of pressure if you're the tank ( I have had people pull for the tank while people are watching cutscenes) .

Two it kinda ruins the impact of the cutscene. That aforesaid notification is right in the middle of the screen and kinda jerks you out of the experience. Most cutscenes ARE just boss thuds down, does something flashy and then fwoosh encounter, but some have some relevant experience they're going for.

I’m not even being hyberbolic, here. I have seen people call out pullers by name and try and get everyone else to attack them as well. On the flip side this is NOT ok. Yelling at people or going straight to insults just because they did something "rude" or bad mannered is not the right reaction. But a lot of them have been yelled at for the same thing before.. so they're just reacting as they remember others have. This doesn't excuse it but this is probably the worst side of player interaction in this game, if someone breaks known community standards, they are "marked" now and fair game. This is not cool. Agreed.

I will mention that the fact you've run the content a million times, or how old the content is to YOU.. doesn't matter though. Using this as an excuse is denying the fact that there are always going to be new players and one of the reasons everyone gets so mad about you skipping cutscenes is because you are judging the value of THEIR experience on YOUR values. For that sprout or WHATEVER who is sitting there with the filmstrip next to their name, they possibly are seeing something new and wonderful even if you've seen it a thousand times.

Your average cutscene is at most 3-4 minutes for most content. This is not a huge ask. If you do not have free time to watch cutscenes and you are on such a tight schedule. Do not run content that may get you placed with randoms. You apparently do not have time for it. As a fellow full time worker I would be supremely surprised if a cumulative 10-25 minutes per nightly roulette gauntlet absolutely trashes your schedule.

You don't have to agree with the people who are getting toxic to have the position that you as someone who interrupts peoples cutscenes is ruining their experience. Just because those people are wrong.. does not make your position right.

Both parties in the wrong here.

The puller should have waited as it wa s common courtesy, however the white Knight should also have just not engaged the puller or gotten overly emotional.

I will often just sit down next to a player engaged in a cutscene. If I’m the tank, that’s the end of it usually. If I am the healer, I will happily let the tank die screaming. As a DPS my choice is less influential, but this would mean the party is lacking 2 members at least.

Again, I don’t say anything. If someone questions why I’m sitting there I just emote /point at the cutscene player.

I'm also gonna put my two cents in here, though what I'm saying had probably been repeated by everyone else here in the thread.

It is common curtesy to wait while someone is in a cutscene, and if you pull that's essentially "rushing" the player still in the cutscene whom feels compelled to skip the cutscene they want to watch due to you pulling before they're ready to go. Just because you done it a million times, does not give you the right to hurry up the whole party. Your millionth run is someone's first run. And yes, people who actively attack you are also in the wrong. Just for pulling early doesn't equate to you having to deal with toxic behavior, but just know you should probably wait while a player is in a cutscene in the future.

Also, saw earlier that you said you have a fulltime job and you don't have a lot of time to play. My answer to that is there isn't any excuse. I used to work a fulltime job before I got sick in 2019 while playing FFXIV, and I worked retail. I got home absolutely exhausted but still found time for FFXIV and I never pulled early if someone was in a cutscene, there were times where I didn't notice and apologized afterward, but typically I waited. There is no excuse here for you, try and be more patient with other players and allow them to watch their cutscenes.

You didn't. They did. They need to wait for the healer to be there. Or suffer the consequences of not having one. Watch your cutscenes and don't feel self-conscious. Don't cut your experience short because of impatient people.

That is just it. You said it most efficient way. SE has not adjusted for every CS in the game. Take away that giant bonus and what would MSQ DF get. First time player bonus is garbage. And I have not seen it since ARR, but I am very careful about pulling with CS. I have seen people get glitched in several dungeons where they can't cross the line into the boss room, not even after the boss is killed. Nothing like ruining a persons run by making them do it over because they can't exit properly.

and yet people still run MSQ roulette despite 30mins of forced cutscenes. Shocker. No doubt they'll stop queueing for leveling roulette by the thousands for 20s of forced cutscenes! /s

Besides, it wouldn't change anything if cutscenes were made unskippable. People love their roulette rewards. Especially since with such a change, it wouldn't matter if they used a roulette or hard-que'd a dungeon; there'd be forced cutscenes all the time no matter what, so might as well go with the option that gives the giant bonus.

Besides, as you pointed out, 90% of dungeons, for the newbie to watch the terrifying monster swoop in and roar it would tack on 10s to the run. The horror.
and for the remaining 10%, those are MSQ cutscenes like the ones in Stone Vigil & Thousands maws and thus the sprout should get the opportunity to watch them without being bothered or pressured lest they miss out on the fight.

I've had one experience with this, and that was during my first Thousand Maws. Everyone except maybe the healer had never done the dungeon before. I heard battle music and the sounds of combat, and got a 15 second warning that the boss room was about to lock. Note, there is zero indication that you wont be locked out of the boss fight until the party wipes or wins. So I agonized for a couple seconds before saying "screw it, I'll watch the cinematic in the inn later" and skipped it. That way I could get in and try keeping whoever was fighting alive. This is how I learned that the healer is the one who'd jumped the gun. Since I was playing pugilist (was only in the early 20's), I didn't have much of a tool kit yet. But I used what I did have to try pealing aggro off the healer. The 2nd DPS joined in next, an archer I think. Which meant we were throwing attack after attack to try pulling the boss off our healer who was unable to stop moving long enough to throw out any heals, and desperately trying to kite to stay alive in the process. By the time our tank was in the fight, the healer had been downed for too damn long and I was about to go down as well. Needless to say, we wiped. And our healer blamed the wipe on the 3 of us for "wasting time watching useless cutscenes. Nobody cares about the story, it doesn't matter at all." Until I mentioned it, the other two players didn't even know you could rewatch cinematic in the inn. They thought that if you miss a cut scene, it's gone forever.

Moral of the story? Not only is it rude to jump the gun while the party is watching cinematic, it can in fact cause party wipes.

I have seen this too, my attitude is simple.

it is good manners to wait for people to see the cutscenes. Patience and a little courtesy go a long way.

Imo it depends on how long the cutscene is.
If it's a really long cutscene I don't really feel like waiting especially if I am already stressed for time.
Some cutscenes really do go on for a really long time.

Especially since it's old content, at some point I don't think that you can expect people to wait for you if you started playing so deep into an expansion.
It's the same with spoilers too, obviously if you know that someone is watching/ playing something you shouldn't deliberately spoil it to them.
On the other hand, some people unironically get mad if you talk about how Sauron was destroyed in LOTR or how Vader is Lukes father.
Like you had so much time to watch the movies, you can't expect people to not talk about anything to avoid spoiling things.

And the same way I don't think you can expect people to sit there and wait 5-10 minutes for you to watch a cutscene before you kill a boss that is already undertuned and too easy to begin with.
Is it kind of them to do it?
Sure.
But I don't think that someone pulling in that case is some kind of a villain and evil incarnate.

On the flip side of things you can also watch cutscenes after the fact and not make everyone wait for you to finish old content they've finished a billion times over for years.

This argument could easily be made the other way around.
If everyone else has already completed the story and you're running content from years ago then it's selfish of the person who haven't finished it yet to get mad if people don't want to wait imo.
Just because you haven't finished the story doesn't mean that the world or everyones time revolves around you either.
