You’re right about that. As shown by the fact that they keep coming here to to cry and try to get their way every time they get thrown in gaol. Or ask the dev team to spend resources making them their own tab like that’s going to stop their brothels from being reported.. I’m so tired of people coming here to cry about “white knighting” and pearl clutching when all they are being asked is to please keep their clothes on in the Applebees.

Honestly SE just needs to let rp die in 14. It's become nothing but a mire of filth and degeneracy. It's all staind, and nothing is worth salvaging.

Tbh I get what you are saying but the reality is we do not have a place irl that mimics online interactions. So the Applebee’s comparison nor does any irl comparison match. Think that was the one of the points of the poster we need to adjust for the ever evolving times within this digital age it is not as simple of as things were in the past.

I do agree though please if you go Applebee’s please keep your clothes o. :P

While I agree that online interactions aren’t as black and white, the way I look at it is this:

SE owns and establishment (FFXIV servers) where it asks its patrons (players) to behave according to certain standards. We sign to agree to these standards before ever stepping foot inside. Some players decide they want to wild out anyway, and get reprimanded (strike) or asked to leave (suspension/ban/whatever). But instead of just understanding that that is not the kind of environment SE wants to foster and not doing it, they instead claim they are being unfairly persecuted by the owners and other patrons. They ask “please open up section where it is totally okay for me to behave the way you have asked me not to, because I am going to do it anyway”.

In this case the kind of environment SE does not want to encourage is an unregulated sexual one. So they do what they can to mitigate that by keeping it out of PF. ERPers need to accept that.

RP tag is totally fine. I actually think it’s a good idea. But venues openly advertising adult services are still going to get reported or taken down by a GM, even if they have their own tab.

You... Can't kill RP? If something exists people will use it for RP.
Also, there are people that don't erp. There's plenty of sfw RP going on.

The only way to get RP beyond the generic tavern thing is you do it on select few Crystal worlds.

If you're engaging in sexual activities with somebody else, and any ERP or Cybersex would count, then yes, you ARE responsible for making sure the other person is not a minor. If you're caught engaging in that activity with a minor how do you think the courts would look at it?

"Raising their kids is not my responsibility, your honour" wouldn't really be a defense.

The kid's defense would be "I'm a minor"
The parents' defense would be "we let our kid play a game rated appropriate for their age"
Square Enix's defense would be "our ToS forbids illegal activity and here are the steps we take to combat that."

I have no issues with ERPers, but this is the literal risk of open ERP advertisements of ERP venues in a teen rated game. And they've made pretty clear they don't want these open advertisements, GM's have been moderating them and YoshiP came out telling people to report in game brothels and highlighted the section of the ToS about not breaking the law, not anything to do with section 3.3, mind you. It doesn't seem they forbid ERP itself, but really, the safest bet is in private with people you're certain are an age of consent. Public advertisements means you're in a position to attract horny teenagers who deceive you about their age.

Except it hasn't. Yes, there's a lot of ERP adverts out there, but that's because there's an influx of ERP venues, I guess because they make gil out of it...because they charge gil.

The non-ERP RP community is still going very strong...speaking as a member of said community.

It has not. I run adventure-based RP's most weekends and know of others who do the same, but given the nature of that kind of RP, you can't have big groups (I've tried it, it's hell), so often they take the initiative of somebody to DM them once they have a group of people willing to do it. It's more spontaneous than what you see advertised, what you tend to see advertised are events and venues.

But venues are good places to meet people, even better if the theme of the place suits you or the kind of thing you're looking for. But it seems some ERP venues are trying to find ways around the censor I feel the best better to find non-ERP RP is probably through the RP Calendar Discord bot, the person runs it has posted here before in a different thread that venues that sell ERP are rejected and there's usually plenty of places open each to check out.

I think in MMORPG, the tavern style RP because a necessary evil in hooking people up.

Though I didn't like tavern RP to begin when I started out RPing, but they grew on me once I found myself enjoying slice of life stuff and found for some of my characters they've offered character development. And the social aspect proved good. Heck, one of the characters who serves at our tavern is more deeply involved with the story of one of my characters now after being more acquainted with them through the bar, which I am running a mission related to it this weekend.

I get that and to a degree I do not think are against the notion of SE enforcing their rules but the part I think we as a community also need to accept is while we can try to mitigate the less the desirable interactions we will never fully be rid of it and it is far easier to control our own behavior instead of trying to police others. I get the idea behind it, but this 18+ hunt just divides the community further, which personally sucks.

I think the idea behind the tab is out of sight out of mind, and to a degree maybe less would be reported outside of those that actively seek them out to report their behavior.

On a side note it always amazes me how different mmo communities are especially when it comes to certain things. How a similar genre of game can foster wildly differing views regarding similar topics.

I'm not a fan of scorched earth tactics when it comes to social interactions in a game just because bad apples taint it. Otherwise, you'd have people getting their way of nuking savage/ex because bad behaving parse raiders stain the game. Or nuke Housing because people try to scam people out of buy/selling houses or taking revenge against ward owners and etc etc.

In my last two weeks since i've joined a "we do just about everything" FC, I've been introduced to some chill RP venues like japanese styled-inn/onsen and a "library/bookstore" and even our own "nightclub" which is just an underground styled bar/dance venue.

There are bad people and good people ing-game and they'll stain or enhance respectively. That's just how it works.
