Do you have the same problem with the story as I do?

I do have a problem with my character, being the freakin warrior of light... yet

doing nothing while obviously being framed for murder, that whole scene in the banquet hall, and then doing nothing about anything else but running away while the scions threw themselves at everyone.

Its like he cant do anything useful unless Minfilia or some other quest giver tells him to do it. Great as the entire last few scenes were, particularly in comparison to the rest of the story, I was sorely disappointed by my part in it.

Well, lest see, Any final fantasy from 9 and below, Almost any other SE game (Grandia, Dragon Quest, etc) it shouldnt be a surprise when another SE game has a "mute" character. Just pointing out that its willfull ignorance to not acknowledge this. My assumption should have been corrected to say they must not be very experienced in the realm of RPG's.

look, our status as a warrior of light puts us in a very percarious position. if a bystander sees us fighting back against guards and crystal braves, what are they going to think? in this situation and only this situation, running is our best option. not only because it protects our reputation, but also because we are considered the 'last, best hope for eorzea.'

fighting a battle we can't win isn't going to help that.


(also remember, adventurer in eorzea is a nice way to say mercenary. plainly put, if there is no incentive involved, there is a high chance won't get us to lift a finger.)

I'm perfectly ok with being a silent protagonist. What I believe my character says and sounds like is for my personal role play. Putting a voice on it would disconnect me.

That said I wouldn't mind more dialogue selections. I know they are pure fluff but it's entertaining.

1) Bloating of the budget to make the game that would be far better spent on more actual content.
2) We all selected a voice out of 12 options. So you are suggesting there should be 12 male and 12 female sets of voice overs for each race? Because if not then I have to assume you mean one male and one female voice for all which would be a reduction in options for our character customization.

Don't try to frame this as them limiting choice and being bad because of it since voice over would effectively do the same thing unless they recorded literally hundreds of versions of the dialogue in different voices. Not only would they need to do that now, but for the entirety of the games existence. The cost is not worth it.

Yeah, we're more like props in the game. Not saying whole bookful of texts should be recorded for the whole story with each voice, but a few sentences here and there, a few words even... or hell, even just seeing some text sometimes that is said by our character would be incredible. @.@

Also in 4 different languages.
12 voices * 4 languages * 2 genders = 96 voice actors

Of course it would be the best if our character speak japanese only ^^

I don't have to actually hear my character say anything but it would be nice to have some text options to choose between, even if they don't effect a single thing.

What this game needs to do is pull a God Eater. Gives us more random choices, the scene doesn't even have to be a voiced one. And then for the grand finale, give us a one liner. And dual wield so I can shower SE with more money.

I lol'ed with OP post because it reminds me of Breath of Fire IV. One of my first RPG.
When Nina found Ryu (main char), she speaks a lot of things, while Ryu just nodes. Then I thought: "Oh, poor guy. Nina just found a mute boy. She is so nice! She can understand what Ryu want to tell". But no, Ryu is not mute. He is just the main char, whose voice do not appear in dialogue box.

Another case: Caim, Drakengard 1. He is really mute. Angelus speaks a lot of cool and cruel stuffs, while Caim just kill and hate everything. Caim = best character ever, despite not saying a single word. Lol

Just random thoughts, sorry xD

I have to agree with the the OP.

Some of the scenes make me feel like my character is more like Mr Bean.

Incoherent grunts and mumbles and everyone just assumes I am smart and know what’s going on.
