I feel the same way, it is annoying to me to have to go back to the city to sell a few things soemtimes. I will always prefer to open a stand somewhere while I need to afk in real life and sell things for low prices...when I come back I have room in my inventory and more money so I'm happy.

Bigger irony is that we had it already in 1.23 with the search corner and with keeping the retainer rooms.
Only problem was that although there was the possibility to buy in each city from each city market, the search corners for each city market were in 3 separate rooms instead of be done from a single NPC.
And the limit how many retainers can be in a retainer room.

Maybe at the start of 1.0
At the end, selling with retainer was faster. The people started to expect that there is nothing to buy in a bazaar when they say one with the bazaar icon. Because the majority used it as an extended inventory place with prices like 999.999.999 for each item in it.

And there were also the taxes
10% tax if you sell with the bazaar
5% tax if you sell in the market wards
2% tax if you sell in the right market ward room

Now if SE really wanted to do something original with shops they could make it so you may personalize it with skins (similar to warding on your chocobo) that can only be achieved by crafting or reaching rating ranks.

I purposed back in 1.0 was to allow retainers to set up shop outside of the Market Wards. The retainers are already selling your items, so why bother limiting them inside the cities.
People argued that it would cause the servers to crash, which back then was already a problem with the market wards being over populated and poor design around that general area.

If they allow you to decide on where to place the retainers, either a shop outside of a city, or inside a city, it would be much better than deciding to on where to set up an AFK Bazaar character.

Like I said, whether if my character has to be actively online or not is trivial.
The bigger problem is actually requiring the playable character, because you can't do both adventuring and being a bazaar at the same time. They are mutually exclusive activities.*

This usually means the only time a player would actually set up shop, is when they are not actively playing the game. This inherently means they are not targeting the maximum audience they want to, or they are sacrificing hours they could be playing to target a larger audience.

Such as, lets say the peak hours for NA servers are afternoon to evening. If the player wants to achieve a larger customer base while setting up shop out on the field, they probably want to set up shop during those hours. However, they would not be able to spend those same hours adventuring. Thus, might have a harder time finding people to group with on off peak hours.

Vice-versa, if you're a player seeking to shop from a bazaar. It might be best to wait until off peak hours when everyone sets up shop. To see if there are any better offers.

This wouldn't be as much of an issue when the servers weren't divided into regions NA/EU/JP/etc.

*Technically you can do both, but then no one would be able to buy from you. If you recall, you can't shop from someone that is not within reach of you. And you can't chase them down and shop at the same time.

no trading is for trading items. Comparing trading to a personal shop is quite like comparing dueling to pvp. They are similar but in the end they are two separate beasts.

i get what you are saying but again I would like to point out that I believe if they considered this they should make the MB and PS two different entities. MB should be what you use when you are online and playing, PS should be used when you are out in the world with some items in your inventory and you have to go afk anyway so you try to sell them to clear up some space. Or you setup a cheap store when youd normally be @ work...etc. This would solve 'sacrificing play hours'.

I still don't see how your original proposal is any different from a bazaar aside from a few minor restriction changes.
If you take a look at bazaars back in FFXIV 1.0, people mainly used it for a few things;

• Ease of access, such as setting up shop next to an Quest NPC to sell items that is required for a repeatable quest, or food and potions at dungeon entrances.
• Make inventory space, such as if you're out of room, you'll just sell items that no one would buy at the max price of 999,999,999 gil
• Request melds and repairs, if you weren't able to repair you equipment out on the field, you could request someone else to repair it for you

The latter, was suppose to be in 2.0, but for some reason still isn't. Repairs now (2.1) are done by yourself, or at an NPC.

If you want to take a look at the a still existing example of bazaar, go to FFXI, it should be still there. FFXIV 1.0 bazaar was more or less the same as FFXI.

Even with the addition of cosmetic changes to make stalls similar the ones in Market Wards, or at a rating system. It'll still require the playerable character to be immobilized.

Im saying it should immobilize the player. PS should only be used when you are afk or feel like 'working' for the money. Competitive or quick selling should always be for the MB imho. The rating system and skins were just ideas of adding something no other game has before.

I would love to have my own food store that would be amazing and If we paid rent to own that space that would be amazing to it would feel just like Log Horizon but FFXIV style it would make this game so much more interesting than always grinding. or fighting.

I thought the system they had in 1.0 (after the improvements) was good.
Tie that in with housing, now we'll have personal shops, with a search function that writes your home address on it.
