Auto-attack is a step backward.

Yea they could probably change flurry a bit to make it work. A toggle to switch between the various types of attacks that auto-attack would be doing might be kinda neat -shrugs- Just curious because that is one of the things I do like with the current system. Light Attack for soloing/tanking for the DEF/EVA boost. Pummel's just fun to see your TP rise so quickly = D Though heavy on the stamina. And though potentially annoying, Flurry has that twist that makes you pay attention.

Overall, I have to go with the wait & see how it is crowd. I wasn't one demanding Auto-Attack, but I see the pros & cons there. What I definitely know is that it's a big problem when a lot of people think crafting & gathering are more enjoyable than fighting in a Final Fantasy game. Something had to be done.

Yesterday I mowed Puks in a party while eating pizza with the other hand. As someone said, this isn't an action-oriented MMO. It's a clunky, cerebral rock. At its core, it just isn't dynamic enough to give you devil-may-cry type of battle action, and pretending that this system is trying to be action-oriented just makes it that much more laughable. Better to not even try it, than to remind players of an infinite amount of games better than your feeble attempt is.

The game could be one of the best autoattack implementation games. It can never be one of the best button mashers and c-c-c-combo-breaker games.

Well, the only game with an auto-attack mechanic I'd want is Aion, where using a skill resets the auto-attack timer and thus makes you strafe your abilities alongside the auto-attack. Rift actually comes in second as it makes auto-attack fairly useless as each auto-attack takes so long (too bad Rift sucks in every other way except for the class system though). Anything else will make it easy.

Worry and Complain when it's implemented for how it's implemented, not because it's being implemented.

Uh i see from your levels, you are mostly a mage, your battle classes are sub 20, you either just got, or havent got the 3rd and 4rth basic attacks. Why would a mage be spamming phantom dart, shouldnt you be curing, sleeping, debuffing to make weak to and nuking? If you get by pressing 1 its a failure of the sp system, rewarding you for fighting crappy monsters, not the way the game is best played.
Ill tell you that the best way to play pug is basically not to spam, if you spam, you will miss the oppurtunity to land 2 skills on sucessful evade. if you are not tanking, you get enough tp in one attack to do a 500tp weapon skill, and in 2 to 3 button presses to do a 1000 tp skill. if you are just pressing 1 you are playing like someone who doesnt know how to play very well.
If you can play just spamming 1 button either your party is covering for your scrubbiness, or you are fighting mobs that are too easy, you are definetly not maximizing your potential within the party.

Please wait until we know how it will work before posting that it's a step backwards.

if its good, its good, but since we cant jump foward in time, just saying that it looks like it aint adding anything, and will probably mess up all the good points of the current system, like basic attacks, choosing to burst damage, or be conservative and adaptable.

If you wait and say nothing, you are part of the reason bad things happen, at least the devs can look at a thread (theoretically) and say, hmmm here are the issues that make the people who dont want auto attack not want it, maybe we can make a system that will include auto attck, but solve their problems.
If you say nothing they will just be like uhhh i thought everyone loved auto attack. why are people upset now?

PPl will always complain. If there is no auto-attack... complains, if there is... complains. Yay, nothing else to add to this thread.

you haven't played mage long if you think that's what we do in this game lol. I'm a CON. CON has horrible nuking damage on NMs. I'm not allowed to nuke unless during BRs (I could but it wastes MP). DoTs aren't used because, since I'm a CON, I'm always on healing duty. Due to the MP cost and no real way of restoring MP, I have to save my MP for the cures (This was my idea and so far, it's worked pretty well) so the THMs take care of the DoTs. Why do I spam spirit dart? Only when I'm not cure bombing the hell out of the pug, I spam spirit dart for some good dps (compared to my nukes...) and then I have a levinbolt up for BRs.

Even on battle classes (Pug being the exception) you spam 1 2 or 3, depending on where your attacks are. You're almost always spamming a button where as with auto attack, you press a button and it's done.
