Why is a melee lb3 on 10% a bad thing? Were people dead and you needed a healer lb3?
Nowadays, if you have good DPS, you don’t even have to tank LB3 Byakko Ex; he dies before you need to. If your DPS isn’t up to par, then yes, the Tank LB3 comes up around that percent HP now—Byakko’s mechanics are timeline-related, not HP-related.
(In case you’re unfamiliar with the fight—tank LB3 was used during the second tiger for EX so that DPS could ignore burning it down and instead keep attacking Byakko. Basically a giant “IGNORE THIS” button. But, as I said above, if your DPS is good, you won’t need to save for Tank LB3 in current gear.)
Pharos Sirius, some of my favourite dungeon music right there only wish I didn't get it in roulettes because DRK at 50 sucks.
SCH is in Alphascape normal gear, crafted, other assortment of pieces, also it's their first time, but whatever. Didn't scope the NIN, RDM in a combination of i70-i110 pieces and whatever they get just for unlocking the job.
Pull to the gate with the zombies, I'm already hating this RDM as they try to melt one of the mobs and I honestly should've just let them have it, it would've died before it could seriously hit them anyways. I have no idea where the healer even is, so pop that Living Dead before I die which is a pretty bold, but didn't die to the Walking Dead debuff, so not too bold. Instead I die to all the autos once my invuln wears off. NIN decided to Hide in the hallway, so they were the only survivor.
Not the first time been in parties that wipe on that pull, so take it slow this time.
First boss goes off without a hitch beyond when I stopped bothering with the adds since they die to a gentle breeze and I forgot what happens when you step in the nasty they spawn in.
Next up, pull to the top of the stairs, should be easy. Missed some zombies which my bad, I forgot where they even come from, we wipe anyways. Take it slow again, I still hate this RDM. Normally I don't care if DPS focus a different mob during a single pull because it's not like it's hard to keep and half the time they're not going to take hate anyways except RDM is OP af at this level where any idiot can suddenly pull hate with it.
Coming up to the Zu, NIN straight up runs through the two adds into the boss room. As soon as the boss appears, NIN pops out of hiding with a Trick Attack. It's at this point I realize they're not using Mudras because that was a pointless gesture when Suiton exists.
Zu was a disaster, like I don't even know. Was DPS not attacking the right eggs, why did half the party die to the second raid wide? We wipe.
How did that miniboss before Siren go? I'm curious as to how bad that could've gone, but instead left. As much as I like that dungeon's music, that run was beyond rocky like I'd sooner trust the Squadron A.I over this group and I haven't done a Squadron Dungeon since running The Vault when leveling PLD and wiping on the second boss and realizing I forgot to turn Shield Oath on.
I get it Zu is awful and that dungeon is kinda sorta a step up from the ones before it, but damn.
Weeping City of Mhach - I'm fumbling a bit with nocturnal AST, but we're getting through.
We're up to Ozma, and I notice that one of the DPS is way over in another team's area. (We're alliance C, and they never moved out of B's area at the start.)
I decide to be clever and Rescue them back towards our area, so - not being sure whether pulling them across empty space would make them fall - I move around the circle until they'll slide across the platform the whole way.
Hit the button, and over they come. Marvellous. I jump a few times and start to lead them back to our group.
Then I jump again. While moving around a curved path with no edge detection.
Oops.
At least death isn't permanent here, right?
The other healer doesn't seem to notice me dead on the floor, so I ask for a raise just as we all get sucked into the black hole. Once we arrive, they start to long-cast Raise, but for some reason cancel at the last second. I'm still dead, and the rest of the party is on the way there. I think I got raised at some point, but died again before I'd gotten enough MP back to be useful.
The other teams are off down fighting Ozmashade; and the remnants of our party are still trying to fend off multiple enemies that are spawning in the first area.
Everyone gets into the warp back, and we're still on the floor.
At least I got to see what the "Doomsday in X seconds" messages are about - a giant meteor descending onto Ozmashade's platform. I've never seen it before since for as long as I've been playing, we're normally out there long before it happens.
We did get warped back to the main battle once the meteor hit and obliterated that arena, at least, but everything from there on was a slow, messy wipe.
---
Somewhat making up for the mess, our main tank was doing something sensible that I haven't seen before: turning Calofisteri so her Haircut attack would fire away from the group, instead of everyone else having to run back and forth to keep out of the way.
This isnt exactly a new thing, and is what i used to do when tanking her. However back when it was recent content, melee dps REALLY didn't like that, because it messed up their positionals, even if it was better for group survivabilty. Ofc nowadays, because most people outgear it, the dps loss from missed positionals doesn't matter as much, but I still remember getting blasted in alliance chat by the monk, ninja or dragoon.
I want to thank everyone who helped me get my O9S clear after getting stuck on it for a few months (DPS Out and Line Strat FTW.) I'm grateful that I can finally farm some nice accessories on the side for my 3 active characters to use for the rest of Stormblood and the upcoming expansion.
For dragoon u only need positionals for Wheeling Thrust and Fang and Claw,(neither the chaos thrust nor the full thrust combo requires positionals)....and u only get one of them until beyond level 62 so whoever Dragoon was complaining about positionals for one skill at the time is being super petty
Both give tanks uptime. DPS in means the tanks lose uptime on the orb. It's literally the worst strat for o9s.
I personally prefer line strat. Gotta have a caster for it, though. Melee DPS stack north of the orb, tanks/healers south, a physical ranged just south of them, and then a caster to the southeast of the physical ranged. The melee Arm's Length their Blaze, the physical ranged knock the tanks/heals towards the melee with their Blaze, and the caster Surecasts and knocks the physical ranged northwest with their Blaze. Tanks/heals adjust slightly for their Tsunami, they go off in a neat little ring while they're stacked north with the melee. The DPS exploding their Blazes on each other cures their debuff, and everyone maintains uptime on the orb (the physical ranged do not lose anything by getting punted into Narnia).
And Chaos Trust as positional too !
My mind probably blanked on that.... my bad
but other than heavy thrust and chaos thrust(which since most raids are behind the boss it isn't a hassle to do and it's mostly used for dots and proccing wheeling thrust) I don't remember any other ability from both combos to have positionals....even if I insinctively do full thrust from flank since it procs fang and claw
after trying line strat myself.... it's gonna be my go to strat for doing my o9s chests
People fail dps in and out way too many times compared to line which I rarely had cases where it failed
The only reason I didn't like that strat, is that 9 times out of 10 the tank would forget/fail to turn the boss in time, resulting in a massive AoE facing the group with no time to get out, or at least a notably longer run than the usual "two steps right". When done right it's a really nice trick though.
Hoo boy I really don't understand how people can be so undergeared lvl 60+ literally you get poetics so easily and upgrades are only 100 poetics each like ughhh it drives me up the WALL, this ties into my recent story of the most interesting Mentor roulette in awhile. I decided to tank it since I haven't been tanking much lately, I get Sirensong Sea I say hello and then I notice something odd, everyone's HP is low but not the "they're-sorta-ilvl-forthisdungeon-geared" but the "OMG-whyareu-here" geared, the BLM and AST say hello and both of them have <12k hp, I looked at their gear and it was Gubal Library gear. I don't get how the game lets you que into a SB dungeon with ilvl 148 gear, I also don't get how they didn't get the coffers of free ilvl 230 gear THAT is more acceptable i'd be glaring but I wouldn't be sitting there with my mouth hitting the ground in disbelief going really?
I talk to them and ask them do you have any better gear? They link the Aetheryte Earring as they both have one, cool that's not what I meant, I asked them do you have any gear that's over ilvl 200 that's not the earring they said no, then the AST says "it's not an issue we've que'd into every dungeon together". I don't get how this is even possible like Nidhogg is ilvl 205 no? Then it dawned on me that the NIN is the new person not them as I checked them shortly after and they indeed had a lvl 70 PLD and the healer had a 70 WHM.
I love how a sprout is more prepared than these guys who've been around for awhile, I said alright well we're gonna pull and see what happens, everything is horrible the healer popped Largess and every heal is barely moving my health bar I cycled through all my CDs and the healer just says "I think my gears broken..." I said no your ilvl is literally like 148-160 in a dungeon that drops ilvl 260 gear. We fight for a bit with them arguing that it's a MSQ dungeon and that if they can que into it they should be able to do the dungeon on their alts to which I replied there should be an ilvl sync but SE does lvl syncs instead which is less than helpful.
We do some pulls where I kite and use Equilibrium, Inner Beast, and Thrill just to stay alive and then we get to the boss this is the cherry on top, so not only are the 2 who que'd together undergeared they're also terrible who would've guessed right? They ate every telegraphed AoE and just flat out died, the healer says wtf and leaves with his BLM friend, the NIN responds with only a ? and then leaves as well right after.
SE can you please for the love all that is holy add an ilvl sync people abuse this so much lately that it's baffling just do a MSQ roulette and you'll get Poetics! Or just run some dungeons on your main! Jeeze! Ughhhhhhhh so much frustration at this system gonna go turn my brain off for the day.
Well it doesn't always succeed but the amount of fails for line strat is waaaay less than what I encountered with dps in and out in which either melees hug the orb too close that it the fire explosion overlaps or the healers and tanks missing their partners with water
Honestly once the genesis cap is lifted... I'm not touching alphascape loot again.
Whatever sub stat the omega gear has is not worth the pain when I can just augment my scaevan gear even if it doesn't have the most optimal substats
Again, lucky you. Granted I also stopped doing O9S with BRD because I don't trust fools to not blow me off the platform, so instead get to deal with the wonders of Chaos spinning for Damning Edict or the tank deciding to play Ring Around the Rosie with the boss as NIN.
At least the former is because I'm bad, but if melee are stacked behind the boss whenever his back is open, don't spin it.
Should've just went with DRG.
Don't even know why I do Chaos anymore as anything I can get from it is just for jobs I don't even play.
I think groups I was in on Aether disliked it for a different reason—the tanks may not know what they’re doing, and instead cleave the entire alliance with it. :D
That happened more often than I could count when the content was current.
If the caster is standing just to the SE/SW of you, you won’t get blown anywhere but NW/NE. They’d have to be standing beside you or in front of you to blow you off the edge.
I feel so bad for this tank I had in Castrum Abania. I usually don't run leveling roulette that much anymore. I saw that healer was in need, so I figured whatever and joined. Tank said it was his first time here. We were like it's all good. He was 69 and had a full set of the Doma Castle gear. I had my full toolkit. So I was in my lazy Expert mode. Throw up a shield and Excog and just DPS. That poor tank almost died so many times because I wasn't paying attention. He never died, but he dropped below 25% so many times. I blame Eos, she was slacking. And when I did start paying attention, he was using his CDs good. So if he did die, it would've fallen on me, I mean Eos.
As much as I like rescue... I really wish some people would learn what classes have a gap closer or can trust that not everyone is suicidal or ignorant.
Last week? Rabanastre and I was doing my melee combo on RDM on Hashbrowns as the 3 air pillars were forming. MT is dragging the boss to the safe corner and I am following while in the midst of my melee combo. Can I finish? Well.... yes but not before one of the healers rescues me through the boss and interrupts. This I at least didn't take an issue with since it was in good faith (in their experience a lot of people that "seem" to be close by die to it).
Tonight I was doing Saint Mocianne Hard roulette (game, please stop) and on the first boss (I was WAR) I get rescued as the boss does devour, making my onslaught kind of redundant but damage is damage. Course the healer was a dead silent mentor that also left immediately. I don't much care for the mentor memeing but other than that the run went fine, that is until someone decided to smack the second mud pie to the wall. Shake it off has its uses.
But I'll think of it this way, I don't believe either of these were poor choices to rescue but If I had clairvoyance I would totally use it to save inner release and surecast to block rescues I don't want ;p
I know that feel. As SAM, I often try to squeeze some more DPS before jumping out/in using Yaten/Gyoten. Occasionally though, a healer yanks me with Rescue, ruining my flow. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, I know they're doing it with good intention. But please hold using your Rescue until you're sure that someone really need it.
Oh, that's normal then. Sounded like you were describing Submission Tower.
Oh the hammers you probably meant
Those are different from the 3 submission towers at the end which by this point unless someone is new most people will not probably see it since Hashmal dies so fast nowadays...... that is assuming half of the alliances don't get cleaved by the halfroom firewing that is xD
Heavy Shot archer in leveling roulette...
No Venomous Bite even when asked...
And some madman commended him...
Another leveling roulette on alt, Brayflox.
Got to teach a beginner Dark Knight that he can use Grit and Darkside together. Super nice guy, really receptive to feedback, and was doing a fine job, once he learned that bit. That guy's gonna be a good DRK one day. :)
Two runs in the last week like this. I qued as sch on my alt for leveling roullette to get leveled and reach the next level for msq. I got Stasha, which is likely good with what happened. The tank was one level below max level, okay there. HP below lvl 21 tham... problem there. While not able to hold aggro, the tank at least tried to hold aggro and would use overpower and the CD's. This made my job tolerable, but I still had to throw out a few phyisck. Where the problem is, tank gear drops that will upgrade the tank's ilvl... tank doesn't roll. We clear the dungeon and the tank had even left it before grabbing the final chest!
Why do so many low level tanks have an aversion to rolling for loot that will boost their ilvl?! I've had 2 this way in the last week, but did get one in Brayflox that was grabbing every chest in hope's he'd upgrade his gear and it helped a lot as we progressed.
Got the turtle guildhest for the roulette where you need to kill the fire sprite in order to get the core to put said turtle to sleep. No one was new. Everyone was in gear that was 60+ and the tank was a mentor. No one else bothered with the fire sprite until I had gotten it down to 5% health and was one move away from killing it. Which is whatever. Sometimes it's spawns in a weird spot near the back ruins which most people don't expect. That's fine. What wasn't fine was that once we lit the bag the tank proceeded to pull the turtle only half way through the smoke before DPSing it down to nothing. Failing the guildhest for everyone and forcing me to requeue and wait /again/ because guildhests don't reset like other instances. And it wasn't even them just auto attacking to victory. They were using the entirety of their low level rotation, even as the healer and the other DPS clearly stopped at 10% while I tried to get a message out in party but couldn't do it in time.
I get guildhests are easy and brainless content, but it literally tells you when you load in what to do and as a mentor you frankly should know these outdated instances fairly well at this point. Hell the other DPS and healer should have known to stop DPSing as well before it got low enough that the tank could solo it down. Or know enough to read the short blurb you're given at the start. Just because the roulette gives good, easy exp when combined with your weekly Challenge Log doesn't excuse that level of inattention.
Eh it's not harmless at that level since Toto-rak is still a bit of an early dungeon
Besides Toto-rak is a level 24-27 dungeons which is 3 levels before getting a job crystal but I doubt that is the issue
At least it's not a lv 43 archer in Dzamael Darkhold who told me he is too lazy to equip his crystal or the level 43 lancer in Stone Vigil who was doing less damage than my freakin malefic spell on my AST
Last night I decided to level up an alt's ninja, and queued up for Cutter's Cry. Party comp was DRK, AST, SMN and me on NIN. The drk really liked playing the part apparently (him: The darkness feeds me! DARKNESS!! Rest of party: ...wat?).
The party went relatively well until the second ring room before the second boss. I was waiting for him to stop to pop a TA...to which the drk tank did not as they went for a full ring around the rosie. Queue random duck quack.

Everyone else had aggro except for me, and the second I realized things were gonna go south I ran over to the side. After that, everything went as expected, with the fire and death everywhere.
Trials roulette, it was Sophia. One of the tanks was new and watching the cutscene. One of the DPS pipes up, "I don't remember this fight." The other three DPS and healer just bail. We filled back up instantly, but seriously. It's a normal mode trial. There was a slight hiccup and half the party was dead at the phase change, but we picked them back up and cleared first try. I gave the comm to the new tank. Cause that couldn't have been fun. Coming out of a cutscene and seeing half the party is gone.
And I had a really slow Arboretum HM. It was me on SCH, a BRD, DRG, and DRK. The DRK and BRD didn't AoE much. Like the DRK would throw down tainted soil and use his screaming spikey deathball like only once a pull. I like to think I'm decent at MP management. I usually have no trouble. I was constantly running out of MP. And the DRG was out of TP. We didn't get a single refresh or tactician the entire run. And the bosses were slow going too. I can't remember the last time I saw Mudpie three times.
