Eh, I'd personally prefer they upgrade the Character Creation before adding any more races. And if they did, I'd want something more unique. Dunno, Yukes or something.

That said, if they do end up adding Viera for the next expac, I'd want them to add both varieties they've shown; the classic FFXII Viera as well as the 'cute' variation.
People seem to constantly go on about how they want more tall, 'badass' females, and I agree that we lack those (4-5 out of 7 options are smaller), but we similarly lack smaller, slender males (funny enough, 4-5 out of 7 options for males are tall, only Lalafell and maybe Miqo'te could be considered small, and even Miqo's are a stretch depending on what you're looking for).
Yes, I know. "But we don't need more small females!" Well, we don't really need more 'tall' males either. And I don't want SE to pull a reverse Au Ra on us so both options are the way to go, imo.

Hell, I even think the smaller variation of Viera could potentially add more variety than the taller ones could. I mean, taller FFXII-ish female Viera would likely end up looking very similar to female highlanders, and taller FFXII-ish males would probaly share the Miqo bodytype, just taller. (Even though there would certainly be a place for a tall and slender male - and no, Elezen don't count with their alien proportions)
Whereas the smaller Variation would add a) smaller (somewhere between Lalafell and shortest male Miqo), slim males, which is something we don't have at all yet (Lalas are positively tiny and somewhat rotund, and Miqos have typical shonen proportions), and b) smaller females with a bit more, uh, junk in the trunk and a similarly sized bust area. (I'll just point at this as an example, not a bunny, I know, but the bodytype fits. Au Ra may be similar, but are considerably more lithe)

I would die for Gria. But it's much more likely that Viera will happen. I feel like they've been dropping hints in this last patch, unless it's wishful thinking. But I choose to hope XD

It's not that I have anything against Viera, but I would like something more unique to be added instead. Or for them to try and loosen up the existing restrictions with customization and add more options.

I dunno about this new race, maybe first they should develop a new, more detailed character creation in 5.0, its 2018 just look the other mmos, this is so out of date

What would be the problem with striking a balance? :) If we had Viera we'd have 3.5 'short' races and 3.5 'tall' ones.
That said, I think the problem for most people seems to be more bodytype rather than height. (If height was the problem, why don't we see more people campaign for shorter male races? We pretty much have only one option for those)
Roegadyn are crazy tall, Elezen have somewhat Alien proportions and people sometimes just don't wanna play typical humans. I can understand why people want another option.

I mean, I get that Gria are presented as more 'badass' in FFTA2 versus the (female) Au Ra here, but if there were options to make more 'unruly' female Au Ra (think Sadu) I think they wouldn't seem so different.

Yea, they might be somewhat redundant as an extra race... However, could always add extra clans/subraces/whatever and make them a type of Au Ra that exist in Ivalice.
And speaking of extra subraces, mixed Miqo'tes when? Since they are a thing in the lore of 14...

The most common complaint I hear is that it'd just be another humanoid race with animal appendages attached. If we look at the original design for Au Ra, they were much more bestial, but they ended up becoming humans with horns and scales. Like Miqo'te are humans with cat ears and tails. Viera would just end up being humans with bunny ears... If we actually look at these races, there isn't much variety among them.

The trick is to add some cool background flavour lore to the races to sell them. Like how the Argonians would just be another reptile race....if they weren't drinking the sap of sentient hive minden trees that buff the hell out of them when a war is near. None of this comes up in gameplay of course, but knowing this makes the race awesome. SE could learn from this. The current playable races are kinda bland

Agreed. :) After doing the Azim Steppe storyline, I regret not making this character a Xaela. It's the culture and story that sells races, even if physically they aren't that different. I can understand where people are coming from though. When it comes to MMOs, it feels like you can never have enough options. Being able to pick from different races is one of my favorite features in games.

Its semantics really, but the fact remains that we have one race each entirely that is proportioned like Roegadyn and Lalafell, and we can yet have more proportions without sacrificing time making gear in the way that Viera would (changing proportions is easier than accounting for details). It is silly to say we lack tall female races, when there are far more of those than other things

Wouldn't the Roe and Elezen females be considered the only real tall one's? Miqo'te, Hyur and Au'ra females are in the middle while Lalafell women are dead last.

I agree with this. We have two tall ones, three average, and then Lalafell for short. So ideally, they'd add another short race rather than another tall one.

If another short race were to be added I'd want a plump one since all the other races besides Lalafell are either skinny or buff. ...Wait. Wouldn't Lalafell be already counted as plump, though?! They kind of come off as grown up toddlers to me... Still cute though.

Anything taller than a lalafell is ugly so whatever.

Highlander females average out at 5'11. Au Ra females average out at a WHOPPING 4'10". Those are pretty tall and short respectively.

Their height is more in line with Japanese standards, so for a lot of people, I think Au Ra would still count as a middle ground.

Not to toot my own tiny people horn, but I'm 4'11" irl and lived in southern Japan for quite some time and I was still very short compared to the majority of people. That height is still considered petite by Japanese standards.

Regardless, in my eyes it makes more sense to add a tall race since the three definitely tall female races are the least played in the game by far (with nothing to do with their height but rather builds).

5'2 is the standard height for Japanese women. Not sure about other Asian countries, 4'11 is a little on the small side, but we are also given height sliders to make our characters shorter or taller within a given range. Au Ra would still fall into a middling range imo.

If we got those smaller Viera models, I would probably change my Lalafell that I've been using since 2.0 ARR launched.

I'd personally count Au ra women as short, they just seem middling because Lalafell are a thing imo.

I realize this thread is kind of old, and things may have changed since the original posting date, but I would still like to give support for the concept behind this new race.

Everyone has different tastes. Some people can't stand the lalas, some people hate the M'qotes, and so on. Introducing this new race would be great, as it would coincide with the current events taking place in the world of Final Fantasy Tactics. I love the idea of using both concepts as you stated with the Hyurs, where we have Highlanders and Midlanders; beefy men and women, and the more delicate.

The Viera would be a wonderful addition to the pallet of options we currently have, and something new to enjoy. This is the world of Final Fantasy, and the creations of the brilliant minds of seasoned Japanese artists behind it. Stepping outside of that would ruin everything. So, more power to this idea! Haters will be haters, even though they know they love it and are too proud to admit it.

My main issue with Viera is that they're just not unique in design and it doesn't help we got Au Ra first (even less so after seeing the concept art). Humans with animal parts. So fascinating.

I'll give them a pass if SE can release them with their 'beast feet,' as that could mean SE might be able to make beastmen races playable someday, but if they can't do that, then I'll hate them as much as I hate the Au Ra :T

I was a supporter of the addition of Vieras but, when I see what we saw in concept art for Aura and what we got........I'd rather not have a Viera than a Wallmart Viera :/

Not really? They have only ever appeared in games that involve Ivalice, and even then Ivalice isn't THE setting of this game compared to Tactics and XII. Humans and Moogles are the only races that are guarenteed to show up in some form and not always as a race/sentinant being in the case of Moogles.

Don't take this as being against Viera being added. Nuetral to that myself. But Viera aren't that important to the FF series.

female Au Ra are the second shortest in the game, and female Miqo'tes are a close third.

Unless there's a height difference between the lala genders...

I need Viera to be tol ladies, pls. Taller than their male counterparts, at least for one clan.
