Personally, I'm not reading too much into ancient murals. They didn't paint that great of a picture to begin with.

Viera players have been coping for just about two years. We had the promise of hairstyles well before the promise of female hrothgar. We can only hope that our updates aren't put even further on hold for some femroe looking, ugly, femhroth that almost nobody would play.
They can't add to the creator due to memory allocation or whatever, that's why we don't get more options. We can't get WoD stubble because it's apparently too hard to implement. Every other race in the game has been getting hairs regularly - and still gets them regularly - despite the addition of female viera, and now male viera.
I want viera hair as much as anyone else but this isn’t it. We don’t even know what they will look like yet. There are a lot of people who enjoy beastial races, and even in my small circles of friends there are several people super pumped and ready to change into them if they do a good job with their design. Even if they probably won’t be as popular as kemonomimi races (beast races are never the most popular), they are still a worthy use of dev resources.
They used fan art as a jumping off point for male viera, so we can assume they did the same with female hrothgar. Most of the art I’ve seen of female hrothgar looks amazing and strikes a great balance between beefy and feminine. I’m really looking forward to seeing them, even if the most I’ll play one is making an alt.
Once the races are truly complete, I think they can really dig into expanding character creator. Especially with system revamps that are supposedly incoming. They said these will be the last races and I believe them. So the only thing to do after that is make them better.
A lot of the fan art I've seen shared around has them looking like brutes. I get that a couple people like that, but I don't think it's worth potentially pushing back things more of the playerbase want, were promised, and will actually enjoy. Male viera was the race that was actually heavily requested, female hrothgar is just a hanger-on. Male hrothgar already have enough trouble as is, with two hairstyles per face, no hats, and having to fantasia to even change to that second hairstyle.
I still also think male viera was released too early, they are inevitably just going to be as limited as female viera. What a waste. Even if female hrothgar look semi-okay as a beast race, if they are just as limited due to "unique heads" as male hrothgar, that's double the problems to not 'fix' later, as apparently male hrothgar unique heads was a design choice. We should have first got our female viera hairs, and male hrothgar updates, before these genders, in my opinion. Now everything is pushed back..
To be honest I’m hoping they’ll use the next six months to solve some of those issues for the new races so that their counterparts can launch with a little less controversy. I don’t think hrothgar will ever be compatible with the hair system, but I could see them at least updating aesthetician so they can switch between racial hairs and I could also see them find a way to make hats work for them. Likewise, for viera, I could see them working us into the hair system in time for 6.0, especially given how normal the male hair looks compared to the female viera hair.
I get being impatient, we have every right to be after two years. But I don’t think it should come with dismissing femroth because we want/got ours. It might be a little overly optimistic but that they made developing the other genders such a priority even after we had all written it off as 7.0 or later really instilled some confidence in me that they will put in the effort for viera and hroth in 6.0 and beyond. Even if they don’t that’s on them, I see no reason to come into the hrothgar support thread and rain on their parade for differing tastes when hrothgar players aren’t to blame for any issues we have with SE’s decision making.
Here’s to hoping we all get what we want to some degree in 6.0. It’s a long wait but I have high hopes. Feel free to rub my nose in them if I’m wrong- I’ve been one of the angriest vieras on this forum for the past two years before changing my tune, lol.
I'm not raining on anyone's parade, I just don't think female hrothgar as brutes is a very helpful request even if one or two people might like them. If I recall correctly, they took into account male viera fan art for the creation of male viera as they are now. I'm hoping they don't take this stuff into account for femhroth. If they HAVE TO use femroe as a base, hopefully it's heavily modified. I am simply advocating for femhroth to actually look good, so more players find enjoyment in the product.
As someone pointed out, I think it’s fair to assume there’s a reason aside from sex appeal that Misija’s physical body changed when she took on the spirit of the queen. Also from the one stylized picture we have of them, they are clearly a bit shorter and slimmer than the femroe who is present. I don’t think they’ll make them hulking beefcakes. Most of the art I see for them has them more like sleek panthers and lionesses than muscle furries with boobs. Then again, attractiveness is sort of subjective. They’ll never be able to please everyone, as seen with the bunnyman height panic.
They’ll likely be decently muscular but not quite as much as femroe. I maintain they’ll probably be similar to femlander in build, going off of Misija and the mural.
Does this mean for next 3 years we are going to listen to players whining about female Hrothgar every day?
Who cares? If you don’t like it you can visit one of the other myriad of threads whining about estinien’s ponytail or how nobody knows how to play the game.
That being said I don’t see much whining in this thread or anywhere else. Just excitement and speculation, maybe a bit of disappointment they won’t come sooner.
Even if people were whining it’s infinitely preferable to people like you who whine about people whining with nothing of value to add to the conversation.
"People talking about female Hrothgar in a thread dedicated to talking about female Hrothgar? Not on my watch!"
I don't think it's possible to compare the two murals evenly. The group mural might be more simple just because there were more subjects to depict in a limited space. Whereas the singular one of the queen only has her as the focus, so they were probably able or wanting to squeeze in just a little more detail there.
https://i.imgur.com/6jLiVahl.png
We don't get to see all of her, but the queen's got more of a defined body to her. Like, to be a bit blunt: she's got breasts, shading and all.
https://i.imgur.com/w8VGg2ul.png
Whereas everyone here's got a simplified, vase-like shape to their bodies.
Again, I think the suggested shape above is pretty cute and I'd be perfectly fine with it!! The lips do still worry me, but I wonder if they were referencing ronso for that, or just. Wanted to further emphasize they're women. I guess. Ehhhh.

I think a body type like this would look really good, personally. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E1b3bNDV...jpg&name=small
Cute? Brutish? Hulking? Buff? Beastial? Femininely? I'll take a female hrothgar in any of these flavors-- as long as it's sexy. ;)
This is the ideal! Especially considering some of the men's faces already have something like that in-game.
https://i.imgur.com/4sJhwQAl.png
Until we officially see a model, I'm just going to be fretting over the possibility of a too-human face, or something like the weird furry 'lips' the ronso women have in some concept art, haha.
That's my concern as well. I worry they'll try to appeal to the majority of the playerbase and not just... keep them bestial in appearance (facewise, like males). Even if they did try to appeal to the majority, there's a high chance they won't be as popular as Miqo'te, Au Ra and Viera anyway (especially when we take limited hairstyles and lack of headwear into account). I included Viera because they've been requested for since before HW days.
Basically might as well go full beast woman with the face, or why bother making them at all.
Not gonna lie, all those fanart are really nice and would actually make me want to play the race.
I'm not a furry, but-
Yeah, I'm clinging to the idea they'll stick to the standards alluded to in the male hrothgar concept art, where they rejected designs that felt too close to existing races (miqo'te in specific).
That said, there is a faint hope they can appease a few groups if the face types the women end up with are also as varied as the men's.
There's actually a fairly decent variety in how prominent the snouts are, for those who want less overtly Big Cat and more of a flatter face. Augmented slightly further with whatever nose is selected and whatever features. The first one listed is most popular by far, but it's hard to judge how much of that is "I wanted a more prominently lion-like look" versus "I could not cobble together all the features I wanted on one character, because the character creation is so restricted by face type." (An FC mate really likes the Kimarhi face, but not the manes, whereas I really like the sweeter face and eye markings on the second one up there, but then the inability to not have a beard, plus the available manes again...)
That is the flaw of merging separate playerbases or consumers into the targeted goal of "attracting" many players. You can't count on your current player base 'fantasiaing' under influence because you built them limited in mind via hairstyles and headgear. AND you can bet that negativity from current players is parroted to people outside the games circle that is interested in trying the game out. So its highly probable that they would not start out as Viera or Hrotghar and rather play another race already poisoned by the "flaw" of the games character creation experience. The worst scenario being they would not play the game at all because race customization and the gameplay are an culmination of development debt and half promises. No matter if male viera or female hrothgar is made "conventionally attractive" or not the amount of players playing them will be low even after the races are *fixed*. Not even the hype from male viera reveal is big compared to the job announcement and new data center.
It is why the "please the majority" clause is inherently flawed in this context of making a pretty or even butch lioness. However, Yoshida and the devs new tid bit of context for taking fanart as references or inspiration for Male Viera, is its own macro pocket of possibilities. Are they looking at art done by newbies? Similar art comparable to their concept arts? Or focusing on ones with high view or traffic attention? I'd look into the latter if handling the marketing division while adjusting them to fit with the opposite gender and the races overall design and lore philosophy. Meanwhile, fanarts of female hrothgar and most furry art in general with snoots or more bestial/animal aesthetics get over thousands of views and well over hundreds or again thousands of likes
While the art from ume_krs while from a newer artist is not even a quarter way to the same attention as the rest of the fanarts. And personally, the snoots are too short it looks like a dinosaur with cat ears and stick on Barbie hair.
For traditions sake of the male Hrothgar, give us a unique #4 face that is close to the what a female ronso is but more rounded like the males "khimari" one. The wait is also probably due to them making a new mesh coat for their fur textures so they would still need to make a custom face that would belong.
I'm expecting/hoping for a range like this
https://taniamarieartist.files.wordp...07/lioness.jpghttps://cff2.earth.com/uploads/2019/...ns-730x410.jpghttps://static.independent.co.uk/s3f...ebp&quality=75https://i.pinimg.com/originals/48/ce...47a3c029f5.jpg
(with maybe cheetah tear markings on the leopard face for the helion clan)
I hope the fears of them being waifu'ed are misplaced, 'cause it's a stupid idea to introduce a new niche while also trying to appeal to a niche that you currently satisfy in abundance. Female Hrothgar doesn't need to be a popular race, they just need to attract those who would prefer to play as a female beast. Bringing new people to the game good, giving existing players something new to play with is a bonus. :>
You've pretty much nailed it! Fingers crossed that's how they'll proceed.
I do hope the devs will have fun with the designs. The current hrothgar aren't just lions, and that's great. There's so many types of wild cat both big and small they could take inspiration from. I've even seen some speculative fanart previously that used Moomba (FF8) as a kind of base, which was a very cute idea.
Excited to upgrade cat size in a future patch. Never really thought they'd do it, but here we are.
Honestly i think it might come down to the hair, seeing some art tho they have similar faces and bodies the hair seems to play a big part in making them look "pretty".
outside of that, to differentiate from males it'll come down to body and/or face and i feel face is more likely to stay similar in that regard which is why im expecting a more lean build for the females (also hoping cause most gear would look awkward otherwise, already does on roes) also hoping the posture isn't a straight up hunch
I feel ya. I don't personally like to pull down 1 thing to raise up another so I don't really like to comment on a lot of the art I see but yeah ... fact of the matter is that if they looked like the jacked, male looking fan art their population would be far below even Femroe levels. TBH I don't think most people who post or signal boost that stuff would personally play it, we're just in an internet cultural wave of "inclusion" where people want all types to be represented + it's backlash to the ideal of sexual dimorphism. So ultimately it just smells of people wanting inclusion for "others" who might want that shape because they personally have no interest in playing that race regardless of how they look. As someone who played Femroe for years I know how cultist it is and that some people really do like playing the least played thing because it makes them feel like a snowflake, so I'm sure some people want them to be that way so that they can stand out when they play them.
The reason this thread is so tiny and the reason there's so lil fan art for them after 2 years is because people just assumed they would look like the lease liked thing in this game (Femroe) or like the outdated Female Ronso. Tis why I've posted tons of Furry and Tabaxi art, because that's more representative of the types of people who would actually play and enjoy a furry race.
Hell, the most common fan art used for Female Hrothgar is that "kimahri ronso gender swap" and the next most common people just pointing at the Bless Panther females and saying "That". Like, that's legit what you get when you search "Female Hrothgar" and for the past several months it's been, by a mile, the most up voted Female Hrothgar thread on reddit which I find funny because it's not even a "Hrothgar", it's years old fan-art of Kimahri as a woman.
Hopefully they aren't fetish bait like male Viera are.
I'm super hyped for female hrothgar! I don't think I could fantasia my femroe main into one (she's been with me for over 5 years), but I will definitely ceate an lionmommy alt! My personal dream would be for them to look similar to the pantera/Lupus races from Bless Online (plus a tail) since they in my opinion are a very good balance between beast/furry and... well... animu waifu. They have the ruggedness of the female roegadyn yet the grace of the female elezenand very big snu sn energy. I suspect they have been posted in this thread before but a refresher won't hurt:
That being said, I could see how they are a bit too pretty/humanoid face-wise in comparison to their male counterpart, but nonetheless I am very VERY intrigued by what they end up looking like, I hope SE can at least tease us with some concept art in the near future. ^^
I just hope they don't look like the ronso females from FFX. Concept art was nice but the models were horrendous.
nope, they're just gonna port the ps2 models over wholesale, give them a gross looking "fur" texture, and then give them a hunchback like the males for some reason (seriously the ronso were tall and stood straight cmon devs you had one single job and ya blew it)
i should clarify that this is sarcasm, i'm sure it'll be fine.
Personally I'd play something like this. I don't see the point of making something few people would actually play but I trust the development team will come up with something more universal in appeal. I like the feet too but dunno I can see people complaining they won't be able to wear current armor because of it (aka hats atm).
I'm sure the models are already decided and had hoped they'd at least share some art for them. One can hope we might actually see some npc's in game but I suspect that isn't going to happen until they're ready to reveal the race. I hope its sooner and not a 7.0 timeline.
... what? You could just as easily say that the people who want them to be slender babes have no interest in playing them themselves, because they just want some eye-candy while idling in town. There's no easy way to gauge this.
It's not unreasonable that some folks might just want a cool option without any connection to what they personally find attractive, or maybe they think a burly lion man kissing a smaller humanoid lion woman of the same supposedly intimidating species is weird, or maybe they see the shapes of the women available in-game and think it's a bit lacking.
Anyway, I think it would be cool if female hrothgar were huge and could take out a moose with just their bare hands. If I could put the gender-locked garo butterfly ribbon and similar in my character's hair and have her look like she could tear out a dude's throat with her teeth, I think that would be swell.
Nah
Looking at the demographics of this game, Femroe are so few in numbers that you could increase their numbers by 100% ... and they would still be the least played thing in this game. Why is this? They have proper animations and proportions unlike Elezen (because they came later when the team figured out how to scale the middie rig/ model), most things fit them properly, and they have a solid set of emotes. The reason they're so rarely played is that they look like men. They're the most masculine shaped female option by a mile and the least played thing by miles.
Logic would dictate that there's not a lot of people going "Ya know what? I WOULD play Femroe, but the thing that's stopping me is that they don't look manly enough. Until they release something that's Chris Evens with tits I'mma keep playing a non-Roe female".
On the flip side, logic would say that more conventionally attractive and cute female races get played more in this game. Like, I don't think you can in good faith speak against that.
It's cool for people to want what they want, but races should be made for people who play them. I recognize that my opinions about what Male Viera should look like amounts to nothing as I will never play one and looking at people who like the idea of seeing jacked out men looking women shouldn't trump servicing the people who would actually enjoy playing a furry female.
Has anyone posted this fanart by Sei/@banana_qote yet?

I've always liked the way they draw hrothgars :)
I feel the gender swapped Kimahri fanart would look better if the face was just... less human (why is face human and completely different from male Kimahri and the females themselves in X?). Make it more feline (like the males) and we golden. I won't personally play them (maybe. I do swap to female Roegadyn from time to time so who knows), but I am sick of games with playable beasts letting males be bestial in appearance and females mostly being humans with maybe beast ears and tail. I want to see more games do what GW2 does with the Charr and less what games like Tera (looking at you, Aman) and Bless do.
I LOVE THIS
