Long time reader, first time poster. Hopefully you enjoy these few
So although I have only been a part of the game for the last few months, I have relatively enjoyed the game about 99% of the time.
Things haven't been as great in the last few weeks though. Here are the 3 stories that I have from the last 14 days alone.
1. Lvl 70 RDM in o9. (2 weeks ago)
I really like the o9 fight. Its not too complicated once you get it down.
The bad thing about this fight however was the tanks who were on my server.
Run is going smoothly up until the point where soft enrage starts. At this point, somehow (I still don't know fully), the AST dies. In trying to rez the AST, the WHM dies. At this point, AoE hits and half the party wipes. Its just me and both tanks (thank you vercure).
The Main Tank takes a tankbuster and dies at the same time I rez the AST with swiftcast.
I then make the decision to heal the Off Tank. I'm hoping that the AST tries to LB3... but I realise we are about 98% of the way through the 3rd LB bar. The Off Tank then dies because he used Living Dead and, me being a lowly RDM, can't heal him back to full health.
The AST then takes the aggro and dies within 3 seconds, but luckily, they have already rezzed the WHM. As I get the aggro, we hit LB3 and the WHM uses it. We all get up, we save the run and clear it after that.
The tanks then thank the WHM for rezzing the party. The WHM then thanks me for somehow staying alive and begin the process of saving the run. The tanks then ATTACK ME for not healing them fast enough and not rezzing them first.
Normally I would be venting my frustration at them but I had to answer the front door. I came back probably 45 secs later to see that the tanks AND the AST were both attacking me with the WHM defending me and saying that if it wasn't for me, we would have wiped and repeated the last 10 mins. The tanks then argue that it would have been better to wipe. I am dumbfounded at the level of idiocy at the tanks where I just ask "Am I being blamed and attacked for saving the run?", at which point the torrent of abuse rode my way. I'm not going to repeat what they said in chat, but I wouldn't be surprised if they received some form of warning from the people who reported them. These people are on my server and makes me VERY VERY GLAD that I'll be moving when the Crystal comes around.
2. Lvl 70 RDM in o11. (last week)
About 3 days and a name change later, I felt more comfortable doing weekly content as "not everyone is an idiot". Decide to go with my mentor (MNK) into o11.
It seemed as though that NO ONE outside of myself, my mentor and the off tank had ANY IDEA how to do o11, but everyone had completed it. In fact, almost everyone had at least 2 or 3 pieces of Alphascape gear.
I have never rage quit a fight before this. It's not that we wiped a few times. We wiped SEVEN TIMES.
I'll start with saying that the Main Tank decided to tank Omega in the corner... THE CORNER of the arena. Off tank wasn't having that and stole the aggro and tanked him properly.
We wiped 3 times during the "Force Quit" phase with the Level Checker because people would talk into the blue areas. Even with LB3, we only got past that stage twice.
We wiped twice during the OPENING starboard/larboard thanks to the healers NOT MOVING during them. It felt like these people were intentionally trying to wipe the party into a rage quit.
After the sixth wipe, the tank AND my mentor explained very clearly and very nicely, what to do in every single move of the fight. 4 and a half mins later, another wipe. The tank quit whilst muttering "Bunch of noobs" as he left.
Although I don't condone that sort of behaviour, I could not disagree.
3. Lvl 60 WHM in Dzemael Darkhold (today)
Now I admit that I am a bit of a scrub when it comes to other classes outside of RDM and SAM. I like having a rotation but I also like the chaos that comes with being the sole responsible person to keep the party alive.
I had only JUST levelled up my WHM to 60. I put the glamour on and felt pretty proud and confident enough so I queue myself up and dive into a levelling roulette.
I start every single fight as a WHM saying to everyone that I'm still getting used to the abilities of the WHM and for everyone to please be patient if I overheal. This is the god honest truth because although I'm confident, if I go into somewhere that I've only cleared as a DPS, I'm nervous to do it as a Healer.
So before I have the chance to finish typing out my sentence about "i'm a scrub, please tolerate me", the tank just bolts. No Protect. Mega pulls everything. His health bar is see-sawing between high four figures and single digits even with me giving him regen and Cure II spam. The tank then tells me to use Medica II... in a level 46 dungeon. I have to kindly point out to him that you get Medica II at 50, so he tells me to keep up the regen instead... I know how to WHM. I'm not level 1.
At this stage, I'm very annoyed because the tank is still dying faster than a cockroach underneath a can of bug spray. I think 'it's a lvling dungeon, I don't care'.
At the point of the 2nd room just before the first boss, the tank then calls me out for overhealing. I get pissed off, so I decide to check his gear.
I then notice he has a Lvl 31 sword and a Lvl 40 shield. Almost everything else was between 27 and 37, mainly the lower end. I don't call him out for it, but I do say "so you'd rather me underheal you?" essentially trying to backhandedly tell him "I'm the reason you are still alive". He then tells me to focus on my DPS... AS A FREAKING WHM!
Now the worst thing to do would have been to let him die and let us wipe. But that is not who I am. I like to heal and get things done. So even though the tank doesn't know that the boss needs to be next to the purple crystals for us to damage it, we clear first boss.
Its only at this point, the tank reveals that this is his 1ST TIME tanking this dungeon. I get it, its the 1st time me healing this dungeon, let's just get through it!
We then enter the next area and I get a little tested as the tank pulls almost everything before the cave and then dies because he alt+tabbed out of the game to check on something. As much as I did the best I could to keep him alive, AoEs got the best of him. He apologised for that, so i'll give that to him. We wipe but it is to be expected at that stage. I shrug my shoulders and continue with the dungeon.
We get back to that stage, clear that area and make light work of the boss. The Lancer achieves level 62 and everyone sends congrats.
Wait... what?
Yes. I had to double take. A LEVEL 62 LANCER. The tank points it out to the Lancer who says "oh forgot to put on my soul stone". At this point I can hear the Red Mage screaming for this dungeon to end.
At the beginning of the 3rd area, I accidently press the wrong button on my controller and give the Tank regen before he pulls. I immediately apologise for it in the chat and heal myself as well as the tank.
The tank then tells me (a good minute and a half after I've apologised) "Don't regen before pull/before I gain threat". Now I would've been ok with him telling me this... If I hadn't already apologised for it. The RDM then goes into bat for me and says "If you get the aggro back before the healer gets full aggro, who cares? If you know how to keep the aggro and he's apologised for it then why does it matter?" The tank replies, "it does matter. I'd rather run up to a group and flash instead of chasing them down."
I already apologised... Sorry for making your work 4 seconds harder for you. GAH!
The rest of the dungeon was pretty much a breeze except for the main boss where the tank asks the Lancer to LB. The Lancer took about a minute to LB fully because (quote) "mb I was on the phone".
I could not rage quit that dungeon fast enough.
Sorry if you read the entire trilogy. That felt good to get out.
