I understand new people, and being a lower ilvl... but...

I was in Haukke HM and we almost ran out of time. Haukke can take like 15 minutes. It shouldn't take 55!! D: We kept wiping on the first boss because the DRG was ignoring adds and poop, and the tank was standing in poop. We get to the final boss eventually and... The DRG was about ilvl 55 and the WAR was ilvl 68 or something? We wiped on the final boss about 5 times or so. A few times because people were ignoring adds or the tank couldn't hold hate, and a few times because we hit the hard enrage timer. I had suspected our DPS was really low because the DRG had like 3.3k HP and the BRD had like 4.3k? Or something? But yeah, I understand people being a low ilvl and such but if you are a DPS you HAVE A ROTATION. You don't just spam 1 attack with the occasional Jump. The BRD was actually really good. The DRG not so much...

The main nightmare part of it all was the WAR's and DRG's inability to dodge AoEs. There were a lot of deaths and damage that could have been avoided. It only made it worse since I was literally doing the most damage of everyone in the party if I was in CS (since I was the only person in the party over ilvl80), so having to heal so much really hurt our overall DPS.

Probably a lack of dps, not mentionning positionning. I would just take it with a grain of salt. Even if it is an old dungeon, the dps requiered remains high for whoever just ran castrum and finished the story. First time I ran haukke hm was as a summoner, ilvl 55/60 or so. Back then this ilvl was normal gear and among the best. Still i had a very hard time.
The same issue occured to me on tamtara hm - last boss- With an i80 gear at that time, no matter how hard I tried, I would just fail at killing adds fast enough.

I checked DRG skills to make sure.

It was Impulse Drive. I don't think there is a worse move to spam on a DRG. Edit: Except maybe Vorpal Thrust.

Today has been a little interesting so far. No wipes on anything, but the level of obliviousness has been really high.

Syrcus Tower. Run is going okay, but a dragoon seems to be intentionally starting every pull and things are a little shaky threat wise. Second boss: 2-3 people die to the boss' reflect instead of helping defeat the 3 robots, then someone goes "thanks heals <3." Really dislike sarcastic people who blame me for their own deaths, but whatever. I decide to be the better person and carry on instead of ditching the group. After we finish, I end up getting two commendations. I can only assume that someone else in the group realized how idiotic that comment was.

Amdapor Keep HM. Tank is new, says as much, fine. Pulls two condors with the plant. I do two holys, get permanent threat, die from not expecting this. I say that I'll play more defensively. For most of the run, I stick to healing and stones, still using holy when it's effective but being careful because this guy's threat is really weak. Even the required healing to keep everyone up is almost pulling threat and I sometimes get an enemy or two for a few seconds. I pace myself, dpsing only when something is nearly dead or I know for sure I won't rip threat.

First boss, the guy on the horse. I admit to not explaining it, but mostly because they ran in immediately before I could. Tank and dragoon die once each to targeted laser, dragoon wastes a statue when targeted for charge. We still win and don't wipe. No comment from anyone, they rush forward immediately.

Run continues as normal, large but slow pulls because the tank is pulling up to the foxgloves but can't put out enough threat/mitigation for me to comfortably holy without getting everything and/or losing him.

We get to boogyman. Once again, they enter too fast for an explanation. The zombie adds nearly kill me. They let the big add explode, which we only survive because I anticipated it and went healing crazy. Rip some zombies with that save, they get them off, tank gets entranced, boss hits me a couple times, then things settle down and we win.

Demon wall room. The trash is a bit slower because I have to hold back a bit and the tank eats a dark mist fear attack. We still make it through with 5 seconds to spare, even with aggro bouncing, because I heal whoever has it including myself so we don't have to run back for the bloodlappers or anything.

Final boss. Tank congratulates the dps only and doesn't mention me. Dps congratulate tank back and also don't mention me. Fine, I don't need praise, but it seems kind of weird after all the compensation I have been doing. Boss goes normally for the most part, tank and dps congratulate each other at the end. Just out of curiosity, I look at the log as I exit the dungeon. 0 commends.

I don't know if they thought I was bad because I died at the beginning or didn't holy a lot or what. But I couldn't, or I would have spent the whole run tanking or with my face in the dirt. It wasn't the kind of situation where the holy stun alone would have bought me enough time to survive the incoming threat. I just found the whole affair really strange, riding yellow or orange threat frequently and basically being considered the weak link by the rest of the group. Anyone else run into a situation like that lately?

That story is really strange though. They probably didn't really know what was going on and just assumed it was on you, which is completely unfair. If you see mobs being pulled by a healer you should watch what they are doing. If they aren't spamming spells then there's obviously an issue with the tank. There's no reason you should be pulling hate like that unless the tank doesn't understand their enmity rotation.

All the time. A Healer's job is a relatively thankless one i find i get most commendations in lower level stuff but if you are playing for a commendation or a pat on the back you are probably playing the wrong class. You are more likely to get commendations from people who main a Healer because they get the position you are in with a weak Tank you can barely do anything. There is also a stigma in the game that Healing is easy so people tend to look down on you if anything goes wrong. People always have much more to say when things go wrong than when they go right.

Also i find commendations weird in general it feels like a lot of people just give them out randomly. Had runs where i was poor and made mistakes and i get 6 of them and then a run where i carry the group and they only finished because i over healed and chain ressed the other Healer and i get zero. Not even a "well done" XD.

That DRG lvled through FATEs... no doubt of that...
Impulse Drive is the ONLY skill worth using for attack from lvl 8 to 25...

So if they ever went to a dun on those levels, thats the skill you'll see them spam... as for what was an ilvl 55 DRG still doing that in Haukke HM even if they FATE powerleveled... its a mystery to me... but can happen...

It seemed odd for the rest of the group to purposely only congratulate everyone else, suggesting a lack of awareness of what was actually happening. You're absolutely correct though, they aren't really an indication of what a person actually thinks about skill levels and the like. I've also had cases of being recognized when I screw up and ignored when I save people. Some players commend others for weird reasons like their names or skip the process entirely, especially light farmers. I have done enough trial roulettes to basically expect 0 or maybe 1 after a given Garuda HM in a light window, simply because people want to be in and out as fast as possible.

I don't particularly care about them (I know it rewards something), but I do take screenshots when I get 3 from a Extreme Roulette.

I always give it to the tank if they're stunning bosses and holding aggro. In 8-man's I usually give it to the main tank, off tank or other healer, depending on who does their job better.

There is almost no reason to give it to a DPS, unless they're the one who actually knows the fight (A friend got 3 on a Dragoon in Stone Vigil)

The ultimate horror story.

Queuing for WoD and ending up with 5 newbie DRGs while the other healer DCs right as the MT pulls Angra Mainyu.

Did ultima hard a couple nights ago for fun on WHM. Wiped 3 or 4 times but won eventually. Tanks were a but slow on the swaps, but understandable since both were new. Raised the bard countless times despite him having at least i110 gear (2nd best gear, i had the most hp even when WAR had defiance on lol).

I ended up using heal lb3 at the end after the final set of orbs, everyone but me and a tank had died And i pulled hate. Divine seal, swiftcast medica 2 to keep myself and tank alive a bit longer, regen on myself (already at full HP), LB,. Everyone's alive, i'm tanking (both tanks voke down). Win.

Only horror because it was 2:30 am when we finished and i had to go to bed because work lol.

Since I play both DPS and Healer, I find myself more inclined to commend skilled DPS when I recognize them since I assume that most players take this attitude of there being "almost no reason to give it to a DPS."

Sure, if the healer or tank went above and beyond, I'll give it, but I notice things like the BRD who is always timely with their songs, the BLM who manawalls/wards attacks like a boss and doesn't miss a beat, or the MNK who maintains their GL while handling mechanics.

There's a common misconception that Heals and Tanks are harder to play than DPS.
I totally don't agree with that, if you're playing DPS seriously and pushing yourself all the time I'd say it's more demanding than the healing or tanking job.

Giving it to a Tank because he held aggro, or a Healer because he healed is meh, that's the basics and not a sign of skill or effort.

I also like giving it to new players that did well and not die or herp on their first run, instead of throwing it to the tank.

I'd rather give it than not give it at all. It's a question of "who and why?" not "should I at all?" Since I play healer most of the time, it goes to the Tank unless they overpulled, everyone died, and then they insult the party/me.

The Tank is doing more than just holding aggro, they're having the mobs back to the DPS. The DPS players just have to keep pressing their rotations, nothing hard about that. The Healer is the one that ensures the Tank stays alive hence, the Tank rewarding the healer, and the healer rewarding the Tank.

As I said, I give it out unless the party was a suffering mess, which means everyone has to be awful for it not to be given. I'd hate to give a DPS a reward for just being carried, which is why during 8-man parties, the other healer has a possibility of getting it. But if the healer just throws nothing but heal bombs and/or switches to Cleric Stance, and doesn't heal at all after that, then someone else is better.

Mainstream Scenario is the most random when it comes these. The run can go perfectly, and get no reward, or the run can be super-rough and 5+ are awarded. There is no obvious rules that everyone uses to award it, and they don't really matter to people who already have 3000 of them (which probably everyone who has been playing since it was introduced in 2.1) so it's far more likely that people aren't rewarding it at all.

Again, I'd rather just award it, not awarding it is just being jerk to everyone on the run, and is only justified when the run was super-awful.

If the following is true:

- There is almost no reason to give it to a DPS, unless they're the one who actually knows the fight (A friend got 3 on a Dragoon in Stone Vigil)

... then I wouldn't expect the following to also be the case, pretty much all players should all have 3000 of them by now

- they don't really matter to people who already have 3000 of them (which probably everyone who has been playing since it was introduced in 2.1

I only have somewhere between 1000 and 1100, and I earned the vast majority on DPS roles. I pretty much always commend someone, and I don't have the expectation that I'm always going to receive one though there have been occasional times I wish I could take one back. I wish I could bank up to 3 of them so when I do Trial Roulette where no one thinks it's worth the trouble, I could save mine and then have an extra to give someone on the next dungeon run I do.

There are two points that I think encourages people to award:
- Knowing the fight better than they do (eg you're more likely to get 3 from a group of newbies if you quickly describe what to do in the fight before you get to it.)
- Taking ownership of any failure instead of placing blame. Like if it seems like you are unable to heal enough, perhaps your regular strategy doesn't apply here.

The worst "Healing Horror stories" always involve cases where I would likely not award anyone. Because in these cases I wouldn't want to award bad behavior.

If people playing since 2.1 aren't giving them out, they're being lazy (or snobby.) If they don't need them they can just pipe up before the final battle and go "I don't need the commendations" (and people do this once in a while) and I certainly would award it to the next person who I think deserves it.

Well, this thread is about healing horror stories so we better jump back on it.

So my friends and I were aiming to get the weekly challenge bonus of do 5 duns, and we somehow arrenged 4 people.
My Healer friend was leveling her BRD so she was going DPS. That was okay with me since I was aiming to help her anyway, so I was prepared with my already maxed out WAR.

Then our FC friend comments she wants to level her MRD. So she got the Tanking role. Okay, I have many DPS classes, albeit most maxed out, so I could just play one, heck, maybe summon a pikachu, we were just doing Toto-rak anyway.

But then a 4th FC wild member appears!!
And what is he? ARCANIST!! orz!!!

In other words, I had~ to be the healer... (well I could have been a jerk and just roll DPS with heals but no).


So the healing horror story... is having me as a healer! I dont heal, I just want to have them maxed out for the sake of completion D:!!
Anyway. No deaths but I didnt use CS in the whole run. Whenever I felt I had a chance to DPS I would walk to the enemies and poke stick them for 14~15 damage with an occasional 20 crit!!

On topic, I was doing World of Saltiness a few days ago. First trash pull and the Alliance chat is full of people freaking out at each other and getting angry. This one tank proclaims that he is going to MT and tells everyone to "stfu". So he runs into the first boss and pulls. He loses hate to every single DPS, none of the other tanks bother to pick it up, and everyone dies. After we all come back to the gate, we see that this guy is using an i50 weapon.

He goes to pull again, thankfully another tank takes it off of him and keeps it. After the boss dies and the loot drops he says, "Lol, okay, you f*cking nerds can kick me now. I didn't get the loot I wanted."

Ugh. Some people.

Hate people like that. Instead of leaving and taking the 30 minutes now a lot of people go out their way to get kicked or pretend to DC to be kicked. With the amount of drama some of them cause they might as well have just left because they annoy people in chat for 30 minutes before everyone is sick of them. Need more to be reported so the GM's know their game. Need bigger punishments on people demanding to be kicked and being abusive when that doesn't happen. 10 minutes in a GM jail and a telling off isn't going to stop them they just find it amusing and brag about it to their friends.

I did a low-level roulette the other day working on my ninja and the first tank we had decided he wanted to pull everthing in qarn at once. We wiped and when we all revived at the start he had apparently been disconnected. The next tank we got was friendly and easy to work with. I felt bad for the healer though because it looked like the tank didn't have a handle on some of his cooldowns and seemed to get hit hard a lot. I actually had to tank a mob for a short time when he dropped midfight. Still a fun run after that first tank was gone.

I'm running a Dzemael HM from DF. NIN/WAR/BRD and me and WHM. We aren't overgeared and the WAR doe big pulls so outside of needing constant heals I can pull out a Holy to make things easier or a few Stone II. What I didn't realize is that they wanted a heal slave. My mp is visibly low as for whatever reason the Nin AND the BRD are taking dmg (never seen a melee BRD before then) and I popped SoS early before first boss. BRD isn't playing any songs. Ask after the 2nd big pull if BRD can play manasong. I drop dps since it was clear that no one was waiting. BRD refuses to play any song (heck could have played Swiftsong to make rushing faster). WAR pulls boss with me at 700 mp or so NIN starts kills the adds and makes the party eat a chunk of dmg. I'm full heal slave at this point when NIN goes down. I try to rez him.... out of mana. Party wipe.


I again told them that I was OoM and the dps was like "stop dpsing". I asked them if they wanted me to be heal slave and they all said yes. WAR doesn't say anything. Instead of argue, I played the style that people are expecting. The rest of the dungeon goes as planned. Everyone silently doing their job. NIN insults me at the end of the DF. I say nothing.

Not all DFs are like this and I know my job is to heal as a healer role. But good lord if the difference between getting heals plus some dps is a single button press that you don't have to micromanage (manasong or.....any song) why would you refuse to do so? I wasn't rude when asking. I was just shocked at how cold some people are. It's one reason why I stop talking in duties. People are so focused on themselves and are social able to anyone outside their immediate circle of influence.

That said, I just assume (as always) the heal slave role. The argument goes "If you want to dps, play a dps class." I think a better argument goes, "If dps plays their roles better, i.e. stop eating unnecessary damage, any healer can do their role better and contribute to dps to make things go faster.

Yep, that's just the reality sometimes. In 30s and 40s dungeons especially, the ability of your dps players and mitigation/pacing of your tank can have a significant impact on the amount of damage you are able to deal. You did the right thing in this situation by just switching to healing, although I wouldn't have liked those guys either if they were anything like you describe.

Props for not losing it when that thankless ninja insulted you afterward.

As far as the bard goes, I usually commend those who actually sing unless someone else in the group does something incredible. So many bards believe that their music doesn't matter when it can make a huge difference in a run.

Finally, the tank sounds like my least favorite type, the one who goes in regardless of the fact that waiting can sometimes be beneficial. This is not only for the healer's mana, but sometimes to make sure someone isn't locked out because they are watching a cutscene. I see this the most in Battle in the Big Keep, where a tank will rush into the second part and lock out 1 or even 2 or 3 people. That doesn't save time. It just extends the fight and annoys everyone else.

Doing WOD today, and the bard kept dying to simple mind mechanic. It being a bard, i asked him, why couldn't he dodge better, being the easier DPS class to play. The person replied "I'm lazy, so do your job and heal me". He didn't receive a heal/raise from me since he said that, and kept crying in the party chat about it.

Was doing Expert Roulette today, got Keeper of the Lake. Run is going really good, one of the DPS happened to be a friend of mine on the same server (we were gonna commend each other and stuffs~). We get to the last boss (Middy) and he's about half dead at this point.

And all off a sudden.

BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

By the time I had gotten my damn computer running again and the game launched, they were still in the dungeon, but I wasn't. I was so sad. QwQ

It'd be like commending dps for doing damage while using their defensive buffs, or a bard for playing their songs.

I haven't had much trouble lately. Except I've been tanking a bit and I get annoyed seeing Healers just sit on their hands casting Cure/Physick endlessly.

If somebody isn't willing to try then no point in wasting mana on them. I feel the same about people who die,get a raise and then die again 10-20 seconds later.

Mana song lower dps of the bard, so your dps may not even made up to it. That bard is too stubborn though, he should chose to play the song if your mana that low, even if he may not be agree with you dpsing ^^

On other hand, if you let your mana ever get that low, you were too focus in dpsing probably. Manage your mana better, and stop dps when it's not safe (meaning when you get in a group where ppl eat every single aoe xD )

There is a between difference spamming heals/doing dps when it's not needed and thus going OOM or going OOM because your party consists of statues who can't dodge.

I'm most likely a healer horror story for every healer that meets me.

I'm a new Paladin who recently (2 days ago) hit level 50 for the first time, but when I'm doing Low Level Roulette I take so much damage I wonder if I'm just bad or what's up with that...

Is downscaled gear worse than actual non-scaled level appropriate gear?

Also, why does Paladin AoE threat suck so much? I hard trouble keeping aggro in Braxsomething Longstop and DD, but Aurum Vale which my whole FC described as a "nightmare" went smooth without me losing aggro once.... I don't get it Q_Q

Be it the healer dps "too much" or had to raise plenty of times (we don't only raise our own team, you know), bards who refuse to play their songs for the sake of their "good dps" is just a bad excuse. And being low in mana is not just because of the 2 reasons above. It can be that the healer got hit and died by an unexpected attack, or one that he couldn't avoid.A raised mage is a mage without any mana. Just the same for players using TP. No mana = no cures = Some will die. And nobody hits the enemy when they're on the floor.THAT would be the ultimate "lack of dps". And when we get to choose who we keep alive or not, due to having our mana too low to save everybody, a bard who didn't bother to sing will be the first to hit the floor.

On the other hand, a bard who always keep an eye on our mana, or everyone else's mana and start singing when the time is ripe, or a bard who always precast Requiem when there's a black mage in the party so as to let his mate "burst" his opener, or a bard who is wise enough to know 3/4 minutes is the average time to start singing Peons, THAT guy will get a comm' for sure. Some do that perfectly. They are rare, still.

The trouble you keep losing agro at low level is because you don't have shield oath(2x enmity generation). Usually, if that happens to me, at the start of the pull after
shield lob, i'll flash at least 3 times and then concetrate on the target of the highest DPS. After 2 combos, flash once and repeat.

Especially at BrayFLOX, flashing 3 times at least at the start of pull is crucial to keep the other mobs other than you're targeting to not agro on your healer or AOE DPS.

It helps if you tag the target, so the DPS would know which one to kill (easier agro management for you) but if you're confident, you don't have to.

I think so. For low level gear there is green gear (like the background), pink/purple gear, and white gear (this is usually crafted and also has a HQ version). White being lowest, green being best. I think when you level sync it gives you the same stats as a full normal quality white set of that level.

PLD AoE is actually a lot better than it used to be, I haven't had any issues with low level since they buffed Flash. It helps if you number targets so everyone is attacking the same target, and flashing 3-5 times before moving into your enmity combo on the first target.

VENT: I ran DD today for my 2nd time. The tank army pulls everything, which is fine, but the souls do not go after him and despite not healing and being the farthest back, mobs deliberately seek me out. The tank doesn't even pull anything off me and I die 4 times on the way to boss. Another time, DPS were thrown off a cliff and we all wiped because I had 3 mobs on me for literally no reason. Everyone laughs because it was clearly their fault. We get to the boss and at this point I'm not even taking the run seriously. We wipe 3 times because I'm past the point of caring and DPS can't seem to avoid getting one-shotted. DPS then flip out on ME saying I'M the one who doesn't know how to play my role.

If WHM is always 1st to die and everyone wipes it's the tank's fault. Granted the boss could have gone more smoothly if I wasn't past the point of caring, but don't make a ton of mistakes and then flip out on the new person who at least has an excuse.

DD runs have a high mortality rate when the tank is inattentive or unskilled. The mix of ranged mobs with large-AoE melee mobs combined with the terrain makes it easy for any party member to murder the group, actually.

When playing WHM, sometimes I get SCH who just DPS 90% of the time then blame me when the healing doesn't cut it. Now, I get that you CAN solo heal coils, and yes in your static you DPS 90% of the time and your WHM can keep up with it. But that doesn't mean you go into a pug group and assume everyone can follow your pace. The first rule of SCH DPS is that you do NOT DPS until your group is comfortable with all mechanics and strategies. This cannot be casually assumed in PF/DF, and especially without even telling the WHM that you are going to mainly DPS. When I go into a pug I assume the pug strategy of each healer focusing on one tank. Yes, I get it, I'm not as good as your WHM with my Diamond Cane and ragtag gear, and I admit that. But instead of adjusting to the group, you refuse to tone down your DPS and heal more, then ragequit after blaming everyone. What are you trying to achieve? Do you not want your gear?

Pretty much as Cynfael said.

I've fallen to those same damn floaty globes plenty of times because they're not picked off. Granted, it's hard to see who a ranged mob is firing at, but when your healer is losing HP quickly, I'd hope a DPS or Tank would notice and start looking around. Rarely does that happen - and I'm forced to spam heals between myself and tank, with majority of the heals interrupted. Now, every time I see them, I sleep them. After so many runs, I hold a special kind of hate for those floaties.
I'm also suspicious that they're healer targeting mob...
