Does instant transportation effect game immersion?

I have picked all points in different times throughout the conversation. I stand behind them all. I firmly believe Immersion is harmed, balance is harmed, and it is dumbing down the game when you're a click of a button away from a city.

Why is it not dumbing it down? Coz you said so? You don't think it sounds dumb to click a button and instantly reach another city?

That's a thought for you to ponder about. But hey.. i'm not gonna dictate your feelings regarding this. To me Final Fantasy is about an immersive realistic experience in a vast world, whereever it may be, and that includes Airships and boat rides.

then its safe to say thats your opinon. But it is not fact. If thats your opinion then thats fine. However there is no proof that going from one city to another in a insta airship is duming down of the game because there is no difficulty in waiting on a ship vs insta ship. you can stand by it and thats fine but it does not make sense to me and many others.

Dumbing down means the system before it was more complex. In this case or insta ship vs 5 min ship is waiting more complex to you?

cities don't have battles or mobs in them, neither do the roads to them really even the first time u run to them ..if u even did. witch would be very funny that half of the players complaining bout boats took tele's from friends. but either way the one quick ride to city can't hurt nothing cause then from there u gotta waist your anima still or run to where your going. or chocobo or use any of the other vast transports they plan on adding to the game.

I think SE would have a hard time dumbing down the anima-teleport system any more than it already is. Anyone, including a brain-dead vegetable, can instantly teleport to anyone of the fifty gazillion aetheryte camps, from anywhere in the world, at any time, just by opening a menu. If that's not already dumbed down enough, I don't know what is.

Yes, having to wait 5 minutes for an airship is more complex. You must ask yourself, which is more valuable, five minutes of your time, 30k of gil for a teletaxi, or 3 anima? It's called a trade-off, or otherwise known as "something which requires thought". Novel idea, this thinking while playing a game thing.

have u guys seen some of the higher level crystals? there is agro everywhere ..getting to them once i'd say is good enough. also on top of that what ever type of content we get around those zones will still involve us trying to avoid or kill mobs to our destinations.

Why the hell not I say? The crystals should work like craigs where you need to atune to them before you can warp to them. Obviously with limited anima as well.

I don't see why this isn't an acceptable trade off for both parties.

Now, i will turn that question back to you.

Is an instanced, insta-port transportation through a click of a button dumbing down what would have otherwise been a flight schedule that you have to tend to and consider every once in a while and time with your own schedule and an Airship ride you have to hop onto and experience?

It is dumbing it down because it removes from it the very nature that it's supposed to reflect, it's more of a teleport than an airship ride now. Is that true or not?

well depends on the person and the situation. such as for many 5mins will be the least valuable of the 3. you can't regenerate 3 anima within 5 mins, nor can most make 30k gil in 5mins. but everyone has 5 minutes of time (if you don't you shouldn't be on the game.)

really the entire argument is 100% opinion based it will very from person to person. which people are going to have to meet in the middle or be SOL. SE's meeting in the middle by adding both. Honestly its all they can really do to make both sides somewhat happy. anything else will anger one side or the other.

Very true. I just wish SE would call it what it is. The insta-ship is not an airship ride, it is a teleport. There is nothing wrong with that, just call it what it is and price it appropriately, for the speed and convenience it provides. Save the airship ride for an actual ride which should be dirt cheap to make up for the few minutes it takes. It comes down to an issue of balance, for me.

That being said, I understand the devs eagerness to implement airships, and a convenient way to travel from city to city without using anima. I think this is a good move, I just hope they tweak it in the future, when zones are redesigned, airship instances are added, etc. and so forth.
