AST is just pure depression in DF.
I practiced AST a bit in normal raids and used my magical abacus to spot my most common mistakes I need to work on before giving it a spin in Savage, so I had a bit of a feeling for dps in general. And during most of the runs it was a dps gain to reroll a melee card to ranged and slap it on my co-healer - during burst. I think I only had 1 or 2 runs where we I didn't have only a single dps being above both tanks and healers, the rest of the runs it was one dps > my co-healer/ one of the tanks >>>> rest. By a mile.
Only one first timer the whole evning too.
Time to macro my cards so they all go on my co-healer or one of the tanks.
That's how a DNC must feel when they partner someone and their partner somehow manages to die before/ during every single Tech. Then you switch partner and the new target suddenly has the urge to go horizintal as well.

Some healers seem to think a swift cast ress is just another way to do more damage. Third time that happened in a dungeon I let him die before taking it. I can see your cast bar I know you’re spamming glare.

This healer, and again not naming names, thought that they were casting Medica 2, as that had always been bound to the 2 key.
However, due to an ability bar that hasn't been locked, this had somehow swapped with Asylum, and this healer was not aware.
So, this healer was in a dungeon that they had never done before, but always checks the mechanics beforehand but you can't really remember everything as many of these guides are lazily written. Some mechanics you just have to experience.
The healer hits the 2 button, and suddenly an orange ring appears around them. So they start running and running, thinking they are going to get hit by an AOE. The AOE never comes, but the orange ring doesn't disappear.
It is only when the healer realises that the other 3 in the group are dead that they messed up.
Alas, everybody had a good chuckle about it (or so I am told). The rest of the dungeon went off without a hitch, and the healer got 3 commendations. -

Had an interesting trial today. Tank A decides to take aggro from Tank B. Tank A does not provoke to retake aggro, tank B does not mitigate. Tank B gets slapped and dies. Meanwhile my co-healer is dead and I'm busy topping off other party members while trying to heal said tank who is also not mitigating while also raising the other tank. With tank B we slowly wipe as a double flare comes out and yeah... not fun.
Healers get blamed fully and to make matters worse it's my first time on said fight so when we restart, I slipped up on a mechanic later in the fight, which probably justified the blame.
Edit: I seriously feel like people kick me when I'm down. Haven't been performing my best but it's like whenever I'm not someone always manages to find a way to make it worse. Had a rough Aglaia, just really awful from me but to make matters worse one of the tanks decided to share their tank buster with me during one of the triple tank busters. They had so much space and for some reason they clung to me. I kept running and I couldn't shake them, and I honestly think it was on purpose... -

Just had a sephirot run where on the 2nd attempt, we were doing great, until my co-tank ate it a bit before the 2nd add phase. With a SMN and RDM in the group, there was no one rezzing them for too long a time. Adds wrecked us and seph swiped left. :p

Going back to topic... I've ran Variant Dungeon several times since its inception. Across my attempt to get all 12 notes (I did not actively try to do it, I just let the party decide where to go), I've had 3 memorable runs:- Party 1 = MNK and GNB had a brief argument which ending they want to get on middle path. Guess it's normal to see this sort of exchange in this kind of dungeon. This is also when I first learned the dungeon has notes we can work on.
- Party 2 = A NIN got salty over a first timer accidentally stepping onto the fluffy plants on left path and proceed to get passive aggressive. But thankfully the other guy steps in. Not cool NIN, not cool at all.
- Party 3 = The most memorable of 3. Two exclusive specimens crosses path and thus creating a smashing spectacle. 'Lower than AST's dps'-SAM & 'Zero dmg'-WHM spewing vitriols at each other. Apparently enjoyed my popcorn too much that I forgot to screenshot their exchanges before the server decided to erase the evidence and DDoS happened D: Here's the gist of it (I am the AST), it happened right after we down'ed the hecaton boss:
SAM:"AST, can just switch to dps."
AST:"Huh why?"
SAM:"Don't need 2 healer. WHM is not playing the game."
WHM:"??? Bro chill this is not savage."
SAM:"not even dot was cast."
MCH:"I just want my potsherds..."

The kitten got squits, all across the floor and proceeded to run off leaving a trail behind him. Thank god its a hard floor and not carpet. So, yeah, that happened today. Kitten seems fine, vets if it doesnt clear up in the morning. -

OK I had a fun one last night.
I was in a healing mood and so I picked up my WHM and queued Alliance. For once it was not CT but Dun Scaith and I was thrilled. So from the start I noticed it was going to be a doozy because people kept getting insta-killed (Understandable since this one doesn't pop often and for newbies...this is the raid that takes the kiddie gloves off) So I do about 5 Raises on this one. We get to the Jester boss and that's when I noticed it was going to get really crazy. I also noticed the co-healer kept dying (might have been a newbie) so I kept picking them up but I also noticed that if multiple people were down that they weren't going to help with that. So at that point I pretty much figured I was dedicated Raiser.
Jester goes off easily enough with I think only 3 Raises. We get to the 3rd boss and now...It's getting spicy. I'm having half my group down, half of another alliance down with both healers down, etc...I Swiftcast the other alliance healer up and then focus my own alliance with hardcasts. We eventually wipe due to no one focused the add and it murders us hard. Luckily no one on any alliance is getting butthurt over the wipe and one guy just says "Hey focus adds even if the main boss is at 1HP...kill that add first.". After we start...less deaths so it goes WAY smoother...
Now...Final Boss. 1st half goes by with not a lot of issues. We do the DBZ beam clash thingy with no issues. After that though it gets crazy. I feel like literally half of every alliance gets put down hard. Ok. Time to get busy. I swiftcast my cohealer, I hard raise 2 DPS, and now healer is dead again even though I Benediction healers the moment they are up. Ok Hard raise you again...hard raise another, OK everyone I raised is dead again. I just used two AoE heals when you got moving but OK...I can get this going. I AM SUPER MOTIVATED to get EVERYONE up and going now.
I think for a solid 3 minutes straight I did nothing but heal those I just raised and raise another. I swear if it wasn't for Assize, Thin Air, Medica 2, Lucid Dreaming, and SwiftCast...I think we would have wiped on Final Boss. I mean I was even picking up other alliances just to ease things if I had the resources available. -

A newbie tank asked me if i was AOEing as a Dragoon, they thought i was single targeting with the usual Doom Spike -> Sonic Thrust -> Coerthan Torment combo. Asked them if they ever played a dragoon before, they had not. really weird thing to complain about.
Understandable though, some dps refuse to aoe in big pulls, something noticed while tanking, mobs take longer to kill and could wipe the tank if they don't have CD's for protection. -

Dear random tanks in DF:
Please, you have a plethora of cooldowns to use in large pulls. It keeps you from dying and it keeps the healers like me from running out of resources for a pull. They're there to keep you alive so we can finish the dungeon.
Especially the GNB I just had. You have cooldowns for DAYS. If I run out of resources and am forced to spam shields and the mobs are still alive while you're about to eat floor, the problem does not point itself at me. It points itself at you for not using the tools you were given.
'Heal more' is not a valid excuse when I've been watching your buff bar like a hawk and never saw a single Rampart.

You only have one Essential Dignity charge in Holminster, and Synastry is specifically for healing two people with Benefic II on a long cooldown. We all know how much everyone loathes having to use Cure II at this high a level, yet AST doesn't really have a choice in the matter. That's probably why it's the same potency yet cheaper. The real strategy here, though, is Lightspeed+Repose.Quote:
