Finally, someone who actually wants to discuss.
I disagree that this is a flaw in my argument since I know numerous Legacy players who had trouble even making gil in v1. Legacy servers are not swimming in gil, and you can safely assume that item costs in our MW are accordingly higher simply because we have more to spend. The problem would still exist, only scaled up.
And did you ask them what they spent all their gil on? Or how wisely they spent it? Saying players are broke doesn't really prove anything by itself; like I said, I knew people who were broke in v1 when there were copious ways to make gil quickly and easily.
You say "there is no way" but what I think you mean is "I have not found a way."
Is it or is it not your choice to spend an hour wiping to hard mode encounters rather than making money to save up to pay repair costs?
Who guaranteed you'd make money (or break even) solely by running dungeons? Is it not logical that it would cost gil to do certain things in the game?
So you're saying the costs to do the fun/advancement stuff in the game should be covered by doing said stuff, and that you shouldn't need to do anything else to make money. Got it. Yeah I can't imagine you'll be here long either.
Save up how, exactly? Oh, by not playing except to run my leves every 12 hours? And then what, if I do that for a week I can then try to progress my character for an hour or two today?
I have to assume this is some fabricated internet personality and you don't honestly believe this game has a future with that play style.
If quests and leves were the only ways to make money in the game, I'd agree with you. And no, I'm not talking about MW here. The fact that rewards "drop off significantly" beyond these only indicates that they are freebies, and to find another way to make money may take some thinking, time and effort. Your real-life example would apply here since, once you found a way, the more you did it the more money you would make. You're dismissing any other potential way to make money because it's not as easy as the gil you get handed a week from leves.
I also disagree that this would be a problem only for hardcores; I would imagine casuals tend to buy more AH gear because they don't have the time to gather/craft it themselves.
