Not being able to buy single items from a stack on the marketward.

If the seller had the choice to determine whether he wanted smaller amounts to be purchased from his stack there is no issue. It only allows more items on the ah, it will probably lower prices a bit since there will be more on the ah but that is it. I would love to be able to put up 100 ore and say allow multiples of 5. I would price it as I would price a single stack of 5 and a lot of people win.

Wulfies, I have 40 retainer slots. This is near accurate what are currently in them-

Note that all gear will be HQ unless noted, I rarely sell RQs accept for militia SB farming.

Goblin Scim x 7 (5,555-9,999) [Goblin stuff, believe it or not, has made me a solid 40-50% of my money. They sell almost completely out over night, yet DO NOT do so if I set greedy prices considering im the only one doing them daily. Be fair and become profitable]

I usually use DST nugs to fill in the rest of my slots when I go to bed. So each day for at least the passed 3 weeks, I log on to an average of 350k, and 10-25 empty retainer slots, of which I either craft more stuff, or sell varying stacks of stuff with. How are you not doing this? Are all 40 of your slots full for days on end?? You're doing it wrong then and I promise you the system isnt broken because you are constantly full on retainer space. The market is designed to let people specialize in specific markets, 40 slots is MORE then enough to do that properly.

Even so, ill offer a tip I used early on crafting, found a friend who doesnt use ANY of his 40 slots (I know him IRL, that helps the trust). I mailed him the items and gave a price to list and each day the amount to lower it by until it reaches its value. Then just sell it to the vendor. Keep 20%.

He made 250k roughly in the 3-4 days we did this. I stopped because I decided LOWER end ITEMS and LOTS of them, were no longer worth my time or skill level.

I want more retainers for those times I bump out 50+ items, but I dont really think we should get them. It would hurt more then help.



That is why it is so important we do not ruin all those player's jobs in this game. If each one of those people took 5 minutes to aquire the items needed, then it would be healthy if they all got about 500gil for their time.

Buying ONE item off of a stack will forever destroy most of those "busy bees" who just made that item possible. Only the ONE guy, who uses his keyboard to macro it, will sell it and TONS of it at 199 per. Now not a single person will want to go out and farm ever, it just wont be worth the time. New players will never sell their random goods, get a feel for the market/economy, until they start farming Tomes for crafters.

I implore you to think about this and realize how important it is this silly mechanic NEVER gets put in. If you cant think logically, graciously bow out to those who can.



He would only need 3 slots, cause he would just sell them as stacks. The guy above did the same thing... Some weird argument of "How do I sell everything individually!?!?".

YOU DO NOT, that is how. Thats not how the game was designed. Or if you do, which is a very valid approach and MANY MANY smart market players do so, you can do 40 at a time.

Manage your time, manage your retainers, manage your costs, and swim in your profits.

The idea posed in this thread has been thoroughly declined by the forum player base, even if it wasnt just a post and something that would get dev attention (it isnt), it still will NEVER see the light of day.

"BECAUSE I WANT IT", isnt good enough to even discuss why it should be elevated beyond a tedious conversation.

Well I sell in different batches for a reason, single piece for those that just need one. Batches for those looking for their own crafting and other needs.

Example:

• I sell 1 item a piece for 2000 gil each
  
• But I also sell 5 piece stack for 1900 gil each - 5% discount
• But I also sell 10 piece stack for 1800 gil each - 10% discount
• And right now if you buy the 20 piece stack from me you get it at 1500 gil each - 25% discount!!

This is a fair system, so this system is good and should be kept this way.



However, I do understand there are lazy sellers out there lol. It would be nice if there was a check box options for those lazy and just selling the entire batch where it places a mark in front of the item on the market board, which shows the players they can buy in quanities from the amount available from that specific person. This should resolve the issue on both sides. But I'm also guessing once they do something like this the lazy person wouldn't think about placing the item up for the single item price, at same time few players are next going to complain they should get some type of discount if they buy in batches... lol.

No need to change. If there's a demand for 12 eggs at a time, wallmart type players like me will buy up your lot, break bulk and then retail it a dozen a time to other players at a markup.

You think Walmart would dedicate a whole store to selling 40 cartons of 12 eggs for 2.49 each?

I'm surprised so many people like the market being difficult to use. An annoying market makes some players wealthy but reduces market volume. People don't buy as many goods because they can't get the right quantity. They don't sell as many things either. The market is an obstacle keeping volume artificially low.

EVE is an example of a long term and successful commodities market. They have buy orders, sell orders, margins, and people can buy and sell partial stacks. People can price their items lower to move faster, sell things in high volume or low volume regional markets, and time when they sell things (weekdays vs weekends, morning vs evening) to make more profit from the same goods.

Instead of making the market difficult to use, it's easy to use. Smart traders still make a ton of money, and everyone can buy and sell goods in the quantity they want without hassle.

FFXIV's market could be upgraded with partial stacks, and the economy would work better.

The most annoying part is the "default prices" it places on items, which seem to bottom out at NPC sell prices. This is the main cause for concern.
Other than that, the market works how a market should work. You can buy 1 from one vendor at a set price, or you can buy 12 from another vendor at another price. The vendor supplies the goods the way they feel will sell, and the buyer buys in a fashion that works for them. If an item does not sell how they hoped, the seller will change how it sells.
So 12 eggs. That's how 'I' want to sell it. If it does't sell, then I'll probably repackage it as 2 packs of 6. That's if a buyer doesn't buy it, and resell the 6 or so they don't need themselves.

Every retailer only has so much sale space. In this case, your retainer. Realistically, you are asking them to hold alot of product and keep them organized. So I can understand there being limits. I good retailor/seller knows when is a good time to sell, and when isn't. They don't list everything at once, because then you fight with the market for pricing. Rather, you spread out your sales. Honestly, I see no issue with the system in place, just because you can't do "unlimited single-stack items".

The real problem is that supply-side has millions and millions of units of stuff to sell (in an MMO supply-side will always be over-matched than demand side). By forcing a 40 slot limit and only allowing only stacks, suppliers are feeling the pinch of running out of space.

Please read my post regarding Buy-Side AH. That would help alleviate this problem, by allowing suppliers to sell to people directly. Yes, there are counters, but I have addressed them in my post.

The current market system rewards players that put a little effort into selling their items and provides opportunities for sellers that don't have millions of gil and thousands of items to sell. Both the lazy, rich players putting up large stacks and the more dedicated players more frequently putting up smaller stacks or players who only have a few items to sell have the ability to make income on the market.

Now the lazy players want their stacks to work like big and small stacks so they can completely dominate the market. It is much easier to lower the price on a few giant stacks than it is to adjust lots of small stacks. Those willing to put in the time and effort to put up small stacks and adjust them should get the reward.

It's the exact same logic that's used throughout all game aspects. Players not willing to do dungeons can't get the gear from them, players who don't level multiple classes can't use abilities from those other skill lines - why should players who don't want to put any effort into the marketplace get maximum rewards?

The existing marketplace functionality has the additional benefit of helping to avoid undercutting wars crashing prices. Small stacks can be priced higher than large stacks(which is obviously one of the things the complainers in this thread are butthurt about) helping to make prices less volatile. If large stacks also act as small stacks then everyone will price their stacks lower and lower breaking the marketplace.

Square Enix don't coddle the lazy and greedy players - please leave the market as it is.

I do not think it is "Lazy" people as you say. Some of us can not spend or do not have hours to watch minute market fluctuations and adjust accordingly.
