Oh, thank gods this thread exists. I'm so disappointed in the current status of blue mage. It just feels so restrictive and whittled down! I really want Square to make it a full job, soon.

Alternatively let it be busted overpowered as they said it would. Theres no reason I shouldnt be able to get Teraflare walk into a dungeon 3 expansions behind where live is at and 1 shot entire hallways of mobs. This can already be done easily unsyncd its not like its actually breaking some core function of the game.
I mean, if they were going to make it an actual job, then they'd obviously change and develop if for that purpose and not leave it as is.
Unfortunately, what you described also shows why making Blue Mage into an overpowered limited job is irrelevant when the same effect could be achieved by simply allowing a level 80 Blue Mage to enter old content unsynced. The outcome is the same in either scenario, except one option is limited and the other is not.
I mean I imagine blue mage level 70 doing level 70 extreme primals and raids solo with maybe minor challenge, or duo with basically none. Blue Mage could enter Eureka solo, Deep Dungeons, old treasure chests, etc. The "I can do that solo" job, coming with unique skills like molting one's skin to leave the target marker on your molt and you run away free from target (allowing you to avoid certain 1hit ko mechanics and other unique spells of course). Meanwhile a level 80 synced down couldn't do that (at least couldn't do it for all of them).
Just suggesting there is technically "some room" for more power beyond just syncing down. Ideally that overpower coming from combos and kits rather than just one spell though XD.
Of course I'm not opposed to a real boi job either lol. That be quite cool :D. I'd love to be able to actually play it normally too and would prefer advanced job concept or something else like that. But if it MUST be this non-DF way then I do want it to be even more overpowered than it is and I could imagine using it for that sometimes.
Not a single hint for anything coming in 5.1 for the live letter. Time to "wait and see" even more.
Congratulations! Blue Mage just learned a new action: "Wait and See" it does nothing~! In our next stream we will have a chance to learn either "Please look forward to it!" or be allowed to enter the housing area to combat a placard for "Infinite Salt" which combines with "Blue Tears" to do increased damage after each patch.
:D . . . just playing of course lol
On a more serious note though I'm not surprised there was no word of Blue Mage, since they said changes will be coming for Blue Mage in 5.1. It would make sense then they discuss 5.1 content with 5.1 info dumps.
Maybe too hopeful but I am wishing / look forward to seeing the new spells and some new mechanic they mentioned, which could be a big deal or just like one new spell that has a combo like ram/dragon voice, as this might be a sign they're taking in feedback of how the job plays and it's power.
So most likely unless there is enough info, and confident enough that the info will be "exciting info" and not just raise more questions and hub bub.. I imagine there is literally nothing we can do but use our "Wait and See" skill.
It would be nice if and when they address Blue Mage if they could talk about it a bit more though, it's been in the dark for a while, like their plan and if they've had any changes in their intentions with limited jobs and specifically blue mage's intended goals / desires for the job.
Hopefully they don't treat Blue Mage as just a bullet point in a long patch note. That'd be unfortunate.
interested to see if people will be upset if they just do nothing except maybe raise the cap where it will still be pretty useless until they somehow make it a real job.
If I had to guess, I suspect the Blue Mage update won't arrive with patch 5.1, but rather, a subsequent patch, such as 5.15.
My expectations are set very, very low. The most I've heard is that they may be working on group content for Blue Mage which will most likely be Masked Carnival, Part II: Group Edition. If they loosen up on the limited restrictions, they might let Blue Mage party with Squadron NPCs, but I wouldn't expect more than that, if we even get that much. One or two more glamour weapons. Maybe new artifact armor, but I won't even get my hopes up for that.
Picked up Blue Mage again today. I was being beaten in dps by a white mage. Yup it sucks harder now. It's sad to see my favorite job in the series be this.
Well blu is useful at least, for a jump puzzle. Most I've seen blu used in the last year.
Bumping back up
Question - since BLU will have its own content in the near future, wouldn't that mean they're set on leaving it as a limited job that will never be on par with the rest? Cuz like...that sounds like a waste of resources to me, I think people would be happier if it became a standard job instead.
Of course it will stay like this. They not even once said anything about changing it later, it will receive update to access HW content and maybe SB close to ShB end. But never it will be on par with other jobs. Even if he ever get to lv 80 during ShB, wich is nothing but a fleeting dream for naive people it will never fonction as a proper job and be able to access current content.
Calling this limited trash a waste is being light on words.
Yes. I was with a sprout slightly lower leveled than I, and I don't have the primal skills.
Yeah without the primal skills youre limited to spamming your 130 potency aoes, which will be the same as what healers have if not less with how broken the scaling is, if youre helping people in dungeons with BLU you're better off just self destruct comboing every mob pack and respawning and doing it again.
It was always really disappointing that the majority of the skills are all 130 pot reskins.
The date for the live letter has been announced, so here's hoping this "unique and challenging" content is talked about and not just the Nier raid for 5.1. I don't know what they could do to make me not want BLU as a real job though.
I am not a fan of limited jobs, at all. Just make it viable for normal play and add the minigame option with all skills or whatever separatly for the job, like the music instruments for bard.
I think "limited" anything is bad. Limited shouldn't even be a word we are using to describe a job. While I prefer Black Mage for my mage character, I would have liked a job that used monster abilities that could still go through the story and do dungeons with. Instead of releasing limited jobs, I would rather wait for them to devote more time and release full jobs instead.
I wish this thread would get as much likes and support as the male viera thread. This is a serious issue, they released a useless job.
There can be support for both. We just need to stay diligent and not get fussy.

Anyone remember this?
It was their plan all along I'm supposin'! Jest aside.
They need to fix BLU ASAP. It IS possible for them to make them join our DPS ranks.
They do not have to make it 100% like it is on the other games, they can make their very on iteration of it.
I also suggest them to never do this again. Please don't disappoint people with half-baked jobs like this.
I'm sure most people would rather of not had this job at all, than how it is now.
I don't like BLU in any FF games, personally, but I really feel bad about how this was played out
for those who actually really adore the BLU's in the series, it's a big slap in the face. :c
There's very little they can do to elicit any sort of interest for the job out of me. I realize that it had a unique playstyle in XI but good gods, would I have sacrificed some of that for the ability to play current content with other people in some semblance of a compromise. I wonder if the dev team will feel a twinge of regret when the new BLU content isn't as successful as they expected... assuming, of course, that such content doesn't hit whatever threshold numbers they use to deem it a success.
I've said this before, somewhere else, maybe in this thread, but... the whole concept of "limited jobs" will taint job reveals in future expansions, at least for me. Before the introduction of limited jobs as a potential system going forward, the only thing I was "wary" of was the role a job was going to fall under. I bolded the quotation marks because I have preferences as to which role I'd like to see a specific job under, but that's all they are: preferences. I would've liked to see SAM be a tank, but we got a DPS. Would've been interested in seeing DNC work as a healer somehow, but we got a DPS. In the end, that didn't matter. I played them for the jobs, not the roles. SAM was the first job I took to 70 in SB and took DNC to 80 with ShB (it is what I main now). This is going to change going forward, since job reveals will prompt a different question in my mind. It will go from "huh, I wonder if X job will be a tank/healer/DPS?" to "gosh, I wonder if X job will even be playable in current party content."
Will we ever get BLU as an "unlimited" job? I sure hope so, though I think the rework would be the kind you see in a new expansion, being a complete retooling of the job and all. I feel like they'd sooner drop "limited jobs" as a thing going forward rather than rework BLU to make it party-ready. Would remind me a bit about branching jobs with SMN/SCH and how SE went all "yeahhhhh.... let's not do that again."
Blue Mage is a job that players had been wanting for years, and during the Las Vegas Fanfest in 2018, it was announced by the president of SE, dressed up as a Blue Mage, that they would be adding the job to FFXIV. The next day it was announced that it would be a “Limited Job” to much dismay. BLU was released on January 7th, 2019 and saw a large portion of content starved players dive in and grind out its spells. After that it nosedived just the like person quoted in the OP predicted.
While Shadowbringers development was the obvious priority, as of this writing it has been nearly 9 months without a single update, and it’s likely that there will be no updates for another month or two at least. Was this what they believed players wanted? A job that is basically a Gold Saucer mini-game that gets updated maybe once a year? I don’t think they will ever add another Limited Job because not only would it be difficult to develop separate “Masked Carnivale”-type content for each Limited Job and keep them all updated, but also because of all the negative feedback Blue Mage received from the player base and media sites upon its announcement and release.
BLU needs to be made a regular job instead of wasting more time and resources trying to make Limited Jobs work. They will never work.
While I support Blue Mage becoming a full job that doesn't mean that I can't support the unlocking of Male Viera and more hairstyles for the new races. The issue is that Blue Mage is old news compared to Viera and Hrothgar, since these new races were one the major points of the expansion. They need to make some serious decisions about how to create new jobs because a job that no one wants to touch or bother to level is a bad investment compared to something that benefits everyone, like system or other quality of life upgrades.
All development outside of the story has been really strange recently, they've been constantly missing their mark or falling short and just causing tons of displeasure among the player base to the point where some may argue it might have been better not to implement anything at all because what does release is so disappointing.
I honestly believe they've pulled most FFXIV devs off the team to work on FF7 Remake because they can't allow that to fail and it's sad. Instead of the devs actually working to add what people want, like they did in the past, now it's like: "Well here's what we have the time and resources to make, so how do we spin it so that it seems like we're giving them what they want?"
It's all very disheartening because Shadowbringers was the expansion that truly made FFXIV a WoW-killer (if there is such a thing) and the devteam seems to be lacking the most during this critical time.
Why can't Yoshi P say what we all dream he would: "We're going to make Male Viera and Female Hrothgar!" "We're going to make Blue Mage a regular job!"
Why do we keep getting half-finished things that no one asked for instead of one fully completed thing? I think I know why... because FFXIV is an amusement park, and the more rides there are, the more visitors it will get, regardless of how cruddy those rides are.
LMAO, the "4 Man Blue Mage Content" is a dungeon challenge log. Super Innovative, so glad to be getting more of the same, unless the new spells are somehow nutty so much for wait and see.
Yay! Level cap increased to 60!
I highly doubt that they even noticed that this thread exist... or the English forums.
It's something. Wouldn't surprise me it becomes dead content [again] within a few weeks though.
Ima riot if we don't get Reraise off Lost City (Hard). At least with that we can maybe have some fun with Final Sting/Self Destruct.
Really though, Blue Mage doesn't need much of a spell list expansion, it needs a base rework... I don't really care that it's a limited job, honestly I wouldn't even call it the first limited job (that goes to Fisher, which is essentially a limited gatherer with 90% of the fish being "for fun"), but the job needs to still function like a job... I'd love to see Blue Mage given a basic job gauge and simple rotation outside the spell list we currently have... Even if it's just a 123 combo to build a gauge to cast big spells, that's a significant improvement on the jobs playability compared to what we have currently... Throw in something like XI Blue Mages "Spells have stat boosts attached when you set them, and setting specific combinations of spells grants you various traits and added effects" if we're feeling fancy... If Blue Mage is meant to be "just for fun", then at least make it fun... Just lazily adding some spells and having us set 20 and leaving it at that is... Well... Lazy...
Doing dungeons as four Blue Mages? I remember doing Tam-Tara for Mind Blast with four Blue Mages was a chore and that was when we were unsynced at Level 30.
Agreed. Playability-wise, Blue Mage feels very barebones. Every other job feels like you're building towards something, whether it be accumulating Greased Lightning, Sen, feathers, Astral Fire, etc.
Blue Mage is just "Well, you can equip these spells after you wrestle with RNG. And that's about all we felt like doing with it."
Wow what a train wreck they feel a BLU only duty finder will save the job.
I was at least expecting them to say we can do deep dungeon/use squadron. It's like they have no idea what to do with this job, and they don't care about feedback.
Here is the thing though.
Fisher can do current level content compared to BLU which is limited to lower/outdated content. If BLU could do level 80 content I'm sure the outlash for limited jobs would be much less because at least they could do current dungeons & trials with the only limitation being If the party leader makes the party slots free. Another thing is that in unsync content you get no exp or drops which means it's pointless to help a BLU while leveling a job or obtaining drops at the same time. Instead of making BLU only parties I think SE should have introduced a option to allow those that are queuing for synced content or Don't mind playing with a BLU to enable it to allow the matching with BLUs in the same fashion you can enter content unsync with an option. And raise the level cap of BLU to 80 even if they currently don't have spells for those areas. The spells could have been added later over updates.
