Yep it was Yukata in FFXI also and 2CH and other forums (since official forums didn't exist that time) did talk about same stuff saying it's giving wrong image to foreign players and those aren't Yukata's.... for me... I didn't care... I like it lol

I loved it also. The blue yukatas were really cool and wore them all the time as town gear. I don't know if it is a cultural thing, but even if the name isn't 100% correct, I don't think it should be escalated high enough that Yoshida himself has to calm them down. Just an observation will suffice and if the developers feel the same way, I am sure they would adjust it.
Gal style are cute :) thanks reinheart for the link also! I understand now ^^
Also to be fair, they did have specific styles of chainmail suited for smaller framed women and as they got more efficient designing armor the chainmail became "lighter" in design.
There's always been multiple styles of Yukata, it would be more of a problem if SE stated we'd get traditional Yukata, but they mostly said we'll just get yukatas this time around, the JP probably auto assumed traditional, but SE is trying to keep up with the times xD.
I'm one of the ones who would have preferred longer ones, but you get what you get given. I appreciate we're getting anything at all, what with 2.0 looming so close.
I'll proudly wear my happi-style yukata!
Yeah I personally liked the style XI went with, mostly only hated that compared to other event items, the Yukata was always just 1 piece, not even say a bow accessory for women since I know they can change model parts based on equipment.
(Women gain nail polish for example when you use DNC AF/Relic/Empyrean gear and you lose access to hand/feet slots with auto textured boots/gloves for some other items.)
The short ones look awful on men.
