It's time to have a race where the women are strong and big and the men and small and meek! I'd fantasia to a male viera that looked like that immediately.

I want smol boi bunnies.
If they wanna be lore Accurate.... Make the bunny boys have an omega Body. Slim and lacking of muscles.
To all the people who want buff Bunnymen....They are submissive for a reason if they were ripped then they wouldn’t be second class
Wait, who said they were submissive? Or second class? Just because the ruler of the clan is a matriarch doesn't make them any less 'important' to the society. Keep in mind that females can also become Wood-wardens, not just males. The males just happen to be like 'Jedi/Sith' where they automatically go into the service of it. Kind of like how in some countries men have to serve the in the army - mandatory service.
The males as soon as they hit puberty are trained to be cold-blooded murderers/killers - most of the females are not as they get to decide if they pick up the mantle of a wood warden, lore has it that most of them don't. With that in mind, it's the males that are more than likely the physically stronger of the two - there's just a smaller population of them. And seeing as they're 'outside' of the community it could be hinted that the male wood-wardens who forsake community and clan do not report to the matriarch and instead only respond/submit to the wood. This would explain why they haven't left the wood as of now, constant contact with the wood spirit - not the matriarch.
Also the idea that you want to be a bunny boy because they're submissive and second class to you is rather, errrrrrrrrrmmmmm
Anyway, I like the idea of them being elegant, beautiful, slim and handsome. As long as there is a some sort of muscle/tone slider and the height isn't something that dips to something horrifically small I'll be happy. I'd prefer them to be around the same height as the females however, a tad smaller would also work - even if it means their ears are smaller.
As an add on; if the males were small and 'meek' then it makes no sense that it's the males that are sent out to be the first - and most of the time last line - of defence and not the more abundant female. If anything if the males are extremely rare as well as the 'weaker' gender then it would make sense that they should be the ones in the community being protected by the amazonian females and not vice versa.
I think people mix up something with how a race is being introduced - in this case male Viera being elegant, handsome and slim (while being stealthy assassins inside the jungle) vs. how they would customize their characters to their likings.
Getting a race designed and introduced should be always in a neutral way. Players can design their characters appearance as they please. I dont care if people go dress up as femboy miqote or masculine roedames, players should always have the option to design their character to their likings.
And since we do not have the freedom to choose between different body types, we rely on races to add these. Thats why I dont play bulky races in first place.
edit: grammar, ugh not native engrish - difficult sometimes
Aye, I'm all for neutral - as long as there's a scale I'm happy. But if the race is going to be shoehorned into small and weak looking, then that's something I'm not for. Sounds selfish I know, I should be happy for even getting them in the first place. But ooff, small and weak looking males doesn't scratch that itch for me. Slim, handsome and elegant with the possibility of muscle/tone sliders and height sliders would be perfect for me given that the baseline height or the range is decent enough~
Really getting milage out of that therion huh?
almost at 1500 still bit of a feat with the numbers we already have and its almost been a week since tokyo fanfest
also saw a entirely french version of this thread supporting the unlock of Viera and Hrothgar which is nice to see
id expect Jp would have one too?
Well seeing how even the Viera wont be able to wear head gear from the start, how low quality some of the Ronso faces look (and that is the most important part on that race..), how Viera and Ronso have normal feet and how they seemingly did not have Ronso ready to show at the second fanfest...sounds quite rushed to me.
I'd be really happy if we could get a definite "Yes, we will do this." sort of statement.
I know that the male-hrothgar and female-viera aren't finished yet, but without the other sex for both, they will never be finished!
SE won't be making a new body type so you'll be stuck with any of the pre existant ones if they include male Viera.
I woud go for Au ra or Miqo'te, but with new animations.
i really want to wear every single head gear in the game, at least event/mogstation one!!!!!!!!!!
You know what the funniest thing about that is? If they had shown male Ronso in Paris, and then female Viera in Tokyo, there would still have been an explosion about the genderlocking but not of such epic proportions, I don't think so. Because a lot of it stems from wanting to play Viera. So when the females were confirmed, expectations shifted to male Viera.
Had they shown male Ronso in Paris, there would've been broken expectations regarding female Hroth. But I think that by then, knowing we already had the male slot taken, people would've prefered to hype over playing any sort of Viera and it would've built up the excitement instead of bursting it.
Still genderlocked, still no Viera males or Hroth females, but all things considered, I think showcasing Hroth males first and then female Viera would've given them not as bad a playerbase explosion.
It would imo also make more sense if his answer is correct and they somehow decided on Hroth first and Viera later...I mean wouldnt that mean that they would work on that first? Honestly I am really not sure if some of those answers are just a bit of PR speak to keep the anger down. Because if that was the reason, why not talk about this in the liveletter? Why say that in an interview that might not be read that much?
In the end if this was already meant to happen for quite some time, I find it bad to not just be open about this from the start too..why hint at maybe more Viera news after the second fanfest? Why not outright state that there is no male Viera at that one but hint at something else?
It really feels like they are so out of tune with the community..it should have been crystal clear that such a decision will only lead to even more anger.
I suppose some work already went into Viera models because they needed it for Fran who was already in the game. But strictly speaking about the interviews, I keep getting different impressions depending on what interview I read and it comes off contradictory.
Because then people would've cancelled their preorders when they were still eligible for it, and had less chances to use their pre-order bonus items... is sadly what it starts to look like. They should've outright told us no male Viera, and then created an air of mystery around what was coming in its stead, instead of it being read as them building more hype for male Viera. Because it also made sense that's what they were getting at - male Viera were never shown before, so they wanted to reveal them in Tokyo, maybe even bring Matsuno over, which would've made more sense in Japan instead of anywhere else...Quote:

Instead what we got can be seen as really scammy, and intentionally leading on. People can use the in-game lines like "they might as well not exist to us" all they want, but as has been established repeatedly, that is also the case regarding Keeper of the Moon males and Duskwight Elezen of both genders. You're going to be hard pressed to find them as NPCs in the game, and that makes sense. No one cares how many player characters like that are out there because the only character that matters to the lore is the one you play at that particular moment. So no, nothing that was said in-game was proof we wouldn't be getting male Viera. If anything, the abundance of lore and attention they gave them really implied otherwise!
And when they inevitably remove the locks because I have a hard time believing they won't at this point, question is when - those lines would still remain in the game, equally valid then as they are now, and with the appropriate lack of importance regarding the existence of male Viera as playable.
I guess, "so there could be a multitude of reasons why folks are especially upset." went over your head? I apologize for my poor wording if that's the case!
I'm not so much surprised as I am sighing because imo, some of the responses I've read both here and on twitter have some users coming off as selfishly entitled and rude, without mentioning anything else square as done. And as I said before though, it comes off as a bit much to a user like me who's somewhat still new (so therefor I lack any context to the things Square has done and how the userbase responded to it). Some of it sounds like people want a reason to leave and were waiting for the right moment. That's my two cents, and this is coming from someone who reaaaalllllyy wants male viera. I have a feeling they'll deliver, but it's not the end of the world for me if we don't get it.
I believe the outcry intensified especially cause we were about to discover male Viera, which have never seen before. I still think there would be "unlock genders" for any race, be it Hrothgar, Viera, Bangaa, Ival. Moogles or [insert your wish]. Some people were waiting for months, some even since years because the request for a playable Viera race started even before Au ra got implemented. We are talking about 3-4 years now.
I still think some people overreacted, like they always do. This happened with Eureka too. Bluemage. But imo, asking in a friendly manner, supportive and patiently way will help much more than canceling subs and posting it in the OF. The mog station is actually asking for the reason when canceling the sub, which should be viewed as feedback.
I support Male Viera and Female Hrothgar!
I still question the validity of the 'Lore' keeping Viera males forever in the forest. Especially since ffxiv has it own lore separate from 12 and the other Ivalice games.
Why has no Male ever tried to leave the forest.
Why from birth to death has not a single Male never deviated from this at all?
Why do they not have the freewill to choose?
Who is taking their freewill in this?
Isn't it bad to take someone's choice away?
Are make Viera okay? Do they need rescue?
Every member of a populace conforming exactly to the culture is more unbelievable then They never leave cus reasons!
The viera race hype has been going on since closed beta, 7+ years ago. it all started when SE created a poll asking what new races we wanted implemented. One of the options was a beast race with viera as a sample. it was by far the most popular option.
Yoshi-P said using Viera as an example was a mistake, since he didn't want to add the viera race to the game, but the hype never truly went away. It was brought up over and over again in closed beta, open beta, and in several threads since the main game launched. And yeah, people were upset when the au'ra were released because Viera was by far the most requested race option. from the beginning we were all excited about the notion of specifically playing bunny boys.
They've known all of this for almost a decade.
Almost at 1500, don't forget to share this.
I'm supportive of adding male Viera to the game, especially how they have been envisioned here.
I support the idea of male Viera being similar to the female Viera, with minimal sexual dimorphism present. Males being a few inches taller and with a little more muscle makes sense to me.
It's already very disappointing how much of the gear is gender-locked, it's a huge step backwards to gender-lock races again too.
Especially for something like viera where so much of the excitement about having them added was specifically so we could finally see the males of their race.
Nearly 1500 likes! Wow keep it up people!
I support our collected stance against gender locking. I shall now quote someone from a similar Reddit thread that I thought was both on topic and informative.
"Also, it's always explicitly implied the WoL (WoD now?) is an adventurer and adventurers generally buck tradition and cultural norms. Most Lalafell are merchants of some kind and mostly in Ul'dah - but you can still be a greatsword wielding crazy popoto who signed up with the Adders to fight the Empire. The PC in almost every game is a cultural exception due to necessity. While a Male Miqote player can CHOOSE to RP out the N'uhn climb liftstyle, most don't and the main plot-line certainly gives you little time for it.
This implies not even a single male Viera ever decides to leave their seclusion to seek adventure or life elsewhere. And that's ridiculous."
I also will hope that the missing genders will be added in, hopefully sooner rather than later, in patches similar to how NIN and BLU were added to the game.
That's what I keep saying! The lore is a shakey excuse at best! It's more unbelievable that not a single Male in all of history from birth to death has never deviated from the cultural norm.
And if they are gonna stick to their guns here the what's preventing all males ever from leaving? What's taking their choice away? It would feel quite nefarious!
And ffxiv has it's own lore separate from 12 and The other Ivalice titles and so things ARE different!
I couldn't agree more! lore is a shoddy exscuse... My backstory (yup, i spent a week and a half making a backstory before we had the news ) made perfect sense for a male viera to be out off the wood... It was going to be along the lines of, His mother had around a dozen children who were 'born asleep'. Only one child survived after the tragedies that befell the mother over the years (Remember, VIera have a very very long lifespan). the child survived turned out to be a son at adolescence, knowing he would be taken away to become a wood warden she fled the forest with him. after losing many children she didn't want to lose her only one.
It made sense from a lore perspective and a behavioral perspective. if a mother had suffered many still births and miscarriges, she would do anything she could to cherish and protect her one and only child.
The problem with that is two fold. One - it's a weak excuse no matter how you slice it, unless the lore is "they die if they leave the forest" or something. In which case evolution would still be a thing. Two - they're trapping themselves in the case they do add them eventually...
For me this argument is a rebuttal to those opposed to the idea of Male viera being playable. The lore is shakey and filled with holes and is not a good stance to argue from.
Now I do agree that the devs should have put more time and money into the new race development. They would have know how much effort it takes to implement a new race after AuRa!
Got to say bravo i love that backstory <3
I'll try give mine:
After growing up to adolescence my character and 1 other in the village are identified as male now my character and this other very close friends but were also close friends with 2 others who were female, a male had arrived into the village to mate the next day he said he would be staying for 2 weeks before he took us away. During the next 2 weeks my friends who were female distanced themselves from me and my male friend we were saddened by this but we understood it was how things were done. My character's mother and my male friend's mother were preparing themselves for the eventual farewell and preparing us for what we had to face. My character's mother was a wood warden and i was receiving as much fighting training as she could fit in between her duties while my friend's mother was a salve maker and was imparting useful medical knowledge into him.
Once the 2 weeks were up we went to the village entrance we said our farewells to our mothers and although my mother was staying strong on the outside my character could tell she was broken up she had just lost her only child, my friend however was in tears. No sooner had we left the safety of the village did our mentor turn round and yell at my friend "If you don't stop now i'll kill you right here", I protested "Let me give him a min and i'll lead us both to the designated spot", Mentor goes "Good glad to see one of you has enough fire within" he then pulls out a map "meet me here, if your not by sunset you will be left to fend with the wood" and with that he leaped away. I take this time to calm my friend down and plot our course forward, as we continue i explain "Your going to need to start thinking for yourself 1st" my friend goes "Why?" i go "Because that is all we will have when we become like him" my friend goes "I don't want that i want us to stay friends :D" "Heh you never did like being without me were you hoping i was a girl :P" he goes "I like you as you didn't care who you were" I blush "Right forward".
Over the next few years we train and toughen up to become the new wood wardens on the eve of the final trial me and my friend were preparing both our victory speech but our farewell ones as well, I decided to go get 1 last big meal setup for us unfortunately while getting the ingredients i got bite by a poisonous spider, i had initially shrugged it off but by time got back to base i had collapsed. By the time i awoke it was nearing sunset and i saw my friend pleading me to eat this goop, "Eat this now before its too late" i hear and with what strength i had i did shortly after i lost consciousness again. When i next awoke it was nearing sunrise i looked around and see my friend slumped next to me pale as can be. "Wake up Wake up" I cried he briefly stared back and in a whisper "Good it worked" he shut his eyes and only after shaking him a few more times did i noticed he had lost an arm and a leg, "No" i muttered holding his head against my chest for the 1st time since i was a boy i cried. Our mentor came shortly after "Looks like only one of you is going to be doing the trial or would you rather die here with him?", I glared back at our mentor grit my teeth and yelled "I live for both of us". With that i buried my friend said my farewells and became a man.
20 years later, while patrolling the outer perimeter of the forest i spot interlopers trespassing, one group was a hyur family who being chased by metal men seeing as the metal men were wielding weapons that started fires i dispatched them as fast as i could, once they were dead i shot a note at the family to leave now or suffer the same fate, they obliged. Thinking to stay close in case anymore decide to enter, while none ever did my eyes could not help but look outward and see the devastation that was wrought so close to our home. Despite everything i have been taught by my mother, my mentor, it was my lost friend who's deeds resonated with me the most just like he couldn't turn his back on me when i needed help i felt i couldn't turn my back on those that needed it, it was selfish i thought to turn away from my life forever but it felt right to do so. And with that my character set out from the woods keeping to the shadows, helping those out of sight eventually i made my way to Kugane a snuck aboard a boat where it was bound i couldn't care less it was never my destination that mattered just how i lived my/our life.
Thus 2.0 Limsa intro and continue from there etc :P
Sorry for huge wall but when Az-man posted theirs i couldn't help myself XD this would be my bunnyboi backstory if we get male Viera :P
There is a thing that actually crossed my mind though. All races, every clan - in this case Miqo'te males - while Moon keepers are rare, Sun Keepers are not. You actually meet a tribe in Gyr Abania.
While we have lore about Rava and Veena Viera, we do not have more details about both clans in detail. What Im trying to say is, both clans could still have different values and traditions. I find it very harsh to put both clans into one pot, with the little lore we got. And in my opinion, its just generalizing them way to much.
Maybe Veena Viera (males and females) interact different than Rava Viera (female+male). I think, this option gives more freedom to expand on the lore in future. Then again, Im not sure how much more lore other races got... so just an idea.
