I'm glad to see people still care about the job being more than it currently is, hopefully they do someday revisit it instead of letting it die off as it looks like it was intended to do.

Yeah, because aesthetics are the absolute base that a person can enjoy in this game. No need to do hard content or put yourself out there or if your job is playable as long as you look pretty in Limsa.

Jobs should always have priority over new races, and that's the truth. The most disappointing aspect of this community is the constant moving of the goal posts, especially extremely lax and kind to SE for mistakes and when they release controversial content.

limit job are end game content of a different type it focus on a job not be focus on mainline story or raid content or dungeon content but job focus one gain skill or pets or part for one puppet such this is your problem you want a job basic on your term not basic on SE term. you don't see it as a end game content jobs you want it be be involve in same grind as any other jobs is. instead realize that blue mage is a different type of end game content not every end game content has be focus on raid or dungeon or such. seem the casual gamers want what hardcore gamers have but not doing work for it. I rather have them do beastmaster and puppetmaster in same way since the machinac require for them have be different. Yoshi P always state the complex jobs are hard for people learn yet they are doable. so in this way the hardcore gamers get limit jobs which are different then what other content is. I fine with this because I understand content must be different for different gamers. every gamers is different every job is different and it doesn't have be focus on normal grind

seem to me this just people want blue mage to be just like every other job not understand not every job has connect to raid or dungeon or a liner line

and make a blue mage dps that's not limited

and have to level limited blue mage to 50 to unlock the other blue mage for continuity sake

You do realize that those advocating for Blue Mage to become a full job aren't asking for Masked Carnival to be discontinued, correct? If you want to continue playing Blue Mage within that limited environment, you can continue to do so even with it as a full job. Blue Mage becoming a full job is all about adding more to do with the job. We should not be settling for less.

Those asking to "just make" Blue mage a full job don´t take into account, that
1. Developement time/ressources are a thing
2. Another new job would have to be canceled in favor of blue mage
3. Blue mage is side content, it never was intended to be more. (SE should never have called it "job" in the first place, but thats another story)
4. Blue mage is only lvl 50 atm; more content for 5.1 is already announced;
5. Limited jobs are a good idea for side content. Jobs that never would be implemented otherwise (like BLU) can still get their place in the game.

I actually wouldn't mind this idea. People could get a gist of how Blue mage works and then after that maybe the skills could be reworked to sort of mimic the look of the skills you learned. Have the skills function change so that we don't have 5 of the same skills.

And those defending SEs decision don't realise a lot of people consider it bad side content in general currently (willing to be proven wrong in updates but i doubt itll be good), and also that having your favourite job be a joke is not substitute for being able to main it, and im totally fine losing other jobs if it means BLU is playable

Or people can complain about more than one thing. At the time of its release blue was talked about quite a lot but we are told that we should wait for the next content before we give our final feedback..so it makes sense that the topic would drop down. The new expansion just released with genderlocked races..so of course people will talk about this. That does not mean that we (as those posting in that thread) dont care about gameplay or jobs at all. Its just that its not the focus right now but I can assure you that as soon as the new blue only content comes out it will be talked about again.

Also nobody stops you (as in those wanting to still talk about gameplay) to make threads about it or visit old ones again.

About the topic: My view has not changed. Limited blue is useless content in my eyes which should have been used elsewhere..sadly since I will probably need to level it first (and acquire certain skills) I wont see the new content they have planned...but I cant see how that will ever be so great that this limited job is fine..they could have easily done that too with a normal blue job.

I think there in lies the rub, a lot of people are treating it like it was a choice between normal BLU and limited BLU when everything Yoshi ever said about the job when asked was basically it won't work, fit and likely will never be, meaning before they came up with the idea for limited jobs there was never going to be a BLU.

I like the limited version, it leaves a lot to be desired but I'm hoping given updates they'll make improvements but I doubt they'll ever unlock it, a lot of people would rather it never existed if that's the case and that fine but I disagree, Beast Master was another job sited to be a limited job, before that and Yoshi not liking pet jobs I'd resigned myself to never getting it, if my choices are limited or not at all, I'll happily take a limited version.

I do agree it never should have been called a job, it may masquerade (heh...) as one but it very much isn't. it's side content like the Gold saucer or hunts, e.c.t and like other side content it's pretty bare bones right now, but that's just how most side content is in it's first release the Gold saucer launched with a limited amount of mini-games, prizes and activities. Several updates later it's gotten so much better and offers so much more, so long as they keep supporting BLU it'll likely end up the same.

I do sympathise with those who wanted BLU as a standard job but that was likely never meant to be, for SE it was this or just no BLU, even if 14 keeps going for 10+ more years, not every job can make it in or be made to fit in, for some this may be their only chance for making it into 14 and I'm OK with that.

Would I rather Beast Master be a normal job? Of course, but if they have no interest in ever making it and only consider it as limited I'd rather have some form of it than nothing at all.

Ive never liked this argument of "Yoshi says it would never work" when even with its current implementation its blatant how it could work. Also im fairly sure hes said things wouldnt work before in the past then its been put in the game later anyway, but i may need sourcing on that cos i could be misremembering. And as much as i love blue mage, if they arnt willing to put the effort in to make it a real job, id rather they put the time and resources into good side content regular jobs can do instead of this limited job system.

I'm not agreeing with him saying it would never work, anything could work if they twist it enough to fit, Red is a prime example, it's not a jack of all trades but it honours the flavor of that image with it's healing and rez capabilities. BLU could easily be contorted to fit into 14 systems my point was Yoshis words on the matter made it clear they simply had no interest in trying, they felt they couldn't make it work under the rules they set for themselves regarding the job and so seemed to have zero intention of making it before limited jobs were a thing.

I simply disagree on your last point, I think BLU is fine side content but the true judge will be how it grows moving forward as we're still at ground zero with its implementation, but if my choices are not getting some jobs or getting a limited version of them in the form of side content I'm totally down for that, I main Tanks and healers but a proper pet job is the only thing that could drag me into the dps role full time... unless it was a tank (I can dream...) but despite wanting to main a proper pet job with all my being, if it's nothing or limited I'll take limited.

1. Everyone knows this, but so does every new content. Constant repeating of this makes it seem that SE is unable to make any new content, and going to its logical extreme of it is that SE is unable to make any new content for it.
2. Or the idea can be made for it at a later date instead of right now, while BLU is something that people like me are clamouring for. Why should we be neglected yet others have their content.
3. And the "side content" is what we have been doing all this time, its side content is ARR endgame. It's nothing new.
4. This is just shifting the goal posts everytime someone says this. Will you say the same argument for 5.1? They had all the time to wow us with the concept yet they just keep proving the very worries we have right.

I have lvled it to 50, i have almost all spells (2 missing).

I use BLU more often than for example:
-every job that is not rdm/sch/whm/pld,
-Chocobo racing,
-lord of verminion,
-all pvp content
-Diadem

I use BLU mostly for bossfates, low lvl dungeons (if we are a full premade), self destruct at funny places.

Those saying "just play something other than BLU" or "why make BLU just like the other jobs" are completely missing the point of why people are upset about BLU> They didn't want just another job to play, they want to play BLU. BLU, specifically, is the problem that the system creates. I want to play BLU. Just like I want to play BLM or DRk. But as it as now, we don't get to play BLU, we get to do side content. This side content could have been anything. BLU spells could have easily been limited use eureka actions. Collect them, have fun with them doing jank things, but you can use them in expansion content or DF. The Carnivale? Could have easily been a monster arena to use those actions in. The same puzzles and fun. There is absolutely no reason to have BLU tacked on to either of them. But even if it is, BLU can still exist in a balanced form while having the current content the way it is.

The only reason BLU is limited, and not a real job, is because the dev team willingly made it so. Not because of balance or time constraints or anything. It was what they wanted to do and that sucks for people that want to main their favorite job.

I don't agree with the notion BLU couldn't have been a normal job, it very easily could have been, how true to BLU it would be is a story for another thread as while Red works and a lot are happy with it, some hate how it's not how it is in other FF's so you're never going to please everyone.

The actual question is would there be a BLU? There are so many jobs across the FF franchise, even if 14 continues on for many years only a fraction of them are going to make it in, less so as the devs have expressed a desire to try some 14 exclusive jobs at some point, further limited the space for people hoping their fave makes it in.
BLU may have simply never made the cut, given their stance on it, same with their stance on pet jobs making Pup and Beast Master super unlikely, enter limited "jobs" (still feel they should be called something else) this is where there is no right or wrong answer I get you wanting BLU to be a full job and I understand if it's this or nothing some of you would rather nothing I personally would rather take a limited job over nothing and actually enjoy BLU in its current form.

The problem is, if 5.1 comes and BLU fails so spectacularly that SE considers it a total loss it's not going to get reworked like a job would, because it's not a job, they won't be able to turn around and just make it a full caster, it'll get treated like what it is, side content.
The two most likely outcomes to BLU being deemed a failure by SE is:
1: They just consider limited jobs a loss and abandon any further development on it and BLU simply dies a la LoV
2: They treat it like Diadem and try and take everything they learn forward to improve the next limited job and if that works they likely put said improvements into BLU after.

Given Yoshi and the team feel so adamantly that they can't get BLU to work with their vision in mind as a full job, then it's this or it dies, their not looking to make BLU a full job I don't agree with their reasoning though I understand it but given that stance limited BLU either works or it dies but to them that is the only BLU.

I will say with 100% certainty that I, as a person without any game development experience or story writing abilities could figure out a way to make BLU a job that:
1) fits in with the lore of blue mage while still retaining the unique ability acquirement
2) make it possible to acquire abilities that make it similar to a regular dps
3) allow it to run DF
4) be max level
5) allow it to rotate roles even. This would work be recognizing your class role type via spells you've enabled, similar to spec changes in WoW where you choose to change spec and thus xyz are enabled. If xyz are not available you can not pick the role yet.

The problem is they never really wanted that to be the case I'm assuming.

There are a variety of possibilities blu had, one was being a true multi-spec class. Others were at least being a dps that was melee and magic or ranged and magic. Nothing about how blu acquires abilities is what keeps it from DF/becoming a real job. What does is obviously thrown together skills that have no true purpose, no true cohesiveness and no true cds/resource system. blu is just a thrown together job and that's why it was limited. Truth is the job was probably designed to get people back into the game before ShB dropped and took them probably a month of very laid back development with the only real effort required being making animations and porting existing monster ones.

What does make this job "limited" is SE being more limited than their limited job, all abilities in BLU's kit could be considered required to make it a full working dps/whatever, nothing about how BLU works prevents it from becoming a real normal job. Albeit with unique skill acquiring methods.

All BLU requires is SE to actually properly build the skills, no one is going to care if the heals are nerfed if it can actually be played.

I'll be honest I don't really understand any of this, but the job is dead as far as any interest in it as it is.

Doesn't matter how someone dresses it up, no one missed the concept of BLU. BLU was a concept used to manipulate players more likely than anything.

Sad part is people were never upset about it because oh hey I can go acquire abilities that I'll never use again on my dead job and that's fun until you realize the hunt for abilities ends and SE actually doesn't care about the job. It was practically designed in a way where given enough time people would forget about it rather than go into a fit of rage. Viera male rage is probably the strongest sentiment I've ever seen in this game. lol, but getting a junk job with no future was fine.

The argument that you can pick another job is similar to me walking into the viera male rage thread and saying, problem solved, pick another race. Also, that SE's concept for a job is too above is similar to going hey, you just don't understand the lore that will never allow this to happen. Viera males don't exist.

I'll never understand how BLU did not become a PR nightmare, well played SE.

Could someone translate this to actual English? Whatever the case, Blue Mage is dead - and is a very weak class on its own. End of story. Make it a normal job and move on from this ludicrous 'limited job' idea. SE knows what people want, but will they follow through?

Truth is I don't think they ever doubted that people would not like the job as is, that's why there's so obviously little variety in the skill set.

I really don't think they ever intended to make it a full job nor do I think they'll even upkeep it so that it can go to say 60 because honestly, who would care? SE tends to realize its content is DoA and forget it as it should be.

Im not entirely sure what your definition of hardcore content is, but BLU aint it chief. I want to do actual hardcore content like savage and potentially ultimate on BLU. BLU content atm IS casual content. Its just hella grindy

yes grind to get skill I define that hardcore because it require stragtic to get skill and use them in a fashion in select events it also require ability to solo and use them these skill the a casual player doesn't away have. for example the fight in the arena require select skill and you require gain these skills to use them. let suppose beast master and pu0ppet master are add they require select pets and leveling up to meet a level. puppetmaster will require you get select parts for your puppet some are made by crafter other maybe drops in dungeon. doing I think that blue mage should solo only not necessary I think it should be open up to the squadron system allow you to use squadron to aquire magic spell through I agree that it should remain limited. first off not every combat job need be hoke to the raid/dungeon pony show. some combat jobs should not require end game raid yet require different end game content. end game content can be many thing I think blue mage and beast master a puppetmaster are in they own right end game content because the machinac for them are very different then the one for other jobs.

funny how player complain about job connect to the trinity machinac and now they have one that isn't and they still complain about not be connect to trinity. I knew if bst puppetmaster was going introduce then it be different as is blue mage sure I want them to be part of raiding but I came realize that can't away be the case

Edit: a non snide response to this post. BLU took me an afternoon of grind with my mates to get to 50 and beat all of masked carnival and another afternoon to get all the skills bar like 3. Its not even a hardcore grind, the leveling and learning is minimal effort tickboxing and playing the class is fairly simple. So again not hardcore, also im not sure if you use alts but your main here on the forums doesnt even have blu unlocked

I do have blue mage sir I just pefer unlock different characters.

I still would love to have a Blue Mage as a potential main, perhaps the nostalgia speaking strictly here but I loved Blue Mage from FFXI and was really hoping/looking forward to giving it a FFXIV whirl.

Said it before but while I would agree that making Blue Mage a main job would absolutely take resources I would add it's probably one of the most cost effective decisions they could make (on adding a "new job"), so it's resources but likely not as much as usual. Since they already have many concepts, beginning lore/introduction, base localization, basic systems, ability icons/spell visuals and effects, animations, and more implemented into the game. I don't want to say that means it's easy per say but that I do think Blue Mage is an "easier option" and maybe might make something they had originally said "never again" with Ninja a possibility again.

That said, while I would be a bit sad always thinking "what if" I could main Blue Mage, I could live and enjoy blue mage being truly limited if it just (imo) felt more to "can't be balanced", felt more ridiculous, as well as mechanically smoother (there are many cast spells, few spell interactions, and no combos). Making it just a monster of monsters. Imo, if we're going the "can't be balanced route" I'd like to see Blue Mage be able to shrug off "those can't be done solo" concepts.

I think to me if Blue Mage was a bit like overpowered trading card game with more interlinked mechanics I'd have fun with it as that. But currently, to me, it feels weak for what I already have (levels would help obviously), and particularly weak when considering the high grind, and with not as much flow as I'd like for a job (rather than playing cards that play off each other a lot of times I just feel like playing unrelated cards down, and occasionally a truck load of buffs just for one spell). I get that each job has a different style and not all styles each person will like (so maybe that's that), but I feel Blue Mage is missing some of that glue between skills since there are few interactions, easily resistible or already 100% resisted buff based spells, no combos, and not really a system to encourage diversity aside from going out to learn some oGCD + buff your big bursts.

Like I said I think a main-able blue would be cool (at least coming from a "I loved FFXI blue" perspective), but I would have fun with a job that's basically a trading card game where you have multiple sets of "decks" because each one is uniquely intertwined and powerful. Like a Diablo 3 legendary affix combo system where one item lets your Barbarian jump three times, another lets you cast avalanche on each jump, another gives you energy at each avalanche cast, another makes a high burst spell no cooldown but have cost, and all a sudden you've got a set of things that come together into a hurricane of madness. Yet you still go and try other combinations because it's just fun to fiddle with the affixs. I'd love to have that feeling when SE adds a new "card" to blue mage that my "deck" is shattered in possibilities (I get that couldn't happen all the time, but that sort of feeling when new cards are added to other TCGs for example).

Aside from that I still think perhaps a failed spell learning buff could help quite a bit, each time you fail to learn a spell a buff is added (until log out or successful learning) that increases the chance. At least for dungeon/trial spells.

Also I thought the idea someone added that spells add to Blue Mage's ilvl could be a really neat idea. Since it means every spell is valuable even if you have no intention of using it and the Blue Mage isn't necessarily OP out the gate but the more you collected the more you'd just get a passive buff to your character.

Hopefully this 5.1 new content will do something to spice stuff up, iirc Yoshida said there would be new spell mechanic or something on top of new spells. Not sure if that means some of the new spells would work together like Dragon/Ram Voice, if they added a sort of "glue" to make Blue Mage spells have a tighter connection, or what have you, but I am looking forward to what 5.1 brings and if perhaps any feedback was considered.

I believe it's all taken into account and it's also called blue mage, what else would they call it? A limited sideshow? It's a literal job.

People don't take into account that what they made is just a garbage heap, I don't think anyone would pick the carnival over the opportunity to have a full blu job in either case.

Also, limited jobs are not a good idea. They are a lazy idea.
Any job can be implemented, and that thinking is just like saying "no male viera was a good idea because how can they implement it without a model".

I don't get this mentality at all, it's like oh hey SE could give us more but please give us less.. We're all greedy little bad babies and we couldn't handle being treated like players subbing to a AAA game THAT INCLUDES A CASH SHOP. lol

the limit jobs are very good ideal your desire for them to be anything more is not good ideal look blue mage gain skill by fight monster can you figure out how to apply that without make it over power hmm no. the fact that limit jobs have use different machinac that different for normal jobs are hard balance with normal jobs. Yoshi P said he want add job unique to ffxiv which I believe he going do. we got every job we want samuri black mage summoner through summoner need more work. dark knight through it used a great sword. ninja bard paladin machinist who thought they doing this one and they made machinist work now.

1. And? Of course this would take time. I haven't seen anyone with unrealistic expectations.
2. By saying, "another new job would have to be cancelled" is that assuming that it would be a normal, full job that is cancelled? If so, then I disagree. I've suggested elsewhere that development time that would be spent on the next limited job should instead be spent on getting Blue Mage to where it should be: a real job. And since limited jobs are nothing more than side content, we would be traded side content for a full fledged job that can experience all content. That sounds like a good deal to me.
3. And FFXIV 1.0 was intended to be a hit. That didn't quite work out now did it? If a product doesn't deliver on what fans had hoped for, and the developers have the power to make things right, why shouldn't they give fans what they want?
4. More side content for the sideshow. The thought alone has me jumping with joy. /s

Yes, level 50, all spells, all Blue Mage titles, doing full BLU runs and solo as a Blue Mage, geared it up to ilvl 130. I seen and done everything a BLU can do.

this thread hasn't give blue mage a chance because it hasn't wait see what blue mage will be in next patches I would rather have them go through they entire patch cycle before we more thread like this. since blue mage has just been introduce. yet no you want it to be a normal jobs. I rather people wait you all are going half cock and scream about your not have your way remind me of children who kick over a board game when they lose. seem to me this will be my last post on this thread because I hoping this thread will fade like all rest of complaint thread that people will wait and see it same I hope for other limit jobs

If you sit and twiddle your thumbs waiting for it to get better you end up with a diadem, or a lord of verminion. I gave BLU a chance, months ago, Ill give it another chance when they update it in 5.1, but that doesnt stop me wanting my favourite Job across the whole of final fantasy playable in normal content. Yes I want it as a "normal", because ive played this game for 5 odd years now because I like this games "normal" endgame content of raids trials savage ect, and Id like to participate in these things as my favourite Job from across the final fantasy franchise, not be forced to play content that I and many other find incredibly dull and short lived if I want to play it

The idea that some future patch will make blu fun is silly, I like BLU's concept and know 100% there's no reason it couldn't have been fit into the current game though with only small adjustments to skills.

This is purely a decision they made that shows me Yoshi P actually doesn't care about the game in my opinion, that may be too far for some but I wouldn't make people's favorite job into this abomination and I'm only mildly a FF fan anymore. I'm amazed someone passionate about FF would be ok making a job into a joke.

I'm still not sure how people argue what was done here is ok yet their decision with races in this expansion was not. I honestly challenge anyone to explain how it's ok to give your players less on purpose with no proper reason, other than time constraints there's no excuse for any of it. Even then there's a proper way to handle releasing content.

BLU is my favorite FF job of all time from V forward. I mained BLU in XI for a decade. I wanted nothing more than for it to come to XIV. When it did I got everything I want then was told I couldn't main it. I was so mad I quit and refused to even look at this game let alone play till this last week when I was given ShB and a 2 month sub card and felt obligated. Please for the love of everything make it a real class YoshiP.

It takes some kind of blindness and arrogance to assume those with complaints about BLU haven't given it a chance or haven't tried it.
