I think most people want fierce and hawt. I'm not trying to insult the current Roeg females out there, but they don't generally fit the mainstream idea of sexy.

I'd rather see a race that's completely unique from the current trend of "hyur+horns/ears" because that's already become somewhat of a meme and yet ANOTHER addition will only make it worse.
But if they do add Viera, I hope they look as bestial and fierce as possible, so much so that they buck the "hyur+horns/ears" trend.
As far as appearance goes? I'd say no. Not much is fierce about Lalas, Miqo, Elezen, Hyur (minus a few grizzled Highlander faces maybe), etc.
Story-wise, we're obviously the WoL and enjoy kicking ass in our free-time, but you'd never know it by looking at most of our characters.
I voted in both polls and my vote remained the same. Anyway If they did implement Viera I would want them to be like Fran and the first concept art that was shown in this thread. I’m not looking for cute or miqo’te ish versions.
Its not that people dont watn fierce looking women, they just dont want them to look semi masculine.
When people think Fierce Female Amazon, they think Wonder Woman. Roe women tend to have more masculine facial and body features. And Miqote and Aura Women play to much of the feminine form. Miqote being to wire-y, and Aura being to "cute" and demure in appearance (even for a warrior race).
Edit: To Clarify, Female Roes are more like She-Hulk, AuRa are to demure and cutesy to be fierce, and Miqote are kinda to whispy and slim in build.
elezen still retain zero fierceness. theyre inbetween aura and miqote for me. When I compare the races, you have your base humans which are....well human. Midlanders are the epitome of wide eyed innocence and the highlanders border on fem roe status. They just aren't quite right. Elezen are just long limbed and graceful (tho their runs are awful). They lack the ferocity of the highlanders and fem roes. Miqotes and au ra's definitely fall into the waifu category (which I'm not mad at mind you) of being cute, the miquote more on wirey and playful. Looking at them I wouldn't guess there was a fierce bone in their body. Lala's....well potatoes.... Roegaedyn are amazing at the fact they are fierce as they come when compared to the other races. But it borders on too much almost. If they could play on a Fran model that balances both cute, with fierceness without going overkill on either, you'd have the inbetween of Roes and the waifu's. Remember tho, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What I think and what you think could be very much the opposite. I've played as every race...even some males.... (#idonthaveafantasiaproblem) and I'm still not satisfied.
Highlander are okay but I tend to try and play something that isn't generic human when the opportunity presents. As for Elezen they're just too gangly and that neck, I was elezen for less than a month before I couldn't stand the proportions anymore. I'm fairly content being a femroe but that doesn't mean I can't wish there was an option that wasn't 'human with a funny nose' that fit my aesthetics. Even if it was 'human with a funny nose, funny feet, and bunny ears'.
they aren't really... gangly per say but their proportions are more similar to elezen than anything else, especially the length of their arms which almost go to the knee and their legs (and no, this isn't bc theyre wearing heels.)
i think this picture is a pretty good reference: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f1/c5...b60efd9511.jpg
Yes, I want to be a bunny! :D
See I see this picture and to me... I love Fran, yes.
But she's just an Elezen with ears? She doesn't even have animalistic feet. She's on the tips of her toes with the help of some heels.
So I keep seeing people say they don't want a Hyur with ears.... I guess an Elezen with ears is better? Isn't that just a tall Hyur with pointy ears?
I give my support for Viera! But only for the second picture.
No argument there. Just wanted to point out the feet are actually kinda... not human-like (there's a reason Yoshi-P mentioned them).
wouldn't mind them myself can't say I play one but still would like to see some around gives me a few races of girls to flirt with :D
well a model from FF12 isn't really representative, plus they have already make clear that if viera come they will make change for make them own sort of viera, that why the concept art was quite different.
just a reminder quite amusing, but actually outside aora most of the race of ff14 we can play are already race that come from previous FF, they are race from FF11 with modification, but are highly inspired from it... then see race from other FF pop in the game is not impossible, especially with Rabanastre raid that simply rubs onto our face a clear link between ishgard and hyadelin... worst we did seen 2 race from ivalice from this raid, and i'm kinda sure before the last raid we will pop out the viera, if they are smart, they will present the viera with the last raid that will come for the 4.5, right before the next expansion...
however, it's perfectly possible that nothing will be done and it will be sad to not add them....
vangaa and seek pose a trouble with equipement since some part of the equipement is simply not showable on them or will recquire a tons of work for adapt them to the new skeleton and model... and the real trouble with this is the fact that we have 2 expansion of content already.... more of 15 major patch of armor and clothing that need to be adapted.... do it's impossible, no clearly not, but do they will take this hard road, i doubt they have the manpower for this... that why ao ra was that similar to the other race.
and why viera is possible because even if they adapt them to be different, what is fairly easy, since in FF14 actually for the women we lack one sterotype, the glamour one, the sexy one... elezen are strange tall, but not the sexy and glamour archetype, miqote are the tomboy archetype, the aora is the cute girl archetype, the roe is the muscular one, the hume is....well basic one and lala is lala...
they can perfectly make the women the viera the amazone type glamourous and sexy while strong women... it will perfectly fill one spot we don't have soo far. for the male they can perfect make something at the opposite, like the women are the strong one , while the male are smaller and less muscular, more agile type. for make simple, the inverse of the aora, women tale and sexy, while male smaller and more agile one. will be interesting... since technically viera male was never shown in ivalice, since they are generally hidden and protected.
in all in all, if that happend i'm curious how they will do it... if that don't happend i will be sad, since honestly yoshida is responsible for this situation, when he did ask about the new potential race with his poll add viera into it was.... well... a bad move or a good one depend of the viewpoint...
anyway, he need to come out and clearly states if they will or not add it... but i doubt it will end well if is not. *laughs* i did played a lot of mmo and never i had seed a race soo much asked and creating soo much passion about. it will be a bad move to simply drop the ball, but fan fest is coming we will know sooner or later... next years.
ps: i want to make clear something here, the viera is a bit an arlesienne for FF14 yoshida and his team can decide to not do it but we have seen that with the arrival of the aora, people still asked for it... i guess is in the interest of the game to add them, especially with the raid that litterally say that ivalice did exist in hyadelin and showing race of it.
the add of viera is not do it will happend, is more, when it will happend.
I'm unsure of what the problem is with this discussion about "everything is a hyur with ears".
If we consider that hyur = humanoid shape, every race is obviously going to be humanoid. They aren't going to create a deformed, senseless race, and they aren't going to create a fully animal race that run on their four. Every race has to be humanoid so that adapting armour is easy. Also, because people aren't going to play things that are too deformed or monster-like (see the low Roe population as an example). The majority of people tend to play the races that look the most attractive to them.
That Viera, miqo'te, and Au Ra look humanoid doesn't mean they're hyurs or that they're unoriginal. It simply means they have a humanoid shape, which is what most of us want.
Thank you I completely and wholeheartedly agree. I understand those that want more unique races are allowed their opinions, however i feel there may be a disconnect they do not want to address about the developers and to a certain extent, many FF fans mind set. Much of the appeal of the FF series as a whole is it's beauty, not only of it's worlds, items, and music, but of it's characters. Every main FF protagonist from 1 - 15 has been unearthly beautiful, that goes for men and women.
Dissidia art
I have come to believe that this occurrence is not by chance, but instead a staple of the series as a whole and one that is very important not only to many fans, but also to the upper echelons of the company. What else explains 1.0-2.0? it is beloved and they know how important the series tenets are to their fans, FFXIV is often been called a theme park mmo, that's by design. Including aspects from previous FF titles is a win for them as they simply need to dig in to the past to bring out new content.
I am biased, i will admit it. For me the subtle changes between the races is enough. I understand that may not be enough for some, but i do not see it changing any time soon. WoW is the largest mmo, with the largest player base. It touts a race selection that is far more diverse than almost any other game out there. For their next expansion they have made sure both factions now have access to both variants of eleves in the inclusion of subraces.

There are other races i'll not lie, however they are also merely color swaps of existing races (visually, there are stat and racial skill differences). Point being since the first expansion of the game nearly all races introduced have been those that appeal to more traditional fantasy races. Notable exception to this would be the Pandaren race.
Pandaren-
I have not done research on their popularity (I have no interest in them personally), however from my own experience I see very few of them about. In this example, the popularity of the more celebrated races was evident, the dev team at Blizzard understood that and adjusted to give the player base what they wanted. I hope SE/ FFXIV does the same. Even if the differences are subtle, even if the race selection is nothing more than "humans with stuff added" i do not see it as a bad thing really.
There is a reason i play FFXIV more than WoW, it's because of those subtle differences between races. (and the lack of shoulder pads hat look like boats on my character)
^ I find the Void Elf Men to be incredibly sexy. I'd actually start playing WOW if you didn't already need stuff to unlock those races.
Mister Yoshida! Hear our pleas!
Grant us our wish, grant us our dream!
What about the Banga'a, the Seeq, and the Nou Mu? I'd be all for the Viera also. I see the Viera as a predominantly female race (the men are basically non existent in FFXII and i seam to remember there being dialogue about them not being suitable for battle/hunting). This was also the case with the Mithra in FFXI, but was adapted to fit the lore of XIV, so none of it is out of the realm of possibility.
My personal choice would be to play as a crossbreed between Hyur and Tonberries ^^
I freely admit that I am far from the minority but when I pick a playable race I usually go with the one the most removed from humans. I mean I play as a humans IRL so why bother doing that when i have more interesting choices. In WoW I either role Pandaren or Worgen. Of course I mostly do that cause those two have the best starting zones.
I fully support the inclusion of Viera because the overwhelming majority of the community want it. And I want changes that make the community happy (as long as it does not negatively affect my gaming experience. And it doesn't) and depending on how they end up I might race change into one.
However I would be very interested in seeing if SE can make more beautiful races that are more removed from Hyur. Things like: plant person or lala with animal parts. Granted Viera would be Elezen with animal parts so whatever.

I wont say no to viera, yet id like to see something more unique to ffxiv.
I would like a cyborg race, in away as a genetically manipulation between human and machinet tey would fit into allagan lore.
While this would be still a lesser humanoid race yet it could compromise the need for a more bestial race but also still mach the aesthetics of ffxiv.
physical build id like to see something less petite. skin tones could mach metallic colours as they appear in nature which still contain almost human alike skin tones. you could add as the aura scales, tubes, wires, what ever mechanical parts to the skin attached. as the aura race where you can choose the limbal rings, give the options of mechanical eye so people can differ them self how much they will remain human or robot. instead of scars there could be the option to add more mechanical parts like half metal mask or wires as an idea etc. perhaps this could come along with a telekinesis job?
Give me the taller/elegant versions and fine.
If they're just going to more super-small cute adorable moe-things then I'm no longer interested in their addition (namely, we have plenty of that)
