After trying yet again to go towards soot black, i ended up in dalamud red.
Anyone got any advice to share towards getting Soot?
I was thinking maybe 10 apples and 3 mamook pears?
Help me out! ;_;

So, I've read through about every page in this thread, and I thank everyone for their submissions. I've gotten mine to Ink Blue currently and am waiting on results for Soot Black. I fed it one Pineapple and hope I don't hit the loop I know others are running into.
My theory on fixing the loop scenario. Obviously there might be some RNG involved, and different numbers but we know a value is higher then the others, otherwise the color swap wouldn't continually happen. There has to be a color range that our Chocobos are getting shoved into (*close enough* mechanic) that makes the smaller jumps a little challenging. Wouldn't this be alleviated by 'leveling out' the colors? It wouldn't work at the mid range colors, but for Soot black and obviously a light color like Snow White it should.
What I'm suggesting if you are having the 'loop effect' on Soot black, is to evenly feed darkening fruit to essentially 'bottom out' your colors. Say you are at Ink Blue/Kobold Brown/Deepwood Green and you are looping. Just feed it.. (random guess) x3 of berry/apple/pear, and 'bottom out' your colors (hopefully) to be rather even (close to 0). If this in itself doesn't round you to say.. Soot black, then after the x3 darkening session, start lightening sessions as they should be even. This will bring your r/g/b factors up closely and should result in Soot black by the 2nd or 3rd session IMO.
This is of course theory, but I hope it might help break the loop some are running into. I'm hoping I don't hit the loop myself. If I do, I am going to try this. I will probably not have results till late tonight if anything, but if other people want to try themselves and post results that would be great too.
The other option is of course to try and single out the culprit of the loop.. which is obviously a bit harder to do.. then alternate two of the darkeners (high red = berry + pear sets) to get it even. So that is another option if you have an idea of the culprit. It is obviously a mixed culprit (high red, +med high blue as example) that is giving the loop mixed in with the rounding SE put in for each color, but if you bring one down to similar levels (med - med high) then you'll less likely hit an infinite loop, and more likely round into Soot black.
Sorry for the ramble, I hope one of these methods work for the frustrated people!
My theory is that the change each snack gives is random. The only way to do it is to try something that should push you in the right direction (in this case, Berries and Pears), and then see what happens. You never want to stop on a non- "New Feathers" message, because if you don't get the message, there won't be a change. I would do like 5x of each and, assuming you get the message, see where you are before proceeding. If you don't get the message, try more, or you may even want to throw in a Plum or two, but I'd wait on that until your red was lower.
Update on my endless black loop. I'm at Ink Blue and as suggested to me I did 2 Pineapples and 1 Valfruit... baaaack to Kobold Brown. I went to Kobold Brown last time by using just 1 pineapple.
I think my next step is to "bottom out" my RGB by darkening all the way then math my way up with lightening fruits to try and get to soot range.
I can confirm that the Snow White "recipe" is not 100% correct but like 90%.
- 15 Plums
- 6 Pineapples
- 12 Valfruit
First feed got bone white but just fed him 2 more Plums and finally got snow white, it seems that some people got snow white on the first feed, also read that you can get snow white if you only feed him plums (don't think it's possible with only plums thought).

Leonesaurus recommended using 2 pineapples 1 valfruit and 1 plum. think that lack of a plum made the difference?
if his theory is right and the fruits do +5/-5 values assuming you were set at
R/G/B values
22/26/34 for ink blue
your new values would be
37/31/29
this is exceptionally close to soot black at 37/35/30 but his other theory is that soot black requires the colors to all be in the 30's range. your blue value was at 29. this might explain why it went back to brown
So in terms of math, how are we treating this?
Deepeners do +5 to primary and -5 to secondary? Berries +5 blue -5 red/grn?
Lighteners do what, the opposite? Pineapples do -5 blue and +5 red/grn?
Is that the correct math thinking on this?
i'm currently at midnight blue, aiming for soot black or possibly ink blue if it happens to land there i might keep it... i've fed it 3 pineapples and 1 berry. i'm still not sure whether that was actually the right decision or not. any suggestions on this? this whole colour system makes my brain ache and so far i've just been going of what other people have tried but not ended up with quite the same results, so it's not like i actually have any idea what i'm doing. heh.
thats the current theory i suppose. im doing the ink blue to soot black test by doing 2 pineapples 1 plum and 1 valfruit.
will post results in 5 hours unless leonesaurus posts soon to say that doesnt work
edit: im currently stuck in the ink blue>kobold brown>deepwood green loop
Stuck on cactuar green, trying to get to hunter green or deepwood green. Any tips?
can't wait to see black chocobo fanatsy xiv.
Check out my method. Page 125. Post #1247.

Maybe it will help you as a reference point.
Ok, so I'm testing this out..
Used 2 greens on Blood Red (got the color change on the 2nd so I stopped). I'm GUESSING I am going to get Chocolate brown as that's the closest color to Blood Red that has a slightly higher green level and lower blue/ red level.
If that pans out I'm gonna try boosting blue and lowering red next.
Was going for grape purple from Midnight Blue and managed this...Rolanberry Red.
http://i.imgur.com/YakZhl4.png
1st feed: 5 apples, 2 Berries, 3 pears = Millioncorn Yellow
2nd feed: 10 apples, 5 Berries, 6 Pears = Pumpkin Orange
3rd feed: 30 berries, 5 pears = Royal Blue
4th feed: 5 apples = Midnight Blue
5th feed: 10 apples = Rolanberry Red
I may have given her too many apples lol. At least she matches my crafters...maybe I'll keep her like this for a bit, but anyone have any tips on sliding closer to grape purple? xD
Can someone please help me figure out how to go from Royal Blue to Grape?
So, going for peacock blue. I accidentally fed the pears first, 10 of them, then fed the berries, 21 of them. After the first two berries I got the message about the plumage. Wondering if that will negate the first ten pears, or if I will end up with something besides the peacock blue color I am going for. Wondering if I should feed it ten more pears again. Going to wait as I won't see results until 8pm ish this evening.
Ok, so I got somewhat of mixed results. I have to come outright and say that, at 4-5 o'clock in the morning, I added 1 extra valfruit by mistake. So, what I posted is what I should have done. But because I didn't feel like resetting the 6 hour cooldown of doom, I decided to math my way back to the right numbers, slightly. I ended up with Wine Red, which is fine, because from there it's one step away from Kobold Brown anyway.
I ended up improvising and going with x2 Pineapples / 2 Valfruits // 1 Plum <---- Only counting fruits with messages popping. What I SHOULD have done was reset my timer and started over with what I originally posted. I had to re-check my math 2-3 times just to be sure (plus because I was super-exhausted then). So, in the end, I think adding the extra valfruit removed a layer, and that's how I went over Kobold Brown and landed on Wine Red (again), which is next up in line.
Trying to get back to Kobold Brown currently. I'll update if anything interesting happens. Sorry for the delay in replying! D:
I would also like to know if anyone at Kobold Brown has ever just tried adding a single O'Ghomoro Berry to see if they could reach Soot Black? I almost tried this to test it in the past, but decided to go with the Plum that people reported to work at the time.
I dunno, I think it's fun to watch the community collaboratively researching this.
Especially after all the squabbling about the hunts.
Going from blue to purple means you'll want to add red. Can't tell you exact amounts tho. :3
I dunno if anyone's posted one of these here yet, but I've found it helpful. :3
Any tips of getting to Lotus Pink [254] [202] [244] from Salmon Pink [226] [165] [131]? I'm having a hard time figuring this out and would appreciate any help at all... please...
Hey, guys, is this useful? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
Finally got my chocobo to Abyssal blue from Blood red, just by feeding 21 berries and 1 pear (all proc message), which is closer to my objective of ink blue.
So currently, I'm on RGB 43 39 80.
Should I add 3/4 apples, 3 pears and 7/8 berries? Or is there some way I'm not considering?
