That's kind of an interesting point. They could have made the summons look like the summons, but size them like the egi. This would fit the concept of the summon being a fraction of the real primals power, but also give us actual summons. That and improving their use as pets would address most of the issues. It would also make XIV summoner different from other FF titles (at least the titles I know.)Quote:

Alot of players are not using Summoner endgame, most people just leveled it to 50 just to have all jobs at 50. The least i would want is to have the FFXI summons ported over for the evolutions, its less work on the dev team. You guys can even add the elemental glow to them on certain parts of the body. This way they still look different from the primals and still maintain the Egi Vision SE has.
I just really wish SE would just open both ears and listen to the players feedback on the job that they are passionate about.

Seriously SE, with all due respect to the design team and Yoshi-P, this is an iconic job that they've turned more into a novelty than anything to feel 'epic' about. I'm not talking about dmg because the job itself performs well, but it simply isn't the summoner we all know and love.
People raised concerns during Beta and were told to wait to play the job before giving a ton of feedback. And now after people have really played the role you say too bad? Sad. C'mon guys. Keep listening to the community on this one. -

Only suggestion I have for SMN is to move where the book sits when we're not engaged. Currently it rests on our character's hip and sadly our character's arm blocks the view of it. I'd like to request the book be placed on our back instead :)

Yes, I realize egi have a fraction of primal's strength and since they're out all the time, having full size summons would be a disaster in, say, FATEs but they're very ugly.

I would just like them to fix the summons to be a bit more responsive, allow us to disable each ability individually so I don't have to macro all abilities in with other spells. And fix issues with how some types AoE damage don't get damage reduction. Make our pets immune to ailments like doom and the stupid debuff in vale boss were you have to eat something to remove the debuff or at least make it so when we clear the debuff our pet gets cleared as well.
These issues area big quality of life issues for both scholar and summoner. In most part the pets do a good job using abilities but at time I would like to let Ifirit do his thing, but control when Ifirit stuns. Would also love to be able to manage fairy buffs. Hate it when I cast Fey Light and 5 seconds later fairy cast Fey Glow :/. -

I feel like summoner is in a good place as far is how its gameplay style is. I like the dot style of play, and think it compliments the pet playstyle very well. You throw a few dots, and command your pet around. My biggest gripe and I think people have touched on this is that the egi's themselves are very "dumb". They do thing on their own and thats great, but there needs to be more control. Allowing us to pick and choose what skills we want them to use, would let people have more options in various fights. An Example is, using Ifrit-egi against Ifrit, you can't due Ifrit building stun resistance on eruptions. The Ifrit-egi will use the stun no matter what, unless I fully control him and that brings me to my second point. Its not very intuitive to fully control your pet. As it stands it currently takes away from MY OWN global cooldown to use one of HIS skills. I should not be losing one of my casts telling one of my pets to use a skill.

For a while, I was all for these 'egis' since I understand targeting could be a problem. But overtime, I've began to lose sight of the fact that I was a SUMMONER, being next to such underwhelming egis - they're not exactly something you take pride in, and are somewhat ugly.

The Egi's just need to be more fleshed out and give them something that POPS, rather than size. Give them more detail or even Minature versions of themselves, that are a little under waist high for others and as tall as a Lalafell. I'd be okay with that, but the giant grandiose size of 11, just aren't good for this game. It requires to much movement and looking out of attacks to dodge. If something is to big and covers the screen, its hard to see whats going on, and dodge accoringly.Quote:

Honestly I'm disappointed in FFXIV's iteration of Summoner as well. It's a fun class to play, it just doesn't feel like a Summoner.
The Egi's design is something that I can overlook. Sure, I wish it was bigger. I think the sizes of the ones you fight in the SMN job quests are perfect. But the looks of the Egis isn't what I have the big problem with, it's how the FFXIV "Summoner" plays. It doesn't feel like our focus is on the summons at all, in fact, our summons are just sort of a side thing. Keeping our DoT spells up at all times, keeping on top of Fester and Aetherflow cooldowns, weaving off GCD abilities in between instant-casts, proper utilization of Ruin and Ruin II...these are widely considered the most important aspects of the Summoner job. None of those things have anything to do with Summoning or Summons. Manually managing your pets does set players apart, you should be manually using all your pet's abilities to get the most out of them (Contagion is the most prominent example), however like I said it's hardly the focus of what we do.
Our pets are not the focus of our supposed pet class.
I honestly wish there would be a complete redesign of the Summoner class with a much heavier focus on our pets and pet management since they're barely even a consideration right now, however in all likelihood that will not happen. I sincerely hope that I am wrong on that assertion though. Maybe with as much attention as this thread is getting and continuing to get there's a chance. -
