All Worlds Maintenance (Sept. 11)

The problem with server transfers is that 25% of people on each server are going to try to enter one of 4 servers that is locked. Everyone believes they have a right to be on those servers because their friends are their.

I would be shocked if they didn't allow only people leaving certain servers. So if you want to play with your buddies on those locked servers its just going to be them leaving that server...in fact it always works in this manner.

I see a LOT of people assuming that once transfers are implemented that their friends will be able to come to a server already character locked. It wont happen.

Let me repeat: They are not going to let everyone flood onto those 4 servers that are already locked...only off them. If your friends don't want to leave those servers better make some new ones for this game.

The problem is the Fates in my opinion and the leveling system in general. When the clearly superior way to level 1 to 50 is mindless roaming from fate to fate, spamming the ability that will net you the highest contribution and your gear doesn't matter, then it is normal that people will not give a shit about their gear. I made a level 25 dungeon yesterday and had a DPS inside with half his gear level 1-10...I am leveling all crafting classes in par with my main and spent countless hours so I be able to craft my own gear and always have level apropriate gear. Why should I carry in dungeon the fate runner that don't give a shit about? Sorry if this sound elitist but this is what I feel. I am also against those gear checks, but since they made their leveling system like this, they must now find a way to make people care about their armor

It would be nice to see what item level average is recommended to do certain content, especially when using the duty finder. I don't necessarily mind this, since there isn't much difference between telling someone "You need to have <this> much damage/stat/ect." as opposed to "You need <this> i-level average." However, will this item level requirement also be in effect for situations where you are bringing your own full group to the dungeon? There's been plenty of times that I can recall in my gaming history where my guild/ls would just bring mostly properly equipped players, and maybe one or two people who are underpar, with the sole intent of gearing them up in the 'higher tier' instance instead of slow gearing them in the instances of their proper tier.

In regard to the gearscore change, I would assume that it will work like queuing as a group of 4 (or 8) does right now. They don't run any checks and assume you are not completely retarded. If you choose to run a dungeon with 4 dps, what do they care? They don't. Which is why, when leveling and tired of waiting for long queues some people in my FC decided to queue as 4 "dps" (one was an arcanist... which registers as DPS, and he was using his tank pet, and throwing out heals). The ran all the way up through level 30 dungeons like this pretty easily.

So I would hope they do the same with any kind of gear check. It is only there if you are looking for PUGs.

Will you guys be doing anything to fix the FATE's and the lag which is occurring when to many players are at a FATE? I'm on PS3 and its gonna be no fun doing large FATE's when I hit 50 with my LS if I can't even see the mob... Let alone I'm the tank... And that's gonna be a problem. :(

I have several friends who are unable to play with me that just returned from vacation abroad because the server is locked. They are going to end up having to play elsewhere which is lame.

The least that can be done is enabling us to have cross-server friends that we can queue up for dungeons with.

I just want my friend to be able to play on ultros with me :s

What are you guys doing to address the ludicrously out of control gil seller spamming that is going on in the chat channels on a daily basis? Your paying customers (the ones who bought the game) would like to have our chat channels back from the Gil selling spammers, please. Thanks.

its because they are catering to the jp working hours. our primetime is their morning time. so they do maintenance while most of them are at work or sleeping in. to where as we're left with nothing to do since it sour prime time. idk why their doing it with this game. they never did it with ffxi. ffxi maint usually started around 8a.m. wel in their primes days anyway. but then again sometimes it ran up to 6pm est.

Hello Sion,

I am a network engineer and I've worked for some of the top IT companies in the world. (Microsoft, Intel, AT&T etc). FFXIV doesn't display raw network information in a meaningful way to the end user. I believe the client is showing game packets (UDP) and that those are compiled and used as the values shown in Send/Receive. It does *NOT* show rate, in other words the info presented by that does not show you network speed or latency at all.

Furthermore SE does not control the pipe. When your saying too much data is routed too many places.. first off.. its not much data at all. SE has been very good with their network programing and the load is actually very minimal secondly, its routed to one place.. to SE, and SE does not control the route.

I'd check an see if your roommate is on netflix man..

This! Although it will be interesting to see if this will apply to all dungeons or just through dungeons in the duty finder. If your own Free Company doesn't mind carrying you, well that is their choice.
I am not sure why people complain that this is bad, unless they are always the lazy under-geared player that wants to be carried.

Thanks Camate. I wanted to pass along 2 notes:

• Can we please get the restoration of Requesting Repairs from Other Players? We can request Materia Melding from others, and we had the ability to have others fix our equipment in 1.0. Why was this removed? :confused:
  
  It also allows us to actually *talk* other players in this *MMO*.

• For the "Item Level Requirements," there are pros and cons. Can you confirm that if we form our own party (not via Duty Finder), that the Gear Check Requirement can be bypassed?
  
  As others have said, there are times that we want to help our friends / LS mates that might be new to a dungeon / learning, and we're helping them through some content.

I want to thank you for all the hard work the team has put into making this ridiculously addictive game. I have only one suggestion that I hope you consider.

Please run these LONG maintenance windows on a rotation with other regions. Just because the NA prime time window affects the least people it doesn't mean it should always be us.

We will be addressing #1 after the maintenance tomorrow, and #2 and #3 will be implemented after patch 2.1.

Probably near the end of the month, they'll add the world transfers. Kind of debating whether to transfer or not...

On behalf of myself and my fellow NA players who aren't going to die during maintenance: please don't judge all of us by those that are most vocal.

I'd be playing if the servers were up, but they're down, so I'm not. Simple as that. The maintenance from last week resolved a lot of major issues, and allowed players to actually play the game. I look forward to great strides this week as well. I have seen a fair number of MMO launches through, and my opinion is that this one is going nicely.

I won't elaborate much because that will invite dozens of "experts" (read: trolls) to pick apart any statement I'd make for their self satisfaction.

To those that are incessantly whining about the timing of maintenance: Take a shower, shave, go see that big yellow ball of light up in the sky, and maybe even discover that other people exist outside your interwebz. I'm sure FFXIV will be ready and waiting to greet you with open arms (and login servers) tomorrow.

I'm somewhat surprised to see all the people laying into the players that dislike having the game unavailable during prime time play hours. Especially since the majority of them aren't saying "Hey, you should only have the maintenance during OUR off peak times!", but something more like, "I think it would be more fair to have the maintenance alternate prime times." Seems like a pretty fair and just statement if you ask me.

Personally, I don't care when the servers are down. I'm at work until 3:00am CST. I Just don't like all the hypocrisy I'm seeing here. You see, you don't do anything by shutting up and just taking it. If you want to change something you have to speak up about it. If you don't like something that's going on, say something even if you'll just get jeers from people that don't support your opinion.

I just can't believe how long they anticipate the maintenance to last :|

Should Just get rid of repairs altogether. Why does gear get damaged anyway? Is the damage inflicted by the weapon reduced as the durability decreases? If not, then why even have that function? I think it's retarded.

If you're talking about on death, then I think it's a godsend. Thank GOD you don't lose exp like you did in FFXI. God, I remember losing like an entire day's worth of work just from ONE death in that game. HORRIBLE. I'll take a durability hit as a death penalty over exp loss any day of the week and twice on sunday.

To my knowledge, you lost 10% of that levels XP cap. Which at 75 (last I played it, and I heard leveling only got easier) would amount to 4,400 XP. You only gained 4,400xp while leveling in a day?

Will this maint reset the cap for mythology tokens?

I wouldn't know what they changed about it. I played it for a few months when it FIRST came out (back when it was PC only in it's ORIGINAL launch) and it was a lot harder to get exp back then once you hit the mid 20s. When I hit the brick wall where it started taking several days to gain ONE single level I gave up on it cause I didn't like it taking THAT long to gain a level. I don't know how it was when you played, but back then it was IMPOSSIBLE to do ANYTHING solo once you hit the mid 20s. If you didn't get a party then you didn't get any experience at all and often it was VERY difficult to even get a party in the first place (unless of course you played a tank or healer, I played DPS) and even then it had to be a FULL party because otherwise you'd get your butt kicked by the monsters.

Hi Camate, thanks for info. umm where can i find what they fixing/adding into this maint? usually it would be Update section or somewhere but there really no info about what FFXIV team is doing on this maint.

That's really great! It costs me about 5,000 gils to run the last 3 dungeons of the main story quest when I help people in my FC, and at this rate I wouldn't have been able to do it much longer, short of asking them to pay my repairs for lack of personal gils.

Thumbs up, SE and Yoshi, for a such a quick response to this tuning issue! ^_^

However, there's a small improvement I'd like to suggest. When one repairs pieces of equipment, it uses 1 dark matter no matter how bad the condition. This forces us, to optimize our costs, to wait as long as possible before repairing them. The trouble is that we run into the risk of hitting 0% while in dungeon, thus unable to repair without abandoning.

Wouldn't it be better if a full repair (from 0% to 100%) did use something like 5 or 10 dark matters (adjusting price accordingly, dividing the price of dark matter by 5 or 10), so that we may choose to repair more often, and keep our equipment near 100% all the time? I, for one, like to repair as often as possible; but when my crafting classes will reach 40, I'm worried I won't be able to do so, and eventually will forget to repair at some point... and have to tell my dungeon mates "sorry, forgot to repair, we have to call it off".

If repairing a single piece of equipment did use 10 dark matters, I'd be able to repair as soon as my pieces hit 90%, thus keep my equipment in pristine condition. As a tank, I'd like that very much. But I can't, or won't, do it if 0->100 costs the same as 90->100, since that would be a huge financial loss.

Does this iLevel take in to account HQ gear and materia melds? Both of these things do not increase iLevel and do make a significant impact on gear performance

Please also add ways to generate gil, this way people who only like to raid or do dungeons have such hard time to make gil
