Where the heck is the official square response?
im having the same issue i could play after about 11 last night but nt possable before that and same again tonight. and for the record this is the first time in days iv been able to log in to the forums >.<
The people who man the phones and forums for ISPs seem to have less technical knowledge than me and i have very little..
True enough, 90% of the time you talking to someone who knows less than you, non technical support
I just phoned BT Technical and the Indian "tech" on the end of the phone had no concept of what "P2P" or "traffic shaping" even was. He said that BT do throttle traffic between 6:30pm and 9-10pm every night and that there is no way to opt-out of them doing so... having this conversation humored me immensely considering I am an IT Manager of a telecoms installer and he is meant to be a technical representative of the largest IP network in the UK, he had no technical knowledge, not even a bit. I can see no way out of this unless Square contact BT and have the network traffic opted out of the filter.
Idd it has to be the companies who communicate between themselves the most a customer would get is lead in circle by phoney technical representatives, no real progress will be got, that's why i'll make my voice heard here, and thru contacting SE in the hope that inter company talks can begin and a solution made.
You could post in this thread or make a new one on this forum (I didn't start this one)

I'm personally hoping we will see some action on this after the bank holiday. The mods on this site are very helpful so if SE do nothing & threads get nowhere then of them may well pick up the baton to get it resolved if we PM them.
Don't waste your time calling BT though:/
I really hope this issue gets resolved quickly. It's disheartening having to log off exactly at 7pm knowing the game will become unplayable due to the problem.
Just tried logging back in, severe lag for four mins then booted out (90000)
So, to fix it so far as posted earlier. Run command prompt in administrator mode (google if you don't know how to find command prompt) and type the following:
ipconfig /release
Then hit enter.
ipconfig /renew
Then hit enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
Then hit enter.
It will give you a window to get into a duty. This worked and i did a dungeon for an hour, when we finished i was back on the servers and then lag again and death.
Other than that i tried a vpn, none of them could get the patcher to connect :/
Ninja extension of the early access to mitigate complaints?

okay so major lag again so I logged on my other character on JPN server, no lag whatsoever. if BT treats ARR client as P2P how come it only lags on EU server?
Is this the reason I am lagging so much at the moment? I am with BT also (7 year old contract)
Just want to confirm, that as expected, I'm having this issue again tonight.
I just logged in to check, though I know what I was expecting.
It's pretty silly that, when trying to get into an in room, I have to wait for up to five mins for the innkeep to say "how can I help you?", then have to wait another five mins to get the options of what to do...
I hope that SE can make this phone call soon >_>
Oh! and bump :P
Its not based on server, it is based on players and load.Quote:

Take this into account: Having managed to slog my way to the duty finder with my pre made group, we was able to play FINE, ZERO LAG, through the duty.
As soon as we were done my ping rocketd again once i was back on the EU/NA cluster with masses of players.
Basically, i think: (i am not a engineer)
When lots of players are online, traffic is sent to your client for this. This large spike in traffic is tracked by BT/EE and treated as P2P traffic (or some small element of the game is using p2p)
They then throttle and limit FFXIV.
well if this is whats going on now, what will it be like tomarrow? we need an official response on either a better server hardware or contacting isps
So I decided to get a VPN for now... I found a very good one that charges monthly.. it's about £4. (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/) the free ones are rubbish and slow, so don't bother with them. It's working great.
Funnily enough I did a speed test with the VPN on then off and I'm getting better speeds with it on.
plz for the love of god contact them im having major lag from 7.30 pm onwards this is insane
I'm having this exact issue!!! Every single evening between 7.30 and 10pm I get unplayable lag. I can't talk to NPC's for up to 5 minutes a time! Getting on/off a chocobo can take the same as well as waiting to even teleport.
It's 10:18pm and the lag is still occurring for me, would be great if SE can talk to BT about this.
Yeah game is pretty much unplayable at the moment. I can accept and hand in quests as long as I wait a few minutes for it to process due to the lag. Sprint doesn't seem to be as affected by the lag.
wouldn't mind using VPN but the launcher won't connect with it on...
If you guys are getting LAG and having problems with your Internet Service Provider then just Fire your ISP and hire a better one.
I live in a rural area in which the ONLY two ISP's are EE and BT...both are doing this anyway, and its cheaper with EE. A lot cheaper. 'hire a better isp' is simply not optional.
Most of the country relies on BT as a ISP or BT's infrastructure unless your close to the modern updates by Virgin and the fibrelines.
Simply telling us to 'get a new isp' is insulting.
Im with EE currently and everytime it gets to about 7:30 - 8pm every night so far of early access and ive just ended up getting "Sending" 0.
This has made me standing at NPCs for 10+ mins,
Delayed abilites once being used takes forever for them to go off,
Zoing from zone to zone taking longer and longer,
Now i bought the v 1.0 collectors edition, found that to be totally flawed and now i have purchased the ARR collectors edition NOW i cant even play anytime from 7:30pm and when i do log out i cant log back in due to servers being full.
i dont even get my 30 days trial i get 15 days now SE plz get in touch with EE and sort this out cos i didnt wait 2 years for ARR to finally be released to only be able to play 3 hours when i get home from work ONLY.
I have fixed my BT throttle problem by simply forwarding the ports in the router
please see the following guide for what to do (it's very easy)

This will work if you do it correctly (don't mess up the TCP/UDP, and forward all ports)
Phoned BT to renew/re-contract on Saturday morning. The lass on the other end of the phone was quite chirpy, until I re-iterated that I was under the impression that after Feb 2013 they weren't traffic shaping or capping p2p speeds etc. She had no idea what I was going on about, but said my new contract would be in place by the 28th. Risked logging on tonight...it was perfect; no lag. Ran the test to see if my ISP was shaping my traffic and it came back with the result that BT weren't shaping it anymore (I ran the test on Friday night and it came up as positive for shaping).
So, I saved £2/month and got the problem fixed. Still a poor state of affairs though.
got the same traffic shaping problem on BT Infinity only had it in about 9 months so they won't let me change the contract, but on the plus side a VPN does get round their traffic shaping and even with a 20 meg connection through a VPN it's more than enough to run this.
but really even tho you can fix this yourself square really needs to get in contact with BT and other ISP's as those who don't know as much about limitations on their broadband will think it's just a problem with the game.
there must be a way for firm to do this, since I know Blizzard has this problem come up quite often and can usually get it sorted with the offending ISP's in about 12-24 hours.
On week lagged from 7.00-10.15 on Monday 7.00-11.10+ (I gave up don't have exact time, not acceptable)
bump
FIXED IT

I'm also experiencing this issue and I first saw it in Phase 4. As soon as the game hits 7pm, it becomes unplayable which sucks as most of my play time will be nights during the week due to work. Unfortunately I cannot change ISP as BT is the only one available in my area and I cannot upgrade to Infinity either (I've seen some people say this has fixed their issue).
One of my concerns is that some of my friends are also with BT however, they are not experiencing this issue. They are hooked up to their Router with an Ethernet Cable but I am Wireless because I can't get an Ethernet Cable long enough. Could part of this issue be because I am Wireless?
How exactly does forwarding ports get past the problem whereas BT filter and limit P2P traffic? It's still P2P traffic regardless of where the ports point to lol. I noticed you posted this at around 6am, this is about the time they turn off the traffic shaping...
I had this all phase 4. I rang and e-chatted to a tech (at the same time), both told me I was in fact on option 3, the unlimited 16mb contract and that I wasn't being limited. I played last night and actually didn't experience any lag. Phase 4 was terrible though, 5 minute waits....
So...I'm not sure what to make of this.
The problem is it only happens in areas with a high population, for example Gridania and it's relevant sub-zones. Once the game goes over a specific cap of players in one area the traffic the game exudes starts to look like P2P traffic which BT limits at peak times. I was able to play in one Limsa zone for a while a few nights ago after 7pm, but my story quest took me to Gridania last night at around 6pm and when 7pm hit I was lagged out completely.
Just got off the phone with BT.... I already have the uncapped contract, so they've raised a fault and also requested to increase b/w at my local exchange..... after mentioning others with EE/BT getting it/ it occurring on previous MMO releases (as mentioned here for Rift) and that a VPN resolves the issue, this was still the end result, he at least took the game name.
As for the other post about ports... really? So the game works perfect until the aforementioned time period and on queue starts to lag (the real term of lag not low fps that some people use it for) and it is a port issue? Really?? >_>'''''''''''
¬Edit¬ For those that have had their contract changed? Did it resolve the issue, or are you still waiting for the change to take place?
I am thinking of using IPVanish vpn service till its resolved, anyone heard of them? They allow 1 month sub which is nice.
