I don't care about the flash so much as I care about what the flash looks like. I want to be able to see or hear some patters that identify the ability so I can understand who is casting what. Someone shoots a bow? There better be some arrow animations. Someone casts fire? I better see flames. Someone does a lancer move? I better see a polearm-shaped slash across the screen. If it's just a bunch of swirls and sparkles and bright lights while people keep grunting in pain while nobody is getting hurt, then i'll be mad.
The common attacks are too flashy & too fast, making the stronger attacks seem insignificant gives the feeling of a hack & slash game. Instead of giving them more flash make them feel more significant
oh really? dragonfire dive isn't flashier than full thrust? most skills are 4sec GCD generic skills. and you havn't seen what most stronger skills look like anyways. not to mention NEW skills you don't even know about.
how would a slow and non flashy attack feel? totally pointless; they are called auto attacks.
This thread gave me cancer
You can disable those effects I believe anyway. So people who like them, keep them. People who don't, don't. :)
Never a shortage of people who think they know what everyone wants lol..
To each their own I say. Let people enjoy what they enjoy.. Diversity and options is what we need.
you still used the skills you got at lv1, at lv 50; so there's not much point in talking about *weakest* and *strongest* attacks. there's generic skills that are all quite equal, aside from having various effects. they are good in certain cases, in others not. Dragonfire Dive would be the weakest option in some cases. while the *weakest* can be the most optimal; so your argument that lv 1 skills are weak, and shouldn't be flashy, is illogical.
And if you wanna put it that way, the skills need to be flashier, not less so...
The attacks I used in 1.0 to play are irrelavent and have nothing to do with this thread. What im getting at is the flash should match the intensity of the attack. I donno why you keep bringing up dragonfire dive, that is the strongest attack drg has and should be a spectacle
did you play XI? it had levels of intensity for its attacks and animations to go with it. the flash got progressively better not all at once from the start.
and what do you know about the intensity of attacks in ARR, since it's not out?
DD is firebased, so try that on fire mob, see how strong it is...so by your definition, it should appear as a puff of smoke when used on Ifrit? and like a nuclrear explosion when doing 9999dam on lv1 mob?
flashiness is no indication of damage output, because of resistances etc.
Flashiness is honestly very subjective of a quality... What is "too flashy" to one person may be just right or not flashy enough to another. I do agree with the sentiment that the amount of "flashiness" should generally correlate with power, but flashiness in general isn't much of a concern to me unless it is really excessive to the point where it makes it harder to play (and there are some games like that, but so far XIV doesn't feel like one of them, at least not yet.)
well it gets rather difficult, because at low lv, the skills are much stronger compared to AA, than at lv 50.
so that would mean skills should be flashier at low lv? :)
I prefer clear, destinct maybe not so big skill/castanimations over giant swirls of light.
They are not really bad and not wrong for Final Fantasy either; a lot in FFXIII looked like that.
It's just not what I personally prefer.
I like clear forms more, like a sharp thrust of 'light' for lancer or anything that looks like an arrow for archer.
I disagree.. Flashiness is definitely an indicator of how much damage it was "supposed to do" Not what it ends up doing. THAT is when resistances come into account. Not before.. Just because a creature resists a nuclear explosion, it does not mean that the nuclear explosion did not happen. This is very easy stuff to grasp here..
That massive explosion happens and it does not get shrunken by the awesomeness of the mob.. Everything around that main BA dies, but that tough mob resists it.. Neither the spell, nor it's effects are just poofed out of existence..
The resistance of the mob to that massive effect, is what shows how tough he is..
Like dropping an A bomb on Godzilla.. It's still going to be powerful, still going to wipe out the city.. But will it kill Godzilla? Not necessarily..
By your logic when Bahamut just destroyed FFXIV, it should of looked like a sparkler instead of a mega flare? Of course not.. For obvious reason.. The same obvious reasons, that flashiness should be related to skill power..
Maybe not always but definitely as a general rule of thumb.
Im not the one complaining about flashiness, so i'd wanna see Bahamuts attack be even flashier :) Those small orbs do to much damage for being so small.
If you watch alpha instance vid, you can see drg do AA around 60, and crit vorpal thrust 250ish (at lv20, so your 10damage example is lols). so how much power do you need for flashy to make sense? :)
Well it's difficult to see what's what in party play videos anyways. So it might not be as flashy as it seems in vids either way. It's only when effects stack on each other that it looks crazy, and not all of it just from players either.
I'm leaving that up to the devs. I think they have it under control.. Imo the lower level abilities look less flashier.Things seemed to look appropriate to me. I think they are getting a better grasp or it for ARR.
Believe me, I do not want to see a firestorm every time someone lights a candle..
I also do not want to see improperly scaled effects to base damage ratio..
"Base" damage is the damage a mob takes "without resistances" Same stuff that has been in place since ffxi.
PS: When did I make any 10 damage example? lol..
I think my point was pretty clear.
