I'm guessing they're running low on testers & only have a few hundred left to send out. So they want more people to apply.

Just because you need to have an active account to apply, doesn't mean they are only allowed to choose from active accounts. I don't know where people get that conclusion.
Your applications put your names on a list of players that provided information in order to help SE choose testers. If they needed to test a certain graphics card, for example, they can check all of the applications. This makes your chances of getting in slightly higher. This, however, does not mean that they are restricted to that list.
And how arrogant are people to believe that they are by obligation prioritized over others? Of course there is admiration and respect for those who stuck around, and SE can award those players for the support... but by no means are they obligated to provide you any more than they provide everyone else. Please stop being so self-entitled, guys... it's making our community seem childish. We got our Legacy rewards, dalamud horns, white raven earrings, special events, and even a free chocobo! Yet you still demand more?
By all means, despair over not getting into alpha and celebrate when you do get in, but don't presume you know exactly how the selection process works because that is completely up to SE.
The way I see it now is: Also make some ppl who's not really interested doing alpha to have false hope, then ruin their day. :p
I am really sorry for ppl who really expecting invites. But making others who's not really hoping that much having false hopes is just plain wrong. That email in my inbox is the prove. And it's not because I can't unsubscribe. :p
Alpha ends in a week? News to me. Will beta begin right afta?
Sorry to say, your input is not more valid then theirs.
Those players that quit 1.0 pre 1.20 are as valid candidates as you that played everyday until the world ended.
Those "old" players can give feedback about the current version in ways that you will not, because they will based on their feedback to the reasons why they quit in the first place. By having those players, SE, or mainly the ARR team, can now avoid and make sure they do not repeat the same mistakes the original team made and cause the players to leave.
You may not feel this is fair, but it is important for the current ARR team to avoid the mines the original team laid.
jc
buuhuu ; ; ... im not even gonna say wait for beta , 2012 almost over few months and the game is released, jeez some ppl need hobbies or something..
-.-
If you dont have active account, you should not be able to APPLY at all.
- if SE is letting inactive accounts to apply. they should remove "Must have an active FF XIV account" from the requirements
-if inactive account able to apply, when it is not SE intention, they should give confirmation of this oversight.
-if SE is inviting inactive account without having them to applying in the alpha registration page, its up to them, but be prepared that some people will objection this.
Goodness. I can confirm you will get an error message stating you must have an active FFXIV account if you try to apply with one that isn't. To reiterate what MrKupo said, even if you can only apply with an active account, it doesn't mean nor imply that SE will only send invites to active FFXIV players. They can very well choose other players who did not apply but have played FFXIV before. As a matter of fact someone I know got an invitation but never applied. Edit: or at least they don't remember applying.
And btw, what's your definition of "active" account? "Active" doesn't only mean something's being used, it can also mean that it's "working". I haven't played FFXI in ages and to my knowledge, my FFXI account still works even if I don't use it. I can log on, pay up and continue playing whenever I want. That doesn't sound very inactive to me. It would be inactive if I decided to delete it.
hmmm?? if they didnt apply, then it confirms that SE did blind invite.lol.. if they did apply, Im fine with it, but are you sure they do it with active FF XIV account?
this is not matter of who deserve who isnt. But consistency of the system.
But I give benefit of doubt to SE, because they KNOWN as not-so-good company at managing accounts. lol
Lol People are still complaining about this common now we all want to play "patience" please
If that is true, then I'm willing to bet SE didn't even use that application site, and just randomly chose people that currently have or ever have had a FFXIV account as a candidate for alpha. Either way, true or not, this whole thing just has a "stink" about it, lol.
reading comprehension lacking.
sorry to say this but SE never said they wont invite active accounts. like you quoted all they said is that you need an active account but active does not mean playing ffxiv but haveing an account and ffxiv registred at on time.
besides SE can invite whoever they want.
To be perfectly honest I never applied for alpha and will probably never play beta. I know I'm not productive as a tester, and as a player I'd rather wait until everything is actually ready to be played.
This OP is complete bullshit. I'm in alpha no one there is on an inactive account. This is in NO way the RIGHT way to get the devs attention. How incredibly disrespectful.
Quick question to everyone QQ for a alpha invite .. u guys want a INVITE SOOO BAD to this game to help the DEV make the game better OR just to play it FOR fun ? Because i have a (Friend) that is in ALPHA and there nothing much to do . i rather get invite to beta than this anyday but that just me ..
I have a feeling that Square is monitoring peoples posts and threads. Everyone that keeps posting up negative threads like "Devs You Better Answer" is definitely NOT getting into Alpha. Since they don't want people going into Alpha, which is not what the complete game is going to look like, and then posting up more negative threads about the game, which is honostly not what the game needs after the last launch :\
Oh my... so much Hostility!

Abriael is like SE's Forum Police force.. annnnnd I'm hungry.. Going to eat a Donut ;)..
haha this thread is awesome....
Paying customers that are clearly told something and then that something is not honored, have a right to be disappointed and frustrated. The extent of that disappointment and frustration can vary between individuals, but I see nothing wrong with it.
Company: "Only our paying customers are entitled to this product/service."
Paying customer: "Yay!"
*Company delivers product/service to people that aren't paying customers, while leaving out a large number of paying customers.
Paying customer: "WTF?!"
I would say frustration and disappointment are entirely justified, but hey, you're entitled to your own opinion.
Nix said her husband DID apply.
We theorized in the other thread that it could have been when the devs made all the accounts active so they could log in for the final event on the 11th. It could have been here that the inactives got the short window to apply and have their applications submitted. An oversight on SE's part.
My husband did physically apply for the alpha ; ;, I really think vil's theory is true. I can't say exactly when my husband applied because he has forgotten (bloody men).
