Even if there was a limit you guys would still complain and you know it. :P

What's the difference between 1 person jumping in rapid succession and 10 people jumping at random intervals around you. You guys would still complain and continue to complain till it was completely removed, and that's not happening.
We knew this was in the works for a long time, so what's the issue? It's not going to change so you may as well deal with it.
Your assumption about what people you don't know would do is noted, but just an assumption, thus void of any validity.
You may as well learn the fact that in a MMORPG nothing is set in stone until release. As a matter of fact, nothing is set in stone even after release.Quote:

They still have a plenty time to put a limit to it, and they should.
Rokien i understand you dont like spam jumping all over your screen lol but if SE would implement a hide button like most ppl hide there head gears while ppl like me like to see my character wearing a helmet on look nice. like a button to hide jumping animation would be nice for those that dont like to see characters jumping all on the screen. just my opinion
This crap again... Complaining about jump..again. wtf is wrong with you guys? something is seriously wrong with your minds.
We'll see when next year swings around then won't we? ^^
The people that like / hate jumping is just about half and half. If I had to bet, I'd bet it was staying as is since the director himself is in favor of it.
You said your point and I've said mines. I'm going to leave it at this since this is going to end up just going back and forth in a spitting contest.
I second the 'indifferent' option.
I never specifically wanted jumping in the game, or petitioned for it... but now that it's being added (and we have no choice in the matter!), I really don't mind it. That said, I won't be one of those people that jumps around all the time... The reason I got involved in this thread in the first place is to make the comment that after people get used to having jump, it won't be something we see an obnoxious amount of.
It baffles me that people can be so passionate about this. I don't see how adding one more utility to the game can make it bad. Like I said many pages ago (which sparked a huge debate), if you don't like jumping... don't use it. I don't mean to be offensive, but it SERIOUSLY baffles me how upset people are getting at the ADDITION of something you're not forced to use.
Example that has been mentioned before: Remember when the goobbue was added? EVERYONE was riding around on their goobbue, and some people hated it. A few weeks later, and you only saw everyone riding on it every now and then. I don't usually ride mine, but I will admit that the goobbue music is catchy.
Add just a 1 second like landing delay/animation so you dont do it while running- that would stop jump spam while still keeping its utility. Losing momentum while running is incredibly annoying- but if i wanna jump a fence- saved me time.
false
also false.
I see that your programming knowledge is quite adequate, but jump is server side. The video did show Yoshi-P as well as others jump over geometry and static meshes frequently. And even transcended onto a structure. It's true that collision detection 'among characters' has been taken out, but there still is collision detection with world relevant structures. otherwise you'd fall through the ground or stay at the exact same elevation when trying to climb or walk off a slope.
Jump does more then affect animation, it has to process the position and direction. If it didn't then players wouldn't get stuck behind gates and fences, but just plain walk through or over them, or in just animation case, stay stuck at the spot where collision will occur while walking.
True... you just told yourself your assumption is just and assumption, thus void and invalid... >.>
Neither does the game force you or others to repeat jumping. You didn't state you or others would, but by lack of stating it still signifies that you make that assumption.
Because the game is being rebuilt with fan service in mind, people seem to think that all of their ideas and opinions are more likely to be heard than if this were a complete game. With complete games, most of the controls and gameplay are practically set in stone, so people don't think to try and tell the developers to change it. I hope this means that once XIV is in its final form for a few months or a year, people will realize simple things like jumping and grass are not going to change. Thus I am hopeful that the community will get better by then.
There's no full physical interaction between characters and the ground (I wish there was, like in Tera or ArcheAge, but from the video this is out of the question), so in the end the amount of data exchanged is exactly the same as the amount of data exchanged if you were walking. Position + Animation + Obstacles.
That's why saying that characters were encouraged to jump for stress testing purposes is quite ridiculous.
No, it's experience, as that is how it happens in every MMORPG that allows unrestricted jumping. There's a large difference between assumption and talking out of direct and continued experience.Quote:

The FFXIV community itself is no stranger to abusing this kind of semi-griefing mechanics, like the abuse of gobbue mounts and "moaning" emotes.
We're not even in beta. From alpha to beta to release a LOT can change. Developing a game like this without keeping feedback in serious consideration, even about basic things, is a great way to repeat the 1.0 debacle.
I figured it was a massive live server load test. I am not a jump enthusiast and only find it useful for terrain navigation and occasional funny stuff but when its constant it can be annoying lol. On the other hand, I imagine there are people who love the heck out of it and that there are more who love it than hate it.
There were many issues with 1.0 both in it's server structure and it's god awful ability to connect basic actions with how it was portrayed on screen systematically.
Have hundreds of players in one place. Emoting, fighting, bunny hopping was a way to show ARR won't have those problems like 1.0 did. There isn't a MMO to date that does not have jumping. In all of the MMOs I play it is a non-issue. I hardly even notice it and neither will you. You just notice it a lot now because that is actually what was asked of them. Might be annoying to you, but what are others suppose to do? Take their word for it? After 1.0? Sure.
yeah it was annoying and I wanted to punch them all after about 2 minutes. lol
They were probably asked to follow him around or something to that point.
Nah, the forums will continue to find something to nitpick, equally as stupid.
Forum topics 1 year from now:
- VIERA? BUT I WANTED DRAGON LADIES.
- Why 1.0 is BETTER than 2.0
- WHM can't PVP - SE FIX THIS OR I QUIT
- Where's my Goobbue? I want one too!
- Crystal Tower? More like DUMB THING.
- SE Please remove Player Housing (with 10 paragraph essay as to why)
- WHY HAVEN'T WE PVP'D WADA YET
I can see it all now.

Really how hard is it to understand the people were just following him to goof around and get on camera. I thought it was funny, to be honest. Funnier once I realized "The OF is gonna have a shitfit over all this jumping."
It made me notice two things: The amount of characters displayed is huge, and that alpha players are lemmings running off cliffs. :)
werent they jumping off the cliffs :)
Alright, here are my thoughts what actually happened. It wasn't completely a stress test as in an 'actual test'. I think most people here are right. People emoting and jumping mostly to get attention and be noticed by the camera. If you didn't notice, some eventually managed themselves closer to the viewport of the live stream's client. And they had to pretty much watch live as well to see.
In the previous live letter, some others went and found Y-P while he was explaining content and changes without the client displaying a stream. And seeing the R0 fest because of the 1.0 server, people might have wondered about the stability for 2.0 servers. In the 2 hour break (for dinner and getting ready), they probably thought to catch 2 birds with 1 stone this way. Let the dev teams as well as alpha testers have their moment in the spotlight, as well as showing people that the issues we experienced at the end will be very much less likely to happen in 2.0.
Remember that 'the gates were open' to all who had previously played and freely participate in the final battle. SE might have underestimated the turn up a little and the servers just couldn't handle hundreds of characters. And what we had on our servers might have been a hand full compared to what Y-P had surrounding him.
Added: Even if there was little combat displayed, it also showed that there weren't issues with that. And people pretty much started to R0 and d/c by just standing around while monsters spawned in specially emptied areas. With lagging emotes, declining ability for party invites, and area crashes while other parts worked fine.
This is why i was against jumping. But no, nobody listened to my warnings of bunny hopping.
I can't imagine this song going well for some people.
Especially this...
:)
I fail to see how jumping is annoying, or even bunny hopping for that matter. I grew up playing FPS games that didn't have jumping limitations, I'm used to this stuff. I guess people aren't, and when people can come up with something other than "stupid, ridiculous, annoying" or whatever insult and can actually come up with an intelligent response to why they dislike bunny hopping I might be able to understand them.
So please tell me, why does it look stupid? I can bunny hop in real life, so don't even try to say it's not realistic.
Man, am I gonna love jumping. Gonna jump on that ledge, then I'm gonna jump OFF that ledge.
Gonna re-name myself Mario Mario and be the jumping hero Eorzea deserves.
hehe i have nothing against jumping, kind of welcome it. but when u said about mario. i just ahd to laugh haha. i can imagine some1 making a video with super mario music at the back as he/she jumps onto mobs :P or the adamantoise! :D
People who /jump in game cant IRL. Let the kids /jump! :P
people have mental issues if they cant just let it go. not like you never seen jumping in a game before.
Just make jumping take TP XD.
- You wouldn't jump in a dangerous area because you want to be ready (if you do jump it would only be a small number)
- You couldn't bunny hop forever
- Jumping breaks channeling, so it is already anti mage
- Like reason one and three, you dont want to jump in PvP either since you'd be losing valuable skills to do so
(just a simple bandaid.. problems would exist but in a lesser extent)
I find it funny that people thought that the JP players hopping around to be on camera was more annoying than yoshi having it map cover half the screen for the majority of the alpha footage.
Now that was f$&@ing annoying.
I guess now we can not play more people will get bored and put more stupid threads of this style, Jesus Help!
Have not you thought that perhaps Programmers cited all these people to live for the time they were there and I asked them to move, jump, do abilities etc. .. for us to see the stability of the 2.0 and we saw how soft it is?

Seeing I'm archer, I will be the Mega Man of Eorzea. =3
I think a landing animation that lasta for a second or so after landing would be a good middle ground. That way, people still get to Jump, as they so long to do, while discouraging spamming, due to the animation lock, thus slowing you down if you plan to travel by bunny hopping along. Hopefully Yoshi recognises that it -is- a point of contention, and doesn't just side with one group. After all, they're probably about even in their vocal thoughts.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by that. But I conceded defeat on the Zam boards in which the community was unanimously in disagreement with me. At least Square made it where you can't jump off really high things. They created invisible borders as seen in the video.
Now that i think about it, i think they are all jumping constantly just to piss all the anti-jumpers off.
I'm ok with that.
