'Elitist' has always been a dirty word, and is something akin to snobbery. I think what you wanted to say is 'We're certainly elite.' There's quite a bit of difference between those two words.

Instead of arguing semantics, I think it's pretty easy to just look at my post history and our front page posts and see what kind of prevailing attitude we're going for.
So if you burn him fast enough you dont even have to deal with 10meteor phase?! o.O
Is that luck based? (like him being stuck in a 3WS combo?) or a reproducible mechanic?
This is how you solo 5 meteor phase (north side) on BRD: http://youtu.be/1ofE99d1PTQ
:D
What are the requirements gear-wise to do the BRD 5 meteors solo? Is it possible on GC or Garuda's?
attack gloves and str potion
For the fight in general you need at least 450 ACC, so I use White Ravens, HQ ACC rings, HQ PIE Bracelet, and HQ ATK necklace. But besides that I use:
- Artemis Bow
- Paragon's Crown
- Corselet
- +49 ATK Raptorskin Gloves of Slaying
- Flame Sergeant's Sash
- AF legs
- Darklight Caligae
We did some earlier runs where I would be wearing AF body, some DEX gloves, and Darklight Boots, and I would end up having to sneak in a Light Shot or Shadowbind for the first meteor. Without the STR pot I use at the beginning, my WS's almost always hit just below mark and I would have to do that.
With Garuda's or GC, you may have to use a Light Shot before Leaden Arrow on the first meteor, and Shadowbind between Bloodletter and Heavy Shot on the second meteor. I'm fairly certain that Quick Nock, Rain of Death, and Barrage would still one-shot the last meteors, though.
A Japanese static group beat our time: http://youtu.be/L6MDyM0juv0
We're looking forward to trying their composition out next week.
We put in two days of attempts with the 5 DRG setup and weren't able to clock a clean kill unfortunately. Big congrats to them for taking our proof-of-concept and running with it all the way to the endzone; we're going to have to work a lot harder in 2.0.
We did find out that you can't kill Nael in phase 1 :(

This was unfortunately one of several examples where the RNG in this fight can really influence the end time. To me the fight remained fun throughout, but I think while we were attracted to the level of execution required, the need for luck as well really became grating.
That's kind of what I mean by talking about our proof-of-concept; we showed them that that could be done with 4 DRGs and they took the idea, switched the THM to DRG for more single-target DPS and had the BRD solo all other meteors, and beat our time by about 15-30 seconds.
Laaaaame. You can't even cancel his 2nd megaflare by dropping him to .1% health either.
I don't know if you guys are still working on this but I noticed in your videos that your DRGs aren't using a tactic that my static figured out. You can actually dodge Iron Chariot with 100% success if you time a Jump correctly. If you see in your log a one-word-phrase, he's going to do Plasma Acoustics > Iron Chariot > Lunar Dynamo, so you just use Jump right after Acoustics hits. If he says a three-word-phrase, he's going to do Plasma Acoustics > Lunar Dynamo > Iron Chariot, so time your jump for after Dynamo. I always Jump unless it's on cooldown, at which point I use Featherfoot or Elusive Jump. It doesn't save a ton of time, but you'll save the time it takes to walk back towards Darnus and take a bit of burden off your WHM so he can nuke more. Perhaps useful if you're trying to save every second you can.
Also, servers are going back up after the 11th so you can keep trying if you want lol.
dodging iron chariot isn't exactly a problem, nor is healing. for people having troubles with that, you make an excellent suggestion- but it really has no bearing on what we were trying to accomplish.
we're not exactly slacking on dps, and doing top dps relies on having everything on cooldown as quickly and as often as possible. putting everything on cooldown as quickly and as often as possible also means you're constantly animation locking yourself. if you're constantly animation locking yourself, there's no guarantee you can jump at specific times in the middle of a WS animation. saving jump just for dodging iron chariot costs you dps not only in the forum of potentially holding off on your jump cooldown itself but also holding off on WS cooldowns to make sure you won't be in animation lock when he uses chariot. furthermore, holding back jump means potentially holding off on WS cooldowns because you're TP starved, and jumping whenever possible augments TP generation (437 tp with corselet and relic, +300 more when paired with quelling strike, which has the same cooldown) and helps ensure you always have TP to use any WS whenever the cooldown is up. with as much as we're WSing, that TP can mean the difference between using a WS immediately or waiting for 3 auto attacks, which is a net loss of dps.
(it's also worth noting that while every little bit of dps helps in a speed kill, costing your drgs dps to enable slightly more whm nuking is also a net loss of dps, as the whm nukes are pretty pathetic in comparison to most any drg WS)
barring absolute spam of teleports in phase 1, we're generally shooting for every drg to be at 100+ dps before he goes up top for 2nd megaflare. any hesitation whatsoever won't allow for hitting that number.
Mmk, fair enough. I guess the optimal solution would be to tank him by the edge of the arena so Chariot only pushes you into the wall, but you have to get lucky with where he teleports for that.
you can't really drag him around at all if you want the most dps uptime, simply because it's faster for drgs to just run to where he teleports to and immediately resume combos than it is to wait for the tank to reposition him and hold off on combos until you're sure he's settled. missing even one directional combo can destroy your dps by closing an entire line of WSs to you for the duration of that cooldown
an optimal dps rotation has you doing so many WSs in even a 9 minute fight that the loss of any WSs doesn't make up for a handful of extra auto attacks, given the disparity in damage ranges between the two and how they add up
you also need the sides to be free for ranged
Generally when the term elitist is used in is context it means "being awesome to a fault." There's a difference between someone who is awesome but is humble and one who is awesome and feels the need to let everyone else know how awesome he is. For better examples than you can find in MMOs, please see "DotA" or "Dota 2" or "Heroes of Newerth" or to a lesser extent 'League of Legends."
I would agree though, that the distinction your hubby uses makes it a lot more clear. ;p
we were on track for a 7:30 kill several times, only to get screwed over by RNG. taking way too long to teleport up top after 20% (like in our latest video at 0.1%, screwing us out of a nearly a minute), taking way too long to teleport back up at 45%, summoning 10 meteors the second we bring him under 40% after he comes back down, etc.
7 minutes is basically the floor. you'd need perfect RNG, which means no teleporting around at all (as each time he does it, it adds another ~6 seconds to your kill), going up immediately for first megaflare the second he goes under 20% health, going up immediately at 45% health, and not beginning 10 meteors phase until under 20%
it's just a brick wall of RNG and you need absolutely everything to go perfectly in your favor on top of perfect execution on your own part. it's possible but would take a silly amount of grind to finally get it.
Yeah I would agree.
You could swap a war for the pally but then you cant block his buff/debuff. You could swap that lone whm for another brd/drg but you really gotta get lucky ><
SE really should of put in a achievement for a sub 10 min kill. I bet they never figured anyone would kill it so fast.
